EPUed frpm last thread I think another war is brewing in the Middle East. Dubai was the Middle East Financial Capital the dream of the Middle East the NeoCons and Bush wanted to make in Iraq. How many other oil countries have high numbers of foreign workers, invested in Dubai and might soon have a problem paying those workers? This could spread Kuwait, Saudi Arabia etc America’s oil rich allies could all fall, on the plus side Israel would be much safer.

Foreigners constitute 99% of the UAE’s labour force, of which Indians are a sizable majority

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indians_in_the_United_Arab_Emirates

If Dubai is not paying the banks how long before they don’t pay their workers? Does Blackwater take IOU’s I think not.
Southern Dragon @26 is right about a bailout. But it will be a Financial and Military Bailout/suppression of rebellion/workers protest over not getting paid.
Rahm and the GOP will say that Ossama is behind it all.

Mornin’, BT, pups

You just know that the brass at SS are beside themselves. Had these folks not bragged so much and posted pix on FB nobody’d ever known. But then their point was to be seen. Who knew that Obama had socialite groupies. Wonder what they’ll tell the judge if the SS decides to charge them for lying to the SS.

A strong showing can help solidify a retailer’s image as a shopping destination or merely a drive-by and is seen as crucial to building momentum to last through December.

Perception is even more important than facts with the stock market and right now I think retailing stocks are too high but everyone else is buying. The slightest bit of bad news could send retail stocks on a nose dive.

consumers have set a high bar for retailers this year. They became accustomed to massive discounts during last year’s holiday bloodbath, when many stores slashed prices by 70 percent or more as the economy crumbled. The Accenture survey found that 86 percent of shoppers won’t buy anything without a 20 percent discount, while about a quarter said they won’t bother with anything less than 50 percent off.

My bold I think deflation might be the worry now.

So, the Catholic Bishops issue a fatwah on end-of-life issues, followed a week later by an announcement from the Irish Archbishop that bishops in collusion with the police protected pedophiles for decades, just like in the US. Who’da thunk.

Who knew that Obama had socialite groupies.

Anyone who saw the airborne photos of Obama’s rally in Portland’s Saturday Market and realized that the entire crowd could not be seen from the airborne photo?

Wonder what they’ll tell the judge if the SS decides to charge them for lying to the SS.

People lie to a Cop to get backstage and party with Rock Stars er Obama no that never happens!
I’m sure Dean Broder and Cokie will say this Never Happened in the Bush Administration! And certainly Never once Bush’s poll numbers dropped to where Obama’s are now.
I’m thinking maybe Obama’s poll numbers might be higher than reported I mean Socialite, Rich, White, in the Washington area these are Broder and Cokie’s people literally yet they crash an Obama party because all the cool people are there? (ok my head is spinning on that one)

In terms of exposure to Dubai, JPMorgan Chase & Co. writes that the Royal Bank of Scotland Group underwrote more loans than any institution to Dubai World; In terms of capital at risk, HSBC Holdings has the most in the United Arab Emirates.

Look at the Percent number lost that should give us an idea which countries invested in Dubai or which governments allowed to much speculation meaning if the world banking system almost collapses again the big speculators will be the first to sell because they know just how unstable the system is.

Hang Seng Index 21,134.50 -1,075.91 (-4.84%)

is in the lead for percent losses as of 5 minutes ago I have no idea about that exchange.

Good morning, pups. Better late than never, I guess… Today it’s Bobo, Cohen and Krugman. Bobo is addressing “The Other Education.” He says while our scholastic education is formal and supervised, our emotional education, the one we glean on our own from artists and musicians, is more important to our long-term happiness. Mr. Cohen, in “Iranians in Exile,” says President Obama has been too weak on human rights abuses in Iran. He needs to express outrage. Prof. Krugman, in “Taxing the Speculators,” says while a financial transactions tax would not completely prevent any future crisis, it could generate substantial revenue while providing a useful check on reckless short-term speculation.

Here they are.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles to start the day off. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Mr. Marion in Savannah says that he may be ready to eat again by Sunday! Have a great day.

Bad design maybe but just how good are their building codes? Engineers build to code and normally a safety factor of 15% over is built in incase of mistakes.
Crappy materials, bad construction well was the building inspector paid off and the designer not watching his own building?
Wait foreign workers foreign construction companies cheating and substituting cheaper materials would explain it do a few jobs leave the country before the buildings fall down dissolve the construction company pay off the judge in your home country not to accept the case.
Thats my best guess.

Bobo on Springsteen:

Springsteen sings about teenage couples out on a desperate lark, workers struggling as the mills close down
, and drifters on the wrong side of the law. These stories don’t directly touch my life…,

Just how the heck did he get his “emotional eduction” from songs that didn’t touch his life.

His tales take place in a distinct universe, a distinct map of reality.

Yeah. They have a name for it. New Jersey. I’m from NJ and have heard alot of things said about it. But “a distinct universe” ??? Hmmm. Lemme think about that.

Great minds…me, too. I could not comment last night. On Wed. at work, we had done a “what are we thankful for.” Yes,this year I am so thankful for Angela. I had thought I would not have another pet..silly me. And, she owns me. I still ache from the death of my lovely Emily.

Let alone, as Rat posted, this weekend is 3rd year of loss of my mother. We were closely bound, we had her soo long. Finally I can see I also can survive….with a very big loss. I couldn’t go there last night.

Blessing to Jane. Thoughts for her loss. This really became my community shortly after Mother died. A quite place to be and in great company.

When I heard about the gate crashers I thought to myself that the Secret Service is just dialing it in. The funny or not funny thing is isn’t this the same Secret Service that was in a suit for discrimination and lost just a couple of years ago? I don’t know all this crap pools around in my mind but can’t shake the feeling that we are headed straight for a race war in this country. I think things could get worse than Rwanda here but then I’m always a bit paranoid. Problem is that if they aren’t racist they will be taking advantage of it to set up their little fiefdoms in the formers as it were. Then just line up the ‘others’ and shoot them and everybody’s happy. For a little while.
