Featuring new videos from Langhorne Slim and Cory Chisel.
What’s on your mind tonight?
zed..
nahant!
stupid newt fingers here – took me 3 tries to get the video to start playing
hey eureka
how ya doing ES?
Take me back to the wild.
I don’t know why but the bass in that song reminds me of the bass on Van Morrison’s Veeden Fleece album.
CHILI…
..stupid…CHILI… fingers?
Evening newtonusr..)
Fine and dandy, nahant.
Friend of mine just emailed me. She recently published her own book. Bill Clinton got ahold of it tonight.. and read a chapter out loud to Mary Steenbergen and a bunch of other folks.
Of course my friend is just tickled pink.
It’s been raining here most of the day, nice weather to cozy up with a Dorothy Sayers mystery.
How’s everyone?
there is still some here…
Hi Margot, Big fire in the fireplace tonight… Somehow we escaped our first snow last night. Wish I could find time for a good mystery.
I’m still sick. It’s not the flu, just a bitch of a cold. I’m dragged out, have that “tired but wired” feeling.
I hope I don’t wake myself up coughing again.
codeine cough syrup.. works every time specially after the third tablespoon…
ok, it’s definitely me. i can not get the second video to play…
reboot city
LOL… I know codeine pills made me one happy liberal blogger last winter..)
It loaded slow for me, but load and play it did on the first try.
That session is really nice… inside Chessvolt studios.
reboot city
A a a MAC?? oh nosies
Don’t have any, I’d like it. I’m trying to not take anything but advil because I want to be able to wake up. I’ll see how it goes.
I had no problems using Windows 7
I like Snow Leopard. Nice, smooth OS.
Must be that time of the year. /s
ah, that’s more like it
Starting to think about recipes for next week.
nice tunes.
second downloaded v e r y s l o w l y
kind of Springsteeny, the organ sound/mix is a bit too shrill for my taste
do brine your turkey… I cooked a 14lb last night
I brined for 36 hours… boy the white meat is just running with juices and is tender as all get out…
Don’t think I will do turkey this year.
Wild mushroom soup. Mandarin wild rice stuffed cornish hens. Maybe some venison or a small ham.. or both if i crank up the smoker.
Hey punaise, Agreed.. a bit.
Seems like it was barely a year ago I was posting rough videos of Langhorne Slim sitting down on the ground in an alley behind club.. playing and singing.
Now.. I heard him playing in a major TV commercial this week.
I’ve been on Macs ever since I started with computers. I have a PC to do QA on my web work, but that’s all it’s used for. Everything else is done on the Mac.
I rarely have to reboot. Leopard and Snow Leopard are very stable.
dialing it back just a tad would work
yeah…
this is different.
Margaret and Helen has a good pre thanksgiving post up.
What is 10.5.8? Must be some kind of leopard..
Evening.
Somewhere here is a phenomenal cranberry sauce recipe: cranberries and candied ginger. Maybe M Stewart. Time to dig it out and stock the freezer with cranberries.
Lithuanian horse club was CIA ‘black site

love it
Hi Sunny… this is my favorite.
Mama Stamberg’s Cranberry Relish Recipe
Hi ES
M and H… best southern reading since Molly passed.
Hey there, big brother…)
“…,let’s fight about the things that matter like world peace and apple pie.”
Hi again ES! And Newt and Sunny! And hello, big brother and punaise! It’s bleuz..
It’s been a while. Busy trying to juice my PR/news tasks into paying work. Ah…
And your chatting about Thanksgiving fixin’s is making me hungry.
Sorry to hear that one of us is sick, with a cold?
You make the crust.. I’ll put on some music.
BleuZ!
Hope your efforts have been fruitful. You certainly have some great vids under your belt.
Pepto pink, cool! I’ll try it.
Here’s the one I was thinking about:
Ginger Pear Cranberry Sauce
1 pear Comice
juice of 1/2 lemon
3 cups fresh cranberries
1 Cup sugar(i use less)
2/3 cup water
1/4 cup chopped crystallized ginger
1/2 t ground cinnamon
cook chopped pear with lemon juice add cranberries along with sugar, water
ginger and cinnamon. simmer gently stirring occasionally. let cool
Always thought it would make a dandy pie.
Hi BleuZ!
Started on the world peace train in 1969 seems that the war/weapons industry has destabilised as many arenas as possible to maximize their profits while holding hands with the militaries worldwide. Slaughter a business. All the pain and suffering that is created by this funding could fix the global economy, provide worldwide healthcare and stop global warming.
Hey ES! Thanks! I’m trying to build on that, man-oh-man! One curious thing about that.. another HCR group tried to con me out of my raw tape for their own stuff.. They’d said that CNN wanted it.. I’m no dummy. I called into my contacts at CNN and no such inquiry.
Go figure.
I’m working with a new bunch, now, while plying the HCR crew. One of new people is Jon Pincus, whom you know, I think? It’s the GetFISARight effort. The level of intelligence blows my hair back!
What’ve you been up to?
Hi again Sunny! How’re you doing?
Sorry I’ve been away for a while..
And that cranberry ginger pear sounds (sigh) YUMMY!
So who volunteers for making homemade vanilla ice cream to go on top of that hot apple pie?
Terpinhydrate (?) codine was a fave here years ago. Just had to sign the “drug book” at the pharma.
bigbrother, you are SO correct about how the funds spent on war could benefit so many.
Eisenhower warned us about the ‘military industrial complex…’ It is maddening.
Hello all.
Yes… I’m still on his email list for fisa issues. He’s quite something.
Lets get punaise to do it.
Morris! Nice to see ya.
Oooh.
I have a wonderful recipe for cinnamon ice cream.. that is so rich. It’s done in a double boiler.. so good on apple pie. But ya can’t use it on pumpkin pie, because the cinnamon in the ice cream competes with the spices in the pumpkin pie.. I’ve used this cinnamon ice cream with a peach / plum crostata.
I’ll dig up that recipe, if anybody wants it?
Hi there Morris!
Nice to be here.
It’s been a wild couple of months
greetings bleuZ and Morris
I’ll ask Ben and Jerry to help.
@ grew up with Mom giving us that for coughs & Colds…
Really good to see you Morris.
I’m helping the FISA team to brewing a new Open Letter to BO, since the Patriot Act will sunset the end of the year. The team likes my writing, my insights on PR angles.. We’ll see. An impressive bunch of justice advocates in the group, who know their stuff COLD. A welcome contrast to some of the folks I’d been working with on HCR issues.
Mind you, I haven’t given up on the HCR challenge. I stepped back a bit after I had a serious disagreement with one of the national groups actions. I’m still working on two of the story lines of the insurance-denial victims. It’s not like I’ve left them in the lurch.
A An Easy Loading Cory, Same Tune
I coulda SWORN I saw Cory Chisel out west this past couple of fest seasons, but lineup info to fests I went to don’t show his name.
Born Again has a nice hook in it, that I’ve heard before with that Hammond B3 sound.
Those chord changes are REALLY familiar.
Like something Indigenous did . . . THAT’S the hook that’s killin me.
Knew it would come to me if I stalled enuff!
I like Cory Chisel, ES, thanks for another turn on, I’ll bet I DO see him out here at Americana Festings sooner than later . . . *G*
How’s Pups? Anyone awake? I’m late to the party, been finding local jams to attend, went to one tonite.
Having a BALL! *G*
There’s more action in this town than I ever dreamed of!!!
One step down from regional pickers who do studio stuff or have bands.
Open mic type folks, fest folks who want to jam local.
All acoustic, lotsa Dead, Stones, Buffalo Springfield, lotsa classic blue and new grass and covers of tunes by Dylan, and many others. Even some folks who KNOW what newgrass is!!!
*G*
Whodathunkit!!!
*G*
It worked.
Me too.
Can still remember the taste. Liked it!
In my wasted youth back in art school we used to imbibe Robitussin AC. Cherry flavor and a healthy dose of Codeine. Half a bottle worked just fine. Not to brag but William S. Burroughs turned me on to it.
I want it!
Ya know, that’s always been the reason for war for the most part . . . I was taught that shit in high school (and by my father liberal he was) in the late 60′s and early 70′s, and again in college a few times thru the 80′s and 90′s.
But I don’t think, despite all MY missives about big biz, I’ve ever condensed it down so neatly.
Nicely done, hoss, nicely done.
hi punaise! And how have you been? I apologize that I’ve been away from LateLateFDL for a while..
A lot of HCR splintering going on these days.
very well indeed & ya slept well that nite..
Hey Larue! Nice to see you here tonight. It’s bleuz.. the one with the house in North Jersey with the bees and the bears and the turkey vultures and one hell of a legal bill related to that place. But I don’t want to be a downer and slog on about that legal morasse.
How’ve you been?
Yes, there has been.. and it’s just nuts. The single payer people won’t talk to the public option people and HEY, WE’RE ALL on the same team. Geez..
Hello again, nahant!
Hey Larue, I couldn’t track down the familiar sound (hook) in the Cory song. Thought it was old Van Morrison, but I skimmed through Veedon Fleece.. and that’s not it.
Where are you?
Yup, and we all lost.. time to try again.
Okay.. Lemme go get it. be right back. ;-)
hello back bleuz how ya been? Jersy ?? I have and old friend out on Sandy Hook who just found me on FB after 30 years… FB sure seems to help ya find old friends…
Another influence I hear in MY ears to Cory Chisel is Natalie Merchant’s ‘Give ‘Em What They Want’.
I’m LIKING Cory Chisel!! *G*
BTW, a couple of names in here tonite I’ve not seen, and might not even recall. But something rings a bell about them both . . . .
And it seems the two of yas are held in high regard, for all the right reasons!
So, a big Left Coast Howdy from Larue to BleuZ and Morris S!
*G*
Wasn’t it called tussinex back then? *s*
Too funny! I just made a comment about this very same thang . . . your fonts (as Suz would say) look familiar!
I’ve forgotten any details, hope I never said too much untoward with or to ya!!! lol
Man, when I first started commenting at blogs at bluegrass sites, I got in LOTS of trouble for my political positions. Then, I learned about political blogs, and got in trouble a bit, for my ADAMANT positions as expressed.
Now, I only pick and prey on the weak, 23% and the GOP!!! *G*
Delighted to howdy with ya!!! *GRIN*
Sacto.
Cinnamon Ice Cream
2 C heavy cream
2/3 C sugar
4 egg yolks
1 C milk
1 T powdered cinnamon
Heat cream and sugar over barely simmering water in a double boiler. Beat egg yolks with milk and cinnamon, and stir into cream. Cook gently, stirring, until thickened. Partially freeze in a shallow pan; rewhip, refreeze.
Serves 6, or serves 8 if used as a pie gracenote.
In view of all the incredibly rich and powerful groups lined up against HCR, which would severely impact their income streams, it’s amazing we’ve gotten this far.
What we’ll probably get is not all that much. It’s a weak, watered down, tiny, hesitant, wrong footed first step, at best. But it is a first step, however pitiful, and that does mean something and in a way is a great victory after decades of no steps at all.
Don’t remember that. It was Robitussin on the bottle.
Back at ya, Larue! And nah, you never offended me. At all! I just wish I was as savvy about music as the rest of the LateLateFDLers are. You all teach me so much!
So what’s new with you?
Thanks. This is going to happen here. Have access to fab cream.
Gotta upgrade my cinnamon – been grating sticks and it’s just not right…
And there was some cough medicine I used to take that tasted like I had fistful of pennies in my mouth. Ick. Who of us here is nursing a cold, or flu?
I swear by Tiger Balm help with the stuffiness. Plus, I love the artwork on those little tins. Time was, you could ONLY find it in herb/spice shops and groceries in ChinaTown. In Philly, anyway.
Ah, it’s so good, but be warned. Just like with any other homemade egg/cream custard, it takes a long time to get it to thicken without getting lumpy.. Maybe you have others who can take turns stirring it?
I had to do that once when I made cream of chestnut soup for Thanksgiving. That.. was a task, but worth it. From an old Julie Dannenbaum cookbook. Peeling off the papery wrapping on the chestnuts was a chore, and I didn’t want to use chestnut puree.
(That was in my early Martha-wannabe phase, before Martha Stewart turned up on the horizon. Yeah, so maybe it was my Julia-Child-wannabe phase? (snicker))
You know cinnamon is a major herb in Chinese medicine, called rou gui. It is warming and a blood stimulant, helps digestion, diabetes and is a common ingredient in lots of formulas. Very good for you.
Maybe you’re thinking of terpin hydrate. It was real common in the 50′s and 60′s was used to break up phlegm and often mixed with codeine. Mostly seen as a clear, colorless syrupy liquid.
New? Just festing, music, domestic support for honey, on top of transportation and all them manly issues.
Lots of reading bloggies, I know more now that supports all my years as a prog/lib from the 60′s than I knew then. Same patterns, same principles, same class struggle.
Only it’s deeper, uglier, and nastier.
Them bads mens got some serious middle class and we the people backlash comin at them due to this recession/depression! Only a matter of time until major strikes and street protests begin.
They took it too far, they deregulated too much, they transferred wealth of the masses upwards to much and too far.
And although I don’t think they care what HAPPENS to we the people in USA because them bads mens are now globally ripping off the humans, I DO think they have been fucking stupid in doing so.
They could have had the middle class in this country in their pockets, for generations, but they got greedy.
And they is gonna hear about it . . . *G*
Aside from class and political ranting . . . Desperate for a job, thinking Dec-Jan might find me lucky, and have NO idea why I feel that way other than I’m willing to grovel, work for pennies, work part time and shine shoes and park cars for the wealthy!!! ;-)
Can I get you some fries with that 1,200 cal triple bacon, cheese and guacomole burger with the mayonaise and butter slathered grilled sourdough bun?
*G*
Yep, controls blood sugars AND blood pressure.
One tea spoon a day!
*G*
Thanks for the perspective. My rage isn’t productive.
Yes, it is!! Though I’ve heard conflicting info on just what’s in it. And some on the HCR crew I run with are reading through it tonight. We were all set to caravan to DC to actually stand outside Congress and publicly read this new bill come this Saturday.
We’d hosted HR 3200 readings across PA in the past month. What a haul! The events started at 5AM and lasted til almost 11PM. The first ones were covered by the press. The last one we did in Philly — at the Liberty Bell no less!– was eclipsed by the World Series fervor that enveloped the city. TV, radio, print news folks were busy covering Phillies rallies. Ah well.
I heard some rumblings that there are co-ops in this bill too, but I don’t know details. My HCR crew will feed us all summaries of their findings in the AM..
Good lord, we were raised on that from ’63 on till we all left the house during the 70′s.
Man, THAT’S some old home memory!!!
*G*
Hey, what are all you East Coasters doing up so late on a school night?
It’s only midnite 30 our here left coast, but it’s LATE back there!!!
Oh, I hear you! Maybe you heard today that Goldman Sachs is trying to fend the bad press they’ve received for their BIG F*ing bonuses that they spread around with our TARP money? Get this.. Goldman made big press noises today how they will give $ 500 million to small businesses. And just how much did those bastards get of our money, our great-great-grandchildren’s money? $500 million is spit, dust, compared to what they got.
Hey Larue.. not sure if you’ve seen this already. Here’s a new version of the Lord’s Prayer that someone up on FB posted to a link.
Here’s a new version of the Lord’s Prayer,
written last week after Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs,
said he was just “doing God’s work:”
(posted by Kurt Petersen)
THE LLOYD’s Prayer
Our Chairman,
Who Art At Goldman,
Blankfein Be Thy Name
The Rally’s Come. God’s Work Be Done
On Earth As There’s No Fear Of Correction.
Give Us This Day Our Daily Gains,
And Bankrupt Our Competitors
As You Taught Lehman and Bear Their Lessons.
And Bring Us Not Under Indictment.
For Thine Is The Treasury,
The House And The Senate
Forever and Ever.
Goldman.
Heh, too funneh!
I knew a Curt Peterson from San Mateo, CA, long ago . . .
Ya never know . . . . the one I knew, he was headed for a life as a GOP disciple, though.
;-)
Well time to hit the hay Pups… sleep well when ya git there *g*
Custard is a major food group here. Grew up making snow pudding with custard sauce. Too spooked about uncooked eggs to do snow pudding now, though do have access to seemingly safer eggs.
I think some of the Cons are actually right when they say the public option, so worthless in itself that it hardly seems worth protesting about, is just the first step on a slippery slope to socialized medicine.
At least I hope so!
I look at it this way–
Sixteen years ago Clinton attempted HCR that was more progressive and more comprehensive and in all ways better than what we might be getting now. It went nowhere. Sixteen years later things were, if anything worse than in ’93. What would we have now if Clinton had been able to pass something even as weak as this bill? What may we have sixteen years from now if this passes?
Good night, Nahant! I’ll try to ‘tune into’ LateLateFDL a little earlier next time, to catch up. And you’re so right about finding old friends on FB. Been amazed myself.
Penzeys time!
Pleasure chatting witcha all . . . I’m headed out myself.
Peace, good food no matter HOW simple, cold beer, cheap likker and warm women (or men) to all y’all.
The rest of ya just shake yer jewelry, up there in the balcony and take care of those that matter to ya.
Hug em close, keep em closer.
None of us gets out alive, we might as well enjoy it while we’re here!
*G*
BP is an issue here. I’m on it.
And sharing this with Sunny, too:
The Cons are so bumfuzzled by the lies fed them by the astroturfs, abetted by their racist diatribes and all that.. Big Insurance doesn’t want to lose their lock on our wallets and their vitriol is just stunning.
The one thing that blows me away about the (ahem) teabaggers: they’re all railing against socialized medicine and the rest of their Dick Armey fed BS.. but most of the teabaggers I’ve seen at events they’ve swamped: they are all on Medicare. And their signs scream ‘No Obamacare’ but they swear out loud publicly to us lefties, “Don’t you touch my Medicare.”
Hello! Medicare is socialized medicine. Don’t they get it? As in cognitive dissonance?
grumblegrumble
‘Night Larue! Thanks for saying hello! And I may be slinging guacamole burgers soon myself.. if something doesn’t break for me.
Lots of Chinese herbs for BP. Du Zhong (Chinese rubbbertree bark) is another one, along with hawthorne berries (Shan Zha). See a well trained acupuncturist or Chinese herbalist because there are formulas that make these herbs more effective than taking them alone.
No, they don’t get it. As in cognitive dissonance.
Would be funny if it weren’t so tragic.
Sorry firedogs.. lost my net for a while.
Now that it’s restored I bid you all a good night…)
Thanks for the hospitality ES. Sweet dreams and watch your mailbox *g*
‘Night ES.
Guess I’m all in as well.
Good night, ES, and thanks for the warm welcome back.. next time!
And it’s now 4AM here.. it’s a capper for me, too, fellow firedogs.. .
Sunny, glad to have shared that ice cream custard recipe with you. Haven’t made a snow pudding in … phew.
G’night Morris, sorry, but I need to bail now. Thanks for your Chinese herb suggestions!
wow. work is finally lightening up enough that i get home before Attaturk’s post pops, and everyone’s gone to bed! :tantrum:
Hi, I’m still up.
Any luck on the housing front?
Now I’m out. nighters
