About Firedoglake
Elliott, thanks for all the hard work gathering up the dismal prospect. Have seen sufficient footage of McAyn huffing about being reminded what he’s against now, cuts to fraud in medicare, is what he supported in his campaign. Of course, the real fight is to make health care reform too expensive. Sinking the economy is good for republicans?!?
Uh-oh… That doesn’t bode well…!
I haven’t posted this here in way too long:
I hate this goddam fucking war.
I see that a a Japanese citizen has taken the helm…!
Bill Moyers did a great reflection Friday on the writers of the constitution having familiarity with war so they made it hard to commit, a fact recent presidents have ridden over roughshod.
I will have to watch George S. just to see Katrina vanden Heuvel, although I will have to miss some of WJ.
I’m kinda surprised Sen. Wellpoint [Evan Bayh] isn’t on Faux to explain his assholeish vote on the CLASS Act. Faux seems to be his hangout as of late.
Where’s Sen. Faucus this week? Tied up wih is trollop, no doubt.
To Edward above, Me too.
Chris Matthews wants a job
what’s a president to do?
and he’s having nightmares about party crashers, too
But now he settles in on footage of Eisenhower on economy suffering if he commits military stuff. then several other presidential declarations, ending with… Obama – on jobs.
The Warmongers are out in force this Sunday. I think I’ll sleep in.
Tweety, doesn’t see stimulus, need to appeal to private sector because the public isn’t seeing all the jobs. Where’s the shovels?
Borger wants him to take a bullhorn to worksites for the effect. needs to do a Clinton, feel your pain.
Heileman thinks he’s not populist working class enuff.
Duffy, he’s turning back to the economy and panel agrees, it’s jobs now for the effect.
Going to get dragged by Dems going into campaigns
Tweety keeps pushing for footage on site.on site bully pulpitting, we’re a big Detroit.
just the ticket, look like the worst president ever’s act.
Good morning, pups. It’d Dowd, Friedman, Kristof and Rich today. MoDo gives us “The Lady and the Tiger,” in which she sniffs that Tiger Woods and Desiree Rogers are perfectionist high-achievers brought low by the ubiquitous modern buzz saw of glossy celebrity wannabes. The Moustache of Wisdom, in “May It All Come True,” says in the end the United States’ strategy in Afghanistan is not about how many troops we send or deadlines we set. It is all about our Afghan partners. Mr. Kristof, in “Cancer From the Kitchen?”, says as long as we’re examining our medical system, the public health system should stop ignoring common chemicals linked to fatal diseases. Mr. Rich says “Obama’s Logic Is No Match for Afghanistan,” and that the trivial gate-crashing by a fame-seeking couple may be a more telling omen of what is to come than President Obama’s speech.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast with a bit of cinnamon today. I think I’ll make an extra special effort to avoid Press the Meat today because the idea of a round table of Bob Woodward and The Moustache of Wisdom boggles the mind. Have a great day.
Thanks, Marion, funny, Chris Matthews is on the same tack as Rich, wants more visuals with bullhorn. Love the pundits wanting more cowbell, less reflective stuff.
Good morning everyone. Thanks for the preview. Lots of Hillary and Gates. I so wish it was Rachel doing the interview, someone to ask the right questions.
I’m with Edward, I hate this fucking war.
Morning all. What no Liarman on faux this AM. When confronted by Mike Stark about appearing in Rachel Maddow’s show Liarman replied that he thought it was to slanted.
Currently 17 degrees which is the high for the day. Light snow.
THanks Elliott
The Moustache of Wisdom has staked out a can’t-lose position. He opposes the war, but he’s going to use his perch at the Times to help those who want to “win” it. (Because he doesn’t really oppose the war.)
He thinks that makes him sound like a Solon, rather than a horse’s ass.
I hate to stick up for Dumbya, but I thought the bullhorn act was one of the few things he did right. He rallied the country effectively after 9/11, but then he blew it.
One more nitpick: he wasn’t the worst president ever– that honor goes to the Senile Movie Star. Dumbya’s in second place on that one.
Anyway, thanks for watching Tweety so we don’t have to!
So glad to spare you, RF, and now that he doesn’t keep the wingnut reps around, Tweety is leaning more toward rationality tho he has a way to go before he arrives. But I stand by my scoring chimpie as the worst. Look at the economy, and the executive branch hires.
26 hrs from now, I’ll be heading for the airport. Destintion: New Orleans. I’ve wanted to go for years and I’m finally going to get there. That’s where my focus will be this morn. Lots of packing and preparing to do.
Good Morning all! MAD LOVE
from Kansas and hope y’all have a wonderfull day!
What the hell is up John Cornyn? the world will NEVER know. Why we cant we stop talking about Tim Donaguy? the world will NEVER know.
Why wont TMZ get off of Tiger’s sack? the world will NEVER know.
Maybe the world will realize that people Like Mitt “Mittens” Romney should NEVER EVER get “the last word” and finally elect some good senators and reps.
Have a good day pups’
holysonofacbl!
If he actually knew anything about problem solving he might get promoted to horse’s ass. Instead he remains as he has been; a fucking idiot.
Thanks for the heavy lifting this morning, Elliott.
Oh, and I’m with you RF. Worst President ever is St. Ronnie of the RayGun.
Wuzup college boy?
He drives me nuts. He can ruin 30 minutes of fairly rational inquiry/discussion with one final statement (like ending a discussion of Jim Bunning by saying he would always be for him because he was such a fine pitcher.) Or, he comes up with some ridiculous theme, usually based on something Humphrey Bogart,Tippi Hedrin, Joseph Cotten , or someone said in a movie, and won’t get off of it for a week, despite the fact that everyone tells him it’s wrong and irrelevant.
He ditched Monica Crowley, tho, for which I have some respect – for his judgment of her affect on viewers anyway.
Oh, I didn’t know. You’re right. He gets a lot of “attaboys” for that. I can put up with a lot of absurd interpretations for that.
Didn’t Monica Crowley co-host a show with Ron Reagon?
Via Wikipedia, she had a correspondence with raygun but worked for Nixon, wrote lots about him. Don’t see a show with the boob.
It was with Ronnie the son who has a show on the radio on the same station as Rachel Maddow. He is a definite dem.
Gotcha. That would be hard to watch. Monica peaked, on McLaughlin show, when she solemnly swore that Hillary was doing everything she could toward working up to a run against Pres. O. in 2012.
from wiki
That program never debuted.
some one had better sense than to crash and burn twice? nice to hear.
That’s where I saw her most. I could never quite put my finger on what made her so maddeningly repulsive to me. I really would have liked to have pulled her chair out from under her while she was smugly lying.
Willfully delusional, a characteristic the wingnuts all have in common. Can’t abide them, especially in the CSpan coverage of the Senate debate on health care – one side lies, the other tells the truth, given equal weight… a sad development.
She can also be seen on The McLaughlin Group, a detestable talking head show on PBS where everyone sits around hollering at each other.
The coward won’t take comments .
I used to ask how could he type with all that blood on his hands ?
morning dawgs!
sunday morning live blog panera bread beakfast;
couldn’t have my usual egg souflet because am back on my diet and doing real good, lost about 30 lbs so far, another 20 and I am at my fighting weight
if someone knows anyone who would stand there and let me kick there but let me know since I’m getting to fighting weight I might as well have a fight with someone, just don’t want them fighting back
k?
instead of sausage egg and cheese I had double egg and coffee
not yum
unbelievable gorgous day today, comfortable enough to go out in a sweat shirt, sun is bright and happy
nobody’s here at panera so we can talk as loud as we want and nobody will hear!
so someone dish some dirt
Yeah, that’s what I meant. That’s were I had seen her most. When she’s on, I get a warm, friendly feeling when the discussion turns to Pat Buchanon. That’s bad.
which reminds me, one of my new daily favs, the daily dish
excellant “palin in the news” blog, they do other stuff too but nicely done, have a look
Thanks perris, I really enjoyed reading about how starfish eat the carcus of a seal pup. Especially right after breakfast; blech!
well that was a lark for them, they have fun sometimes just like we do, usually interesting stuff there
ps
I want everyone to know obama STILL has NOT contacted me to find out what he’s doing wrong on the economy and how to fix, it would take me all of one half hour
i am PISSED
Good morning. It is absolutely gorgeous here. Just enough of a dusting of snow and just cold enough to make everything white, including snow on every branch of every tree. The cliffs are particularly beautiful in the brilliant sunshine.
Temperature here has now dropped from 17 earlier to 14 now. Still no sun since it hasn’t risen and it is snowing.
Good Morning!
Sounds beautiful, we only got dusted.
14 degrees is incompatible with life, imo :)
It’s 30 here. Does your temp mean that it’ll get colder here soon? Gonna look at the forecast.
I am continually amazed at Palin’s inablility to tell the truth. She’s the definition of a pathological liar. It doesn’t matter if it’s a trivial matter or something of importance, she opens her mouth and the lies flow out.
Nope. 35 high for the day, 25 low for tonight.
the leopard bebbeh was cute. Sullivan’s not one of my regular stops, altho he has formally broken with the right following Little Green Football’s lead.
why is anyone still paying him money for the baloney he types?
I think it was kay, had a great pic on her blog;
“palinochio”
excellant!
rather, I would think they formally broke from him when he wouldn’t get off the “really, trig is not her baby, I mean it”
here it is
palinochio
Tweety’s missing a screw, or two.
morning holysonofacbl
That’s exciting, have a wonderful trip!
Speaking of Palin, this is my fave.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_X1J4-BrIY
Got a chuckle, listening to CSpan yesterday late, a panel chosen for general public representation, trying to answer ‘who is some one in the republican party that you respect?’ A couple chose McAyn. But generally, they passed.
No, that was fhmike’s temp, it’s just below freezing here.
Thanks. Sooo looking forward to it.
Hmm, just saw Trudy Rubin of (My local paper) the Inky on Washington Journal. Sounds a bit like Dr Jennifer Melfi of the Sopranos (Melfi was a non-gangster, so that’s not a smear). Obviously doesn’t do TV much as she looked very stiff.
I appreciate the fact that she recently spent a lot of time in Afghanistan and is now advocating that the US give non-Taliban Afghans time and space to “stand up to the Taliban,” but that sounds an awful lot like she didn’t have any contact with the Taliban or with anyone who was even mildly sympathetic to their cause.
The guy who was the Speaker of the House, Tip O’Neill of Massachusetts, said that he was lecturing some students during the Vietnam War and bragged of all the briefings he had received from generals and admirals and other VIPs. Someone asked him “And how many briefings have you received from the other side?” O’Neill just sorta mumbled and stuttered and looked embarrassed and then resolved to get briefings from the DFHs of the day and soon changed his mind. I would have liked to have seen similar open-mindedness from the Inky’s reporter.
Oh, that makes more sense.
I’ve seen Trudy on TV before. That’s just her demeanor. I had to switch off because they made Obama’s strategy sound absolutely rational and thought out and workable (much more articulate than O was in his speech), and none of the callers challenged that POV. They were either “fer” it or “agin” it.
Am listening, and she had a really good description of a small pricetag program bringing water to Afghan towns in need, as an example of how we could actually ‘win’ this.
Do CBL and Oldnslow have a progressive son who visits the Lake? How cool is that!! My kids are pretty liberal but only my daughter (AFAIK) looks at blogs much, and not political ones.
Wow just looked at the NWS and see that we’re gonna get a big snowstorm moving in Tuesday in NW Indiana. Rain, freezing rain, snow, blowing snow, lake effect snow. AAARRGGHH. /weather report
I miss the days when the deadliest drone anyone needed to contend with was Cokie Roberts.
That’s a beginning. I have taken my son to dinner with blog friends, including Jason Rosenbaum, and he’s got high regard for what we do, though he doesn’t have the time to enter in very much.
You can’t win with those programs. All you can do is marginally improve Afghan lives, if you do the program right. Winning involves a political process, not a military one. The Pushtuns are underrepresented in the national govt, for example.
I thought that Karzai was a Pashtun.
Improving lives instead of destroying them, that’s a choice I see as winning strategy. True, it’s marginal, but the right direction anyway.
He is, but most of the rest of the govt is Northern Alliance. They won the war after all.
Is that why you want 200,000 Americans in Afghanistan, to marginally improve Afghan lives?
Excuse me, I don’t want 200K anywhere, but I like a program to bring some Afghan towns water.
How can the U.S. do that without and troops in the country?
The U.S. still has Peace Corps doing this kind of thing, just as an example. We have all sorts of NGO operations, everywhere, that don’t require troops. I built small houses in Chile last October with Habitat for Humanity. Do not understand why you think troops are part of development programs.
My daughter (both kids are in Indy) reads a blog called “Indymoms” which has a big readership and has political threads (variety of political perspectives) and a lot of local talk. My son travels on business and is online a lot but I suspect is just too busy.
G’mornin’ all !
David Gregory: Let my questions show just how fucking stupid I am !
Is the Peace Corp active in Afghanistan?
I don’t think anything. I’m just curious about what you think should be done in Afghanistan, not other countries in the world.
He is just longing for the old days when he could rant about someone shooting someone in the face and not paying him homage.
(((Petro!!)))
I’m going to use that.
BoxTurtle Cornyn, now climate change, cap and trade in particular, is a jobs killer. Man, they will latch onto anything to obstruct.
McCain’s main concern is premature withdrawal …
If Stephanopolous goes to Good Morning America, who do you guys think will take his place?
As I was relating, Trudy Rubin was talking specifically about a program bringing water facilities to small communities.
Peace Corps has trained workers who could do a lot of good;
‘One of the bank’s subsidiaries loaned the Karzai government $65 million to begin restoring its rural irrigation system. Success was marginal at best and was marred by corrupt and inept officials within the Interior Ministry.
In efforts to improve the country’s agriculture development, why not send in trained experts in horticulture and irrigation engineering from members of our civilian Peace Corps.’
http://themoderatevoice.com/45540/send-the-peace-corps-not-more-troops-to-afghanistan/
I was just about to say WTF is THIS shit, NO Lieberman OR McCain and then I saw his name, schwew…they should enact a law that states at least one of the two MUST be on a Sunday talking head show. Oh wait, it’s an UNwritten law you say? Nevermind.
If ABC could swing it, Dr. Krugman would be great – has experience and a real control over Geo. Will. Yes, a dream I’m having.
I don’t disagree. But the administration would argue that it’s not safe enough to send such types into Afghanistan. I don’t know whether they’re right or not.
Off to read.
Frick and Frack. Yes it’s an unwritten law.
Crosstimbers, What the hell was McCoy thinking on the next to last play?
He was literally one second from going from all-time great to all-time goat.
Elliott !
I loved the look on HRC’s face … Not to worry, David, the grown-ups are in charge now !
I can’t even watch these shows anymore…my wife thinks I’m crazy when I sit there and yell at the flat screen. I think I’ll head to the Italian Market and get some raviolis, gnocchi and some fresh Italian bread instead. Beautiful south Florida morning.
Marcy ! … in my perfect World.
Also, in my perfect World, Jane replaces JoeScar.
Okay, MTP has become an extended ad for Cialis … a bunch of old, white men talking about premature withdrawal …
Next week the guests are going to be interviewed sitting in tubs setting side by side.
*sigh*
and speaking of dreamers – Petro!
LOLOL
… where one of them will say, “With Health Care Reform, we will be forced to share one Tub”
Breaking News:
John McCain is angry.
Updates to follow on this shocking development.
-G
…and the water will be drained out.
Dood !
Wasn’t it great to watch Gregory give OldManJello a big, uninterrupted reacharound ?
*Faint*
With silk gloves and a warm smile.
Hello Petro!
-G
Shorter Gibbs, to George Steph: I can’t believe that you’re just as stupid as David Gregory.
Here in the Banana Belt of the Kootenays it is 15.8F or as we say in Canadian -9C. Cold, but not too terrible unless it gets windy as well, as it is in other locations, but not here, yet anyway.
I thought the Mousetache of Wisdom was amazingly on with his comments about the Civil War in Islam, particularly the comparison between Islamic protests over Danish cartoons compared to none over suicide bombers at prayer hour in the Mosque. I don’t often commend the moustache, either.
Even J McAnus seemed to have taken some Viagra for the brain this morning – but I agree with everyone above about the new John Gregory line – ie “Let my questions show just how fucking stupid I am !”
Also, please replace some talking heads (George the S and John G) with Marcy for one and Jane for the other (and have Christy on regularly ala George Will(fully) Stupid.
wOOt !!!
… another fellow Canuck !
I’ve noticed lotsa Canuckleheads here at the lake! There may be more firedogs per capita north of 48 than to the south where WAAAAAAY too many folks think Faux and Limpballs are the gospel!
I gotta go now, out here in the Left Coast time zone, we haven’t gotten to see Katrina on George Too Many Letters after S yet!
Would have been a lot safer if we hadn’t decided to fight a war with people who hadn’t actually attacked us. (Wouldn’t have been easy with the Taliban running things, but I suspect that if we’d sent Peace Corps a lot earlier, things wouldn’t have gotten so bad that the T could have taken over.)
