This might be the stupidest thing Sarah Palin has ever said. And yes, that’s saying something.
“I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead. And I don’t think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the Jewish settlements cannot expand.”
I don’t even know where to start with this nonsense. Ronald Reagan called Israeli settlements “unnecessarily provocative.” The first Bush administration called them an “obstacle to peace.” And even if you accept Palin’s creepy Lebensraum frame, the Palestinian population is growing faster than the Israeli population.
J Street wasn’t amused.
J Street rejects Sarah Palin’s comments attacking President Obama’s sensible policy on Israeli settlements in the West Bank yesterday during an ABC News interview with Barbara Walters.
Palin’s pandering to her right-wing base comes at the expense of the security of the State of Israel, the lives of those actually living the conflict, and the fundamental American interest in achieving a two-state solution in the near term. Her words reveal a glaring ignorance of damaging facts and a callous disregard of past and present U.S. policy.
“Glaring ignorance” is being far too kind. What a clown.

Teh stupid, it burns!
And her tour is just beginning. I’ll bet she tops that one in less than 72 hours.
Liebermansraum
C’mon BT, Jews have been building settlements in Israel since the world was created 6,000 years ago. Read yer history.
I so wish that Sarah Palin’s folly could simply be ignored because it is just getting old. But like elevator music I am afraid that we are going to be hearing from her for a long time. Of course she is showing her ignorance of the substance of the issues and of course she is opposing the Obama administration policy because that is what she does: if the President says the sky is blue she will dispute it. The problem is that when she conjectures on things she knows nothing about she complicates things for the truly interested parties who are trying to make life liveable for their peoples. The inherit problem with assuming that she knows what is better for the lives of people she has never met or spoken to. The problem with assuming that it is any of her business. Oh that nutty Sarah.
I guess Bill Kristol didn’t give her a full briefing on that one. Too bad Ms. Walters seemed unaware of this fact as well. Palin is an idiot and as media matters points out today, she making fools of all the Beltway press who seem to have no problem covering her, even though she refuses to sit down with any serious political journalist. At least now we know why! I wish she take her bad parenting skills and just go away. I’d suggest she keep those other daughters of hers with her from now on though. I mean, look what happend the last time she left them with their father.
Let’s hope the president comes out soon with a policy to fight teen pregnancy. We’ll just see how Ms Facebook responds to that! Stupid Hillbilly!
She’s only vocally expressing a sentiment that the vast majority of congress critters support. Whatever partisan indignation against the PaleoBimbette ignores the reality attendant, for instance the vote on the Goldstone Report.
Some introspection here would help this Nation regain a modicum of moral fortitude.
Stop being partisan putzes, – your host certainly isn’t!
I guess you forgot the “/s”
You people sure are fascinated with Sarah.
Still, the issue of peace in the middle east is big one and has been ever since Israel was created.
I have an idea. Since Israel has so many places considered holy by not just the jews but the muslims as well (and the christians too), why not….move Israel. I mean the Israeli people. Why not move them to Iceland? Iceland only has about 300,000 people at present so they could easily be relocated if they so desired. Iceland would also provide a place where Israel would no longer have any next door neighbors. That should help quiet things down.
Of course there’s all those holy places but I have a solution. Why couldn’t the UN transport part of these things to Iceland? Take that wall they all like to go to and pray. Maybe it could be cut in half and have one half taken to Iceland and reconstructed. Same with those other places that are holy (and which slip my mind at the moment).
The more I write the more I’m impressed with my own ideas. Maybe I should get the Nobel Peace Prize next year. Becasue I’m modest, I’m going to let one of you people do the nominating.
At some point we have to begin to realize that this maroon is the hart and sowl of the gop. There is no reason to think that she is being stupider than before. She probably doesn’t have a leash any longer, so it could be plain ignorance.
But they flock to her. They love that she wants to kill everyone that isn’t perky. They shoot their guns off on pictures of their face as they are reloading their rifles.
Stupid breeds, and it just keeps on coming. Imagine being as dumb as an American? The world laughs and cries.
Didn’t think it was necessary.
Enjoy your next president. That is how feckless the Democrats have become.
What do you mean, “you people”? We’re Americans… aren’t you?
I’d like to know what the voter participation rates are in the rural areas whence she draws her support. Since they are a minority of the total population, they must vote close on to 110 percent to have the weight they carry. Aren’t there any suburban Thugs anymore. Where did they all go?
Republicans are more powerful in the minority than Dems in the majority. Dem leaders have looked into the problem and concluded the party needs to shift (even farther) to the right.
Read and weep:

U.S. House backs resolution to condemn Goldstone Gaza report
“With a 344-36 vote, the House passed a nonbinding resolution that urged President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to oppose unequivocally any endorsement of the report. Twenty-two representatives voted present.”

Sarah Palin is an evangelical, as was W. This idiocy is crafted to bring on the end times, no doubt.
In a few days, she will be bashing Walters for asking her that trick question. I predict the book tour will be cut short because she will claim that the press was out to get her. Give her a week and all she will be doing is signing books at Walmart. There won’t be book store events because her fans won’t know where to find the book stores in their community.
Actively opposing ANYTHING Israel wants to do is political suicide in this country. The Obama Administration’s tut-tutting does not count, since he would never dare attempt to withhold support. His spineless disapproval of Israeli settlements will accomplish nothing. Muslims know empty rhetoric when they hear it.
This is the dumbest statement of all.
Well there are a number of festering trolls hereabouts these days and the /s symbol is a useful tool to help find them under the rocks. Sorry about that
Wow, I never realized I might be mistaken for a festering troll, or even a troll with a healthy complexion.
I forget, was tinman the one without the heart…or the brain?
accepting your comment, – why the indignation with Sarah Palin overtly reflecting the ‘status quo’ you reference?
Why do so many here knock her, and not their own cocksucking Reps?
This ignorance rooted Faux indignation is pathetic.
I hope Ms. Palin keeps talking, because many people listening to her will begin to understand what she doesn’t: that she doesn’t know much, doesn’t care, and talks about it all anyway.
“Ignorance is curable, but stupidity is terminable”, is an old saying. New knowledge does not persuade authoritarians to change their views, nor does knowledge of their leader’s hypocrisies. They operate on faith, a code that Sarah Palin has memorized, like the King James bible. All Ms. P need do is continue to talk and to claim leadership by claiming to put authoritarian followers’ interests first. She doesn’t really have to do that, mind, just claim she’s doing it.
Ms. Palin can continue to sell her legs as her most appealing attribute, while claiming to be a feminist. She can continue to show her deep ignorance, while claiming to be informed enough to be a pundit. She can continue to walk away from public responsibility, while claiming to seek it. Awareness of such traits won’t harm her street cred with authoritarians; it will more likely increase it. But it ought to harm her credibility with independents, true moderates and liberals.
That’s still enough to make Palin laugh all the way to the bank. She’s now a millionaire celebrity. And the more thinking people find her laughable, the more authoritarians will conclude she’s a victim, just like them. Except that like unlike them, she won’t have trouble finding a job or meeting her bills or feeding her children or getting them and herself medical care, regardless of pre-existing conditions. Those problems will afflict her followers, she won’t care, and they will follow her anyway.
Please specify points as to why it is political suicide. The Jewish population in this country is small.
I wonder if Jeebuz will come back during Palin’s book tour? It would be sorta cool watching her and her entourage ascend into the heavens. Might even make the Glenn Beck show…well…with a guest host, of course.
“Wait! I wanted you to sign my copy of your book!”
Whoops, inadvertently fed a troll. Looks like I need to update my scorecard.
That Sarah, chockful o’ commonsense!1!
But the money lenders are powerful
What’s “J Street” got to do with anything? Sarah takes her marching orders from “C Street.”
It sounds as if Sarah is suggesting that the Jewish people will get “rapture fever” soon. Clearly the population of Israel must expand because right now they won’t have the 144,000 adult male virgin Jews living in Israel to convert to followers of Christ unless they bring in a LOT MORE! Without those converts there can be no rapture.
But no one seems to have told Sarah that the real reason that the settlements are being built is because Israel doesn’t dare wish to allow the Palestinians an equal partnership in the state. The period of great Jewish immigration has ended. Palestinians are currently increasing at levels twice that of Israeli Jews. If they actually annexed the West Bank into Israel and made the Palestinians citizens (like the Arab-Israelis) they would lose the strict Jewish identity of the state.
How can anyone who has participated in beauty pageants keep a straight face while claiming to be feminist?
She posed for a magazine wearing running shorts and then claims that publication of that photo is sexist? Gaaaaaaah!!/rant off

Decider Bush only pretends to be an evangelical.
Which means that the small percentage of citizens in the US that are Jewish are not the political power. AIPAC is the power. Thus, AIPAC needs to file as a foreign agent status.
Again, remember the Jewish population in the US is small in regards to our overall population. So the power is not from the population representation in the US.
The pro-Israel lobby owns the entire legislative branch and none of the major media outlets will take serious issue with any Israeli action. Human rights abuses tend to go unmentioned. There is actually more media criticism of Israel’s policies within Israel than in this country.
I’m not going to take time to create and document the list you asked for. Feel free to consider my assertions unfounded if you like.
Gotta love stereotyping.
What’s so sexist about running shorts?
How did China make it into the discussion?
Because Jews love chinese food?
Absolutely.
Blankenfein, Greenberg (Maurice is not French), Dimon, Rubin, etc…..
Tell that to Goldman Sachs…. and then try and get our money back.
Sarah Palin is a knucklehead, but she gets plenty of press in spite of it. If you guys would quit following her, maybe she would just fade away…. But the more important question here, as I’ve always questioned, is “why doesn’t anyone say what the Palestinians can do for peace? How come it’s always ISRAEL, ISRAEL, ISRAEL. The settlements are an obstacle to peace, but how can you make peace with someone who doesn’t even recognize your right to exist? Aren’t suicide (better, homicide) bombings an obstacle to peace? Aren’t statements like “Israel should be wiped off the map,” made but the major funder to Palestinian terrorism i.e. Hamas, obstacles to peace? If you want to enlist the support of liberal and moderate Jews in the U.S. and elsewhere, you might try being even-handed!
I am trying to make a point about the flow of power and how we must look at the flow of power. We can undo the “ownership”. It can be done.
The first step would be a mass movement to change AIPAC’s status.
My question was not out of ignorance but to make a point.
Ask Sarah Palin. It’s her claim.
how do you go about aggregating that mass?
Take money out of politics and AIPAC will wither.
how is that because of religion or ethnicity?
Are the spelling errors on purpose or are you just illiterate i.e. maroon –> moron, hart –> heart, sowl –> soul?
I think it can be clearly “walked” out that AIPAC is more a foreign agent than any other representation.
Do we really want a foreign agent calling the shots with our tax dollars?
It’s downright un-American. It’s un-patriotic.
King David Hotel
I vote for the purpose of injecting a little humor in the discussion.
Ugh. This thread isn’t worth the reading time. I will check back later when the discussion gets substantive again.
are you auditioning for a spell checker job? I suggest you move on.
More “clubish” like Skull and Bones.
I actually agree there is too much attention being paid to Palin. Most of it is coming though from the MSM. If I flip through the cable news channels it is Palin, Palin, Palin. As I said yesterday, ABCNews devoted a sizable chunk of its newscast to the Walters-Palin interview in which she made her incredibly stupid remarks about settlements. Palin is just another whacko Republican politician, one so inept that she could not even make it through a single term as governor of a very low population state propped up by big oil revenues. As others have pointed out, if she weighed 300 pounds, no one would be talking about her at all.
I think you’ve misconstrued Palin’s comment and underjudged the magnitude of her ignorance.
It sounds to me like Palin just doesn’t know what the term “Jewish settlement” means in the context of the last 30 years. She thinks that “Jewish” means “Israeli” and that the settlements are thus in Israel–in Tel Aviv, Israel. I don’t think she is even aware of the Greater Israel dreamed by the Israeli right.
The rest of her remark suggests that, being ferinners and all, “Jewish people” are going to want to be heading back home before the end times roll out “in the days and weeks and months ahead”, presumably so that the actual Amurricans can get ready for the Rupture or whatever.
Oy.
He said:
Imagine being dumber than one?
beam me up scotty.
i think with the new star trek movie being as awesome as it is, that phrase should be put back in circulation.
‘if she weighed 300 pounds, no one would be talking about her at all.’
I think you are maligning the MSM. She is already the next best thing to a chimpanzee in a dress, and the MSM does like its comic monkey acts.
Festering troll? Just ick. But not (((ratfood))).
“I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow.”
The U.S. population is growin’ too. I think we’re gonna to need a little bit o’Canada soon. Sure hope they don’t mind :)
Here’s a little even-headedness for you…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehi_(group)
Yep. Even Andrea Mitchell was broadcasting from a Palin book selling today. You would think they have learned their lesson that looking spiffy and speaking ignorance with a twang gets you into two wars and a depression.
As in right off the stage! While this country is crawlng with the stupid, they are still outnumbered!
If Sarah Palin was 300 pounds she never would have been selected VP by McCain.
And she’s not granting any of them interviews! Now, they say she’s got a platform set up outside the store where she’ll give what sounds like a campaign speech. I just wish they had asked one of the inbreds lined up to buy this door stop why they’d buy a book from someone would couldn’t even prove she actually reads? And why they think she and McCain took a historical ass whipping from the Dems if they’re ideas are better?
I tend to agree with your assessment but would only add that the U.S. tabloid celebrity culture/machine is making money hand over fist because of her-another reason to keep her (and all things Palin-think Playgirl) in the spotlight.
It’s cheaper than buying firewood to heat their hovels?
She’s a kwitteh, and the more she gets an open forum to make her continual giant pho pauses, the more she will be publicly embarrassed.
I’d be willing to bet she won’t finish this tour. She’ll kwit, humiliated. And SOME of her stops are gonna pull out of her appearances due to the escalating horrors she will inflict upon us all.
The GOP won’t have anything to do with her for ’12.
And that’s a shame for the Dem’s (not that the GOP has anything else better to run out there).
Thanks for this….the born-again spokespeople intend to convert all those people of Israel; she is holding out a landgrab for the “incomplete Christians.” At least she speaks the truth as she understands it, no matter how erroneous.
“I’d be willing to bet she won’t finish this tour.”
Interesting notion, although she probably has a contractual obligation to complete x amount of “song and dance” stops before she can bail…unless she wants the bejeebuz sued out of her, of course…which would be quite entertaining, in and of itself.
Michael Whitney has a fresh cross-post ready: “Welcome to Work in Progress”
I support the Alaskan secessionist movement.
If Alaska were it’s own Palin style country, think how many bubbas from the deep south would move there seeking utopia, giving up their citizenship in the process.
The only possible downside would be the subsequent treatment of the brown people up there.

No wonder Bibi is so arrogant. His little mafia controls the U.S., U.K., and Lieutenant Sarkozy is holding down the fort in France.
Talk about rule by f*cking proxy.
Let us remember that “Jewish”, “Israeli”, “AIPAC”, and “pro-settlements” are not the same things. Jewish Americans are Americans, not Israelis, and, in my experience, they tend to hold as varied a range of political views as any other religious or ethnic group in the US.
The latter is actually true of Israelis, as well. Their crazy current political situation is the result of too many views and therefore, of not having had a majority government in something like 40 years. Not that America has much to boast about as far as expressing majority opinion goes.
Ah, but we’d have to let the non-pale part of the population and anyone with a brain to secede from Alaska as part of the deal, taking a share (all?) of the oil with them.
I posited similar below in Mz. Hamsher’s thread.
She’s a kwitteh.
Without sufficient muzzling and coaching (which she’s proven to ignore) she’s gonna continue to self destruct to her embarassment and her publisher’s embarassment.
At SOME point, her stops will be cancelled by either publisher or the venues, out of pure embarassment and bad publicity they will receive for HAVING The Kwitta Kum Wassila in their locations.
The GOP already want’s little to do with her. This failed tour will cement her place in history with Quayle and the like, although she’s an insult to Quayle and potatoe’s everywhere.
“LA LA LA LA LA LA LA”
(turns music up louder)
If anything is misjudged, it’s her malevolence. IMHO, of course.
The Rapture cannot occur until the Temple is rebuilt. On the Temple Mount. As you may know, there is a slight problem with that scenario. The Dome of the Rock, I believe it’s called.
I spent my childhood listening to this dribulous doctrine but eventually escaped. The people who actually believe this stuff don’t just believe. They BUH-LEEEEVE (insert bible whack here).
Palin and her religious wingnut buddies know exactly what they are saying. Armageddon … bring it on!
Of course I don’t really think any diety is going to take anybody up in the air. But if impatient fundies take action to speed things along their way, some bad shit could go down. Fundies are not strange bedfollows. They are genocidal bedfellows, at least for Israelis.
I’m just de-lurking, BTW, and apologize if I have violated any site etiquette or spoken out of turn. I may not have looked closely enough, but I didn’t see any particular rules for newbies.
The history of ’48 and pre/post Israel is pretty richly covered, up thru to today’s present times, WRT the influence that Israeli politics has had on US Politics.
A detailed response to your question would take hours of posting link after link.
The fact that you would even ASK that question boggles any reality since ’48.
Hey Ratfood, dang it if MY scorecard is growing fast, too.
*G*
Updated that scorecard again, didja?
*G*
This is like claiming Goliath was an underdog GOING INTO the fight.
Ya gotta be kidding?
Note: Updated yet again.
Thank you. That is a fantastic link. I had no idea that GB had its’ own Abramoff type power player. Even looks and dresses alike.
Hi Barbara!
Your comment made me smile thinking of some old Monty Python.
This is for you and Ratfood . . . *G*
Q: Shut your festering gob, you tit! Your type really makes me puke, you vacuous, coffee-nosed, maloderous, pervert!!!
M: Look, I CAME HERE FOR AN ARGUMENT, I’m not going to just stand…!!
Q: OH, oh I’m sorry, but this is abuse.
Hope all is well with you, don’t forget to update your scorecard! I gotta get a new one it’s so busy in here today!

Palins comments are far more provocative than just being politically stupid.
Ms Palin is part of the charismatic movement of the very Christian right. It is standard fair for the far right Christian movement that the more Jews return to Israel and that includes the West Bank the sooner the “end times” will come. This was an underlying policy of the very evangelical George W Bush as well and all evangelicals within the GOP. Ms Palin is simply a spokes person for the Christian Taliban and her motivation is simply radical. Sadly the conservative Jews in Israel played and continue to play to this group. They sadly use each other for two very different agendas but are indeed strange bed fellows that are both simply disingenuous in there motivation.
Methinks that ascribes WAY too much thought upon the part of Palin and her reality.
She’s a grifter, clinging to ANYthing that can get her money, publicity (even bad publicity) and the like.
In terms of misguided commitment to a cause, Fred Phelps and HIS family are much more down the road you pave.
Palin? She’s just walking anywhere with anything that she can grift, in pursuit of fame and glory.
I ALMOST think she’s the sicker of the two. But like apples and oranges, I guess I shouldn’t compare SICKNESS between those two . . . . they are both sick, for different reasons with different purpose.
Just my thoughts on it . . . .
You make my point. When one makes a broad statement about political suicide due to anti-Israeli perspectives it comes back to AIPAC. Not the diverse population ascribing to any aspect of Jewish culture or religion. And when one makes the broad sweep, they need to be ready to give specifics.
My “asking” was rhetorical. No “boggle” on my end as far as history. I simple do not support AIPAC.
The link @ 76 is worth linking to.
Just got out of teaching class and giving make-up exams to kids, and saw BT’s post.
Here’s mine on this from earlier today.
Exchanges I’d like to see:
Reporter:
Ms Palin, when Jesus returns to earth to settle old scores what will happen to the Jews in Israel who refuse to accept Christ as their Savior?
Palin:
They will be Left Behind, of course. And, I suppose, burn in Hell for eternity
I think Jennifer Aniston is more qualified and would make a better president because she has lots of experience being a friend and stuff too.
America’s elite and Palin-haters worldwide should not be so quick to dismiss or disregard the future of Sarah Palin. No other national political figure so completely fills Middle America’s vacuum of frustration and hate for the Left and Right as Sarah Palin.
Middle America has been abandoned by the Left and Right, who have saddled it with a $700 billion taxpayer bailout, an unnecessary and costly war, a soaring deficit, and an overall neglect of the pocketbook issues that impact Middle America every day. Where are job creation, quality public education, affordable healthcare, and fiscal responsibility, to name a few?
Middle America is mad as hell at the Left and Right and they just might be willing to roll the dice on someone like Palin, who lacks an Ivy League education, is a working class hockey-mom with a disabled child, and who has blue-collar roots like many of the folks in Middle America. The status quo on the Left and Right have produced nothing material for Middle America, which may toss conventional wisdom into the toilet and throw the lever for Palin, figuring it has nothing to lose, and it may be right.
The Ivy League educated on the Left and Right have delivered little to nothing for Middle America, perhaps precisely because they are out of touch with the issues that someone like Palin understands personally.
However, to say that Palin is a salmon swimming upstream is an understatement. The results of a CBS News survey released Monday indicate that 66 percent of respondents do not want her to run for the White House in 2012. Seventy percent of respondents to a CNN/Opinion Research poll said she is not qualified to be president.
More difficult for Palin is the fact that the trend is not her friend—public opinion is moving in the wrong direction right now.
In the CBS survey, 43 percent of GOP respondents said Palin would have the ability to be an effective president. Only 11 percent of Democrats and 29 percent of independents agreed.
However, there is an opportunity for Palin among independents, where Palin’s rating is 41 percent favorable, and 48 percent unfavorable, according to Gallup.
These numbers are not great, but there is plenty of time if she can move the needle by appealing to Middle America and independents, which is where elections are won or lost.
Clearly, Palin has put the monkey on her back, especially with her resignation from Alaska’s governorship in July, a self-inflicted wound that will be difficult to explain away. However, don’t put it past Palin to put lipstick on this pig and paint herself as a victim of politically motivated and baseless ethics charges that prevented her from successfully serving the people of Alaska, forcing her to do the noble thing and take the bullet by resigning.
We can say what we want about Palin, but no Republican in recent history has created such frenzied excitement across the country as she has. Just take a look at the fervor she stirs as she wheels across Middle America on her book tour.
Perhaps this is a misreading of the tea leaves, but one could argue that she creates a wee bit more excitement than Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee, the two Republican front-runners for president in 2012. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed woman just may be queen.

Even handed treatment would be difficult for Israel. How much money and military stuff do we give them every year? How well would they do without it?
Actually, in past years it was the Arabs who said we weren’t even-handed enough — because we favored Israel too much.
How many decades have we sat by while Israel occupied the West Bank and stole land from Palestinians? Is that not ‘even-handed’ enough?
Palestine now!
Is it not true that Jews everywhere are automatically Israeli? Or, do they have to request Israeli citizenship before automatically getting it?
“Grifter”? No, I think you mean ‘opportunist’. A grifter is a conman or part of a gang of conmen, pulling conjobs to steal.
“as media matters points out today, she making fools of all the Beltway press who seem to have no problem covering her”
Of course, but they are not self-aware enough to be embarrassed, nor would they care if they were smart enough to know. Their employers know the difference, but also do not give a damn.
I remember an NPR report on a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv sometime around the year 2000. The father of one of the victims said that he and his family had moved from Brooklyn, NY to a Jewish settlement,
in order,” as he put it, “to be closer to the West Bank.” I thought it curious that he referred to the region as “the West Bank,” and not Judea or Samaria, but no matter. The thing that struck me as bizarre, was that he was willing to put his family in harm’s way in order to make a political point.
I’ve been listening to Jewish settlers for the last thirty years, and their claims always sound like this,
That’s a fascist statement, and besides, God never said anything to me about it.
I’ll bet dollars to donuts that when she made that remark, she thought the disputed Israeli settlements were in (where else? by golly) … ISRAEL.
