  • Good plan, that.
  • More like this, please.
  • Stop whining Dems — you control three branches of government.
  • Another newspaper going under because of its liberal slant.
  • Save money, get sued.
  • That part about “whites only” — also a mistake.

allow me an edit please;

•Save money, steal from your work force, get sued.

I think if they didn’t enjoy the corporate unbrella they could go to jail

Besides which, not all corps who steal from employees get sued, and those who do get sued probably come out ahead anyway.

As Obama opens jobs summit, he faces limited options for growth

So Obama is going to ask the people who are laying workers off to provide jobs? Yeah, that’s a winner. The deficit hawks are gonna drive us into another depression.

Jane’s command of the details on Voice for Choice is amazing.

Jane, if you read this, when you were listing the targets, you should give the url when the full list can be found.

It sounds like some rational people are going to be at the jobs summit. Stiglitz, Krugman. They should have had the President’s ear long ago, but better late than never.

I was in two national bookstore chains in the last two days and found it interesting that every book by a conservative public figure was on sale at 30% off and many POS displays to promote.

I pulled some books by liberals and asked the manager for 30% off. He said, “Sorry. No.”

Who is underwriting the big book sales for conservatives?

I don’t know that they’ll have the President’s ear today. I see their participation as more a bone to the non-neoliberal crowd. The majority of attendees will be business people. They’re not about to create jobs.

Those discounts are usually to get rid of inventory that’s not moving. I would take that to mean liberal books are selling better. Bulk sales appear to be the major source for wingnut books.

Bifurcated A: It’s better than no service at all if it represents the prelude to actually doing something. It’s worse than no service at all if it’s used as smoke screen for doing nothing.

And, let’s not forget the underemployed and those who have given up looking. I’m only working 10 – 15 hours a week and for a smidge above minimum wage. I look at the situation availables nearly every day. It’s damn creepy. Saw one ad where they wanted someone with top admin skills, accounting skills, pr skills and was offering $8.50 an hour. It’s very discouraging.

With an average of 6 people vying for every available job the bosses have got the workers over a barrel. Marx writes at length about the “reserve labour force” forcing workers to accept the best deal they can get for their labour time.

There have been stories like that in the papers for months. I don’t think Black Friday is going to be the indicator for the season they were hoping it would be. Everybody I talk to says they’re cutting waaaaaaaaaaay back this year. The manufacturers who decided being importers was a better deal will see the folly in their decision sooner rather than later.

It says something that the banner companies, AT&T, Quest, Comcast, FedEx, Google, etc. invited to Obamafest, do not manufacture a frigging thing and are more service companies that would employ either engineer or techie types, not larger number of production workers. Who says inside The Beltwayers couldn’t find their ass with a map and two hands.
