Lou Dobbs has long been a rarity on the cable news scene: an angry old paranoid white guy who yells a lot and gets stuff wrong. Given the Harsh Discrimination the Liberal Media inflicts upon angry old paranoid white guys who yell a lot and get stuff wrong, it’s amazing that Dobbs even had a [...]

Where’s My Detachable Penis? |
| By: Marta Evry Wednesday November 11, 2009 7:30 pm |
Damn. Where’d I put my elective penis? Must be up the attic somewhere. Sigh. Looks like I’ll have to dust it off and strap it on if I want any kind of adequate healthcare under the bill just passed in the House and the bills up for consideration in the Senate.

[UPDATE: Within the hour, Rachel Maddow has spoken with an AP reporter who has a "senior administration official" saying that President Obama has rejected all four options for a change in Afghan War strategy presented to him by his national security team. The sticking point: Obama reportedly wants more planning for how and when control [...]
Sen. Feinstein Joins the Fiscal-Scold Seven to Make a Crazy Eight |
| By: Teddy Partridge Wednesday November 11, 2009 6:10 pm |
Sen. Dianne Feinstein has joined the Fiscal-Scold-Seven to put her foot down on Social Security and Medicare: she won’t vote to raise the debt ceiling (required within a month or Uncle Sam defaults) without a law establishing a “bipartisan commission” that’s sure to ruin Baby Boomer benefits just as the Democratic coalition cracks over choice and the Stupak Amendment.

CAP Report Calls for Postponement of Gitmo Closure |
| By: David Dayen Wednesday November 11, 2009 4:15 pm |
There is perhaps no organization in Washington with a closer relationship to the White House than the Center for American Progress. Its President and CEO, John Podesta, co-chaired President Obama’s transition team, and dozens of former staffers have taken positions in the executive branch. When they put out a report, you can at least guess [...]

nahant brings to our attention an extremely important and tragic statistic this Veteran’s Day. Via the Huffington Post: According to a study released by the Harvard Medical School, 2,266 veterans under the age of 65 died last year as a result of not having health insurance. Researchers emphasize that “that figure is more than 14 [...]
Why the Democrats Can’t Pass a Bill Without a Public Option, by the Numbers |
| By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday November 11, 2009 2:19 pm |
Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman are running around saying that they’ll kill any bill that has a public option. Quite predictably. And everyone in the media (and on the Hill) are kowtowing to them, saying that this means that it will have to go. Their calculus is that progressives in the House will want health care passed so badly that they’ll eventually cave and vote for a bill that doesn’t have one.
Now, maybe this is true. But as someone who counts votes like other people count sheep, I’m not getting it. Someone is going to have to explain the math.
Who Has Signed On to DeGette Letter to Block the Stupak Amendment? |
| By: David Dayen Wednesday November 11, 2009 12:55 pm |
Rep. Diana DeGette got a lot of publicity for generating a letter vowing to vote against any bill that returns to the House from conference committee with the Stupak amendment intact. She claims to have at least 41 names on that letter, more than enough to block the bill from going forward. But days after [...]
