The Blues Brothers Band – Rubber Biscuit live on New Years Eve, 1978, at Winterland in San Francisco, CA. TBBB were featured along with The New Riders of The Purple Sage and The Grateful Dead at this show, the final Winterland concert.

is this thing on? is there a pie party going on that no one told me about?
Just rolling in from Lisa’s very lively thread. FDLers are so good.
hey dearie — how’s so cen cal coast tonight?
Suz! This TBBB song always makes me laugh ;-)
hey LL — how’s virginia? you working or off turkey day?
And what a harmonic convergence at this concert — Jake, Elwood and the Dead…
We had winds….yet again…..and heat! I love summer, but at this time of year, I could do without the sneak attack heat.
the very last one at winterland. new riders of the purple sage too. i remember reading that the dead performed for 6 forking hours that nite.
no winds and got up to 60! clear skies and the moon is reflected in the bay as it heads towards moonset.
Our squad is off on Turkey Day — we had a huge meal at work today, turkey and ham and all the trimmings. Leftovers in the fridge when we go back on Friday. Spending Turkey Day at my bro’s house, should be fun :-)
i loved the pd on holidays. all the food. and we were given an hour to eat instead of the usual 30 (eventually 45).
Yer yer own Zed, Ted!!! lol
We usually don’t mind working the hols, what with all the food ;-)
hey larue — i was starting to wonder where everyone was…. look at my zed timestamp
how’s sac tonight?
I’ve got audio and video of that week of shows, from various sources.
Grand, grand stuff.
*G*
food and overtime holiday pay — always a winning combo :)
Exactly! *g* So what’s on your agenda for T-day, are you cooking or traveling?
sweet dood
Well, as you know, we fed fat and happy, the Chateau St. Michelle (WA) Reisling is kicking in along with the Chablis, and music and mayhem are on my mind.
If I don’t go to sleep soon . .
It’s allus a trade off!!! lol
Had NO idea Blues Brothers were part of Last Days Of Winerland!!!
heading over the coast range to jen and mikes. she is cooking turkey day dinner for the first time. her bro in law and sis in law and their teens will also be there.
jen promised to send me home with the leftovers.
i didn’t either (until i found this video). been doing food theme videos for the past week or so
ELWOOD!!!!
bow bow bow
Aw that should be a great day — hopefully Jen isn’t too stressed out about hosting her first Thanksgiving feast ;-) I predict it will all turn out grand…
Weren’t Jake and Elwood just the best? ;-)
I think my fave BB song is Flip, Flop and Fly. Lots of harmoneeca in that one too.
hey dosido — how’s your part of ca tonight?
just too cool for school
staci (her sis-in law) and i have promised to hold her hand. i expect to spend a lotta time with her on the phone tomorrow when she does all her prep work and will get up before the crack of noon so i can drive there and arrive in time to help her with the last minute stuff.
warmer today – up to 70!
yesterday it was cooold. and pg*e turned our power off for three hours just after dark in time for the dinner hour! big fun. So we lit leftover sparklers in the backyard. :)
jeez louise that is cold hearted of them. at least it was warmer but still… that’s when the cold starts creaping in and ya are wanting to turn the heat on.
The Blues Brothers covering Taj Mahal — She Caught The Katy
What are all those unwashed hippies doing at a show put on by such well-spoken Hasidic diamond merchants?
;>)
sweet.
home.
chicago.
I read somewhere that the BB started (sort of) because Dan Ackroyd bought some junky rundown bar that had a jukebox in it. He bought it for the accessible and cheap parking opportunities near the NBC studio. The gang would gather over there and play blues music on the box….
Hey, Suz
Hey Pups!
FWDiva
db! how’s canada tonight?
hey funny – how’s seattle tonight?
…and then one thing led to another…
‘K, I got Last Waltz a bit confused with the last month or so of Winterland’s closing.
But I still have some of the last daze of Winterland, none of the last NIGHT.
And plenty of Last Waltz.
Dimeadozen dot com has vid and audio from both . . . or used to.
The glory dayz, long gone, by ’78 other than the music and artists.
By that time, the SF hippie rock was largely gone and The Tubes, and the punkers and the heavy metal rockers were taking over the stadiums and the club and ballroom venues were closing fast.
In ’76 I was making the transition from SF Hippie Rock to Grisman Quintet Swing, Doc Watson and Merle Watson and other forms of grass and acoustic at Great American Music Hall, Concord Pavillion, Freight N Salvage, and shows still at Keystone Corner in SF, Berkely and Palo Alto.
These days, if I find a few folks to jam with in Sacto between fests I’m a lucky wanna be picker.
Sigh, thank god for internet streaming and some local live venues when I can afford one . . ;-)
Now I want to dig out my Blues Bros DVD ;-) Has been a long time since I watched it…never tire of it!
chilly and damp, but not much rain today.
FWDiva
way forking kewl. i hope that is a true story :) i’ve always had a soft spot for jake and elwood
and the cd’s. i think i still have blues brothers first movie soundtrack on cassette tape…..
no rain here. and best of all no wind to bring in the damp. sunshine even!!!
…then the killer bees took over…
…and sang King Bee…
ooooo another good one
True story, Dan Ackroyd’s wife is from around here (Alexandria, VA) and her dad used to own a long-gone place called Hillbilly Heaven.
on edit — Dan Aykroyd
Helping solve hot crimes tonight, S. Otherwise, cold.
;>)
and you’re gonna be cold for a while dood. brrrrrr
Damn but yer a silver tongued sailor devil you are . . *G* *wave*
Loved yer post a bit back of . . . of . . . erm, not the jazz one . . . oh well, it was good.
They are all good.
Folks, DB got le zhazz thang down like no one I ever seen, so if ya LIKE le zhazz of 40′s n 50′s and 60′s, show him some bloggy love and tell him so at his place.
He finds stuff I’ve never heard of, that’s always enthralling to . . . combo’s of folks I never knew played together.
More. He’s just far, far beyond this simpleton in his knowledge base for jazz.
And I ‘preciate that! *G*
/endidolworshipblogwhoring
Ya know, I’ve never heard any stories of BB origin, and yours is enthralling!
Man, that’s got to be some stories not told yet . . . ;-)
Kinda like the Homicide: Life On The Street Bar!!!! *G*
i totally agree — db’s sunday nite jazz videos are must see stuff.
Technically, it’s blog pimping, since it’s not yer blog.
Jes sayin’
FWDiva
hahahahahah
how goes besides the weather funny?
Well, it’s Canada…Garden spot of the Arctic.
;>)
…
Oh, Larue.
:)
Hey Larue! Here’s some Doc for ya…
Can’t believe Rolling Stones versions have all been lifted outta Youtube!!!
The versions of I’m A King Bee by Stones in early 60′s were awesome!!!
Damned lawyers, the bastids.
The wiki gives a pretty good account, I’m trying to remember where I heard or read about the bar originally…there’s an older book about the original SNL cast that’s pretty good too, maybe that’s where I read it. The cast loved the BB until they thought Aykroyd and Belushi were taking it just a little too seriously….but hey, the music was great and the band was tight. Paul Shaffer was asked to come with them, but he was “loyal” to SNL or something like that.
Wanna buy a watch?
*G*
no way! i watched a king bee by the stones just a few months ago
Makes me wanna cry, I’ve seen Doc and Merle do this more than a few times.
The two guitars and Merle’s slide work were insane.
A few times Doc and Merle and Michael T Coleman playin electric bass and harmony vocals just brought the vocals to life in a different way.
Thanks LL . . . IGBOBLAB . . . this goes back to my junior year in high school when I first heard it and a couple of git buddies played it.
Sigh.
Meh. No job prospects. But the friends and teh Kitteh are good.
FWDiva
fork and yay! my critters are curled up on opposite ends of the sofa snoozing away.
Per my just concluded youtube search, gone.
I’m SO saddened, wonder what ELSE is gone, too . . .
Wonder what’s up all of as sudden, is it RIAA or something in the recording industry we don’t know about?
mine’s next to me, snoring…
FWDiva
o/t and breaking:
Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead…
i think utubes come and go. when i linked to last year’s turkey cartoon that video had been removed. but i was able to find another one by searching and linked to that also. i always have to double check to make sure the video isn’t pulled between the time i draft my post and the time it publishes. tis a very unpleasant surprise
oh (pause) nevermind
token snores but bailey cat doesn’t.
well I found this recording…not a performance, but still…

goodnight, Roseanne Roseannadanna!
I would love to see Doc play live; every now and then in years past he would come to the DC area and play at places like the Birchmere, but I’ve never been lucky enough to catch him. He is a treasure.
“Jane, you ignorant . . . Dan you stupid . . .”
*G*
Whoever owns copyright…In the case of older Stones masters, ABKCO, but in video stuff Dick Clark (among others) owns the rights to a lot of period footage. WEA has been on a jihad over its content posted on Youtube the last few months also.
i thought it was emily latella..
you heading out or did that quote go over my head?
…candygram…
i literally fell off the sofa i was half snoozing on the first time i heard her called that. and remember how it was all anyone talked about for about a week after — and sure enough, it happened again!
heh — another fave SNL skit!
Wow, that vid was NOT there then . . . but that’s the song, off their first or second US album. Although, this version is a remix of what I have on vinyl and recall . . .
Thanks! *G*
That would be my point . . . they beat THIS one up bad AND took the lunch money!
*G*
Oh…you’re right.
Nevermind!
R R-adanna was Gilda Radner, wasn’t it?
FWDiva
Sorry ’bout that. Guess Iz jes a youngin’ after all!
we still say it when we see a real pompous jerk on the news which is most nights!
landshark
the coneheads
relax you two, they’re both Gilda.
She’s a floor wax AND a dessert topping!
i confuse both of those characters all the time — gilda played the both

cheeburger, cheeburger, cheeburger!
i like the basket fulla socks to toss at the tv. had to make adaptations when i started living upstairs — yelling jane or dan at the tv would probably cause me to start getting funny looks….

Suz, steel yourself…
I saw this at Williams-Sonoma today. Yes, it is magnificent.
the julia child skit
ZOMG — and its red (fanning face)
hey sunny — wow
stop the bleeding…
Oh! the story on that one is that Buck Henry (one of the cast’s fave guest hosts because he was always so calm) was actually nicked by the sword but was so professional he kept going on with the skit, live! Belushi was mortified when he found out he actually hurt BH.
Oh, man, what a beauty.
Could’ve used a better drool alert, though!
FWDiva
Time to say g’night — thank you Suz and all the pups, was fun travelling down memory lane with the Blues Brothers and everything else :-) Happy Thanksgiving!
save the liver!
You’ve got to post that one on Thursday!!!
Happy thanksgiving back atcha!!
g’nite ll — have a happy happy turkey day
i posted it a while back with a video of julia making an omelette. was when that julia julia movie was out. (edit) i think i posted it….
i have a great video all lined up for our post turkey thursday nite viewing.
Night, LL
my daughter and I watched the original Julia Child shows on PBS a few months ago (after Julie & julia came out). the one on different types of chicken was hysterical because it was so dated and because you could tell it was the precise episode that would have inspired the skit.
Wha? we don’t get Alice’s Restaurant?
oh, see how I set you up for a nice teaser?
lips sealed
i loved to watch the old shows. the kitchens of the 70′s totally crack me up.
Will someone tell dana fucking parino who was the president on 9-11. The stupid bitch is under the impression that the United States was NOT attacked while bush was in office. The even sadder thing is she made this ridiculous statement and NO one had the balls to correct her.
hey tbsa — no shit! i could not believe it when i saw she had said that. she thought she got raked over the coals for that bay of pigs fiasco….
gawd, and she totally rambled about food safety and calling your congressman and the whole thing. here’s a bit of it but ya have to watch the whole thing some time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ohiUbQyDhk
towards the end of the prep for rotisserie, she is sewing the chicken with a needle the size of a knitting needle and very close to the skin between her thumb and forefinger!
*wink wink*
thanks
Jane, you…! Dan, you…! Dana, you…!
that’s the king bee video :(
when did she say that? recently? I saw that Obama included her in something important, so important that I promptly forgot what it was…
I almost had to throw my laptop. I am thinking I will ignore her from now on. Obama gave this idiot a job. WTF?
bipartisanship uber alles, baybee!
FWDiva
whoops, fixed it. but it’s the boring part of her explaining the different birds. the fun part is somewhere else.
It was on POX news which I didn’t see originally. I watched some of it on my laptop until I realized I was going to damage my laptop. At that point I promptly stopped watching.
here’s a link with video
Obama’s delusions are quite different from W’s delusions. I’m still sorting it out myself.
thanks
thanks, I’ll have to watch it tomorrow, gotta be able to sleep! :)
see yall tomorrow perhaps!
Thanks Suz. I didn’t want to go back there….
g’nite dosido
i didn’t watch the video and just read their bit of the transcript
Dang them pictures! Wow.
I have always wondered what might have happened if Brian Jones wasn’t strung out on junk and died.
How would that have changed the Stones and the music?
Would any of the later key board players or git pickers have come in to play.
Brian Jones, I just read, had FOUR FUCKING OUT OF WEDLOCK (3 anyway) between 17 and 19!
Wiki
And it was HE that formed the band.
Go figger, it’s Wiki and it’s history as much as the loss of JFK or many others.
As in, we’ll never know the truth, not that Brian Jones was any equivalent to RFK or any of our heroes.
I was lucky, I saw Doc And Merle, and Doc N Merle with Michael Coleman, and Doc yet again decades later with Jack Lawrence.
But I saw Doc N Merle at least 5 or more times in The Bay Area, from ’71 thru ‘ 76.
i wonder the what might have been with so many… janis, jimi, belushi…. all that promise gone
Bless ya if yer still up and in here, that would ‘splain it.
Wow, yer a fountain of insider info WRT da arts . . . sure appreciate it!
“Knock knock.”
who’s dere? *humming theme to jaws*
Yeah, I don’t DO ThanksGiving without SOME form of Arlo, the church, the feast, the garbage, Officer Obie, the 27 8 x 5 glossy photos with a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what happened in great detail, the Group W bench, the pencils, the sargeant, the judge and the seeing eye dog.
Now, if one, just ONE of us sings it, it will be . . . .
Uh, wait a minute, till it comes around again, here, and we can all sing along.
Ready?
*G*
Like This?
*/smirk*
whatcha in for kid?
still waitin’ for it to come ’round on the guitar…
No, the sadder fuckin fact is Barack O Fuckin Obama HIRED her putrid Pu . . . er, ass.
*smirkingrage*
you can get anything you want
at alice’s restaurant (exceptin alice)
‘xactly dood
Yeah . . . some I miss more than others . . .
Janis had lost it for me when she left Big Brother . . . her pop forty after that success did NOT really move me.
Ball N Chain, Blind Man, and many of the songs she made popular Left Coast with Big Brother lost their way to Mercedes Benz and pop shit.
Her soulfulness was watered down.
JMHO.
“GirlScouts.”
*G*
“But I picked up the garbage. And I had to pay a fine!”
And they all moved back and we started to . . . .
or something like that . . LOL
as with all of them — we will never know what might have been…
oh such memories. kpig would play alice something like every 3 hours on turkey day. i would listen to it over and over throughout the day and always laughed and smiled. that and alvin and the chipmonks always are the start of my holiday season.
You Awsks, Youse Gotz.
thanks, mon.
Gnight, pups. Thanks for the company!
FWDiva
g’nite funny
Alvin N Chipmunks, and SOOOO many Stan Freidberg cuts, along with old Firesign Theatre stuff, all still make me laugh and cry at it all.
We laugh, we cry, we do it all over again.
That’s our lot in life, LaLaynya , , ;-)
FWD is kewl . . *G*
hula hoops are among the musical memories of so many holidays past. i would load up the girls (and as many of their friends i had seatbelts for) and we would stick the alvin christmas cassette into the car player and drive around checking all the various holiday displays in our favorite ‘must see neighborhoods’. i would scope out who had the best displays while working patrol and on my night off we would hit the streets, alvin theodore and simon blaring.
Well Suz, it’s just us, and I think I’ll ramble.
Afore I go, think of finding some shelled pumpkin seeds, and roasting them to a nice tan.
Toss them in some EVOO, and sea salt and fresh ground pepper first.
Lay some tinfoil on yer roasting pan to save cleaning, and set the oven to 425F.
At 3 minutes, best check them, and pull them as they will continue to cook out.
Good stuff for stuffing, pesto’s, breads home baked, and more!
TASTY!
Niters sistah . . . let us all know how yer havin fun over the next few daze!
*G*
Didn’t intend to hit and run. Power has gone hinky, so I’ll say g’night.
thanks i will larue — sounds like a great midnight snack :) g’nite dood
IGBABLAB!!!! *G*
Gotta go . . ;-)
g’nite sunny — hope your power unhinks so as to not fork up your thanksgiving
’bout time for me to head out myself.
g’nite all and thanks for all the trips down memory lane tonight.
*poof*
