Sarah Palin declares Mao-hats for everyone! Glenn Beck has a thought (hold the presses!) and says to his audience of septuagenarians:
And I also said why don’t you just abolish Medicare, because it’s so wildly corrupt and out of control.
And about two-million seventy-year old global warming deniers ["the Science isn't clear!"] who are also Rapture enthusiasts ["the evidence is overwhelming!"] momentarily stopped painting that Sarah Palin figurine intended to replace the Virgin Mary in their Nativity Scene and yelled out, “Yeah, get rid of Medicare for everyone (except me of course)!”

About Firedoglake
I was forced to comment on the green hat earlier tonight. Such poor taste.
Simple and beautifully phrased.
That cry for demolishing medicare will be music to the ears of anyone who happens to have elderly in the family – whose care will devolve on them if the medicare, that they’ve all happily been contributing to for their entire working lives, is gone.
Don’t forget the Levi Johnston figurine for the Little Drummer Boy (pa rum pum pum pum).
it’s kind of funny beck would disenfrahcise his constituents but this meme isn’t knew, they’ve been wanting the medicare dollar for quite some time
what’s really funny is the fact that even the concept of a monetary system
is a social project, once you believe in money you are a soocialist as well
I think if I told that to beck his head would burst
ROTFL!!!
Why not investigate KBR and the showers that electrocuted our troops Glen that corruption killed our troops ya jerk and cost us money.
Evidence Glen about the corruption because Medicare still costs less than what private insurance would cost for old people if they all had to buy some on the private market.
Maybe we should investigate insurance company profit? Maybe we should regulate insurance company profit so its less than the supposedly corrupt medicare system?
After all free enterprise should be cheaper than government run healthcare right Glen?
We need to anger Glen more his audience is older White Males many I assume are suffering in this economy we need the Dems to say Glen Beck and the GOP want to take away your Medicare!
Totally OT
As I was paying bills this morning I noticed that my drug (legal) purchases last year totaled $14.77. My part ‘D’ premium, which I am forced have to have being a senior citizen and on medicare, totaled $308.40. Part ‘D’ paid none of my drug costs.
Insane but that is the wonderful health care plan in ‘Murca.
Tell me Glen what happens to Healthcare providers and drug stocks if suddenly Medicare is gone and only those people who can afford private insurance in this economy or heck even in Bill Clinton’s economy who could afford private Health Insurance are suddenly their only customers?
Can anyone say run on the stock market? Good thing the Market does not take you serious Glen I’ve seen rumors like this when taken seriously drop the Stock Market.
I opt out of ‘D’ since I don’t have any drug prescriptions, altho I realize I’m supposed to be threatened with higher costs as penalty when I do enroll. solution; stay away from doctors?
Not off topic we obviously need to expand what Medicare covers.
His real constituents want this his
Audienceer Dupes whom he is payed to scam are just being taken again.Just like they are being taken by Glen’s gold pushing.
Maybe we sell global warming as the End Times? Then we say only the environmentalists who care about the planet God gave us are going to the Rapture!
I was under the impression that I was required to have a part ‘D’ but then again I have immediate brain fade dealing with insurance for health. (I am from Europe where we have FREE health care). As for doctors my primary is a good friend over about thirty years and I have told him that the next time he sees me I will be on my death bed. A caveat: If I do get very sick I can hop a plane back to Europe and get free health care as I still hold my Irish passport.
Nobel ceremony now on C-Span2 for those interested.
God Created the Caribou that live on the land in Alaska that Sarah wants to drill on. God Created the Polar Bears that were starving as the ice floes melted, God created the wolves Sarah likes people to hunt in airplanes.
Personally I think if you can afford an airplane ride to kill wolves you can afford a lot more steaks than you are likely to get hunting wolves.
Regardless God created these creatures!
In crying:( Maybe we need to start mentioning how many Iraqi’s and Afghani’s killed and made refugees under Obama’s term.
The Left if we could ever get our ideas on tv could rank on Obama way worse than Fox News can without the lies.
They haven’t figured out that O’s words are meaningless.
Morning all.
You mean gawd didn’t create the airplanes?
Heat wave has begun here. Current temp 9 – high today 29
Geez peace prize guy quoting Reagan. Scraping the bottom of the barrel.
They know its just to late to cancel. The Nobel has to worry they may end up like Time’s man of the Year.
That warm where your from?
Sounds like a lot of rationalization going on about giving it to O. Citing all the other awardees who they gave it to whose accomplishments didn’t amount to much.
West of Denver
Wouldn’t it be a stich if they said they’d reconsidered after the surge and wouldn’t award it this year.
I agree that it’s been debased. Econ prize too.
You can actually even opt out of medicare altogether. I also have a dear friend who happens to be a doctor who particularly tells me to stay out of hospitals. Especially the local one.
Quoting Reagan for a peace prize thats a new low its like quoting Nancy about stopping drug abuse after Iran Contra.
That would be Great! Of course I’m still waiting for Judy Miller to get her Pulitzer Prise taken away.
I also stay away from docs. Just turned 65, but other than an epi pen prescription (just to have on hand after I got my beehive) I haven’t been to a doc in years. Blessed with good health though.
Good morning, pups. Nicholas Kristof is off today, so Ms. Collins flies solo. In “The Joys of Political Sex” she says news about Tiger Woods doesn’t compare to the excitement of sexual misbehavior that can be investigated by a legislative committee.
Here she is.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup this morning. Sleeping in a bit on a day off is a lovely thing. And I don’t have to go to work tomorrow either, except to attend the enforced conviviality of the office holiday party. Have a great day.
I don’t miss office parties.
Me too (except for the EpiPen). I work for them, but other than the eye doctor for my glasses I can’t recall the last time I actually went to a doctor.
Did you know that whole Rapture nonsense was made up by some Scottish woman in the 19th century? (Per an episode called “The End of Life as We Know It” from To the Best of Our Knowledge)
I turned 65 in August, the medicare exam is the first time I’ve been in to docs in a long time. Also, have good health, and take care of it.
One good thing about giving the pp to O. It’s probably making W mad.
I wonder who has killed more the Peace or the Econ Prize winners all the victims of the Shock Doctrine Death Squads in South America vs the body count from Kissinger and Obama?
I am willing to reconsider Obama if he ends both wars in his first term and goes after Bushies who ordered torture.
Forget the small fries doing it I want the punks who gave the orders!
If Medicare was ended 1/2 of all hospitals in the US would be bankrupt within a year. Well I picked the number out of the air. Pharma sales would suffer radical declines. Those medicare dollars are the marginal dollars that underpin the entire health care industry. The system is corrupt only to the extent medical providers are corrupt. Oh there are probably a couple of people working within the medicare bureaucracy who have managed to steal money from it by themselves, without industry partners. Precious few. If there is a way for individuals to steal from it I can’t think, unless it is reselling drugs they are provided. So they can buy dogfood to eat and the hell with that joint pain.
Miz Beasley had better watch out today — he strikes me as the type who kicks small animals when he’s frustrated.
I don’t have to go to eye doc anymore once I got lasik. Of course, the doc wants me to come back every year for a checkup but I decided that was a racket. (Last time I went, the office visit was $340.)
What is the Rapture nonsense?
Well, O has been very definitive in both words and actions that he’s not going after any U.S. torturers, so forget that.
As to ending the wars, that doesn’t look likely. But miracles could happen.
I listened to the McChrystallball and Imaberry congressional testimony the other day. Talk about grand plans to do nation building, from the tribal level upwards. Raise the drawbridge! (Height of hubris is flea floating down the river on his back, saying raise the drawbridge, I’ve got a hardon.)
You did notice that the pups bite? Good thing the twins moved out already.
As a youth he popped firecrackers into frogs.
Here comes the thumb in the eye of the committee.
Beck has not recovered at all from his addictions. Like the drunkard, Joe McCarthy the alcoholic who died an alcoholic, his actions had a profound negative impact on America. Beck who claims abstinence sounds to me like a “dry drunk.” Akin to the “Joe,” Beck still preys on the same illogical dysfunctions, fears and ignorance’s of America. How many of the brain’s neurons and transmitters are killed when alcohol is consumed? Might be a systemic problem. Alcohol’s use and dead brain cells?
TCU@44:
The whole story about end times that some fundamentalists believe and that series of novels that are so popular are based on.
I thought Obama swore no Nation building? I think McChrystal skipped the West Point classes on Viet Nam.
O: I’m the commander in chief. Nya, nya, nya, nya.
Then shows a nodding acquaintance with just war theory. (Always thought that was an oxymoron.)
McC thinks that the Strategic Village plan was working out just fine, until … He actually said that during his testimony. When asked about his reading about Britain & Soviets in Afghanistan, and what he had learned, his A was (drum roll): humility.
Thats fake all of it….ok I need to read the bible more. I never read revelation much its like reading a confused bad drug trip.
Then like joe once he loses his audience he will hit bottom quick. I assume he is substituting booze with something so either he goes off the deep end on the new stuff or he gets back on booze.
Outside of Rush whats the average life span of a Conservative nut job before they flame out?
Sometimes what you say is scarier than anything I’ve seen in a horror movie.
That is the end of part ‘d’ for me. No more premiums, yippee.
We got a General who thinks he can win Viet Nam fighting the same way and Economists in the WH who want to refight the Great depression Herbert Hoover’s way.
I’m not sure which is worse.
Children (especially your own) have a very strong sense of hypocrisy. U.S. prezes have none. When & how do they lose it? (Rhetorical Q)
O’s droning on about how great U.S. interventions abroad have created a more peaceful world. Omits Iraq2, among many others that could be cited, and omits all those places where there isn’t any oil and thus the U.S. did not intervene, like Congo.
I’m not saying anything, just reporting.
Right
No need to choose. All of the above is the correct answer.
A true nightmare..Dan Bartlett on CBS…WHY?
O: tough luv for regimes that break rules. Scanctions must extract a real price. Nukes. Heh. Was anyone surprised that he presages his taking Iran to the woodshed.
Warns about the danger of an arms race in ME. But Israel is exempt, of course.
Actually, there is one circumstance where I would completely support getting rid of Medicare (and since I’m pushing seventy, it’s MY Medicare) along with private insurance as well. My solution is simple: everyone, birth to death, citizen or non-citizen, male or female, no matter the medical problem, can get any medical care they need whenever they need it. All they have to do is make an appointment (or visit an emergency room, whichever is more appropriate for the moment at hand), get all the care needed or required, and then, whenever appropriate, walk out the door and go home without ever paying a single red cent for any of the care received.
How to pay for it? Simple. Take it out of the Pentagon’s unbelievably excessive budget. Cut the military back to a far more Constitutional defense only military (leave not a penny for warmongering or imperialism), then spend the other 95% on the well-being of people rather on killing them.
Oh, and also raise taxes on million dollar incomes — a rate of 60% sounds fair.
This Iran?
Peace is unstable where speech is not free, unless it’s speech by U.S. lefties, which Rahm is hard on supressing.
O yeh, so he can tell the Pres how to win back the public….like he did for W, thank yo.
I think I’m reading you wrong, your not suggesting our interventions worked in oil countries?
We with England deposed the democratically elected leader of Iran put in the Shah which led to the Fundies taking over. When Democracy fails Religion takes over.
Yes, that one. So let’s put punishing sanctions on. That worked out so well for the people of Iraq.
Ok the facts you report I’m not seeing mentioned on the news. Course thats why I come here.
No, I said that he omitted Iraq2 from his list of U.S. successes.
Acccording to Overthrow by Kinzer, of the 14 regime changes that he discusses starting with Hawaii in 1893, all of them except possibly Puerto Rico, turned out to be much worse for the residents at the time of the overthrow.
We did create that mess.

Palin on NBC…WHY? To argue wih Al Gore….What a crazy world. Pat Buchanan likes it!!!
Adding it to my reading list I’m so far behind.
I thought America’s legacy was to be the protection of right(s) of people from intrusions by religious fundamentalist concerning private matters. To protect the right(s) of people from states which discriminate or segregate people into different classed based on sex, race, color or creed, basically conditions into which one is born, randomly, pre exist! Like pre existing prejudices usually predicated on ignorance but with a very real economic consequences.
One American founder envisioned a wall between church and state. Nice job protecting the rights of woman in this healthcare insurance protection fraud scheme.
A policy predicated on the usurpation of individual rights to the corporate interest for reasons of cost, and religious absolutist in a free society?
Funny how corporate America has no problem fucking America for decades where we wasted .75 cents of every AMERICAN DOLLAR spent on the potential energy gasoline for decades, replacing slaves and cattle powered farm plows?? State’s Rights slave owners yelled “Can’t free the slaves, it will cost to much.” Deja Vu!
Corporate Sodomy American Style, as Jefferson warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overthrow covers most of them. But of course not in as much detail as a book that covers only one U.S. overthrow.
Two lines in the speech got applause. Don’t remember what they were.
Looking at the details in common of our many failures would be good. What would be better looking at the Marshal Plan and our peaceful success..then getting Congress to read it.
democracynow covering the speech which just ended. Amy must have a fabulous crew. She’s broadcasting from Copenhagen.
If you know of a good book on the Marshall Plan, please let me know. The one I bought is semi-academic and far too much into the details for my purposes.
I’ll look at the library and tell you if I find a good book.
Thanks.
Well Said Agreed!
Good. No reason to pay for things you don’t use. ( And you can get your taxes done free here, too. By AARP. )
Where is the Viagra when you need it?
Precisely!
Kim Jong bought it all cause he pays less than Americans do for all his drugs!
U.S. Chief Climate Negotiator categorically rejects reparations to countries that suffer the most but played no role in causeing the climate crisis.
Mornin’, Attaturk, pups
Sure hope we don’t have another day at the Lake like yesterday.
From NYT on the Nobel Peace Prize:
How the fuck does one “preserve peace” by killing people?
Maybe they’d read it as long as it’s not longer than a hundred pages. /s
Neoliberalism.
Been away for 2 days working. What happened?
Mornin’, rxbusa
That was a piece on Obama accepting the Peace Prize in Olso this morning. War kinda makes me gnarly in the mornin’.
Guest on democracynow points out how much more productive alternate use of the $30 billion going into Afghan surge could be.
About the irony of the prize while the country’s at war…..
heh
I saw that thread punk Jane concern troll still did not change a single person’s mind so aside from making us angry and more committed just what was the point?
The GOP wins when we are fat, happy and don’t care about the issues. Exposing what hateful chumps the GOP really is is counter productive.
Such as do tell.
I listened to the whole speech. It was a rationaliztion for war, with very sleective read of U.S. role in the world in the last 60 years. Triumphalism, you might not be surprised to learn.
He’s the head of Green Peace, and a South African. At the climate change summit, so he’s pushing climate reparations.
I put the nobel speech text in a diary over at The Seminal for anyone that is interested.
http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/18316
good morning to your gnarly self! Yeah, I know whatcha mean. I’m trying not to be grumpy about it…although I did tell several people at my meeting about the email you sent suggesting to the WH that they donate the prize money to the victims of drone bombings. One of my colleagues pointed out that the money would probably then be used to fund terrorism.
sigh. your gnarliness is warranted.
I’m good with that.
O, but the Repubs will be surprised; they all think O. hates America. Go figure.
Good point. The Rs will pick out those parts of the speech that said that the U.S. should work with other countries and follow the rules. (That’s the part of the speech that O won’t match his words with actions.)
Why am I not surprised?
War is good business and the Village Idiots are all about business.
I could see getting all pissy about this if the dude had applied for the stupid fucking award
Ok your right I’m pissed they were not more careful.
Watching the lovely Janine Farver on WMNF. Florida Folk Show is about to come on and we’re usually treated to the last 5 minutes of Janine’s Morning Show on Thurday mornings via webcam.
I speculate a huge supply went to Al Anbar and Afghanistan to buy tribal allegiances from….. Sheiks. Love those harems! The opium dealers will soon be writing and pushing for laws in Iraq and Afghanistan to make illegal Viagra. Viagra sales are increasing and will cut to much into the opium dealer’s profits!!!!
Spot on scary likely scenario.
First claims for unemployment compensation rose by 17,000 over last week.
Viewing alert: Ratigan to discuss Wyden-Collins amendments on healthcare coming up this hour on MSNBC
Oh very nice. I found it on the web and it reminds me of some of the public radio stations up in Northern California and Oregon…State of Jefferson they call it. In the mornings they have a nice eclectic mix of music I put on computer while I work sometimes.
I’ll have to bookmark this one as an alternative. Thanks, SD!
You know, the more I think about the speech, the more remarkable it becomes. In accepting the PP, O spent the entire speech on the use of force. Simply astounding.
Warren calls TARP “bait & switch.”
New post up top…
You can watch Florida Folk Show live at FolklureTV The guy at the main mic is Pete Gallagher and the gray haired dude with the guitar is Ronnie Elliott.
You start listening to WMNF you’ll be hooked in no time.
Geez how I wish Warren were in a position of real responsibility.
The Peace Prize???? Henry Kissinger was awarded the “Peace Prize” jointly with his North Vietnamese counterpart who turned it down not wanting to be associated with Kissinger.
new post 2 flights up…
I actually think you can dump Part D.
I am in the same situation: on Medicare, but no drug costs. Partly that’s because I can’t find a doctor who will accept new Medicare patients, and thus I can’t get any prescriptions, but that’s another story.
Did anyone else see Jonathan Turley on Keith last night, describing how the Obama administration’s brief re “no prosecution” of Yoo was undoing Nuremburg & Geneva?
