A short collection of Crazy Pete Hoekstra’s most egregious lies shows that his demagoging of the Fort Hood attack fits into his larger pattern–and ought to warn journalists about treating anything he says seriously.

Blackwater Bribed Iraqi Officials After Nissour Square Massacre |
| By: David Dayen Wednesday November 11, 2009 9:44 am |
According to the New York Times, executives at Blackwater tried to buy the silence of the Iraqi government by offering up to $1 million dollars in bribes after the Nissour Square massacre tarnished their image and threatened their expulsion from the country. Blackwater approved the cash payments in December 2007, the officials said, as [...]
Why the Democrats Can’t Pass A Bill Without a Public Option, By the Numbers |
| By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday November 11, 2009 9:40 am |
Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman are running around saying that they’ll kill any bill that has a public option. Quite predictably. And everyone in the media (and on the Hill) are kowtowing to them, saying that this means that it will have to go. Their calculus is that progressives in the House will want health [...]
GRITtv Live: Our Future – What Can We Do? |

How much control does the President really have, anyway? Americans voted for change and are getting frustrated with the lack of it, but our guests have both written about the powerful forces holding the status quo in place.
Carper’s No Good, Super Terrible, Completely Awful, New New New “Alternative” to the Public Option |
| By: Jon Walker Wednesday November 11, 2009 8:19 am |
What Carper did was take the two worst aspects of the two most worthless ideas (a trigger and zero government oversight), and combine them into one super-awful proposal. The entity created is not national, would not be large enough to negotiate low rates, would not be available on day one, and would not answer to Congress. Carper has created a “trigger for co-ops” proposal in an attempt to get 60 votes, but, not only would the idea do nothing to help control costs, but it needlessly weakens two worthless ideas Snowe already supports.
Vote Counting for Good Health Reform: Doing What Any Good Lobbyist Would Do |
| By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday November 11, 2009 7:23 am |
Vote counting isn’t some novel tactic — it’s what lobbyists do. They line up support early in the game, and then try to hold members of Congress to those commitments. We only did what any lobbyist would. In the third quarter last year, Planned Parenthood paid Baker, Donelson $30,000 for lobbying, and $15,000 to the Glover Park Group. Planned Parenthood Action Fund spent $20,813 on internal lobbying, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America spent $161,885.
Richards makes close to $400,000 a year. Planned Parenthood national has assets in excess of $126 million dollars. Anyone want to explain how they did not, by Richards’ own admission, see this coming?
Wherein Lies the Fort Hood Intel Failure? Connecting Nidal Hasan’s Dots |

Now perhaps Crazy Pete Hoekstra knows of something more, or perhaps he would advocate that everyone with known contacts with one extremist should have their IP address permanently tracked (in which case I assume he’s willing to undergo such scrutiny, given his ties to Manucher Ghorbanifar). But otherwise the data that didn’t get shared appears to be from the brick and mortar world, not the telecom world.
