Good on Tweety.
The Teabaggers and their allies in the GOP have been trying to have it both ways. They’ve made deficits and the national debt their raison d’etre while simultaneously dry humping the coffin of St. Reagan, who ran up record debts on the country’s credit card — as did George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
If the Teabaggers/Palinites were truly deficit hawks, they would be denouncing the likes of Reagan and the Bushes and hailing Bill Clinton — who left the second Bush a record surplus. But Kibbe didn’t mention Clinton. Wonder why?
It’s also telling that Kibbe, when challenged by Matthews, starts babbling about what Reagan said — then, when confronted with what Reagan did, is forced to admit Reagan wouldn’t pass the Teabaggers’ supposed litmus test.
Just more proof that the “nonpartisan” Teabagging movement is a just a shallow device to attack a black Democratic president. That’s all it is.

Can’t watch vids due to dial-up. Is the one you describe from yesterday or today?
and as I always love to point out, the “teabaggers” of today are the exact antithesis for the founders, what they stood for and what the original “tea party” demonstrated against
that “tea party” was a revolt AGAINST LOWERING taxes
these tea baggers are clue less
Oh, the snark!
Uh oh. Somebody got the wrong coffin with a dead president in it.
I’m still smiling about seeing Ron Jr. on tv the other night. Man, he was fabulous. And he made the other Ron look so foolish, didn’t he?
Anyway, there is apparantly no need to shimmy lasciviously on the coffin. Posted downstairs, video of a reanimated Reagan:

Really good news, especially that part where he eats people. Maybe he’ll get Boehner and Cantor. “Mmmmm….tastes like chicken…”
Sad, really, that Kibbe didn’t go with the old ‘yeah he promised a balanced budget but he blew it up to win the Cold War’ line – guess he didn’t remember his history.
Nice anyway to the ponies of the right sketched from time to time.
Another clueless teabagger
Most of ‘em don’t even know what they are fighting for
Bless your heart. I needed that. Too freaking funny, and says a lot.
Great find! If he’s going for “braaaaaaiiiins” he would not bother with Cantor or Boehner.
The teabaggers are really interesting to watch. They are now demanding that Christmas carols be sung in schools! How much longer can the Rs stay connected to these loopy people? The Rs in Congress can’t possibly meet the demands of the tbs and they know it. Where does that leave the GOP? The tbs now appear to be angry with a lot of the ones we think are right wing creeps. So who will they vote for?
Nor do the teabaggers support a single-payer plan, which would greatly reduce both deficits and the 16%-of-GDP load that healthcare puts on the general economy.
Shoto found it. Great, no?
imagine a congress with all Michelle Bachman types
Indeed. Saving to send to some friends.
Thanks to both of you.
You just made me head explode and I might look like the Reagan zombie.
gonna send this one to one of my conservative friends
This golden oldie from FDL is a great one on Reagan tax increases to send to our conservative friends:
http://firedoglake.com/2009/02/01/newsflash-ronald-reagan-raised-taxes-you-idiots/
Mitch McConnell, maybe? Nah. Too stringy. On the other hand, I’m not so sure Ronnie would be terribly discerning at this stage of the game. ;-)
Yep, he raised taxes — and note also that the upper tax rate during the Golden Age of St. Reagan was in the 60s.
Yet today the Teabaggers, while singing the praises of Reagan, denounce “unprecedented taxation.”
Idiots.
We’re seeing the aftermath of “The Reagan Revolution” right now. Really good job he did, ain’t it?
Idiot Reagan worshippers.
Boehner would be worse–way to tough from overexposure to the sun.
Why would the Teabaggers attack America’s first african american Republican president? This is confusing…
probably make good jerky and you wouldn’t have to add coloring. :)
good snark but to be fair, I’ve been attacking him myself, not too happy with the methods he thinks will be effective
Boehner would be worse–way too tough from overexposure to the
sun.tanning lamp and bronzing lotion.Fixed it. ;-)
lol…for the zombie on the go!
yup
reagan raised taxes more then any peacetime president before he served, AND that tax increase was levied against the middle class, AND services and funding was cut
for instance, the man put thousands of mentally ill on the streets for the localities to figure out what they were going to do with them
for instance he cut college funding programs at the same time he was raising taxes for a double whammy against the middle and working class
Class warfare.
We have to accept the fact that they really don’t like us.They wish that we would just go away but haven’t accomplished it yet.
You just killed any desire I have to consume food for an indefinite period. :-(
Yesterday.
It is said that inconsistancy is the hobgoblin of small minds. They certainly proved the small minds part.
Actually, isn’t it a “foolish consistency”?
The rethugs are really going to regret embracing the tea party mob. I guess they were not listening when the tea baggers cried a pox on both your houses. Now that they have crept under the edge of the tent they are starting to take over. They want candidates to be what they consider “pure” conservatives. That is why the tea baggers believe that NY23 was a victory for them.
That kind of thinking just might mean the end of the rethuglician party-as it is now. In the future we can expect to have fewer “moderate” rethuglicians backed by the all powerful rethuglician party but many more tea bagger-to the right of the John Birch Society-types who hopefully will lose in the general election because of their extremist views.
However, it is possible that the sheeple could, in 2010, retake at least one part of congress, which would mean more Authoritarian Leaders in congress. A bunch of crazy people could do massive amounts of harm. And all because the people who voted for Obama could sit out the election.
Remember how well the idea of not voting to punish the dems worked out the last time? I do not look at the 2010 elections as a slam dunk for the dems. Far from it. If the dems in congress, who did in fact win the election in 2008, don’t grow a spine then it might be the entire country that suffers because the dem party leaders did not have the brains and the balls to stand up to the rethugs. Bunch of freekin wimps. The rethugs ran roughshod over the dems when they had the majority, now the dems are being totally passive when it comes to fighting back to the rethug lies. Remember this, when the rethugs lie it makes all the networks, when the truth comes out it only rates a brief mention in section D of your local paper. The villagers will never press a rethug, never ask the hard question, never badger until they get an answer. A dem on the other hand they will play gotcha and push and talk over the answer. IOW they will do everything to make the dem look the fool. Villagers all, they are all on the side of the corporate $$ and the rethugs have the best entry into that society.
That’s what I get for depending on television for my quotes.
I’d love to disagree with you but I can’t. I’ve just about had it up to my eyebrows with our feckless leaders. People like me who really really are feeling betrayed are going to stay home in droves in 2010.
the democrats are not doing what we voted for them to do, they are acting like republicans
I will vote for a progressive if they primary these guys but if they don’t they’re not getting a vote from me
Jane has a fresh cross-post ready: “Sign Letter to Susan B. Komen Foundation: Donations Shouldn’t Go To Hadassah Lieberman”
What?
You’re congratulating a man who let’s all the MSM lies just go on and on….for asking tough questions of someone my grandmother could embarass.
This is pathetic….pathetic because the progressives (us) are so whipped..so demoralized that a fake victory over a moron is something we go nuts for.
Cheer him when he takes down Palin…cheer him when he takes down a single Republican senator.
What?!?! the Reaganite doesn’t do that?
then stop cheering him.
A further increase in taxation which I believe was carried out under Reagan was brockered by Greenspan, with incredibly unjust results.
A 1980 commission was convened seeking to correct the projected deficit in the Social security retirement fund due to an aging population. It agreed to an increase in the FICA tax which was borne primarily by middle income wage earners. As this measure indeed returned the SS fund to solvency and projected surpluses, GWB then proceeded to return the proceeds of this surplus disproportinately to the top 1% of income earners through their tax reductions.
Thus was carried out one of the largest transfers of wealth from the middle class to the well off, and done so by design. It is intolerable that people are willing to remain idle when this enormous disparity of outcomes is carried out over and over again.
It is just this sort of taxation without real representation that motivated the then tea baggers to rebel in 1773.
You are absolutr right.
I change away from this guy whenever he appears. He is a gossip loving cretin that was besotted of GWB because he appeared to be so masculine to him.
He is an emasculated teeny bopper who drools over anyone that talks tough but who at heart is a lying coward. Any praise of tweety is misplaced.
If you really think this post was about praising Chris Matthews, reading comprehension is not your strong suit. Tweety’s head pat took 3 words of a 152 word post.
Get a grip.
Finally, Chris Matthews makes a good point. But do you know why he’s such an expert on deficits? His daughter works for some Daughters of the American Revolution group or something whose focus is on the deficit. What kind of sad, confused woman just out of college works for a group that harps about deficits? This deficit-hawk fundamentalism is a big factor in why Matthews is all of a sudden against many of the Democratic president’s initiatives like the public option, although he’s still careful to make nods to Keynesian realism.
Interesting.
I don’t think it was “about” praising Chris Mathews….but you did….and it needs to stop.
I also don’t think this is main page post worthy material.. A teabagger was made to look foolish? so what that happens every day and could be accomplished by a 3rd grader.
Now if you wanted to debate what the guy was talking about that’s fine, but that was not the context of your post. The context was “this guys an idiot LOLZZZZZZZZZ!” And that’s not even close to being debate of any kind.
This is why we get a bad name.
Uh, your entire comment was about how I was praising Matthews. And I don’t think you know what “context” means.
The post, since you still obviously don’t get it, is about Teabaggers’ claiming to be against deficits, and the problematic fact that Republican presidents, especially Reagan, have been the worst deficit spenders. And the guy you dismiss as a “moron” happens to be one of the movements’ leaders — not some random loser.
And the point that Reagan added more to the debt than any president in history cannot be thrown in these peoples’ faces often enough.
Hope that helps.
