Waltz Of The Flowers performed by the Mariinsky Ballet (originally known as the Imperial Russian Ballet) in October, 1993 at the Mariinsky Theater, St. Petersburg, Russia. From The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky.
What’s on your mind?
Hey Suz! Happy Thanksgiving!
hey kelly — happy thanksgiving — how is denver tonight?
Hey suz. You back home safe & sound?
All I wanted was a catfight for the holidays.
;>)
Happy Thanksgiving Suz!
So it’s fancy-dancin’ tonight…
Pretty stuff.
Mild, not wild! It was about 65 today, not a cloud. Go figure.
How was your drive? got left over loot from the din-din?
Happy happy, Suz! Now it feels a little more like the holidays, hearing the Nutcracker.
I’ll pass some time/comments before I comment on rehearsing with ballet dancers. Aaaiiiieee!
Oops!
Suzanne is experiencing a power loss and is scrambling to reboot her house.
I promise…
Just let us know if we need to send a sternly worded letter to Suzanne’s power grid, or her house. I’m sure we all have some already written.
Just read Jane’s story about Kobe. Very touching.
Owww. Helen Thomas at book salon sunday!!!
Yes it is, isn’t it? Read Jane’s wiki page and get even more context.
Jane is a lover and a fighter, and it’s very clear what she loves and fights for.
Justice.
Didn’t Helen tell Gibbs a couple of months ago that she wanted him to feel the shame of not working harder for real health care reform?
Happy T-Bird Day, Suz (couldn’t make it to sleep on the first try)(tryptophan is over-rated.)
Good day?
[waving at Sunny!]
See lurk @ 10. Suz is busy rebooting her house.
I have those same qualities. Sometimes they cause me to speak too quickly around here and to push too hard and even to lock horns with people that I often later feel bad about having locked horns with. I’m trying to work on remaining calmer.
back atcha kelly!
oops.
well, I’m quite accustomed to talking to myself. Talking to no one at all is a bit disconcerting, however.
Big-ass hard disk, I guess.
hey sunny – woohoo power is working again!!!
hey db — how’s canada tonight?
Somebody put up a tip jar so Suz can pay her ‘lectric bill.
I knew you wouldn’t be able to keep good on your threat to leave. *g*
The big deal is finding your voice, rather than the winning of small battles, isn’t it? At least that’s the way I’m thinking of it.
Lock horns with passion, regret with sincerity, move past it. That’s a rather human equation in my book.
hey newton — how is the bay area tonight?
*folks bear with me as i work my way down the thread*
It’s the dang trucks backing over the tubes again…
hey margot — thanks for enjoying the video. the nutcracker has always meant the start of the holiday season… that christmas is on its way
how’s ohio tonight?
Darker than your house, Suz.
;>)
No! You must instantly address all threadbearers!
put away the chocolates lurk — i’m baaaaack (thanks for the fingers and toes crossed for me)
hey ktown — how’s k-town tonight?
Fine. Sleepy, as predicted.
take your time
Patti Smith at the R & R Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary gig.

hey jayt — how’s indiana tonight?
hey ofg — how’s oklahoma tonight?
Hi Honies, I’m home.
Peach cobbler tonight. And if I am not careful, I will eat the entire thing.
No kidding.
Loo!
*whew*
did i miss anyone?
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight?
We still have Coburn and Inhofe–real crackernuts.
happt T-Day Pups!1
Ya mean after all that turkey + you can still type??? come on that triptosine or something like that must kicked in by now and made ya all comatose by now…
All good Ohioans are tucked in their beds.
I’m bad so I’m staying up.
I’m feeling a twinge of superiority tonight. Half the community was without power all day. But not us this time!
Makes you a bit cocky.
hey nahant — how was your feast?
As regards the Nutcracker. You know how you pronounce “waltz” in Russian?
“Ballw.” The plural is “ballwi.” I kid you not.
tryptophan cannot stop a true late-night pup.
It’s flip flops again. I just got home from Panama, (love Mexicana airline) took a quick bath, put on socks and slippers, but it was too hot!
hey openhope — so sorry to hear about your brother (((openhope)))
still stuffed… we did a 20 lber… with all the fixings… how about you Suz?
You saw that pathetic threat, did ya? Did everyone see it? I’m trying to find the right balance so that I can follow when I need to follow and contribute when I can contribute positively. I’ve been coming here for a little more than two months. Other than one bad experience last year, I really haven’t had any chance before to get to know or understand the blogging ocmmunity or the way blogs work. I think I have a much better idea of Firedoglake, how it’s organized, and what I can and should be doing here. Finding my voice here in part meant learning about the voices of others. I spent part of the day today focusing on different people’s FDL posts, one person at a time, to get a better sense of what each person has been thinking and saying about the issues he or she has been focusing on.
All good Ohioans are tucked in their beds.
I’m bad so I’m staying up.
We really oughta figure out a way to hang out.
Uh uh
wow — you jet setting retiree you :) sounds like a fun trip other than being too hot
Hi jayt!
I want turkey.
Suz! Glad you made it back. Everything worked out over there? Things here are good. Very quiet day at home with the family. No one here much likes turkey, so we had lasagna!
well, fer chrissakes, before we all start telling terrifying in-law stories – someone should jump on the jukebox.
Hey y’all. I was coughing so hard, i have a headache. I’m really tired of this. But good turkey, smoked on dah smokah! Oyster stuffing, yams, corn on the cob and collard greens.
I’m real good at carrying bags and finding primo spots on the beach….. *HINT*…
took two (2)! trips downstairs (out onto the deck and then down the deck stairs in the rain i might add) to where the breakers are and flipping each and every breaker.
it was only part of my unit that was without — naturally it was the part that included the circuit the cable modem is on. grrrrrr
hey that guy — you thinking you might wanna see a doc about that cough?
Kelly! Are you F or M? My lil sis’ name was Kelly.
Probably next week if it continues to persist.
The Nutcracker’s always been a part of our family holidays. From going to “The Ballet” as a little girl thrilled to be able to wear a special dressy dress and watch the magic.. To our daughter in her endearing little “thundering ballerinas” stage during ballet classes. Full stage performances with dancers from the “Real Dancers”, Pacific Northwest Ballet dancing lead parts. So cool!
Frustrating! I’m glad you were able to figure it out and get back up and running.
Bravo to you, to taking the time to learn the community in which you wish to contribute. By reading, lurking or just spending time, that really makes a difference.
I lurked for a year here before I ever posted a comment, back then as UnconventionalConventionist.
I think there’s a thing you don’t realize; you have very good blog-fu, and you got a front page post or 2 in your very beginnings here. That just doesn’t happen for every commenter, and seminal poster here. You got a wee bit frustrated after that initial exposure.
Keep your blog-fu up. You definitely add to the mix in my opinion.
i took ballet for 6 years and, unfortunately, discovered boys about the same time i was supposed to go into toe shoes.
i always wanted to dance clara but… the magic of the nutcracker is the magic of christmas.
M! Very much like your sister however, if she’s hetero.
[champagne is talking, ok?]
Did the pilgrims use oysters? I think not. *g*
Didn’t we all go yenta on you LAST WEEK? [yes, suzanne, I told you I'd use my inside voice, but....]
You waited a year before posting comments? Probably wiser than what I did! I just started shooting my mouth off.
I have been spending more time lurking in the last couple of days. It helped a lot to put things in perspective. Btw, I also spent time looking at Accountability Now PAC’s CooperUNCOVERED, which Jane suggested a couple of months ago. Good stuff.
Anyway, I’m growing into it and will be around until Jane finally forces me to go =D
That’s why a turkey says “eat me, pilgrim.”
Hi champagne! My sister died at age 17 when I was 23…I assume she was hetero!!
oysters & Pilgrims…
Hmmmmmm
Thank your lucky stars for boys! That toe shoe thing is pretty twisted when you think about it. I was not going to go along with that if my daughter had decided to continue with dance.
The Supreme definition of Cruel Shoes.
I was thinking that on the other hand, terrifying in-law T-Giving stories might be fun.
My uncle’s daughter showed up today with some cracker-m-fucker from Louisville, who would be lucky to have even half her IQ – and the dude couldn’t stop talking about how tired he was, that he was a painter, that he hated unions, and how he was just gonna have to suck it up and try to survive the Obama years.
And there were other, but edible, crackers, available today.
I make it a solemn rule to never talk politics at family gatherings. I have callouses on my tongue from biting it so often. Lone liberal in a family which drives me right to the fucking edge.
never lost my love for music and dance. now my fake knee makes dancing difficult and my bad back says no more shaking of this booty. but i do a mean chair wiggle and toe tap.
Just noticed it’s 2am here. Gotta get up early to provide taxi services for those in the house who wanna beat the crowds at the mall in the morning. Nite!
oy… ya can’t pick family. i’ve gotta buncha similiar minded folk in my extended family.
g’nite ktown — nice seeing your fonts again
car dancing is one of my best things….
Just got home, gotta work tomorrow.
Hugz. Thought I would say Hi.
THUD!!
boogalooing down the highway of life – i do it too :)
hey busted and g’thud dood.
Yep. I did shoot my mouth off at Americablog in 2006/7. I was the commenter known as “flatulence” from some dumb ass story about an airplane passenger getting hauled off a flight. Anyhoo, it was simple to be stoopid THERE.
I found FDL in 2007, and could not believe how smart and link rich the commenters were here. You should grok “Hughs List.” (just google it.)
In 2007 I was looking forward to the Dem Convention here in Denver, so I took a Rocky Horror Picture Show name; UnconventionalConventionist, and blogged a bunch about the upcoming travesty of civil liberties, at that blog and am still a blogmate at the unrulymob.
Now, I’m just me all out in the open. It’s all about the journey, and what you do matters.
{{Suz}} nite.
Interesting. Did you dress your turkey with oysters? Mix the oysters with the bread crumbs?
Funny, it’s the other way around at my family gatherings. I am the lone liberal, but they make it a point to NEVER talk politics in my presence. I take a flamethrower to them, while smiling as big as I can.
We are living in the ash heap of the Bush Economic Miracle.
Stuff like that for the lighter fare.
[Kelly, you type to slow, and you miss too many comments!]
Dayum, y’all!
I call that Chair Dancing. My fav now. I’m getting into the moves!
BTW, I’m so grateful to have librul,Socialist parents who were artist[mother] and writer/political science/history father.
Even in their old age we can hang out for hours without feeling claustrophobic!
welcome to life in the fast lane
Hah! I’ll just keep to snarky goodness then.
That boy spends too much time at church socials.
;>)
“Soul Man” – Sam Moore and (again) some other folks…

P.S. Night, Busted. Hopefully, this message will still be here after you’ve un-thudded.
on a good day i can still two-step and/or waltz but… most of my boogie woogie is in my desk chair. token thinks i’m nutz when the music gets me going
Interesting article. I didn’t know there were oysters in the Boston/Cape Cod area. Did you eat them growing up?
Token just thinks you’re nuts, hunny.
I only shot my mouth off for a little while last year at a blog that I don’t care to admit I ever went to. It was a very bad experience and I suppose turned me off to blogging generally for a long time. Suz probably remembers my lack of trust when I first came here. In retrospect, I can’t even believe that I knew so little about blogging before now. There’s a whole community here at FDL and a community of bloggers across the web that I knew nothing about. Bloggers do very important work. I only found Firedoglake when Rachel Maddow mentioned the site on TRMS at the beginning of Oct. Since then I’ve learned so much from everyone here.
Ok, I have to sleep. I’m really going this time. G’nite all!
Careful..you’ll burn it down to the waterline.
;>)
tbbb
The Vietnam years were a trial for several of us cousins who were teens at the time. I remember getting elbowed a lot by my mother when we’d go visit her family.
How did you get the dancing chair? Mine is welded rigid.
Seniority sucks.
oh noz… smoke on the water
senority rules. its got a great built in wiggle that helps me scoot all over the place.
So that’s who snitched.
;>)
hehehehehe everytime jane is on the teevee we get a buttload of new registrations.
OFG how’s your shoulder/arm?
Going to bed. It’s been a tough time here.
Check out Playing For Change. playingforchange.com. Peace Through Music.
One of life’s gifts. Just when I feel utter despair for our inhumanity here comes music to lift a human above the pain. One love.
Peace
Rachel’s made it BIG! Howard Dean substituted for her! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/34140503#34140503
g’nite openhope – peace be with you
Dancing With the Chairs?
“Izzat like a bonnng, mannnn…?”
;>)
Rank has it’s privilege. However, bitching incessantly helps, sometimes.
More better chairs for mods.
You have to try and keep loose when confined to the Moderator chair.
Not to say that there are not perks – spacious cup-holder, laser blaster, etc.
Hear hear!
I turned 18 in 1974 – so I missed the draft.
Mixed feelings about that one my whole life. Obviously pretty glad I didn’t get blown up – but as a male, I feel like I missed the chance to see whether I had the stuff to make it through. It’s a guy thing, I suppose.
And you will never hear me question the courage of the men here (Raven, Southern Dragon, et al, who came home from that thing.
Just feels like there’s a hole in my life, which I needed to fill. And now, I’ll never know. That haunts a man.
Evidently there’s some dessert option. Did I not hear of some cobbler upthread?
hehehehehe everytime jane is on the teevee we get a buttload of new registrations.
don’t suppose that there’s a screening process?
I’ll keep your brother in my thoughts.
two hits
The cobbler is on my lap, or was. The ModSeat 2000 Gold Edition has a dispenser that would work nicely for cobbler, but I am told that the five-point harness gets in the way.
my back hurts too much to hang – so g’night y’all, One song before I go, however (naturally):
Lucinda Williams:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Kd3Y-anRlM
nite.
I thought it was one of those late-night cable ads, for a moment.
;>)
g’nite jayt – fingers and toes crossed your back improves soon
Wicked, wicked, DB!
pretty lightweight by usual db standards… i’m just saying *wink*
Yeah, there weren’t any genitals or marshmellows and such.
Or missiles.
Sounds to me like you do battle daily.
There’s a reason you stayed, beyond there not being a draft at the time, I mean.
no stench of rove
Well, I have this reputation as a family entertainer to live up to, Kelly.
;>)
OK, so about ballet rehearsals. There is a Nutcracker Mafia!
There just is.
I had to play as a rehearsal pianist in piano school, and you just could NOT get a Nutcracker job. Nope, un uh. Those were held for the TRADITIONALISTS!
They had been doing it for YEARS!
So what you could do, to fulfill your rehearsal duty for ensembles, was be the practice pianist for ballet, and/or opera, and I did both to get my hours.
If I have to play Swan Lake, Pas de Quatre ever AGAIN, just shoot me. It’s up there in that league of the $500 tip tune.
I won’t ever play “Feelings” and that sort of thing again without $500 in the jar.
I got 10 minutes to still wish a happy thanksgiving to all.
Just got back from our celebration. Probably stay up for a few more moments but had to drop by.
oh geez kelly — i would have thought being rehersal pianist would be the way to go to get the nutcracker gig. i remember we always had the same pianist at our recitals. she (or he depending on the school i was attending) knew the dancers’ skills (and weaknesses) as well as the teachers did.
hey starbuck — how’s your neck of oregon tonight?
Rainy, wet and rather warm. How’s the beach?
You Always Had The Same Pianist At Your Recitals! See???
Did your troup ever do Giselle, or Swan, or other ballets?
I love the Nutcracker, especially the trans formative scene. Tchaikovsky’s music here never fails to bring up tears and such. So much beauty, hope and joy!
rainy wet and damp 50 outside. have gotten 18.32 inches of rain since october 1st
After a while, it all makes perfect sense.
;>)
oh geez it was so so long ago…. i did all that ballet but what i really remember are how tutu’s itched and my tap outfits. i also took tap dancing the first 2 years and my mom made each sequined costume sewing each sequin and bead on by hand.
i loved the bling even at an early age
Bling!
them boys
To click, or not to click…
OMG!
18+ inches.
And the season is only starting. Mt. Hood is laden with snow and for the first time in years, I see snow on the lower hills of the Cascades before thanksgiving. I have to go back to when Columbus was a midshipman to find that occasion!
u betcha. black and white cowgirl outfit with sequins and beading on the hat, wristlets (with fringe), shoe covers, and of course the skirt (with buckle). there there was the sailor suit entirely covered with red white and blue sequins and beads, with a beret and poppom instead of the cowboy hat but all the other color coordinated sequined accessories. and i loved the sound when i tap danced.
when my dad was transferred, there wasn’t tap dancing taught in the new town, just ballet. so i continued ballet until i hit puberty.
Hah! Belch will be amused. It will me remind him of my ice dancing days….
Don’t click on this one Loo Hoo…It’s scary.
;>)
The REAL Eddie Munster must be SOOO pissed at you!
Fred Gwynn, not so much.
Now look what you made me do.
;>)
That is THE FUNNIEST!!!
gotta stay away from downtown
Oh, it’s all in good fun until someone calls the lawyers.
;>)
Oh, gawd. Wonderful work. (Don’t know who the guy with the zappiest smile is though, next to Biden, above Rahm.)
or loses their luggage
That Mike McDonald gets around, ba-beh.
;>)
Grandpa Hil
;>)
Yikes! Jon Voight was SOO happy till he saw this.
Do NOT tell me that you also have “Midnight Express” biz up yer sleeve?
Gotta go now. Thanks to all of you!
g’nite kelly
I don’t know if there’s an apt analogy within that for the American political zeitgeist. Re-elect a Republican majority and we’ll see.
;>)
Hi Suzanne
We had total calm in Morro Bay this afternoon so I rowed 3 miles and went home and crashed til 10:30. Read Kobe’s memorial, Jane was totally in love, what a heartrending loss. Kobe liked Oregon coast..where?
The roar of the surf was really loud from 1.5 miles where are from the ocean. Maybe 12 footer this afternoon. It was a little balmy.
Happiest of Holidays to everyone
Wander in. Wander out.
I wonder where I wander…
G’nite all!
hey bb — so glad to hear you are rowing again. i’ve been missing your reports about the bay.
g’nite starbuck
As darkness set in I drove to the grocery store to get some food. A young couple with two very young babies in a stroller were panhandling at the entry way to the parking lot. He only works one day a month. They are sleeping on someones couch for a week. It is getting incredibly insane young families homeless panhandling for food.
that is so sad and so forking wrong bb.
’bout time for me to scoot. g’nite all and thanks for spending part of your thanksgiving here at the lake.
*poof*
Knee and back troubles ouch! I saw am old aquantance as I visited another at the local Senior care center. She was being guerneyed in and did not look at all well. The one I was visiting had just had brain surgery and was recovering. Lots of folks in the tank around the world. My 7 yoga classes really lifted my spiritual energy, wish I could afford them. Incredible lung capacity with the breathing techniques.
I wish Obama would wake up and do what needs to be done…hire Dr.Paul Krugman as Special financial advisor. Hi to your animals.
Nite.
Thanks db!
