Without pounding on Schaeffer (who I admire for breaking with the whackjobs he helped create and further), I get a Naomi Wolf hit from him now. An alarmist streak almost. But I can’t help but think that he’s wired into their world and can see them coming.
If he was only trying to sell books, it’s unfortunate but perhaps forgivable, since he knows that world.
If he is frightened about where this is going… I don’t know what to say about that.
What really got me is that while I know that’s what the wingnuts are about, as a fisherperson it was the wording that just got me “Trawling for assassins.” Just so visceral.

I half hear that. But instead of being a semi-reasonable clown for her to whack away at with facts and logic, he presents as 100% converted, that he woke up one morning and realized that he had a hand in creating a monster, and owed the country both an unfettered look at it’s making, and the danger it represents.

If such a thing is possible, this is my favorite Schaeffer clip. Fifth column of insanity.
Dude is not kidding around. The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that he is not about the book sales.
he was speaking fast like he was trying to take advantage of every second to talk. he comes across as grateful for the opportunity to redeem himself tinged with some new book sales but i think his sincerity overcomes the book.
Exactly. While I don’t agree with the anti-choice people, I allow that they may come from a real place….in their thinking. But they don’t go out and shoot doctors, you know? It’s when you take the fringe and get them riled up that bad things happen. And I think what he was saying is that the wingers are digging, trawling for the crazies to act out for them.
Yeah. Even though I think choice is a 14th Amendment argument and should not be open to legislative interpretation, it’s easy to understand the pain this brings to some.
I am sure he wants to sell his books, but his books fly in the face of his entire life’s work. It can not be an easy road, and while I like having him ‘over here with us,’ it can’t be comfortable for him yet. Hence the panicky, frenetic pacing perhaps.
Hi Firepups
Cold spell here in 30′s a night. 11 hours writing, talking to and calling attorneys to represent us. I filed Pro Per not so great…missed some procedural, wish Marcy was in my corner. We have coastal appeals coming up as well.
Got healed from broken wrist while doing meditation, which is used to train world class athletes for concentration. Works for me and my funky scull did 1.5 miles in 12:30 minutes or about 2.5 minutes for 500 meters.
Mellowing out with Aroma, Color, sound therapy (chakra balancing)creating high personal energy. Boy do I need it for the catch up job ahead!
Stay well, be well, breathe deep and thanks for wading through all the TV spin so I don’t have to.
Wow, Suz, have I ever mentioned that you have ALL the great links. Man this song… always has done something to me. What a wonderful surprise to click on here tonight, make one click, and hear it again.
Just. Awesome. Especially when you’ve been really down in the dumps. Thanks Suz. Have a great night.
Quiet at my house Suz. My directv receiver stopped working last night and I won’t have a replacement until Friday.
It taught me how anti…quated TV is now. You can pretty much get everything you want to see via computer.
And as to Thanksgiving…..well, yum….and though there has been a certain ‘re-informing’ about the purpose of the day, for me and mine it is a fine time to just hunker down and be thankful for each other and for whatever good things have happened for any of us during the year. And smoked turkey is fabulous!
i’m staying warm and mellow inside and don’t let the storms tweak me. nice buncha hail just got dumped on the deck. i love how it is always changing up here.
Hate and anger are self-destructing emotions that have life changing karma. We practice breathing out those thought and breathing in prana (energy). Hard to be happy when your angry.
i wonder what the vegas odds makers have decided the line is on the health care bill harry presents tomorrow. and how long before harry caves like he always does.
And for me, if Rachel Maddow is buying in, I am less likely to be skeptical of Schaeffer’s unease.
I don’t see him as self-serving. He brought these people to life and then to power (along with his father Francis), and he wears a lot of guilt, from his messaging.
IMHO, he wears it well. I’ve listened to him a number of times, and he has not rattled once. The only thing is that I’ve seen him get very angry at things that didn’t seem to deserve quite that much anger, but that likely shows that he understands the reality of the situation better than I do.
He’s not a charming guy, but he seems to be very righteous and very real. My hat’s off to him.
He does have the countenance of a scold, no doubt about it.
But if you are from where he is from, there are a lot of easier ways to score big bucks than flipping the script and doing Maddow.
I feel for the guy, whether he is selling books or warning of a coming insurrection or whatever. He could have taken a much easier route to wealth. Now he is universally loathed by his former flock, and accorded healthy skepticism by us.
BTW, this seems to be one of those issues that divides “us lefties” and want to take an unscientific poll. I know from reading here at FDL it’s pretty split, so I guess that’ll be the outcome if anyone answers.
But I wonder, how many here feel the same way I do in that I hope the health care bill actually, for real, no bullshit, dies. Gets blocked. Whatever. I really hope it does. Sort of pulling for the righties on this one, you might say (although for VERY DIFFERENT REASONS). But curious as to the late night folks.
Yep, not only excellent sounds, but awesome cartoons and some jaw dropping art. She’s got the links thing down. But this was especially good sounds tonight, gotta agree with you. I had to play it three times now, and am thinking about more. Don’t know if that’s a good thing, or more likely bad thing, but there it is. What a song. Gonna go looking through my old albums for a chance to hear Free Bird now. Damned needle on my turntable is pretty old and decrepid though (a lot like me).
Got all my teeth repaired caps in front for smiles two years most fillings replaced. I have an Sonicare vibrating tooth brush…look out plaque. Do the maintenance or pay the price in pain, time and money.
There are some things that are desperately needed…..no pre-existing condition exceptions, for example, and a govt. plan for those who have no employment option (as opposed to the Wal-Mart idea of teaching their employees how to apply for Medicaid.) We need some program that will compete with the predatory insurance companies, certainly. But our congress seems to be bought and paid for. I see little hope for a purposeful bill.
ya can only do so much without regular dental care. that is what sunk me — i brush and floss after every meal.
had a long spell when my monthly food budget was only $100/month and no money for the dentist. in ca it was usually $100 bucks just to sit in their chair.
OMG!! I really did just dig through my albums and was thinking about hooking up the old TT and of course, unlike everyone else in the 21st Century, didn’t think to look online. Damn. THANK YOU. I know it gets old, but did I mention you have the great links?? lol. Thanks Suz.
I think too many factors are at play in OFG’s question for me to decide. But one possible outcome is that we get no bill, and it irreparably wounds Obama’s Presidency.
Who is our primary candidate? Obama.
Who is the third-party candidate? Irrelevant.
Is there space for the Republican Party to regain the White House? Yes.
my pleasure dood. all my vinyl (and most of my digital) is still in the pod at the portland pod house. i’m spending a lotta time in the utubes (ahem) researching songs for late late nite :)
Watched SICKO last Sunday night…Micheal Moore has the laundry list of healthcare…just make it equal to the Eurpeans and Canada and get out of Medevil medicine. Hi Dearie we chili up here.
Well, thanks for answering. I’ve made up my mind, and have contacted my two Senators (Warner & Webb) to urge them to block it. I really think, instead of the good being the enemy of the perfect, this is an example of the really bad being worse than nothing. I mean, covering folks that weren’t covered is definitely a GOOD. And getting rid of pre-existing conditions and lifetime limits is another GOOD. But without any cost controls whatsoever (and IMO there’s none here) this “good” bill turns into a corporate welfare bill in that it forces them to cover people and procedures they didn’t before but ensure they get paid well for doing so. And, (the worst part, IMO), it will end discussion of “health care reform” for a generation as the pols will be able to say “We just reformed health care, let’s give that last reform a fair shake.”
Sorry for the length, I could’ve kept it simple. I actually, for real, hope it fails. And I consider myself progressive, liberal, socialist, or whatever term you wanna throw out there. I truly think we’re better off if this fails and the issue remains. Just my opinion. YMMV.
I think an Obama loss on Insurance reform leads to health care reform. If he loses this , he has absolutely no choice but to come back to his base. Progressives then become the girl with the curl, and we play VERY hard to get.
If he doesn’t get us back, he will go down as one of the worst and most disappointing Presidents in American history.
there is a part of me who agrees and then there is a part of me thinking about those the health care bill in its final form will help. what that level of help is and the when etc will help me decide if the pro’s outweigh the con’s or the con’s outweigh the pro’s.
at the time i hardly had the money to eat much less take a vacation. the estimate for the work in mexico (very general) was around $2500. my choices were eat or not eat for two years to pay for the teeth.
If he loses this , he has absolutely no choice but to come back to his base.
If he doesn’t get us back, he will go down as one of the worst and most disappointing Presidents in American history.
And the Republican Party has the Executive all to themselves again, and as we all know so well, they are not squeamish about plying it.
Edit: given that we own the Senate and the House now, does anyone think the Democrats are going to suddenly find their spines after having the big chair wrested from their grip?
Wow, just read several other replies to my question. THANK YOU ALL!!! It’s so cool when you realize at least on “this side” of the political hemisphere we actually care about solving problems. And it’s OK if we disagree on how. What I can’t tolerate is totally not wanting to solve them. Which is the right wing way.
Thanks for the responses. Hope you’ll respect my position on this as I will yours. I just don’t respect the right wings NO NO NO NO NO NO NO answer to everything. The “free market” solves all. JUST BULLSHIT. THAT’S where I lose my patience.
i don’t think ya came across as an ass at all — you expressed your concerns just as the rest of us did. tis a sophie’s choice kinda thing we are looking at having to make.
At that point, it really doesn’t matter, IMO. We only have three years to turn this country around anyway. I truly believe that.
We basically had a fascist and corporatist state under Bush. That’s why even thugs voted for Obama. If he’s not going to prosecute criminals, who is?
I think Thom Hartman has it right. Presidents don’t go after their predecessors cuz they don’t want their successors coming after them. Which supposes corruption at their core and unfortunately for democracy, who can argue reasonably the inverse?
Oh I hear you Suz, there’s a HUGE part of me that love’s the end of “pre-existing conditions” because of a personal feel. Sorry, but I’ll be honest. My niece, 19 years old, has been diagnosed with cancer and Type 1 diabetes. She’s on her mothers insurance plan now, but is basically, in today’s environement, not insurable. So I’ve struggled too. Believe me.
The bottom line, for me, is I think ALL AMERICANS, no matter their age, race, sex, religion, creed, whatever, should NOT SUFFER ECONOMICALLY when the suffer physically. Period. Health care is a RIGHT, not a privelage. So, whatever gets us closer to that reality is what I support. And IMO, this bill, the bill that passed the House, doesn’t get us closer. It delays it. But that’s just my opinion. YMMV.
But we don’t own the Senate or the House……we can’t guarantee 60 votes at all in the Senate. We can’t control the blue dogs in the house. It’s a shell game.
i’m in favor of universal health care for all. a single payer system. this bill is no where near to what i want. but… i guess i’ll have to wait and see what it ends up to be before i make up my mind.
Very respectfully, if the Majority Leader had half a pair, he would have the Republicans begging for mercy. But he does not. But his insistence in ‘comity’ and Obama’s insistence in befriending all those who would put a legislative knife in his back (from both parties) is why we can not get one thing done.
But now he has his tit in the wringer, and he CHOSE the time and place.
Sink the bill and he is gravely wounded. Get a compromise of a compromise, and another 15 years goes by before we get another shot.
Edit: It is like Iraq – there are no good options, just a lineup of shit sanswiches.
and yet i think this fight would be twice as hard had hillary won the nomination and the general. (edit) and we would not be having this discussion at all if mccain had won.
Suzanne get a depression light now that the sun is so far South. Bright lights can be mood elevating. Sorry that you lost your medical with the force. No one should be uncovered. I just got qualified for CenCal and have gor free glasses and eye exam from veterans in LA. Downside is I have mild cataracts I was told by a wonderful young lady optometrist who did the exam and fitted me for two pair of glasses. So veterans service and being poverty level has some upsides.
Yeah, I hinted at that in my first posts tonight. I’m feeling down, too. I really think you may be right. And it’s pretty fucking depressing. Hope you’re not as depressed as I am Dearie.
The republican party has a well oiled machine. It made Carter, and Clinton look foolish, they were not, they were trying to bring us forward. Let us not be the same ignorant people who fall for the arguments of palin, lympball, and fox. We can build on what Obama has started.
unclynard
Could be.
I still have to ask – If Obama wanted a good bill, why do it now, when he had less room to maneuver (wrecked economy, etc.)?
He could have tabled HC and not spent the political capital on a battle he knew damned well he would lose, or he forged it through because he wanted to lock it up, no matter how odious, so he could cement the corporate support?
I’m old….and I’m pissed….and I’m depressed. I followed the rules, saved up, deferred gratification…you know, all that stuff. For what? Worked for Obama and saw him waffle and cave and smile and whatever. I’m so over it!
I think Jane needs to be on the phone to Trumka and her other union friends who appear on this blog and get major marches organized. We could have tens of millions of people protesting banksters and Wall St’s ownership of this country. You don’t give the criminal MSM the chance to ignore that scope of gathering-just like we didn’t give the Rovians the chance to fix the last election. We overwhelmed them at the polls (despite the media reporting only a 53% majority.
Whatever else the blogosphere wants to do is fine. Jan is brilliant. But if there is no mega march, we will wake up in 2012 in 1984. And that is not exaggerating.
Seriously Broke…the legislature will pass it again they are waiting for his Exodus. We have a huge and growing homeless population. Our local food bank runs out of food every week.
My pension is actually with Ohio PERS….god knows what I have to work with. My dad will be 92 tomorrow — he lived through the Great Depression and now he’s seeing another one….he’s not a happy camper either, but as a lifelong Republican, he’s having a hard time dealing with the reality of what this country has become….banana republic anyone?
uncle leonard — which she? if you are responding to a particular comment, there is a link at the bottom right of each comment that says reply. click on it and our system prefills in the info so we all know who ya are replying to.
It’s last gasp time. I don’t know how many citizens recognize it. That’s why I say it and write it every day to someone or on some post.
This country would already be lost if not for a (very) few heroes like Jane, Marcy, Seymore Hirsch, Joe Wilson, Amy Goodman, General Odom, Keith and only a few others who had the extreme courage to speak out against Nazi-like intimidation.
Night all. Time at the Lake is comforting. And the drive to Santa Barbara tomorrow will be as glorious as ever and the surfers will still be seeking the perfect wave and I’m not homeless or foodless. Small comforts that comfort me.
Do you live in CA? I ask cause I wonder if rational folks don’t often want to throw things or break things. I mean, the VOTERS voted for most, if not all, of the shit that is breaking California.
I wish I was wrong. But I’m not. People are being tossed out of their homes and jobs, and are now starving. People are thisclose to taking things into their own hands to survive and have their families survive.
The only good news there is it can be channeled into a cause if we have strong leadership. But we don’t have time to tarry.
i agree that bad things are happening that should not happen. that we don’t have the time to tarry. but i still have hope that things can be fixed and america what she is supposed to be. i have to have that hope that i — we — can still effect the change that is needed.
Wow. Didn’t know that at ALL! Well, as far as I’m concerned (AFAIC) you’re still AWESWOME. You and I will probably disagree more than agree, but that’s OK too. Although to be honest (TBH) I still think you’ve got the best links. That really hurts to say that a lifelong Republican has all the best links. Sucks actually. Can’t believe I typed that actually. Oh well, glad it’s 4 AM in the morning. That’s my excuse.
*laughing* i never voted a party line — and didn’t see much different between the r’s and the d’s — voted for whom i thought would do the best job. i’ve always been a socially liberal fiscally conservative voter — sorta the kinda john lindsay (new york) republican.
does the fact my girls say i’m an old hippie help any?
bout time for me to head out folks. thanks for all the discussions tonight.
unka leonard — ya gotta visit here more often. during the late nite and late late night threads we tend to let our hair down and destress from the battles of the day. gotta unwind so we can fight on again in the morning.
g’nite all — off to the dentist tomorrow but will be back thurs (i have a good one in store for my late late night post).
TGINFB!
Hey Suz!
hey newton — how’s the bay area tonight?
Nice here. But you don’t want to hear that. You’re expecting some weather up there, I am told.
not as bad as yesterday. getting another one in tomorrow. last night pacific city (about 5 miles south of me on the other side of cape lookout) had a gust of 89 and garabaldi (about 5 miles north of me at the north end of tillamook bay) had a gust of 95. tomorrow’s a piece of cake in comparison.
CHILI…
apple pie! hey nahant — how ya doing? you feeling better?
Hiya Pups,
Geez — I couldn’t link from Lisa to LLN without doing three logins — must be me.
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
Hi gang. I heard about some religious t-shirts/bumpers/teddybears with provocative scripture references. On Rachel a commenter said, “Trawling for assassins.” Too true. Sad how far off track the right has strayed.
Hey y’all, I hace a cold and feel like crap. I’m waiting for hte cough syrup to kick in so I don’t keep J up all night.
hey dearie — how’s so central coast of ca tonight? i saw that segment on rachel — the psalms tshirts and teddy bears.
High 40′s to possible 50′s. Sunny, beautiful and all leaves in huge piles everywhere. We are thinking Thanksgiving at home and work. I’m blogging at work:
http://library.clevelandart.org/blog/
hey that guy — ugh. fingers and toes crossed it stays just a cold dood.
Sure am Suz and how are you doing?? Staying warm and dry/
winds blew a lot of the color of the trees. when i head into town tomorrow (dentist — more tweaking of the molds and impressions for the upper plate) i’m sure there will be a lotta nude trees where there used to be color :(
I saw that, Dearie.
I don’t know if Frank Schaeffer is trying to scare the Hell out of us, or just sell a ton of books, or both. But his last two Maddow appearances have been frightening, and he knows these people like they were once family. Because they were.
They seem to be spooling up.
feel better thatguy
yup — gary the wood guy brought a bunch today and stacked it up next to the stove.
Central Coast is gorgeous. Surfers are still having fun. But, wow, the phrase “Trawling for assassins” just gave me chills. Truth hurts.
Cozy!!
tis 43 outside and 71 inside.
OMG, your poor mouth! I am so sympathetic, and I know I’m next! I keep picking up leaves, saying, “this is so beautiful” — best autumn ever.
Yeah, thanks newtonusr, it was Frank Schaeffer, and he just told it. The abortion provider assassins get wired by the evangelicals…..and the proverbs being alluded to just beg the crazies for action against Obama. Shameful. And not at all Jesus-like.
brrrrrrrrrrrr it is in the 40′s here shouldn’t too much colder..I hope
Sick of watching the f’ing asshole ads against healthcare reform that are doing nothing to change opinions, just flushing precious premium dollars that could actually be used on someone who is ill.
/end rant
naw — the molds are easy. no sharp metal objects — just various trays with various molding mediums to get the fit exactly as it should be. i think dr a is a perfectionist — a good trait in a dentist who also makes dentures.
Trawling for assassins, scared the pants off me — not that I had not been saying that myself.
hey tbsa — i know. i’ve taken to keeping a basket of rolled up socks next to my chair to toss at the fuckers.
MrCE had new front teeth made last summer. Very interesting visits with dentists regarding color, shape, etc. Good heavens, it took months! But he looks great!
Hey Suz… good idea.
dr t (the traveling dentist who does the complicated extractions) said dr a made dr t’s mother in law’s upper plate and it looks and fits perfect. its important to have a smile
What really got me is that while I know that’s what the wingnuts are about, as a fisherperson it was the wording that just got me “Trawling for assassins.” Just so visceral.
to clarify — the socks get tossed — not the basket
hey guys…I’m hoping someone more clever than me will make a vid of Obama doing the Bend…and snap!
his fright was as startling as his frankness of speech.
Yes it is — I should look for MrCE’s photo on his book flap — question was : smile with teeth? smile without teeth?
hey dosido — how ya been?
I said, quietly, oh shit!
betcha any future covers are a smile with teeth.
hi suz, it be chilly here.
I was thinking of Late Nite, since I recited the mammogram song earlier today. I heard it first here!
He did love that whitening solution!
And for me, if Rachel Maddow is buying in, I am less likely to be skeptical of Schaeffer’s unease.
I don’t see him as self-serving. He brought these people to life and then to power (along with his father Francis), and he wears a lot of guilt, from his messaging.
brrrr seems to be what most of us are having in common tonight.
I cautiously agree. But I’ll add that he does give off the marketing vibe…kind of like he used to work for Coke, now he’s all about Seven Up. But he does know the competition inside and out!
when she intro’d him tonight i thought to myself… rachel has found her new pat buchanan for her show.
I bet you’re right.
Hey Suze, do you have contact with other front pagers? I saw an article just a few minutes ago about a student protest movement (spanning years) winning a battle with Russell Athletics over their factories in Honduras. It was a really interesting read and I wondered if Tula would grace us with her insights…
Whatever about Schaeffer…….he said something that just rings true…..trawling for assassins. Just as it has happened with abortion doctor killers, with other whackadoodles who follow the evangelical/catholic/wingnut line…..just stir them up and watch what happens. Trawl. Scared me some.
I half hear that. But instead of being a semi-reasonable clown for her to whack away at with facts and logic, he presents as 100% converted, that he woke up one morning and realized that he had a hand in creating a monster, and owed the country both an unfettered look at it’s making, and the danger it represents.
i do… what’s the link
Has he called out Stupak yet? Or that the dems are not immune to Real American Fundamentalism?
cool, brb with the link.
Suze, I’m working from home tomorrow, and probably for the rest of the week. I need to work but being in the orifice didn’t do a thing for me. I needed my couch so I could nap when I needed to.
Only three days of work next week, and I’m sleeping the weekend away. We’re doing a turkey breast for TG, not a whole bird. It’s just the two of us and there are only so many turkey sandwiches we’re willing to eat. ;)
Smoked turkey breast is nectar of the gods. >:-D
Labor Fight Ends with Win for Students
a good plan dood. i’m headed over the coast range into beaverton where jen (the bride) will be preparing her first thanksgiving dinner. weather permitting of course. i did not use my chains at all last winter and i plan on a repeat performance this winter.
thanks dosido
I sure hope you brined that Turkey… We just had a 12lb’er tonight… White meat was so succulent … Ya gotta try it and then smoke it or roast as we did tonight..
As much as I would love to see him call out Stupak, his ‘mission’ isn’t against Fundamentalists, but against the vocal, violent and bloodthirsty fringe of the movement who really act like they want to go medieval on the Republic for electing ‘one of those.’
de nada. It’s not often that the underdogs score a major TD.
Get her a smoker for Xmas. She will thank you until the end of time.
Smoked turkey – once you’ve had it, you’ll never go back. Ain’t that right, Nahant?
Sure and Do you really think Mother Nature will listen or care what you say??
ah. he’s focussed.
sorry I missed Rachel tonight. I don’t have command of the telly very often. sigh.
i’m not sure if her hubby bbq’s or not… hmmmm
i can only cross my fingers and toes and hope mother nature smiles on the drive over there and back.
The breast I saw was pre-brined for my convenience. There’s only the two of us and the cats, and they don’t really like turkey.
Probably make seafood chowder that weekend. Shrimp, clams, mussell, crab, lobster, scallops.
We gotta have a Cajun cook sometime. I make good etouffee.
oh it is sure good but for a 16 or larger take about 18 to 20 hours… but well worth it for sure… especially if ya brined it for a day or two..
LOL, I was going to recommend cioppino.
Also, you just know this is going to be broadcast over the blogosphere on T Day, so I’ll be the early bird.
It’s interesting to get other people’s take on him. I am a recovering PK and so am a little jaded. I guess he is too!
Jambalaya and Gumbo of all types, Red Beans and Rice..oohh and some blacked steak.. I can’t go on…
Exactly. While I don’t agree with the anti-choice people, I allow that they may come from a real place….in their thinking. But they don’t go out and shoot doctors, you know? It’s when you take the fringe and get them riled up that bad things happen. And I think what he was saying is that the wingers are digging, trawling for the crazies to act out for them.
my former neighbor, n, used to say that it wasn’t a holiday unless there was fresh cooked crab.
i really miss living next door to them (laughing).
Yeah, we have an serious anti choicer in our area. Drives a truck with the big nasty posters etc.
He’s insane. If abortion didn’t provide a platform for his brand of crazy, he’d find something else…he hates women.
it really all does come down to the hate. no matter the excuse they use, it is about their hatred of others.
Hence the panicky, frenetic pacing perhaps.
thanks newt, I’ll check it out. I’ve been meaning to read his book too.
sorry, have to go now. have a nice snuggy warm evening!
g’nite dosido — stay warm

hey emerson — how’s the east bay tonight?
Have a great time, Suz.
Thanks Suz. Have a great night.
hey margot — how ya doing tonight?
nite pups eyes are getting droopy..
hey bb — good to hear from ya again. glad to hear you are doing so good.
You youngsters have all the energy.
Quiet at my house Suz. My directv receiver stopped working last night and I won’t have a replacement until Friday.
It taught me how anti…quated TV is now. You can pretty much get everything you want to see via computer.
How you?
There was a storefront church downtown here with huge windows full of awful photos like that,
put up only during Sen. Kerry’s campaign visit in 2004.
And as to Thanksgiving…..well, yum….and though there has been a certain ‘re-informing’ about the purpose of the day, for me and mine it is a fine time to just hunker down and be thankful for each other and for whatever good things have happened for any of us during the year. And smoked turkey is fabulous!
thanks ofg — tis a grand song and i love the strings accompanying them. good to see ya again.
g’nite nahant — stay warm
Enticing people to break the law is a crime that they should be charged with.
i’m staying warm and mellow inside and don’t let the storms tweak me. nice buncha hail just got dumped on the deck. i love how it is always changing up here.
I’m fine Suz, sounds like you’re getting snugged up for the duration. Don’t forget to get some Bailey’s. ;)
Hate and anger are self-destructing emotions that have life changing karma. We practice breathing out those thought and breathing in prana (energy). Hard to be happy when your angry.
i get the cheap imitation baileys :) tis a fine drink on a cold damp night indeed
i wonder what the vegas odds makers have decided the line is on the health care bill harry presents tomorrow. and how long before harry caves like he always does.
if ya dont let go of those negative emotions they fester and poison ya from the inside out.
Well, as far as Harry caving, if the health care bill is presented at 10:00 AM, put me in the pool for 10:01 AM. Although I might be late.
hey wigwam — how ya doing?
heh! i figure he will cave in time for the evening news in dc
Doing great, thanks. But falling behind in keeping up with what’s going on.
So, how are you doing? More excellent sounds you’ve provided. Thanks.
Now he is universally loathed by his former flock, and accorded healthy skepticism by us.
and hey
gonna be interesting to see the entire biden video at comedy central. he’s coming across as very honest and up front about stuff.
But curious as to the late night folks.
thanks wigwam
i’m waiting to see what the final bill is. then i’ll decide if i can support it or not.
*rubbing hands together gleefully*
tomorrow nite lou dobbs will be in the studio with jon stewart
mwahahahaha
For real?? He’s gonna be on Daily Show??
75 or 96?
is what jon said as he closed his show tonight
I can’t decide.
Got all my teeth repaired caps in front for smiles two years most fillings replaced. I have an Sonicare vibrating tooth brush…look out plaque. Do the maintenance or pay the price in pain, time and money.
I don’t think it will have a real PO, so I don’t want a bad bill passed. Stupido’s amendament won’ta be ina there.
Are you an attorney? If so amicus brief for superior court from available anywhere? Always nice to see you around here.
Yes.
So I can’t decide.
my pleasure dood. all my vinyl (and most of my digital) is still in the pod at the portland pod house. i’m spending a lotta time in the utubes (ahem) researching songs for late late nite :)
Watched SICKO last Sunday night…Micheal Moore has the laundry list of healthcare…just make it equal to the Eurpeans and Canada and get out of Medevil medicine. Hi Dearie we chili up here.
that’s my story and i’m sticking to it
Hey wait a minute officer your union supposed to get you medical benefits what happened?
medical only for retirees. lost my dental and my vision coverage.
Oh yeah, and the country implodes.
Stop playing Hoover and play FDR.
A friend mother lives in Mexico she gets a dental visit for $5.00 and she is having the full mouth repair there on the very cheap. Take a vaction.
there is a part of me who agrees and then there is a part of me thinking about those the health care bill in its final form will help. what that level of help is and the when etc will help me decide if the pro’s outweigh the con’s or the con’s outweigh the pro’s.
Second thought you are closer to Canada.
I agree with you. And, frankly, I don’t much care about Obama anymore.
at the time i hardly had the money to eat much less take a vacation. the estimate for the work in mexico (very general) was around $2500. my choices were eat or not eat for two years to pay for the teeth.
Sorry if I’ve been an ass.
Completely.
i don’t think ya came across as an ass at all — you expressed your concerns just as the rest of us did. tis a sophie’s choice kinda thing we are looking at having to make.
Can’t argue with that.
Then let’s play the song to the end – What IF Obama gets his bill?
Assume it is constituted as it is now, minus the Stupak language…
What is the next step for us?
Or put another way, WWJHD?
i’m in favor of universal health care for all. a single payer system. this bill is no where near to what i want. but… i guess i’ll have to wait and see what it ends up to be before i make up my mind.
Yeah, it is hard Suz. Thanks. That’s kinda why I asked. I’m questioning myself too, TBH.
Damn this whole thing is so hard.
Obama didn’t give a shit about health care…..he never stood up for anything. The Dems are as bought as the Repukes. We are screwed. Get used to it.
And there would have been nothing with McCain/Palin. But, still, Obama promised much…..and his bipartisan whoop-di-do is just empty rhetoric.
i did not lose my medical. just the dental and the vision. i am not feeling any SAD effects or symptoms.
He could have tabled HC and not spent the political capital on a battle he knew damned well he would lose, or he forged it through because he wanted to lock it up, no matter how odious, so he could cement the corporate support?
i went back in and edited that in.
after 8 years of boosh/darth i don’t think our country can be put back together again in 4 short years.
but a lot can be accomplished — if they want to. the question for me is does obama want to.
I’m old….and I’m pissed….and I’m depressed. I followed the rules, saved up, deferred gratification…you know, all that stuff. For what? Worked for Obama and saw him waffle and cave and smile and whatever. I’m so over it!
hey uncle leonard — how ya doing tonight?
and yes that really is my uncle leonard — my mom’s brother. got family in da lake tonight :)
Welcome to the Big House, Uncle Leonard!
Now, that really IS fun!
The states may pick up some slack. California has a bill that will pass when Arnold exits he vetoed it twice. SB810
Unique measures are indicated.
ah-nold will veto it for a third time. is what he does best — look out for his corporate masters.
how’s the weather in ga uncle leonard?
California is broke.
Last month at the Art Tour I spoke with an Orange County Financial Planner. He said we have no idea how badly broken the financial system is.
AWESOME GIRL!!!! Let’s all have a family drink. All together.. one… two…three…. DOWN THE HATCHES!!!
LOL. Welcome to the Lake !!!!
Hi Uncle Leonard! (I’m usually much more fun at parties.)
i’m so glad i’m not in ca anymore. at least up here i can afford the basics on my pension. but i sure as hell worry about that CALPERS pension…
California is fucked.
The ignorance she displayed in these last few days makes me afraid of the following she has in the country i live in.
It is like the depression for a lot we are creating an economic caste system.
Yep. And when the scramble starts, when everyone runs for cover, we know who will be warm and fed, and who will be cold and hungry.
uncle leonard — which she? if you are responding to a particular comment, there is a link at the bottom right of each comment that says reply. click on it and our system prefills in the info so we all know who ya are replying to.
*shivering* i know which class i’m in
It’s last gasp time. I don’t know how many citizens recognize it. That’s why I say it and write it every day to someone or on some post.
This country would already be lost if not for a (very) few heroes like Jane, Marcy, Seymore Hirsch, Joe Wilson, Amy Goodman, General Odom, Keith and only a few others who had the extreme courage to speak out against Nazi-like intimidation.
i hear ya. i was a lifelong republican until this year. the republican party left me before i left them.
I mean, the VOTERS voted for most, if not all, of the shit that is breaking California.
i don’t know if it that dire. yet. i do know without our fighting we would be there.
g’nite dearie — hug the twin grandbabies for me
If palin looked like lympballs you would only have ignorant people listening to her. As it is you have ugly males, who can’t get laid, also.
WOW! First I remember seeing that. Are you serious??? A lifelong Republican???
same with my dad, who is 85. Banana republic is right, Dearie.
Hope you sleep well.
*laughing* ubetcha. those red pumps of hers certainly got a lotta attention in the lead up to the general.
yup — i used to joke that i was the token R at the lake.
LOL!
nite dearie
I don’t think we are done, but I think how long it will take to recover is directly proportional to how soon we can seize the reins again.
Remember our discussions about the draft? Re-institute the draft and wars suddenly end.
Why are you still wake young lady? Do I need to call you’re mom?
i agree that bad things are happening that should not happen. that we don’t have the time to tarry. but i still have hope that things can be fixed and america what she is supposed to be. i have to have that hope that i — we — can still effect the change that is needed.
uhhhhh you wanna wake up the little woman? at this time of night? without someone bleeding or other emergency?
i would triple dog dare ya but i like ya unka leonard :)
So uncle leonard, why did it take you so long to turn Suz into a lefty?
Say it aunt so
We knew her when…
*laughing* i never voted a party line — and didn’t see much different between the r’s and the d’s — voted for whom i thought would do the best job. i’ve always been a socially liberal fiscally conservative voter — sorta the kinda john lindsay (new york) republican.
does the fact my girls say i’m an old hippie help any?
OK Suz.
ya know — my mother — your sister — is to blame. she was an r (not any more) and my dad was a d…
that’s just me — and i admit i have been called pollyanna more than once.
bout time for me to head out folks. thanks for all the discussions tonight.
unka leonard — ya gotta visit here more often. during the late nite and late late night threads we tend to let our hair down and destress from the battles of the day. gotta unwind so we can fight on again in the morning.
g’nite all — off to the dentist tomorrow but will be back thurs (i have a good one in store for my late late night post).
me too
nite unka leonard
nite suz ( (((suz))) )
nite pups
