Three stories over the last week that tell you just how Republicans are determined to just drag everything down the tubes…
1. Evidence mounts, via an investigation in the United Kingdom that the United States was determined to invade Iraq not long after 9/11/2001. Even being told there were no weapons of mass destruction and the war was illegal. Of course, the Bush Administration lied about their intent throughout.
2. While all that Iraq War planning was going on (remember Bob Graham’s recollections) the Bush Administration made the determination to divert resources from Afghanistan to Iraq in early 2002, including foregoing a push to capture bin Laden at Tora Bora.
And, of course, we know it has all gone so swimmingly.
3. In the present day, Richard Lugar, one of the handful of “purportedly non-crazy” Republicans says that the Senate’s health care debate — set to begin tomorrow — ought to be delayed until next year so the Senate can focus on the war in Afghanistan and the U.S. economy.
It’s almost as if their crazy plan perpetually comes together to keep everything else falling apart…and besides Obama bowed to an old Japanese dude and that’s what is really important.

About Firedoglake
It’ all part of the 30 year neo-con plan to “starve the beast” Cut taxes for the rich, drain the national treasure on illegal wars, deregulate business and soon we will once again be a feudal system the way god intended.
Just heard on CBS morning news that Limbaugh is the most popular conservative voice with the mentally unhinged Beck coming in second. I thought they were just entertainers for the fear/hate mongers. Looks as if I was wrong. People really are crazy enough to take these nuts seriously. We’re doomed.
C’mon, Attaturk. You know as well as I do that the Cheney misadministration never intended to kill or capture Osama been Forgotten. Alive, or at least not provably dead, been Forgotten was their cudgel to beat the fearful American sheeple into submission every time someone had the temerity to question their motives.
Unfit to govern.
“In your guts, they’ve proved they’re nuts”
The cynical resolve to deny the public what they set up for themselves, a viable government health plan, should be pretty obviously a total failure to do their jobs. We need to hammer this home whenever and wherever we can.
Morning all. Aren’t we missing the really important stuff here. There was this couple who crashed the State dinner at the WH and allegedly lied to a federal agent and Tiger woods who crashed a tree and refused to talk to anyone. Shouldn’t the senate be investigating all this.
Good morning, pups. It’s the Pasty Little Putz and Krugman today. In “A Generation in the Balance” the Pasty Little Putz says the lack of confidence in government has turned many older voters rightward. Younger voters have not followed. But even they will want results eventually. No shit, Sherlock? Really? Something tells me they’re smart enough to understand that the reason nothing gets done is The Party of No. Prof. Krugman, in “The Jobs Imperative,” says Washington’s assumption that the economic recovery will trickle down to workers is wrong and unacceptable. It’s time for an emergency jobs program. If I never hear the words “trickle down” again it will be too soon.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. Our neighbor across the street already has her house all lit up like a Christmas tree, with 2 large inflatable decorations on the lawn. I’m so not ready for that… Have a great day.
Corporate slime in corporate crime. Just like a dysfunctional King and his corporate colonial cohorts during America’s colonial time?
As Jefferson warned; “…a greater threat to liberty than standing armies…”
The American people experience the rape of “Lady liberty” everyday as constitutional rights are eviscerated by corporate aristocrats more concerned with profit than life itself! Just like slave owners………..
“”Corporate Servitude”" is an insidious version of slavery, the enemy from within!
thanks, Marion, and we are so ready for public works programs, part of Krugman’s priorities. Benefits go to everyone.
What a way to start Monday, Monday….I still can hardly look at that badly impaired former Pres…The only good news is that he has mostly disappeared. Morning, All.
Good morning all, just beautiful here this morning but going to rain… ah well. No Putz for me… can’t stand that little prick.
I do believe I read that Krugman was going to be invited to the WH to a “jobs conference”? I do I hope I read that correctly as it is about bloody time that Oh Bummah! and his pals start listening to “alternative” voices in the debate on our economic situation. Enough of the Clintonistas from Goldman Sachs filling their own pockets while giving the rest of us the shaft.
You’re not the only one. I used to subscribe to The Atlantic, but then they decided that I would want to read the prose stylings of The Pasty Little Putz and Megan McCurdle so I have declined their repeated offers to renew my subscription at reduced rates. At least with him all you really need is a pooper scooper, whereas with Bloody Billy Kristol you needed the full Hazmat suit…
In our town the roads are terrible, the bridges are collapsing, the sewer system is more a sieve than a system, public works people are being laid off (not, I note, the managers), the schools are suffering cut backs, the property taxes are going up and up putting more people in jeopardy of not being able to pay their mortgages, rents are going up to help cover the property taxes, the homeless numbers are increasing, domestic violence is on the rise, there is no help in sight for the un and underemployed and for many of them their COBRA is running out. What a fucking mess.
New Yorker, MoJo, The Progressive and The Nation are my subscriptions. I get the NYT on Sunday for the crossword (this week my favourite, Puns and Anagrams) but other than glancing at the MSM on line I find I cannot deal with the lousy writing and non-existent reporting.
Run, Huck, run (from responsibility, that is):
Pirates seem to have nabbed a 300,000 ton tanker 800 miles off of Somalia.
Not only did the benefits of WPA go into small salaries that were plowed into the local economy, the workers on the projects were housed, fed and taught living skills. All needed badly, now.
Good morning.
One of the perps in the Washington state cop shooting may have been someone granted clemency by Huchabee,
“…the lack of confidence in government has turned many older voters rightward. Younger voters have not followed.”
Maybe the undeniable fact that .75 cents of every dollar spent on potential energy called gasoline for generations and decades has been wasted, might enter into the “thinking” of a younger generation. The humongous fortunes extracted from America for the most basic of liberties, we enjoy has come back to bite USA in the ass. Now like drunks in denial we ignore truths and instead utilize blood and treasure to perpetuate and protect the very potential energy delivery system which enslaves all? Like Alcoholic?? “Thanks Executive OIL”
The younger generation does get it? They understand corporations in control of government is the same thing as the King of England and his colonial cohorts in crime. Why cannot America have a “War on Energy,” commensurate with America’s War effort to rid the world of Nazi? To many corporate cash cows utilizing law like the slavowners did, to perpetuate inefficient dysfunctional systems for profit at the expense of life, rights and the general welfare of the Republic!
It is indeed ironic the lack of press in US concerning a lot of pissed off Brits who know they where misled by the oil interest! America… brainwashed by men and women in little black boxes, after all!
Its time to amend the “bill of rights” as Jefferson and Madison desired, and give the American people and the republic the protection from “dysfunctional corporation,” and the “corporate aristocrats” which have been gutting America for myopic self interest and profit!
Instead of spending their profits on efforts to improve industry, oil co’s have bought advertising and congresscritters.
my local House member has gotten up in public to declare that if we don’t despoil Alaska for oil we’ll have to make wars on countries where oil is pumped without regard to environment. Rep. Ralph Hall, the senile old tool of oil.
Silence and cancer…………

Four words — Cheney energy task force
“may be wounded or dead” in a house surrounded by police, update.
Thanks for the update.
I’m gonna read a book and check in from time to time.
We are dealing with many of the same issues ,crumbling infrastructure laid off teachers etc etc.
And the Repukes only solution has been tax cuts , just what we need now !
attaturk, you broke my heart, here is a much better discussion by your’s truly
Damn ,we ought to Willy Horton the bastard !
Corporate America is addicted to the globalization of wage rates. That’s going to depress employment growth for a long time.
The Freepers are already going after Huckleberry like he’s a plate of chicken fried squirrel with slaw and fritters on the side. No room for his type under their Big Tent.
Let ‘em gnaw. Makes for a good show when they eat their own.
Swim is up…
unless of course we add the tariff that belongs there charging the comenserate differance against any company that has a payroll less then living wage
hey
this gives me an idea for my new diary, even for domestic production, instead of passing a living wage we should just tariff the differance
that would solve a number of questions, number one being the need for passing a living wage but also it would cut off most of the repercussions a tariff might cause
KEWL
Life, not myopic stupidly!
I heard from local sources that a huge DOD order for uniforms was placed in Feb 2001, about a month after W took office.
In desert cammo pattern.
The decision to invade Iraq occurred well before 9/11/2001.
a link to that would go very nicely on my diary, do you have that?
I know this is way into EPU land, but for a class I have been reading the Bhagavad Gita and yesterday got to Chapter 16 which this post immediately brought to mind. Just to give you a taste: Ch 16 verse 4 translated
Most of the descriptions of the “demonic” sound like a group portrait of the Cheney/Bush administration.
Nice to see that studying ancient literature is still so relevant.
The British investigation into the war will eventually lead to war crimes trials. There is no way out. It is exactly as those of us writing on this issue in late 2002 and early 2003 predicted. Blair has a lot to answer for, and it will be harder for him to get off the hook than the Bush cabal, who are protected by the United States unwillingness to permit its officials to be extradited.
I don’t think so. The solution is simple. American workers just have to learn how to live on Indonesian wages. (I got this from an economics seminar at the University of Chicago)
It’s time we amend the Constitution to read Corporations and the Government are guilty until proved innocent.
They are large organizations and can defend themselves unlike individuals there’s got to be some distinction to being a small fry.
That’s the way I figure it, too. Little fiefdoms for the armed and sociopathic viagra-dependent.
American girls and women better start learning the martial arts. Acting like cattle guarantees a trip to the slaughterhouse. Besides, martial arts are good for the waistline.
