Once viewers hear that we are pulling all our troops out of Afghanistan well if Fox isn’t showing the speech viewers will leave after all Obama unlike Bush can take questions.

So it doesn’t mean a damn thing if Obama decides tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now or three months from now. Dither is another way of saying “winter in Afghanistan”.

We don’t have the forces to send out, we can’t mount any offensive operations, and anyone sent out would be hunkered down behind the wire just getting their a**es frozen off.

Now the Taliban might try and assassinate officials in the towns and cities, do a few suicide bombings and mount ambushes in snow and mud-clogged passes. But it’d be sheer suicide to send out copters to deal with that as they might get downed in a blizzard.

The Republicans who want to mount offensives in the harsh winters of Central Asia make me feel happy that these guys were chickenhawks rather than leading troops in the field. The problem is they somehow get these fools involved in making policy decisions. They sort of like the idiots who convinced Hitler to mount a Winter Offensive into Russia (or the French fops that convinced Napoleon to follow the Road To Moscow).

Thompson is using a GOP talking point to get a little attention before Palin absorbs it all. He’s a regular on the circuit out to dis-rail everything Obama (along w Grassley, Vitter, DeMint, Sessions, Boehner, McConnell, FoxN, etc).
Taking time to review Afghanistan is what a president should do. We should probably leave. But the way we’re leaving Iraq has been politically possible because it’s viewed as “responsible” to go in steps. Obama is behaving as an adult should, get wide viewpoints and in the end as commander-in-chief, he’ll make his decision.

The last time I quit smoking (13 years ago, Yay!) I used Nicorette gum. It was horrible, hard as hell, burned my mouth but I chewed so much of it for two days that I got a goose-egg on each jaw. Went cold turkey the rest of the way. I struck me that if smoking was half as unpleasant as that gum nobody would do it.
