Agreed. The bow was a terrible mistake IMHO (see my comment above) but I do believe it was a misguided attempt at showing respect, etc.

One may be a progressive and still be dismayed when any POTUS – Republican or Democrat – bows before foreign monarchs. Americans DO NOT BOW to members of any royal family. Remember everyone… Revolution… Abolish the monarchy…. democracy…. coming back yet?

this kind of minute, laser guided analysis would have been helpful about 8 years ago when the supreme court appointed a drunk to the white house, who sat on his ass while planes crashed into buildings, promptly started two illegal wars, watched a city drown, and melted the financial sector.

Right-wingers are sissies. They talk big talk but all they really want is for Ronaldus Magnus to hug them and tell them everything is going to be okay. Pathetic little children. You meet them in a bar and see if they talk all arrogant. They’d hide behind their bucket of wings and hope nobody noticed their body odor.

Of course the Right would go ballistic about Obama bowing. Obama was being respectful to another human being — and respect is something right-wingers don’t know the first thing about.

In our top-down, rat race culture, it is almost impossible to imagine bowing as anything *other* than deference. But then again that says more about our culture than anything else. The world is much larger.
