And, while some folks are going all anti-TurkeyDay this year, I’m looking forward to cookin’ up the whole spread with my daughter at her house and hanging out with my people. My grandbaby twins are 14 months now, and their older brother is 36…..and bringing his fiancee to the gathering. We are a true American Family!
jen the bride is cooking thanksgiving for the first time for her, mike, her sister and bro in law and their teens and me. should be a hoot. i went to her sisterinlaw’s last turkey day. i was stuffed when i drove home and brought home goodies. jen said she’s sending me home with multiple containers of leftovers.
Wish I could stay longer but I have to go to bed. Ron and I are driving to Redding about a job tomorrow. It looks promising. See you all later. Wish us luck!
Not so much…..my daughter married an “older man” — about my own age. And he’s the best! He adores his new baby boys and worked hard to get them, and he’s also a wonderful father to his son who is a year older than my daughter. It works out fine. Everyone families-up. Not traditional, perhaps, but hey — this is America and we can adapt!

Who is paying for the permits?
Brad Friedman of TheBradBlog did a story about an LA Tea party where there were 30 police officers to keep the tea baggers from the DFHs. I wondered
would a city government give 30 cops for free for a say for example a movie studio? Or a reality TV show? That was a corp PR event not a grass roots event.
Speaking of Saint Ronnie of Ray Guns. There is a huge window company near my house that had a sign of bush hung with the caption reading “we support our president” until Obama was elected. Now they have a new sign with a photo of st. ronnie. I guess they only support repuke presidents. I reallllllly would love to “fix” that sign for them.
most permits that i know of involve costs and fees. each jurisdiction i think takes different views on what those fees and costs are. you would have to research each event’s paperwork at each city hall.
Teddy’s seems to have a very heavy hand in comment moderation on his posts, at least with regards to me, so I guess I won’t be wasting any more time on any of his hyper-obvious bullshit!
There is alot in Branson actually. It’s a country music town. There are several theaters and a few water parks. Lots of folks there every time I’ve been.
Here is why I ask. I’d like to explore this question and then use the results to create a story that could raise money for city governments and cost FreedomWorks/Fox News money. It could also bring up issues of the 1st amendment and peaceful assembly on an issue vs gathering mobs to riot for corporate gain.
My short term goal here is to find out how many government services the government hating FreedomWorks used for their rally and what was the total cost to tax payers.
Depending on the information my story to the local media changes.
If Fox and FreedomWork ARE NOT paying for this then I will ask:
1. Would the City like the money? (what cash strapped city would turn this down?)
2. Is the City consistent in not charging other corporations. (Hey Corporations! Pretend to be grass roots get free security!”)
3. If the city manager appreciates being rubes dupped into a corporate PR event by some Washington Fat Cats gussied up to look like a community grass roots event. In LA I think I can make the case that a media company like Dreamworks shooting a movie (creating content) would have to pay for the services just like any other for profit media company. Why is AmericanWorks/Fox different? Because they have “News” in their name? What if it was ABC News? Would they have to pay? Why? How would it be different? Would ABC do something like that?
4. Who should be contacted for collection? The lobbying group AmericaWorks who is clearly well funded and if they put up a fight then point to some precedent for other corporations that paid.
i filled an old sock with rice (sometimes use dried beans) and tie the open end shut — nuke for 1 minute. it works great against my low back when sitting.
If Fox and FreedomWork ARE paying for this then I will see if they are
1. Getting a bargain. Who cut them this bargain? Is it because they are Fox and the right wing loves Fox so much they don’t want their money?
2. Aware of who specifically is cutting the checks.
With the data on who is cutting the checks I will be able to then use it to go other cities and see if they got their check. If they didn’t I will encourage them to get an invoice out to AmericaWorks because other cities got money and they should too.
This step is playing on the desire for cities to get revenue from any source they can. Why wouldn’t they ask for this money? Because they think they won’t get it? The example of other cities that DID get money would show that they are suckers to not at least ask for their fair share. And if they don’t ask for it we can alert the local media that the city is ignoring a easy revenue source.
If I find that some cities got checks for security and it came from America Works or Fox News or some other third party AstroTurf cut out I will check to see if they took out insurance at these events. And I will find out if the insurance carriers know that this is a corporate event that might turn violent.
We stand on probably the busiest corner in my city every week protesting the war and pushing healthcare reform. We are required to have a permit because we stand on the sidewalk. So long as we do not impede traffic we aren’t required to have “security”. It has gotten interesting out there more than a few times. I live in a repuke town in California.
Thanks for the feedback, Suzanne. Though I must say that Jane and other top-line posters have said worse things about posts than I said about Teddy’s pointless post.
I was talking to my friend Lesly about this, she is worried that if I go poking around about permits, security and potential financial liability for violence, that the right will turn it against the left. I pointed out that the right has ALREADY done this and is proactive in going after the left. (Remember the people in Minneapolis being arrested before the convention for inciting to riot?)
But I needed to hear that from her because I want to know what we are afraid of so that I can address it in my messages and in the eventual story.
i agree with you spocko. if the information is available you have just as much right to it as any other person does. i don’t believe there is a declaration of one’s political party required in fioa’s
a lot has changed in the years since i’ve retired. my ‘expertise’ is rusty and based on old info. but i do remember that distinction being the rule.. at least in the sf bay area.
The goal of this action is to link, with a hard money trail, the corporations that are behind any future violence that breaks out at a tea party.
Does anyone have suggestions of which departments I should call to see who paid for security at an event? And then which department I should talk to who would like to get money from Fox/FreedomWorks for the event?
This is related to a recent case where a water drinking contest lawsuit cost Entercom Sacramento’s radio station KDND 16.6 million dollars. The fee will be paid by Entercom’s insurance company. Insurance companies don’t like being fooled and it if fraud to lie to them about the event (I looked this up and found that the top three event insurance companies in the US do not cover political protests, rallys or GUN shows. (Think about the tea baggers bringing guns to the corporate event.)
i am one of the moderators at fdl in addition to hosting late late nite. i wear many hats here. do you wish to file a complaint about the moderation on teddy’s thread? if so you can write to fdlmoderator@gmail.com
Here is the video from the BradBlog
One image caught my eye. As the Tea Party Express II rolled into the parking lot (with it’s Tea Party II full on paint job) there were 30 police keeping people back from the tea partiers.
How much money do you think it costs LA to send 30 people to Griffin Park?
Anyone know?
And, I thought Teddy’s writing was spot on. Maybe it’s just that I hit SP burnout at about the same time, but I always enjoy Teddy’s writing. Thanks, Teddy!
It’s the same, you can’t impede traffic so it makes sense with parking lots. We’ve had rally’s in parks around here with hundreds of people, we did need a permit but were not required to have security. I don’t know the reason because I wasn’t involved in securing those sites. As far as guns, we don’t have that to deal with since you can’t carry firearms in public unless you are law enforcement.
Probably several thousand. It would depend on if they had to call in extra people and if they had to pay overtime. Considering the dire straits city and county governments are in financially one dollar is too much.
Bingo, you have my national target, but I also thought about local targets.
I know that not every city has a city hall beat reporter on a newspaper, but that does sound like a fun tidbit item for them.
ITEM: Which media corporation and lobbying group got 30 free police for free last week just by calling it a “community event”.
Which “housewife with a laptop” signed the event permit as a front for a multi-million dollar press tour backed by the health insurance lobby and the banking industry?
local reporters are reporting all the cuts in services and staffing including city halls. it does raise the question about whether the taxpayers had to pay for services to outsiders coming into town to raise hell on someone else’s dime.
tbsa: I’m glad you see that too. I’m hoping by showing that this was NOT a grassroots event, but a corporate sponsored PR deal, that the city will demand the money they spent. I want them to know that they were duped.
This also has to do with positioning Fox as an arm of a political party and not a “press entity” who might be doing something to show that they are serving the public interest (which is how Fox will want to position this.)
doesn’t branson also market itself as an outdoor recreation area — iirc there is lake with lotsa vacation houses and boaters (trying to remember their tv ads)
I know someone I can ask some of the question you are asking. Probably won’t be any help to you because we don’t have big corporate dollars bringing in buses of crazies to cause a scene. I will ask nonetheless.
whether the taxpayers had to pay for services to outsiders coming into town to raise hell on someone else’s dime.
Exactly.
Now, say that I find out that they did pay. My goal then is to find out WHO paid and how much. Knowing how these things work I’m guessing either the PR people from FreedomWorks paid. OR they got some “housewife with a laptop” to be the front as the local organizer.
I say that because that is how the local radio people sold their faux town hall. They kept saying how this was grass roots at the same time as they promoted it on the radio show with hours of free air time.
They have a huge water park, and a smaller one. They also do tours on the lake in those duck cars that turn into boats. There are TONS of beautiful timeshares in the area as well.
Thank you!
I have a longer term goal with this stuff. Linking corporations to inciting violence so that they will have to pay a financial price. I am NOT looking to block PEACEFUL assembly. This is not focused on the Criminal side. When some Tea partier shoots someone (or bites off a finger) that person is liable. However, when it comes down to who gathered the mob then they person shot (or the people with property damaged) will be looking for the deep pockets for damages. And I want Glenn Beck and Fox to pay since they are the ones organizing, sponsoring and gathering these people for the purpose of boosting ratings.
I’m looking at the FINANCIAL underpinning of an AstroTurf event that the tax payers are paying for. However I know that the 1st Amendment will be what the right will scream about, “They don’t want us to Assemble!!!!” I can say, “Hey, I’m HAPPY that you are meeting. I LOVE peaceful assembly. But this is a corporate sponsored TV event and don’t you think that the Corporation should pay and not the Taxpayers?”
I can assure you that cities having to “pay” for security for tea bagger events will also be happy to know which corporate sponsors to recover their coveted tax dollars from.
This action would be all about enhancing government revenues without raising their taxes. That the fees for the security is like PAYGO. “Why should the tax paper absorb this when a multibillion dollar corp gets all the benefits, who do they think they are? Banks?”
I know that anything that I did that even touches the right to assemble will be turned around by the right. So I want to gather the data for the MONEY issue so that it can counter the assembly issue. It can also give me a chance to talk about citizens peaceful assembly vs. Corporate assembly. Incitement to riot was used against the left as a preemptive act in Minneapolis
One of these tea party people and right wing nuts is going to shoot and kill a politician or someone else for being a liberal democrat. It’s already happened but then the right tries to disengage from the person.
The recent Entercom case shows me that when a media corporation messes around with dangerous stuff that can go “pear shaped” they will pay even if they think they have covered their ass. I think that their lawyers and insurance company people might start demanding that people like Beck stop sponsoring these events because of the fear of liability
If I have copies of checks from Fox to cities and insurance companies then when Fox says, “We had no idea a tea party could get out for control!” I can show them the “presidential daily brief” with the title “Tea Baggers determined to Strike back in US” along with the money trail. Then in a court of law they injured parties will be able to point to evidence.
Their lawyers and insurance company people might start demanding that people like Beck stop sponsoring these events because of the fear of liability.
By the way, in case people think that by exposing this it will be used against us on the left for our protests, it already has. During my research on this issue I found out that KPFA got in trouble with “calls to action” because they were a public radio station and they had some rules in their charter. But the real reason was that they were afraid of liability.
The right seems to think that they have no problems because their tea partiers are “real Americans”. Who happen to love their guns and feel that the tree of liberty needs to be watered with the blood of tyrants. And who do they see as tyrants?
well its an hour and half drive to her place over the coast range and down into the portland metro area. and then i gotta drive home. holiday traffic is gonna be less than relaxing :(
You’re welcome! It’s always nice to hear compliments. Reader approval is what moves me to write. Of course, taste differs. And some people just can’t help themselves!
Hey Petro, do they call it defriend or unfriend in Canada? Because the Oxford calls it unfriend, which made me wonder if it was a Commonwealth thang. Most people in the USA call it defriend. I think.
i have allowed let the tummy settle time into the schedule :) of course it is all weather dependent. i don’t wanna drive over the coast range if it is snowing. i would have to cancel :( :( :(
Speaking of Beck… I watched Network last night, for the first time in almost 30 years. It’s pretty clear to me what Rupert’s gonna do to Glenn now that he’s lost all his advertisers. If you haven’t seen the movie lately, I recommend it. They could never re-make it today, though, as it wouldn’t seem prescient at all. Back then, none of the insanity had happened and it all seemed like a futuristic fantasy. Now it seems like a charming period piece: Cronkite, Chancellor, Howard Beale, heroes of teevee news every one!
chris mathews is a perfect example of that — he doesn’t listen preferring to talk over anyone else who is talking. that type of behavior has become the norm on most of the talking heads shows.
After talking to a Santa Clara law professor I determined that I am NOT going to go after Criminal incitement to riot.
We all saw how O’Reilly walked after the Tiller killings. I have determined that a number of people don’t really understand that the First Amendment is about what the government and congress can and can’t to do. And these people are often on the left. They say, “Well I don’t like what he has to say about I’ll defend to the death his right to say it.” I know that unless Bill was standing right next to the shooter and saying, “Shoot him” and it is video taped, some people on the LEFT will cut him slack. Why? I’ve talked to some first Amendment lawyers at the EFF. When ever I propose some action like this, they always put themselves on the side of the people with the extreme speech. It is almost reflective. So my response is to move away from the issue into stuff like “The Market” and get to the issue from another angle as well as educate people.
Corporate sponsored incitements to get out and hurt people are not protected speech. If you don’t want to make a direct casual link with the comments like “Who will rid us of this troublesome President?” then the least we can do is to make them financially liable, since that would hurt the shareholders. And maximizing the return to the shareholders is all that matters to corporations. They are sociopaths when it comes to issues of morality.
yeah, it’s irritating to watch. I turned on MTP today, listened to lunacy for :30 and turned it off. Matthews cares about pace more than content. as do most of the “talkers” today.
In my interviewing days, I wrote the background info out (so I would retain it better) and then wrote my first and only question. If you can’t have your questions flow from the subjects previous answer, then you don’t understand the subject or it’s not worth an interview. Or you’re in the wrong business.
Do you remember (well probably you’re too young) the book “Be Here Now”?
That book drove me craaazy. I think I have ADD, and this book is telling me to pay attention to every breath, and every sound and every feeling and every smell and every everything ALL at the same TIME…madness. Be here now my ass!
I will. I own a copy. I watch it every few years. If you liked that I would recommend two movies for you.
1) ‘A Face in the Crowd’ Andy Griffith is brilliant in this. This character is so much like Beck that Keith Olbermann calls Beck Lonesome Roads, just like the Andy Griffith character. Patrica Neal is wonderful in this too.
2) Meet John Doe. It really is a winter Christmas movie, it was one of Capra’s under appreciated films because the ending is problematic. But I watch it every year. It shows how the rich can manipulate the media and how vicious the rich can be if they don’t get what they want.Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper It is free to watch on the Internet Archive. http://www.archive.org/details/meet_john_doe
Yes and money talks. It’s about the only thing corporate America understands. They could not care less about people, but mess with their bottom line and they are going to have a problem. I agree that is the best angle to go from. Really there should be no question they would be liable, they are after all sponsors of these events.
I think Suzanne was saying earlier to check with Rachel Maddow about who is sponsoring what. Her show has done a ton of research. Could be a huge help.
I have a lot of respect for Ram Dass and teachers like him, but this “living life in slow motion” is not possible for anyone with a full day of responsibilities.
It’s kinda like telling the destitute that they should be satisfied with half a meal …
I have watched many a time when one of these bloviators will ask someon a question, the responder will get three words out of their mouth, and hem. It is insulting 0and 4they will start talking over them. It is insulting and infuriating.
Damn cat, anyway. Get off the keyboard, you have it all day while I am at work!
me too. I’ll record Charlie Rose if he has a good guest, but he’s turned softball for a while now. Moyers is still great. The late morning guy on MSNBC doesn’t pull his punches in the 3-4 clips I’ve seen.
my mom used to give me all kinda self help books. she was on a real kick for a long time and she would want to share. i’ve never been too big on those kinda things (except petro’s of course which i want to buy and read when he ever finds a publisher)
what’s funny is producers are feeding them questions through their earplugs, so they are listening to someone off-camera while supposedly listening to the subject. That’s why some hosts always cut off guests. They hear what they think is a good question and just blurt it out.
I didn’t learn much from Books or Gurus … the basis of their teachings is contrary to my own understanding and thus far. I’ve gained more insight from my darlings than all the books I’ve read.
like in that holly hunter movie i can’t think of the name of? albert brooks? i forget the lead male but he was an airhead and holly was the producer or something and would tell him what to say when there was breaking news. dayam, can’t think of it…. fork
Thanks, I know it will happen at the right time and that I will be on the NYT Bestsellers’ List. Sometimes, impatience crops up, just because I’ve been at it for a while now.
i’m hoping his semi retirement will give him freedom to go after some really tough issues — like the failure of the 4th estate to remain independent — and corporations. he’s done yeoman’s work so far – i would like to hope he will do more.
I remember those days, and I talk to people daily about their own impatience, which reminds me of the uselessness of being impatient, as soon as it rises up within me.
Love that movie, and really, anything Albert Brooks does. “Defending your Life” is one of my all-time favorite movies along with virtually any Capra movie.
Yes, the first one is completed. There are 3 books that are linked to each other … first one is all about self realization. Second one is about relationships – business and personal, environment, etc. The third one is about raising kids to be fully realized beings.
I might be able to help, if you wanted to send me a copy. At least I could get it in front of a publisher. Maybe you could get my e-mail from Suz? I don’t know how to hide the address.
When you get ready for the press to and media apperances please let me know I’d be happy to coach you. I’ve helped people for their apperances on tv and radio shows. Coaching a client for Fresh Air was a highlight. Saddly Terry didn’t do the actual interview.
Hi, Suzanne. Teddy sure did have a fine thread back there. Cool and clear on the central coast. Surfers still doing their thing.
zed?
oh well!
hey dearie — teddy had a grand thread indeed
hey spur — how’s the bay area tonight?
Hi and Bye lady Suz and LLN firepups. Have a 6:30 call in the morning, so I have to go night night.
Wellness upon you all!
hey kelly and g’nite kelly
Just testing to see if Teddy’s comment moderation got me banned from all FDL comments. Hope not, but you never know!
Night Kelly!

I thought Mr Stafford wrote a song about the Congress for a minute there.
hey swag — looks like it was just for that thread
hey tbsa — hehehehe this video totally cracked me up
chilly, but otherwise unremarkable. starting to feel like winter, though–almost time to dig out some shoes!
That is confusing.
hey there
It cracked me up too.
jen the bride is cooking thanksgiving for the first time for her, mike, her sister and bro in law and their teens and me. should be a hoot. i went to her sisterinlaw’s last turkey day. i was stuffed when i drove home and brought home goodies. jen said she’s sending me home with multiple containers of leftovers.
hey mary mcc — how’s sac tonight?
My friend from Mississippi is having a turduckin. A turkey stuffed with a duck stuff with a chicken. My gawd, in Louisiana we call that sausage.
hey teddy — lively thread ya had tonight.
needs bacon
Sac is good. A little cold and overcast but since it is dark and I am inside I don’t care.
i’ve always wanted to try that. (turduckin, not sausage)
deep fried bacon. saw that on the teevee machine last night. deep fried bacon from Hollywood, MS.
MaryMc, did you get rain this weekend?
Wish I could stay longer but I have to go to bed. Ron and I are driving to Redding about a job tomorrow. It looks promising. See you all later. Wish us luck!
Not so much…..my daughter married an “older man” — about my own age. And he’s the best! i saw a pic last year of a turkey that had been wrapped in bacon — looked mighty tasty.
Nope. No rain. Just clouds. Often the mountains will get the rain/snow.
fingers and toes crossed for ya mary — g’nite
Good luck!!
Hi!
Suz, how you doing? What a fun thread that was.
am trying to stay warm. got chilled earlier and taking a while to warm up my inside. how are you?
what’s the weather in your neck of the woods swag?
Hugs and much luck Mary!
Wait, are you the one who told me about putting 2# of bacon slices on the turey’s breast to baste it as it roasts…and to provide snacking, too?
FWDiva
Mmmmm. Bacon.
maybe… sounds yummy doesn’t it :) there was a lotta turkey/bacon talk last year
Hey Teddy, Hey Suzanne.
Teddy. I liked your comments in the Barbara Ehrenreich thread
And
I didn’t want to slow down the tread with, “Exactly!” and “ooh I like those phrase.” but I thought I’d tell you here.
hey spocko — wazzup?
And I too must turn in…My apologies for attempting to tempt Teddy back to the dark side, but he’s a man of iron and won’t be bent. This time.
‘nite
;>)
Hi Suz, Stafford must have been appearing at the Andy Williams Theater cuz I think that’s about the only thing in Branson, MO. A client of mine was Williams’ agent and invited my out there, but I never made it.
*laughing* until next time db – g’nite
Don’t leave us spocko…
hey emerson — the utube page (which is jim stafford’s channel by the way) lists it as the smother’s brothers show in branson. doesn’t say when or what theater.
how ya been dood?
hey ce — how are ya liking blogging for the library?
blogging for the liberry?

Must’ve missed the memo…

to keep you warm. Folded up sweater tied around your waist will do.
Speaking of Saint Ronnie of Ray Guns. There is a huge window company near my house that had a sign of bush hung with the caption reading “we support our president” until Obama was elected. Scared, but liking it very much. I’ve been looking at MsCE’s blog, and love it. I wish I could write as as well. Will send samples.
Hi, Suzanne!
Teddy’s seems to have a very heavy hand in comment moderation on his posts, at least with regards to me, so I guess I won’t be wasting any more time on any of his hyper-obvious bullshit!
Best to you!
There is alot in Branson actually. It’s a country music town. There are several theaters and a few water parks. Lots of folks there every time I’ve been.
i’m in layers and gonna dig out my back buddy and stick it into the micro and then tuck it under my layers. thanks for the reminder
Doing well thanks, very glad for the company here at the Lake. Starting to count things I’m thankful for.

By the way I have a model for this. Here is something I did in 2004 that netted San Francisco $100,000 from NBC based on something that IBM did. You will also see how I involved the media writing about the media. I was very proud of helping my city collect $100,000 in revenue.
(Graffiti ads tag NBC for possible city fines Stenciled phrases that promote TV show don’t wash off easily
Empty pop or juice bottles full of HOT tap water work good, too.
I keep my down “throw” here with the laptop.
That and my portable kitten heater…

swag — you came in very insulting and continued to insult the author. if i don’t like a post i don’t read it :)
disagree with the message but do not attack the messenger has always been the way things have been done at the lake. best to you also.
hey spurious
i filled an old sock with rice (sometimes use dried beans) and tie the open end shut — nuke for 1 minute. it works great against my low back when sitting.
i would think the paperwork on each permit would be FIOA’able. i could be wrong.
Marcy swears by the turkey draped in bacon.
That’s a good one, too. I like to use basmati rice because it smells good…

So long as we do not impede traffic we aren’t required to have “security”. It has gotten interesting out there more than a few times. I live in a repuke town in California.
Ha, I knew that was from someone around here…
Maybe someday I’ll try that with a roast chicken (not much of a turkey fan…)
FWDiva
evening, Suz
i’m not cooking this year — gonna have to try it on that roasting chicken i have in the freezer.
hey ppd – how’s the south south bay tonight?
but that isn’t a televised event that is hyped on cable news and talk radio to get attendance. sidewalks are different than a plaza or park somewhere.
whatcha drinking — ya beat me to it :)
very good, thanks — how’s everything in OR?
Thanks for the feedback, Suzanne. Though I must say that Jane and other top-line posters have said worse things about posts than I said about Teddy’s pointless post.
damp and cold. tis 41 outside brrrrr not raining — at the moment…
But I needed to hear that from her because I want to know what we are afraid of so that I can address it in my messages and in the eventual story.
it was how it was said swag. as i said disagree with the message but do not attack the messenger
hey teddy. great post!
That is true, although we were in Fahrenheit 9-11 and our group, Peace Fresno, was infiltrated secretly by law enforcement.
i agree with you spocko. if the information is available you have just as much right to it as any other person does. i don’t believe there is a declaration of one’s political party required in fioa’s
could be worse, Suz — like D.C. where they have hot and cold running politicians
a lot has changed in the years since i’ve retired. my ‘expertise’ is rusty and based on old info. but i do remember that distinction being the rule.. at least in the sf bay area.
great minds!
Wouldn’t mind a nice, NW pear hard cider…
FWDiva
*sliding it down the counter to ya…. frosty cold bottle*
swag, have you heard the term “rude”? I’ve been accused of it enough times to have tried to learn some restraint. You might think about that.
I am really puzzled now, Suzanne. Are you a comment moderator? Did you delete my comments?
dragging off to bed. nite all
Ahhhhh! Thanks, dear.
FWDiva
i would try a list of where the events were and calling those city halls. find out what ya need — forms etc — to get the event permit info.
and then i would contact rachel maddow — she has been doing a lot of the ‘who’s behind what’ coverage
g’nite spur
This is FDL, Dearie. Please define “rude” in this context.
Thanks!
i am one of the moderators at fdl in addition to hosting late late nite. i wear many hats here. do you wish to file a complaint about the moderation on teddy’s thread? if so you can write to fdlmoderator@gmail.com
rude is rude, dude. it’s not too complicated. nasty is as nasty does.
Good night.
Well stated, well understood, and well moderated.
depends on what lapd’s contact is with the officers. was it overtime or special duty. that can usually all be found out in the permit info.
Thanks for the info.
g’nite swag
my pleasure
Probably several thousand. It would depend on if they had to call in extra people and if they had to pay overtime. Considering the dire straits city and county governments are in financially one dollar is too much.
yup… most cities want the money up front before they issue permits. they want those extra dollars.
This also has to do with positioning Fox as an arm of a political party and not a “press entity” who might be doing something to show that they are serving the public interest (which is how Fox will want to position this.)
yeah, I’m more a KC or St. Louis type. Been there a few times cuz I knew people there.
doesn’t branson also market itself as an outdoor recreation area — iirc there is lake with lotsa vacation houses and boaters (trying to remember their tv ads)
I know someone I can ask some of the question you are asking. Probably won’t be any help to you because we don’t have big corporate dollars bringing in buses of crazies to cause a scene. I will ask nonetheless.
Really don’t know except what some sites say and how much my client liked it. Not a country music guy.
follow the paperwork trail. cities document everything
They have a huge water park, and a smaller one. They also do tours on the lake in those duck cars that turn into boats. There are TONS of beautiful timeshares in the area as well.
iirc its represented sorta as a lake tahoe kinda place (water, fun, shows, but without the gambling)
But this is a corporate sponsored TV event and don’t you think that the Corporation should pay and not the Taxpayers?”
and that corporation’s name should be known
*note to self* … first thing Monday, defriend/unfriend Sarah Palinsanity !
Hiya Suz & friends !
I can assure you that cities having to “pay” for security for tea bagger events will also be happy to know which corporate sponsors to recover their coveted tax dollars from.
Excellent work, Spocko ! Keep updating us, so we can help spread the word.
Incitement to riot was used against the left as a preemptive act in Minneapolis
hey petro — how ya doing tonight?
Can’t remember what city, but at the 2000 repuke convention thousands and thousands were arrested for just walking peacefully. It might have been NYC.
Fine, thanks … are you ready for Turkey Day ?
Thanks! I will.
Then in a court of law they injured parties will be able to point to evidence.
going to jen’s and she’s cooking. i get to eat and bring home leftovers :)
heya spocko, your contributions in that thread were great too.
God bless ya Spocko.
Hey Petro! Meant to tell you the other night, I could see people opening up to you like that.
Got onto other stuff.
Spectacular idea. You know we are headed in that direction. The crazies are using similar code words used by prolifers against abortion doctors.
hey busted — how ya doing dood?
Nice change, I bet … you enjoying the day at leisure.
Hozer in da-house!
Yeah, and that’s before I ply them with alcohol … *wink*
And who do they see as tyrants?
well its an hour and half drive to her place over the coast range and down into the portland metro area. and then i gotta drive home. holiday traffic is gonna be less than relaxing :(
but i am looking forward to the role reversal
Take off, eh ?!!
Half awake.
The cat woke me up nuzzling.
Bacon wrapped turkey?
Genius!
hey newton — how ya doing?
You’re welcome! It’s always nice to hear compliments. Reader approval is what moves me to write. Of course, taste differs. And some people just can’t help themselves!
subtle *g*
doesn’t that sound yummy!
What is it, like 3pm tomorrow where you live?
Thanks. I was afraid I was been too goofy, but some jokes I just couldn’t resist. “Did they put him in the spanking machine?”
You always rock Teddy.
You can drive after eating all that Turkey ?
I can barely navigate to the TV before collapsing into semi-consciousness … *g*
hiya suz
been playing in the diaries this evening
Hey Petro, do they call it defriend or unfriend in Canada? Because the Oxford calls it unfriend, which made me wonder if it was a Commonwealth thang. Most people in the USA call it defriend. I think.
i have allowed let the tummy settle time into the schedule :) of course it is all weather dependent. i don’t wanna drive over the coast range if it is snowing. i would have to cancel :( :( :(
LOL !!!
I enjoy it, sometimes a few kind words make such a big difference in someone’s life; usually though, it’s enough just to lend an Ear.
always a fun adventure — ya never know what’s gonna be diaried next
ROFL !!!
Listening is the lost art of this country. Glad you’re still practicing it up north.
Teddy !
It’s ‘defriend’ up here.
Petro!
chris mathews is a perfect example of that — he doesn’t listen preferring to talk over anyone else who is talking. that type of behavior has become the norm on most of the talking heads shows.
{{{{{ Margot }}}}}
Oh my Gawd,the cute.
The Mean Old Woman, Baby Girl, 15 year old cat, is laying on her back with her arms stretched out wanting her chest scratched.
So I am scratching her and trying to type and she rolls over and tries to type too! Blame any typo’s on her!
hahahahaha
It’s also prevalent with the motivational speakers … they want to tell you what you’re thinking and what you should think.
My method is straightforward … teach people to feel a deep state of relaxation and the right way for them becomes apparent.
Such a softie you are, Busted.
trust has to be built — not insisted upon
Exactly … as it should be.
which is why you are such a good listener.
I have my moments.
Smooch.
yeah, it’s irritating to watch.
Or you’re in the wrong business.
i can’t watch any of em. i watch local news ko and rachel.
Yep !
and, of course, nbc nightly news when jane is on.
I hear that Tweety drinks Red Bull to calm hisself down ! *g*
I heard that, too. When he’s clubbing.
I learned that from the brilliant movie “The Corporation”.
Ohhh look at the time! I’m off to bed.
Night folks!
Get off the keyboard, you have it all day while I am at work!
g’nite spocko
ya think she is trying to go for the warmth factor of the laptop or trying to kick it off your lap so she can get really warm?
me too. I’ll record Charlie Rose if he has a good guest, but he’s turned softball for a while now. Moyers is still great. The late morning guy on MSNBC doesn’t pull his punches in the 3-4 clips I’ve seen.
I think that Tweety struggles to maintain a breathless pace on his show, so that his viewers do not tune out.
jealous because I am not giving her my full attention.
sad to hear moyers is retiring. one of the few real journalists left.
hehehehe and as soon as ya turn all your attention to her she will ignore ya
I saw where Bill Moyers is giving up his TV show and semi retiring.
I admit I never got very far with that book.
He did have quite a few followers where I lived.
Plus there’s the attention factor. Which is why “having the keyboard to herself all day while you’re at work” is NOT the point!
FWDiva
my mom used to give me all kinda self help books. she was on a real kick for a long time and she would want to share. i’ve never been too big on those kinda things (except petro’s of course which i want to buy and read when he ever finds a publisher)
what’s funny is producers are feeding them questions through their earplugs, so they are listening to someone off-camera while supposedly listening to the subject. That’s why some hosts always cut off guests. They hear what they think is a good question and just blurt it out.
It’s already in my script. *s*
I didn’t learn much from Books or Gurus … the basis of their teachings is contrary to my own understanding and thus far. I’ve gained more insight from my darlings than all the books I’ve read.
And/ or bite me real good.
It’s time for me to go THUD again. G’nite y’all.
like in that holly hunter movie i can’t think of the name of? albert brooks? i forget the lead male but he was an airhead and holly was the producer or something and would tell him what to say when there was breaking news. dayam, can’t think of it…. fork
g’thud busted *smooches*
From your Lips … the process of finding an Agent is tedious and quite frustrating.
Your script?
i’m keeping a positive attitude. when the time is right you will find the agent — or the agent will find you.
Broadcast News ? William Hurt was also in the movie.
yes! that was a great movie…. william hurt played the airhead. thanks petro
{{{ Suz }}}
Thanks, I know it will happen at the right time and that I will be on the NYT Bestsellers’ List. Sometimes, impatience crops up, just because I’ve been at it for a while now.
William Hurt is one of my faves – Kiss of The Spider Woman & Children Of A Lesser God were incredible.
tell me about it — 18 months to sell the cottage by the creek. i got impatient — lots!
holly hunter fan since i first saw raising arizona.
It really is sad. He’s one of my idols since the 70′s and the last of his kind. Seymour Hersh is outstanding, but more under the radar.
I could see Moyers having a HUGE activist role, though.
I’m not a fan of self-help books as a rule but yes, I want Petro’s.
i’m hoping his semi retirement will give him freedom to go after some really tough issues — like the failure of the 4th estate to remain independent — and corporations. he’s done yeoman’s work so far – i would like to hope he will do more.
I remember those days, and I talk to people daily about their own impatience, which reminds me of the uselessness of being impatient, as soon as it rises up within me.
tis an honest human emotion and to be expected. just gotta be aware of it when it rears up
Love that movie, and really, anything Albert Brooks does. “Defending your Life” is one of my all-time favorite movies along with virtually any Capra movie.
We need a new Capra today as much as we did then.
about time for me to head off myself.
g’nite all and thanks for letting me hang out with ya.
What amazed me about Holly Hunter was, even with a small role in The Firm, she put so much into it and added so much to the Movie. Great Actress !
yeah, I have a couple going. You’ve got a book in you, spocko.
Frank Capra’s movies are among my favorite.
Now, I think Directors rely too much on editing to give their movies impact.
Nite Suz!
Petro, have you heard about the patron saint of editors and publishers?
g’nite, Suzanne.
So far, I’ve got 2 sales … need another 99,998 to get a fat contract like Caribou Barbie … *g*
Now she would be a scary client !
G’nite Suz !
Dood, you’re a writer ? Fiction or Non ?
Agree. People need to see what good people stand for…and against.
No, I hadn’t until now … do you know this blogger ?
I write fiction. Nothing published yet. Used to be a print , radio and TV reporter many years ago.
Petro, what’s your book about?
Excellent ! Good Luck with it, I hope you sell a Million copies … at least !
Motivational … using the tenets in yoga/meditation to become fully realized in all aspects of life.
Cool. It’s done and you need a publisher?
Yes, the first one is completed. There are 3 books that are linked to each other … first one is all about self realization. Second one is about relationships – business and personal, environment, etc. The third one is about raising kids to be fully realized beings.
3:26 a.m. in fair Toronto … G’nite all !
Nite Petro and spocko. big week ahead.
Broadcast News?
g’nite, all
