The only think I can recommend to try is mashed sweet potatoes with chopped chipotle chilis (the kind from a tin). It’s got a tasty kick…

I never dine out on turkey day. However the last time I did it was in ’01 atop the Hancock building in Chicago.. All the planes in the sky seemed to be at eye level. Even in a tuxedo with champaign jazz and a great dinner.. the evening had an air of defiance.

Guess that’s what someone meant when they said the best revenge is living well.

Make a green mix.

All yer fav herbs, fresh.
Extra parsley.
Shallots.
Garlic, lots of garlic.
Light amount of EVOO.
Orange zest for one flavor.
Ginger for another.

Food process.

Smear under skin, inside bird of choice.
Rub EVOO over bird.
Season with compatible dry seasonings.

Sausage, green apple, fresh cranberry, roasted walnut, mushroom stuffing with all the basic herbs n stuff.
Use artesian bread, a hearty pumpernickel if ya can find it.

Roasted garlic, celery puree, Yukon Gold taters mashed with fresh rosemary.

Triple sec and orange juice and zest freshcranberry sauce.

Basics . . .

Love a good oyster stuffing, too, as put forth above . . . next year, maybe for XMAS! *G*

Being a hick from the state of Delaware, I first saw an artichoke in France, and Bsprouts from the train window on the way to Paris from Luxembourg. Agreed, both looked like something from another planet. And wonderful!

I was acquiring Cam about the time I was listening to Cook – which was some time (yrs) ago. Fun to dip back into some of those grooves.

I spent the weekend with a favorite artist friend.. traipsing through the countryside shooting photos and manipulating them through all hours of the night.

Don’t even get me started on the infinite colors in a ripe persimmon. LOL

I learned about him from a neighboring record store/label to my old shop in the Haight. They are down in So Cal now. Ubiquity Records was Cams label early on.

I’ve only listened to it all the through once, not paying real close attention. overall impression: nice, low-key, a bit of a departure for her in that it’s not countrified at all (a more urban sound).

It’s kinda like the carrots in carrot cake or the bananas in banana bread. Makes a sweet, moist steamed pudding. Walnuts, raisins and spices. And a really stiff buttercream hard sauce…lemon in my family.

Cooks Illustrated says granny smiths for texture and tartness plus mcintosh for flavor and melting quality. Not expecting local macs, need to figure out a good sub. Lots of unfamiliar (to me) varieties available.

Or you could just go for it with your grannies. If they’re good eating, they’re probably OK.

I wouldn’t think one would bake Ar Blacks as long as a Granny Smith.
