I had a bad cold, the worst in years, that lasted the usual week and a half. I’m all recovered now, but spent a lot of time sleeping (and hacking, but you don’t need to know that).
Was also cold outside last night. Or else my wireless outdoor thermometer was hooked up to your base (a continent away), as I think the overnight lows were identical. Got up to 40 today, though.
glad you are feeling better. we got up to 37 here. i’m thinking of getting a personal weather station — i can only track the rainfall and it monitors temps outdoors and inside.
My hunter friend down the road does weather recording, including rainfall. So if I need to know, I just ask him. I do have a wireless indoor-outdoor thermometer, which records the high and low until you clear it, which I usually do once/day. Finding a place where the outdoor unit will not be in the sun at any point during the day is a bit tricky.
I played it for the first time when I was 20. It’s like Billiards, on a much bigger [and colder] surface.
I’ve been hooked on it ever since … watching it, that is; use every spare minute to write or with the kiddies, which leaves no time for playing in a League.
Geez, that’s weather worthy of VT. I stopped skiing in VT in favor of the west (UT), on account of temp & conditions, but if it’s gonna be below zero in Denver, I’d have to reassess.
got down to 13.3 last nite. all the cold of snow but none of the eye candy. its very dry cold air — last night the dew point was -1 so there were no sparkles on the deck.
No, no pictures. The Cleveland Skating Club has an awesome team, but we don’t belong (heh, heh, like I ever would). But, curling is very popular here in the snowbelt.
I worked at Sugarbush for the ’93 season, skid “Bad Liver Glenn” very badly, and settled out working the ’94 season in Burlington. It was the coldest winter I ever experienced.
My last acquaintance with earth science was freshman HS, over a half century ago. I remember that I sat by a window, one of the boys in the class took off his shoes, and they were surruptiously taken, passed around until I got them and put them on the window sill. When class ended, Paul realized his shoes were gone & them the usual HS stuff transpired.
Other than that, I remember that I found all the stuff associated with weather maps to be opaque.
Mad River Glen is where I learned to ski. I still own a share of stock. I could have stayed with my friend who had a ski house nearby at any time (now deceased), but forewent the experience for the last 15 years.
i took biology my sophomore year of high school, loved it enough to apply for bio 2 my junior year. my senior year of high school i was working on independent projects and ta’ing the bio 2 students.
It was wonderful (see above) and I loved Brooklyn. I miss them, and had a great time seeing where they live, and the restaurants and places we visited.
Seems to me that hitting the bar would be a pregame thing. Curling is the sort of thing you do where you’ve had a couple and will do anything to ward off cabin fever.
Cahnstance C. (for Cat) Cahn. No remarks on the naming of cats, please.
Actually, the midwife in the deal requested I name her Constance, owing to the fact that the Manhattan street cat was so loyal to the building where the construction crew adopted her. I just tweeked it.
She obviously had a loving home, as her personality is beyond reproach, and when I took her to the vet 2 weeks after adopting her, we learned she was spayed. No chip though, so I can’t return her or let her former home know she ended up in a good place.
Yeah, smaller ones are pretty gone, the other two or three bigger bushes will go tonight likely.
I’ll pull what’s green on the vines, and they all gotta come out to make pretty out front.
I’m jonesin for fresh basil, too . . . . Can’t get seeds to come up past month, and the rest of the plants are now gone, in past week, also . . . sigh.
bio 2 did soil and plant studies on mt diablo, tidepool marine life counts on the coast, and we even spent a day out on the delta on a official fed boat (i forget the agency) doing water and microbial life studies.
Did you ever pass by Maria Von Trapp, driving that frikking Volvo of hers at about 1,000 mile per hour? She almost killed me one time, busting out of The Shedd.
I waited on her once, at some birthday party of some mutual friend of theirs at the Radisson in Burlington. Was strange.
funny! i heard it never got above freezing in seattle today. i watched that procession and memorial service all day. got up early to see it at 10am. long cold day
Say I was doing a post about, um, Fidelio. Transposing to today, would you say it would be culturally translatable if I called Leonore “Justice” and Florestan “Rule of Law”? In other words, if I did that with a whole lot of palaver going on, would that make sense to you as an opera person?
Yes drove Rte100 more white knuckle miles than I care to remember. Like hitting you head against the wall, it feels so good when you stop.
My friend lived on Brag Hill. Once I drove up from New Paltz late afternoon. When I got to VT, there was a freezing rain, but going up over the gap, I was behind a salter-sander plow, so I forged on. Then, at the last turnback, it did. I pulled over, so did the car behind me. We spoke and decided to give it a try. Going uphill was fine, but when we got to the top, he (who was then in the lead) pulled over again, and requested that I hang back downhill. I told him I’d planned on that. Boy was I ever glad to arrive at my destination that night.
Your standard gray cat with yellow eyes. Lighter on the belly with visible stripes. She’s a lovey, lap cat. Vet thought she was over 2 years old (teeth wear), but I’ve gotten her to play with a ball on a string or with me. She plays very gently, no nails.
i watched it non stop from 10am until it was over at 530. very sad day. petro — your mounties — over 1,000 of them showed up for the memorial services for the 4 fallen lakewood officers. they looked like a marching red carpet as they marched into the tacoma dome.
OK! You’ve told me what I need to know. I’ll get back to you on the rest of it later.
But there’s one absolutely unbeatable swell thing from the “nazi” production the Met did in 2003 that’s completely translatable to today. “O Welche Lust”
service was to start at 1 but the last of the 2,000 emergency vehicles in the procession didn’t leave the staging area 10 miles away until 130. 20,000 cops and 200 family members filled the tacoma dome.
Hi Suz! Got the tree and decorations up and it looks great. Spence loves it and sleeps under the tree on the apron. So far, he’s not dining on the tree.
I’m still pissed about the last biology course I took(1990 so you can figure that I can hold a grudge). Basically it was Bio for engineering majors and insultingly simple. The thing that pissed me off was that the text was used for ONE semester. I had to pay full price and the couldn’t even recoup the half price at the bookstore. As a stray thought, engineering seems to attract tightwads.
Hah! Just got my 3rd as a Christmas present from my bro 2 years ago. For my birthday that year, he got me BS&T ” Child is the Father to Man.” Not many LPs I love any better than those two!
Wow, that sound so good. I probably fried up several tons of fish and chips when I was a short-order cook but haven’t eaten any in 25 years. I don’t like to rush things.
The place is a rather authentic british pub. The funny thing is that there is not a single store in my area that stocks malt viniger. The local Safeway stocks fourteen kinds of balsomic viniger, but not malt. I had to give the barkeep a largish tip to aquire one of the bar bottles. (You have to forgive my spelling, I was a deprived child.)
I always wished I could play pedal steel but they’re so freaking expensive. Lap steels are pretty reasonable. I have a nut extender I could put on my Strat if I ever get to where I can bear to take it out of the case again.
‘evening Suze & Pups! I left work early and battled the blizzard … driving wasn’t too bad, probably because all the SUVs were cowering in their garages.
Lots of great tunes tonight, i was lucky to make it to the end of the thread!
Probably E or D. Not Lowell George’s open A, which will bow your neck or possibly put an eye out if you pop a string. Not really but it does put a lot of tension on yer g’tar.
This has been way fun Pups . . . but I gotta git, early stuff to tend to . . . . till we do it again, be well and if it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing!
Don’t think so. Picked it up pretty cheap second hand about 20 years ago. I was used to playing acoustic with medium gauge strings and never got comfortable with the lighter touch required, so stuck with acoustic. Would be good for slide, though. Just not comfortable picking it up. My brain has never quite realized my hands can’t form chords. I dream I’m playing sometimes. Lots better than I did in real life, too…
there is one an hour north in cannon beach and another one an hour 15 south of me in otter rock. haven’t been but there is only one name for chowder on the oregon coast — moe :)
thanks for the healing vibes, Pups! I thought i felt my eye patch vibrating while i was off puttering around.
well, i suppose i should head for bed, gonna see if i can manage a full day at work tomorrow. After the latest eye surgery on Friday 12/4, i was prepared for a week off. Alas, they discovered a new tear and partial detachment while doing the vitrectomy. So that means a new medical air bubble in my eye and “upright and quiet” rather than horizontal while healing. Thus work is good. Sigh.
Goodnight Suzanne and bloggers. 15 below south of Denver bout 40 miles
27 degrees in Los Osos
In Oregon they talk about the Ducks who won the pack ten, beat the Beavers in the civil war. I had no idea though I am a U of O grad. Congratulations ducks. Nite all
zed!
Tagged it! Hey Suzanne.
For Mary & Marcy @ EW. Steely Dan – Reelin In The Years
mary!
Well, I’m all rested up from my cold recuperation period, so am up for LLN.
hey mr why — i’ve not heard that in a while… thanks
late, late – yippee!
Suz ! Mary ! eCAHN !
You made it ! *g*

petro! dood how’s toronto tonight?
You made it!
it’s been so darned long, I can’t remember what I’ve posted in the past, or just thought about….
nice to be back, and to see you all.
Are you ready for the snowstorm ?
I had a bad cold, the worst in years, that lasted the usual week and a half. I’m all recovered now, but spent a lot of time sleeping (and hacking, but you don’t need to know that).
Was also cold outside last night. Or else my wireless outdoor thermometer was hooked up to your base (a continent away), as I think the overnight lows were identical. Got up to 40 today, though.
nice to see your fonts again dood. reruns are always good to visit again yanno.
OMG! I love “reeling in the years”!
When I unpacked the synth a couple years ago, that’s one of the first tunes I revived. Here: http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x79/flat_denver/?action=view¤t=Reeling_in_the_Years.flv
Still haven’t gotten anywhere with finding a singer though. Truth is, I haven’t worked very hard at it though.
We’re preparing for our first snowstorm … 3-5 inches of snow, mixed with lots of frizzin’ Rain.
The Streets will be like a giant Curling Rink …
Got stacks of wood and a freezer full of food. So yes. You?
Mid 30s. Enough of this nonsense, I’m moving to California.
Oh wait…
Sending eCAHN a large Toddy … take care, that cough is terrible this year.
Get out your brooms. (Do you understand curling, and if so, could you explain the attraction?)
glad you are feeling better. we got up to 37 here. i’m thinking of getting a personal weather station — i can only track the rainfall and it monitors temps outdoors and inside.
eg! sorry bout you getting some of our cold down there. layers and warm socks.
so anyway, i was looking for some Neil, with Nicolette Larson doing the high harmony. No go, really.
On this one though, you can at least hear her back there (not much of a vid, tho):
Neil Young – Four Strong Winds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfZes9fFmXc&feature=PlayList&p=1F0250B9E5A9E6EA&index=0&playnext=1
As I live alone (except for my new cat, and SouthernDragon assures me I’m not contagious to her), I can hack away with abandon. Pretty much done now.
heh.
hiya, eg!
(Do you understand curling, and if so, could you explain the attraction?)
It’s like bowling for ice fishermen. :)
We’re supposed to get “wintry mix” with 40 mph gusts. I have to start the pinto beans, almost forgot!
nice….. it is the music that matters not the video
funny.
hah! snow in the bay area!
hey montag — how ya doing tonight?
ROFL !!!
I just took the time to look at the Maddow interview of Richard Cohen.
Is there something wrong with that name? This guy has all the chops of his namesake at the WaPoo.
pun! dood
It’s 31 outside.
It’s -2 here, and there’s a breeze, so whatever windchill that makes it; -9, -10?
But whatever, it’s fekking COLD here in Denver right now.
Looks even slower than bowling to me.
hey kelly — stephanie said she was postponing the drive back to your neck of the woods until maybe thursday. she said kansas was covered with ice.
Super popular here in Cleveland…always a mystery!
Dude:
Richard = Dick
Cohen = bad spelling of hebrew for “priest”.
Dick Priest. The irony is delicious.
that’s what i’ve got. i want to know wind speed and the whole 9 yards. i’m a science geek at heart.
hey Suz – Hwy 17 summit had a good dusting of snow yesterday. Mt. Diablo had plenty of it.
I played it for the first time when I was 20. It’s like Billiards, on a much bigger [and colder] surface.
I’ve been hooked on it ever since … watching it, that is; use every spare minute to write or with the kiddies, which leaves no time for playing in a League.
Okay, and you?
Still kinda chilly, though… but, the snow has stopped. :)
and here’s one where you can see her, but it’s not as good a song…
Emmylou is the finest high-harmony female singer to ever come along, imo., but Nicolette did some pretty fine stuff too. Anyway -
Neil Young – Homegrown live at Farm Aid II:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EHuqGKU-c0
Only if you live up in the hills. Down here on the valley floor last time it snowed it was 89 or 90(year I mean).
ce! got pictures?
It IS! Ice crazy. It hasn’t been above 16, 18 degrees since Saturday night here.
Geez, that’s weather worthy of VT. I stopped skiing in VT in favor of the west (UT), on account of temp & conditions, but if it’s gonna be below zero in Denver, I’d have to reassess.
Nicely done ! *g*
got down to 13.3 last nite. all the cold of snow but none of the eye candy. its very dry cold air — last night the dew point was -1 so there were no sparkles on the deck.
Oh Kelly,
My son left Denver this year for a move to NYC. He is so looking forward to skiing…maybe a chance this winter again.
So you must love Rachel’s geek segments as much as I do. I was a chemistry major as an undergraduate.
i’m really into earth sciences. always wanting to know the why and the how.
Excellent ! Do send this off to Rachel, she’ll get a chuckle reading it.
No, no pictures. The Cleveland Skating Club has an awesome team, but we don’t belong (heh, heh, like I ever would). But, curling is very popular here in the snowbelt.
brrrrrr….
Know what you mean.
I worked at Sugarbush for the ’93 season, skid “Bad Liver Glenn” very badly, and settled out working the ’94 season in Burlington. It was the coldest winter I ever experienced.
sorry — i was asking about trip pictures.
tis 19.8 at the moment.
Sarah Palin, intended tomatee, puts the ‘asp‘ in tomato aspic.
It usually has a bar within the building for post game socializing.
There are hundreds, maybe thousands of classic rock tunes I don’t care if I ever hear them again.
Reeling In The Years, or anything off of Can’t Buy A Thrill go with me to the Island.
Reelin is good in so many ways it’s insane . . . like Butterfield’s Band, on Work Song, a perfect arrangement in every way.
Hi CE!
Actually, the skiing is better in SLC, powderwise, than here in CO up in Summit County.
The thing is, CO is party and brew pub country, and UT sucks at that part of the deal. (Shhh, on the powder thing, mkay?)
Yes, we have some. MrCE just sent them to my gmail. Will get back to you.
Oh Kelly,
My son left Denver this year for a move to NYC. He is so looking forward to skiing…
well, I’m obviously missing something.
Didn’t realize that there was skiing available in NYC.
(except as a possible means of escape)(
necessityFEAR is the mother of invention, I suppose….)29F as I type, here in Sacto, at basically sea level . . .
thanks hon — was the trip as grand as you thought it would be?
no more ‘maters
My last acquaintance with earth science was freshman HS, over a half century ago. Other than that, I remember that I found all the stuff associated with weather maps to be opaque.
Ah, perhaps, Palin’s reach has exceeded her asp.
Come on down!!
No live version of Neil and Nic with A Lotta Love? That surprises me . . never liked that song but hey . . .
a balmy 43 full degrees here in Indy today.
‘Course, it snowed like a bitch yesterday.
lotta covers is all.
Sorry, jayt,
He misses all the wonderful things in Denver and the skiing. Life in NYC has other advantages.
Congrats on the new kitty! What’s her name? (his name?)
Heh, when I heard the name I was all PNAC and NeoCon gone too . . . . ughhhhhhh . . . .
Mad River Glen is where I learned to ski. I still own a share of stock. I could have stayed with my friend who had a ski house nearby at any time (now deceased), but forewent the experience for the last 15 years.
i took biology my sophomore year of high school, loved it enough to apply for bio 2 my junior year. my senior year of high school i was working on independent projects and ta’ing the bio 2 students.
how is so cal tonight loohoo?
It was wonderful (see above) and I loved Brooklyn. I miss them, and had a great time seeing where they live, and the restaurants and places we visited.
Seems to me that hitting the bar would be a pregame thing. Curling is the sort of thing you do where you’ve had a couple and will do anything to ward off cabin fever.
this would be about the point in the evening where I start showing my age.
Old Poco:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flj8LQi7uww
I was just goofin’.
hey drouse — how ya doing tonight?
My dad was into curling when we lived in Minnesota. I semi-remember the games. Cold is the main thing I remember!
No chip though, so I can’t return her or let her former home know she ended up in a good place.
all the holiday decorations and lights and windows *sigh*
I loved the labs.
heh.. “there you go again”… :~)
Alright! Had a nap earlier and am now more awake than I want to be.
Yeah, smaller ones are pretty gone, the other two or three bigger bushes will go tonight likely.
I’ll pull what’s green on the vines, and they all gotta come out to make pretty out front.
I’m jonesin for fresh basil, too . . . . Can’t get seeds to come up past month, and the rest of the plants are now gone, in past week, also . . . sigh.
I’ll take spooning over curling, if that’s OK with y’all.
Which is why Beers are an important part of a winning strategy ! *g*
bio 2 did soil and plant studies on mt diablo, tidepool marine life counts on the coast, and we even spent a day out on the delta on a official fed boat (i forget the agency) doing water and microbial life studies.
and as ta i got to do it all over again.
Indy? Indianapolis?
seconded.
Wow, I woulda figgered Nic and Neil would be all over UTube . . .
Forecast low of 10 degrees here tomorrow night, 12 the next night. Keeping long pants handy just in case it ever gets really cold.
shrudder… i’m looking like ralphie with so many layers on my layers.
It was beautiful — the lights and sparkle wonderful. MsCE and we bought a tree and set it up in Brooklyn. We parted this morning. You know.
I love Poco… and the rest of the Okefenokee gang.
This sounds better than 35 years ago. Stick with it, it’s an incredible rendition.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2Kcs4Xmb8k
yup. i know. sounds like a wonderful trip. i’m a sucker for sparkle and glitz
Still and quiet. About 60 degrees I would guess. It was so wonderful to have the glorious rain yesterday, though. Rain twice in two weeks!
emerson – dood — how ya been?
Heh, then you drove Route 100 more than once.
Was strange.
wow, busy around here tonight!
Hi, Suz and Pups!
FWDiva
Poco! Like 1970?
real men wear shorts no matter what the temp is.
Of course, I most emphatically exclude myself from this requirement – I *hate* being cold….
OMFG, it’s 21.9 degrees here. No wonder my car heater can’t keep up.
Fork!!!
Good thing I have a fuzzy cat to keep me warm!
FWDiva
Çool! Describe her, please! Color, hair length, personality, etc.
funny! i heard it never got above freezing in seattle today. i watched that procession and memorial service all day. got up early to see it at 10am. long cold day
Sorry, just making a possum play on words.
I posted a version of this once with Emmylou and Elvis Costello. Here’s the original (again, no vid to speak of – too far back in the day)
Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris [live] – Love Hurts:

Hey there!
Gimme a quick opinion, please.

To be honest even my long pants are short pants, bad form to have the cuff reach the fly.
In honor of the season, and the raging storm outside my Window … It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas – Mr. Perry Como

Funny Hussein Diva!!!
Never ran into the Von Trapps.

Have I mentioned lately, how much I enjoy the Music on this Blog ?
Emerson !
No, I believe we haven’t been above freezing in daaaaays.
Thank goodness it’s been dry.
I imagine that memorial was quite something.
FWDiva
Hotpants!
Aw Petro,
That is my childhood Christmas Eve! Remember Sing-A-Long with Mitch?
Hiya Funny !
*Slings Fluffy Snowball at Funny*
Your standard gray cat with yellow eyes. Lighter on the belly with visible stripes. She’s a lovey, lap cat. Vet thought she was over 2 years old (teeth wear), but I’ve gotten her to play with a ball on a string or with me. She plays very gently, no nails.
Well…sort of. I’ve only seen Fidelio once. Silly production with Nazis and stuff…
But what about the love triangle aspect?
FWDiva
i watched it non stop from 10am until it was over at 530. very sad day. petro — your mounties — over 1,000 of them showed up for the memorial services for the 4 fallen lakewood officers. they looked like a marching red carpet as they marched into the tacoma dome.

My Dad was a huge fan of Bing, Perry, Nat Cole, etc. so I grew up loving this music.
We endeavor to celebrate the season like in those days … lots of homemade goodies & family time.
service was to start at 1 but the last of the 2,000 emergency vehicles in the procession didn’t leave the staging area 10 miles away until 130. 20,000 cops and 200 family members filled the tacoma dome.
the procession started at 10.
my compliments.
Twice.
thanks.
Hi Suz! Got the tree and decorations up and it looks great. Spence loves it and sleeps under the tree on the apron. So far, he’s not dining on the tree.
I sense happy teeth are forthcoming soon, right?
friday’s the day
Ski Ohio, it’s 39 degrees now. /s
Petro! Sending strong publishing energy your way!
Goodnight all,
See you tomorrow.

this song is better without the original vid.
Jewel and Melissa Etheridge – You Can Sleep While I Drive:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVBYYJ73MsM
How about a barrel and suspenders? Might be a tad drafty though, ‘specially if there’s still beer inside.
hey sunny — how ya doing?
“I can see Mr. Gorbachev tearing down that wall from my house!”
i think the current financial ‘geniuses’ are planning on our returning to that classic style. of course, the fundys will ban beer.
Thank you! The best Christmas song there will ever be.
There’s also “The Way you Look Tonight”
Sunny !
Are ya in the mood for a snowball fight ?
Oh, that Mr. Reagan–always Putin on the Ritz….
Ok, @my 153 I an in great error.
NOT original lineup!
I forgot Messina was original with Furay and Young, and Randy Meissner on bass, not Tim B Schmidt!
So, that lineup is killer, also . . . *G*
707 !!!
Drafty … Beer … well done !
I’ve noticed a disturbing lack of the blues so far this evening.
Let’s fix that.
Roy Buchanan & Albert Collins – Further On Down The Road:

Coolio! Have you got a babysitter for her? Pets and traveling are a problem for me.
I wiped out at LEAST 4 versions of BS’s Retrospective, and still have two copies. *G*
That song is one of the reasons!! Love that tune . . .
oh crap — that drafty beer zoomed right over my head
see what happens when i get up long before the crack of noon!
those guys crossed over so much, forming different bands essentially at the drop of a hat, that it’s damn near impossible to *not* get mixed up.
Do ya like The Flying Burrito Brothers?
Cooking was yesterday. Today I made stock and then hoofed over to the local pub and picked up fish and chips.
Good luck to the fundies with their abstinence only education once everybody’s wearing barrels. There’s more than one way to tap a keg.
Good one !
I Love You … For Sentimental Reasons – Nat King Cole
hahahaha will foment the return of kegger parties
36 here, no snow!…. catch ya later :)
Here ya go.
Good luck to the fundies with their abstinence only education once everybody’s wearing barrels.
Next thing you know, the Wall Streeters will be telling us the economy is “barreling along.”
People all over Oregon saying, “Look at that young woman with that big Christmas smile! Now, that’s the Holiday spirit!”
Bu-bye, Huckabee.
I See London, I See France – icanhascheezburger
Positive wishes!
i’m looking forward to showing it off. i’ve got the perfect cartoon for sat nite to celebrate with.
Hah! Just got my 3rd as a Christmas present from my bro 2 years ago. For my birthday that year, he got me BS&T ” Child is the Father to Man.” Not many LPs I love any better than those two!
yums! wishing for a pub with fish & chips.
*mwaah* … Grazie !
been a long time since we had a music night ’round here. feels like home.
Smokin’!
ok – 2 more songs, and then it’s time to get flat.
requests?
on edit; I just requested one myself.
Europa played by SANTANA – 1976:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdi0NGswSAo
Speaking of BS&T, it is the season, after all.
Pols might, Wall Street isn’t concerned about what have-nots think.
santa lost a ho — i’m still looking for a video of that christmas jug band tune
Excellent tease! Now I’ll have to show up.
yeah, good luck staving off temptation.
Good one!!
Wow, that sound so good. I probably fried up several tons of fish and chips when I was a short-order cook but haven’t eaten any in 25 years. I don’t like to rush things.
santa lost a ho
He’s probably just looking in the wrong part of town.
My fave pick-me-up song – What A Wonderful World
Bravo!
no fair making the bald guy cry…..
Great – renewed my drivers license today without my glasses. Scary.
“Giving Head” takes on a whole new meaning …
That is beautiful. All the songs are way ahead of their time. Like this one:

i was worried when i got my oregon one this year. i know that ‘whew’
Pretend You’re Happy When You’re Blue – Nat Cole

The place is a rather authentic british pub. The funny thing is that there is not a single store in my area that stocks malt viniger. The local Safeway stocks fourteen kinds of balsomic viniger, but not malt. I had to give the barkeep a largish tip to aquire one of the bar bottles. (You have to forgive my spelling, I was a deprived child.)
They had some great moments!
Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons and to this day one of the best ever pedal steel players, Sneaky Pete Kleinow!
Gilded, for sure!
one Flying Burrito Brothers, then one closer, and I’m out the door.
1971 The Flying Burrito Brothers “Six Days on the Road”:
I’m not even gonna admit how many times I saw these guys – gawd, I’m old.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwPTYimAE7E
I don’t know who that fiddle player was, and that was *not* Sneaky Pete on the pedal steel. Still, the best I could come up with.
you’re hot tonight, Suz.
The BS&T is epic!!!
That’s good, a nibble is good.
We Want The Book. Attention, publishers, sign this man up!
i’m fried and running on fumes. been a long day — ya’ll are the ones on fire tonight — i’m just along for the ride.
Hillman was great in every band. I’ve never seen anybody else lift his heel while he sings and plays.
Good lord . . . what a keeper . . . Steve Katz, from Blues Project, along with Al Kooper from Blues Project.
Wow . . . . that’s a pick . . . *bows*
didja see Bill Graham’s billboard? Was that BS & T headlining for Jimi, or two different dates?
See, that’s what happens when you shoot at the Brits and toss them out of yer Country.
We Canucks asked them nicely to leave, and they left us Pubs at every corner, and Malt Vinegar in every Corner Store …
I always wished I could play pedal steel but they’re so freaking expensive. Lap steels are pretty reasonable. I have a nut extender I could put on my Strat if I ever get to where I can bear to take it out of the case again.
Like I said, busy here tonight!
Fork, now we’re down to 21 degrees. Sheesh.
FWDiva
Margot !
It will get done … all thanks to the many good wishes at the Lake.
Here’s a song I’ve been listening to a lot lately, I love the harmonies:
Oil in My Lamp–Byrds
19.5 here
well, I’m going contemporary for a sec – just on account of I like this one.
Santana, Everlast – Put Your Lights On:
kinda going against tonight’s grain, I know, but i tend to do that sort of thing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5di5EhZshdQ
Sets rarely exceeded an hour back in the Filmore days, so they usually had several headliners on any given night.
Frank Sinatra & Sammy Davis Jr.
Speaking of whom, there’s this little gem still kicking around.
Not to mention this classic….
same ole blues
oh i love that!
Rat Pack, now yer talkin’.
Perhaps I should have said I was a depraved child. After all I did come of age in the seventies.
and *Margot* sneaks in with an obscure, yet bad-ass version of a Byrds song I hadn’t heard before.
boo-rah!
Never tried frying fish. My college roommate (who did fish fries on the coast) brought big ole burlap bags of oysters when she came to visit.
We did huge oyster roasts in my yard and buried the shells. Someday the archaeologists are gonna wonder.
‘evening Suze & Pups! I left work early and battled the blizzard … driving wasn’t too bad, probably because all the SUVs were cowering in their garages.
Lots of great tunes tonight, i was lucky to make it to the end of the thread!
That’s one of the Byron Berline versions of Burrito Brothers! He’s the fiddler!
Went on to form Country Gazette, and the super band, California . . . .
I’ve still got a ton of Byrds vinyl around. Maybe when I get fat and can afford a A-D converter, I’ll get them on CD.
Roger McGuinn still kicking around. Heard him on a show a few months ago, doing a long, long version of “Eight Miles High,” full of flamenco riffs. :)
and how about this one from the Prince Valiant days?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KufRnYiBaVc
ok, so I don’t really feel like going to bed. I *know* I’ve posted this one before, but so it goes:
Boom Boom – Bruce Springsteen Berlin 95:

sorry for the repetition, but sometimes I just get in the mood.
Missed that . . .
hey ndfg — how ya doing?
What would you tune to? Open E? C6? E9?
I’ll see yer Clapton and raise you some Dire Straits – Sultans of Swing
Wow, how many people can a huge oyster feed? “g”
Been fun. Night ch’all.
Wow, I’ve never heard them do that song, not even Roger McGuinn at some of his 70′s solo show I saw!
Wow!
{{{{{ NDFG }}}}}
Been sending tons of healing vibes your way, over the past coupla weeks.
Ah, but jayt. If you’re going to do Six Days, Taj is far superior.
I”ll Raise Ya One Rob Thomas!
g’nite rat
Probably E or D. Not Lowell George’s open A, which will bow your neck or possibly put an eye out if you pop a string. Not really but it does put a lot of tension on yer g’tar.
Dunno, but these look like they could take a bite out of you….
Excellent !
{{{ Petro! }}} Thank you! my poor eyes can use all the healing vibes people are willing to send.
well, I’ll be damned.

Loved that band . . . Can’t Keep From Crying, Chery’s Going Home, the two you picked . . . *G*

thanks pups — been a while since we’ve hit 300
This is SPARTAAAAA ! *g*
G’nite Sir !
Where’s that outfit on the Coast near, Cannon Beach I think. The dude who has that famous chowder and this crazy not-chowder called “slumgullion”.
That stuff will totally blast the icicles off’n you.
Justin Haywood is the most underrated stars of the music world, IMO. Couldn’t believe his act when I saw them.
Weird, but true!
moe’s? chowder served in a bowl of bread?
Don’t think so. Picked it up pretty cheap second hand about 20 years ago. I was used to playing acoustic with medium gauge strings and never got comfortable with the lighter touch required, so stuck with acoustic. Would be good for slide, though. Just not comfortable picking it up. My brain has never quite realized my hands can’t form chords. I dream I’m playing sometimes. Lots better than I did in real life, too…
well, you make this a very friendly place.
Hah! That’s it. Moe’s!
Lucky to have seen them … he is amazing !
This music is almost tantric … which is about as high a praise as I can muster.
thank you. i just want everyone to feel comfy and welcome.
Yaay … we kept Jayt up another hour ! *g*
there is one an hour north in cannon beach and another one an hour 15 south of me in otter rock. haven’t been but there is only one name for chowder on the oregon coast — moe :)
thanks for the healing vibes, Pups!
Sigh.
*waves g’night”
g’nite ndfg — continuing to send ya warm positive healing thoughts (and admonitions of no more tears)
play it as a slide then.
bad example, but a pretty good song:
(look at Jeff Healy – does everything wrong, and it’s perfect)
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healey :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqU9RZqvFKY
I’ll send you an e-mail in a minute … reply when you’re up and about tomorrow.
I’ll be cursing you tomorrow at oh-dark-thirty. *g*
He could have easily gone solo, since he does EVERYTHING! I think he just likes being part of a team. But knockout talent!
wall hit.
thank you for helping end a very very very sad day on a good note.
g’nite folks.
LOL … I’d better make it worthwhile then – Thelonious Monk Quartet
In my very best Bogart, “We all try-you succeed.”
Spent a bloody fortune on bifocals last month. No way I should have passed without em.
Thanks Suz … and G’nite all !
I have to get up in a few hours to blow this darn Snow into a nice Pile for my Kids to jump into …
Sometimes I’ve wondered if Healey was right and everybody else is wrong. Might be a more natural way to play.
Two guys who left too soon.
G’nite Suz and evvabody.
Dinner for a family of four!
ok – time for me to take my leave as well.
Thanks, all – I had a blast.
And the one for the road that I promised – well, here ya go:
Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris – In My Hour of Darkness:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2LtJ7AKUrchttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2LtJ7AKUrc
good night to all, and thanks again.
g’nite Suz and thank you!
Sometimes I’ve wondered if Healey was right and everybody else is wrong.
Could be.
But it does tend to show that there’s more than one way to do it.
Nite, rf.
Petro, I don’t think you can play Monk and then just leave! Some LLN we’ll have to hit the Bird and Coltrane bottle.
Aw hell, Bird.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNJpes0XFGU
This is God’s music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjwVwASlVn4
Sending the healing wishes, ndfg. For sure.
One more for the post count…..
thanks suz, nite all…
g’night, SunnyN
Looks like we won’t break the record, but we gave it a good run.
Nite Sunny.
It’s been a long ‘ol time. Cheers all!
Well, getting kinda chilly… time to burrow in for a while.
G’night, all–it’s been… musical. :)
Rachel is on Jimmy Fallon (for any west coasters still awake.)
Good night all. That was fun!
Imagine what happens to people without insurance.
(Hate the idea that Americans need insurance…)
Goodnight Suzanne and bloggers. 15 below south of Denver bout 40 miles
27 degrees in Los Osos
In Oregon they talk about the Ducks who won the pack ten, beat the Beavers in the civil war. I had no idea though I am a U of O grad. Congratulations ducks. Nite all
