Why do these right wing demagogues continue to beat the ACORN dead horse, yet say nothing about the Catholic church and their many pedophiles and the impact they had on the no-healthcare bill. Why no mention of The United Way’s CEO, who a few years ago made off with millions to provide himself with a lavish lifestyle. Isn’t The United Way a sort of community organization? Why no mention of organized religion’s Bakers, Swagggarts, Haggards, or the rest of the greedy bastards that take their congregations to the cleaners while making themselves millionaires in the process and building enormous churches to honor themselves?

The whole mantra about the poor getting loans being the basis for our financial meltdown is another fantasy the right wing beats up on dark folks with.

Am steaming, just heard ABC/Disney where the talking heads had on a skit on their late night news that threw in a line about buying stuff now, since next year you’ll be paying for ‘Obama’s health care plan’ – total misrepresentation. They’re ignoring real information altogether; the health care plan is giving us what the government has enjoyed for decades, great success. K. Ba’al E. has up ads about stopping the government takeover of the very healthcare she has and doesn’t offer to forego.

It’s not only the right wing demagogues, it’s also the Obama bots flogging the dead horses of Palin and Glenn Beck. It’s been revealed that the Democratic Party is using Palin as a way to raise money for their campaigns since there is so much disappointment about the performance of the Obama administration. They very much want everyone to feel that it’s an either or situation: either Obama or Palin-Beck-R. Limbaugh etc.

Acorn has voting drives in minority communities so if Beck accuses ACORN of vote fraud then he can say that Obama’s election and all future elections were stolen rather than say the Republican Party must change and work to get minority votes if they hope to win elections.
Glen with Lou Dobbs gone does kill the Hispanic vote for the GOP. Glen and FOX News don’t want to change.
Now yes Hispanic’s watch House so do African Americans but how many watch Fox News? Long term I don’t think Fox’s Strategy helps them win over those young consumers advertisers crave.
Sure Fox does very well in the ratings…now but in the future not likely.

Dubai I think might cause our banks to need another bailout. We might not have even loaned them money but I bet we loaned money to people who loaned them money. My guess is Helicopter Ben, Geithner, Summers they are all working 18 hour days because of this crisis.
Lots of bankers getting calls from the Fed did you loan Dubai money, did you loan money to someone who loaned Dubai money? How much cash do you really have in reserve?
Credit Default Swaps Dubai is late making payments how much do you lose? How much do banks you loaned to lose?
Glen Beck will have a field day. But then again so will we Helicopter Ben And Geithner will have a very hard time keeping their jobs.

Thanks to Dubai Obama now after not pushing for a Healthcare bill that does not take effect now. Will have a hard time with us and the Tea Baggers if he tries another bank bailout.
The banks which made loans to companies and accepted stock as collateral for those loans? Well the stock went down after the bank collapse remember Enron the more the stock went down the more stock as collateral the banks demanded that has not been happening this time.

Well, it is kind of an either/or situation, isn’t it? It’s a two party system. I’m not too happy with the center-right Democrats but about my only option is a protest vote for at third party.

There seem to be two listings both companies have lost about half their 5 year high value. We know Rupert bought the WallStreet Journal if he used his stock as collateral the banks should be asking him for more stock as collateral because the value of the collateral he gave has gone down.
If Dubai sparks another bank bailout can the banks afford to look the other way at Rupert for much longer?

I wonder if Lefty Writers can sue right wing publishers to get the same book deals the GOPers get? The book dealers will say corporations buy bulk copies thats why we can arrange so many free or low cost promotional deals.
I think that these bulk purchases though hurt real writers not only Lefties who would have gotten on the New York Times best seller list but they didn’t have bulk purchases working for them
Once an author gets on the New York Times best seller list sales go up even more. Therefore all the writers who would have made the list but for Sarah, Glen, Rush etc getting bulk purchases of their books lost money, lost potential earnings and all have standing to sue then right?

I’ve never actually seen an entire Beck show. I tried to watch once to see what all the hubbub was about but I couldn’t make it past 5 minutes. It didn’t make my head explode like Hannity’s does, it was just so incredibly stupid that I couldn’t watch. Just stupid.

Same here but I do read about it all the time in the blogs. I used to try watching just to see if people were pulling my leg…they weren’t.

Krugman’s touting the Tobin tax this morning. Will the administration pay any attention? Lemme see now. Land mine treaty? Nope. Kyoto treaty? Nope. Jobs initiatives? Nope. De-escalation of wars? Nope. As long as the administration holds on to the Gospel According to Milton Friedman we’re just gonna sink deeper into the financial abyss. We’ll prolly hear an announcement from Geithner and Bernanke today that they’re gonna bail out Dubai.

FORECAST for the day (A/K/A wild guess): This is the sort of day that last year would have produced a down 500 points situation. For the past 6 months, a deep opening gap down has brought buyers out of the woodwork. But its half a day, and I’m not sure if there will be time for that. My gut says that we end up closing down 100 or less on holiday volume (minus 40 would be ideal).

If that is wrong, and the US markets close down 2% or worse — lots of technical damage done to key trend and support lines — than Monday could be a blood bath. But that is the lower probability outcome IMO.

Tobin’s idea was a reformulation of a point that Keynes first made in his General Theory, in the chapters no one ever bothered to read after Hicks formalized the IS-LM relation. I’ve been pushing the same point as Paul to my classes for a couple of years now. Odd thing, when I mention the tax to my colleagues, they get all hot and bothered as if I were talking about world income redistribution. That was just a by-product of the more fundamental goal of raising the cost of short-term speculation and the carry trade.

One of the biggest problems in my trade is people who know some economics, but not enough, and that covers the majority of my professional colleagues.

I think it’s time for ACORN to change its name ala Blackwater, since the tea-baggers & co have made that name toxic. When the name “ACORN” disappears from the scene, hopefully they will declare victory and move on…
