Well, this seems ridiculous, though hardly surprising.
But in her new memoir, Going Rogue, Palin apparently writes that she doesn’t believe in evolution. New York Times reviewer Michiko Kakutani writes:
Elsewhere in this volume, she talks about creationism, saying she “didn’t believe in the theory that human beings — thinking, loving beings — originated from fish that sprouted legs and crawled out of the sea” or from “monkeys who eventually swung down from the trees.”
Palin’s not the only Republican with this ignorant viewpoint. By 2012, it will probably be the espoused viewpoint of every GOP candidate for President.
How is such ignorance tolerated in the body politic?
Ask David Broder:
It is evident from the length of this deliberative process and from the flood of leaks that have emerged from Kabul and Washington that the perfect course of action does not exist. Given that reality, the urgent necessity is to make a decision — whether or not it is right.
One of the two major parties, aided and abetted by the establishment media is decrying actually thinking about things. A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

About Firedoglake
For a fight or flight response a choice any choice is better than freezing up. For something as complex as Afghanistan well 8 years of failure says the Lizard Brain approach won’t work.
Ask David if he is willing to pay for the War with a Tax Increase? Millions for war but no way to pay for it nothing for HealthCare the GOP sucks!
Tell me does any Moderate voter who wants their kid to be a Doctor someday want Sarah editing school text books for Bible Correctness?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_and_the_Catholic_Church
The GOP knows that they are now to the Right of the Catholic Church and the current Pope is no Liberal. As a former Hitler Youth he has more Righty Cred than Pat Buchanan.
I think Sarah is exactly right. And David Broder is the living proof of the fact that human beings never evolved.
Let’s have a chorus for the illustrious Mr. Broder and our friends at the unsinkable Washington Post.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it has been a privilege singing with you this morning.
Thought is bad for republicans, the action that is unthinkable… oh, right.
Good morning, pups. It’s The Pasty Little Putz and Krugman today. The Pasty Little Putz has decided to address the economy on the same page as Prof. Krugman. They say fools rush in… In “Off the Chart” he gurgles that ten months ago Barack Obama’s economic advisers projected two scenarios for unemployment. Now reality has produced numbers of its own. Prof. Krugman, in “World Out of Balance,” says the problem of international trade imbalances is about to get substantially worse unless China changes its weak-currency policy.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I’m just beginning to realize that Thanksgiving is next week. It feels like it was just Labor Day. Of course, Thanksgiving means it’s time to start Christmas cookie production… Have a great day.
Joe is flabbergasted that Pat Leahey would compare Timothy McVeigh to KSM.
“We didn’t even afford SOUTHERNS these rights”!
Marion, around these parts Thanksgiving signals the beginning of the Christmas tamale production. The best part of Christmas, IMO, not being a believer, and all.
It is also pretty clear, if one can understand foreign policy by seeing Russia from one’s front porch, that the world is flat.
An American extremist republican that commits an act of terrorism can not possibly be compared to foriegn extremist that commits a similar act. That’s just silly. If you are a hopeless fucking idiot like joe.
I can’t even check in with that show any more because it is so void of reality it scrambles my already marginal brain.
Good morning all and thanks for the post, Attaturk.
Holiday food/goodie production is part of the best any holiday has to offer. Every year my “favorite cookie” is subject to change…
So I guess in this she agrees with The Moustache of Wisdom? Oh, wait — she probably means it literally. Never mind…
Green Corn!
Krugman points out that like the wingers, the Chinese are recommending policies that would beggar our workers – something that the worst administration ever already did, to the impoverishment of the entire world.
Simple equation; a consumer economy fails when the consumer is beggared.
Big sales of turkeys here. Thanksgiving is going to be slim for a lot of folks, time to make contributions to the food banks wherever you are.
I wonder what Obama wants from China?
Mostly that it is dish washer safe
politicians claiming they don’t believe in evolution is a clear statement;
“we will change our very principles in to keep the ignorant voting for us”
democrats better understand they MUST exploit both their position and their integr;ity
when the pope himself tells us evolution is not inconsistatnt with the bible and a democrat doesn’t use that against a politition pandering the most ignorant among us, that democrat shouldn’t be running for office, I give them position to use the following without credit;
“I happen to believe in my heritage, my religion and god, just as I believe god created the light, it’s simple to see he did that with the sun
and just as I believe god created life and man, it’s simple to see he did that with evolution, a thousand years is a bling in gods eye and a day to him is hardly a day to us”
stuff like that is simple for those democrats who want to take both sides, simple stuff here
He’s been left with no choice in the matter, we have to keep them from ‘calling’ our note.
and it’s so simple expanding the workers, you simply add the tariff to products (not countries but comanies) who pay anything but living wage
we could even intercept the national retribution by doing it to companies stateside as well as overseas, and american companies stateside and overseas as well
that would send a clear and equal handed message
Morning all. Does this mean that the world isn’t going to end Dec 21, 2012. *g*
ps
I believe something we haven’t looked at is a “social security tax” for imported products that don’t have living wages or allow for child and slave labor, that allow for polluting and warming the planet
that would solve alot of problems right there;
most americans do not want our jobs going overseas, if we added an actual “social security tax” to foreign products in addition to the sales tax, a person would understand the price they pay for exporting our labor
I believe that right there is the ticket, a seperate tax telling us why it’s there and where it’s going
if the mayan god told them something the christian/judaic/muslim god did not tell us, that would make the mayan god the “king of kings”
interesting that
doesn’t there economy collapse if they call our note too?
here’s an example;
my friend took out equity loans again and again against his house, he took out far more loans then his house was ever worth, even in the best of times
the banks still gave him the money even though they knew the asset was worth a fraction of that money
now he simply does not pay his mortgage and the bank cannot foreclose because nobody would buy the home in these times and the property would devolve in value if it wasn’t maintained
they have to wait till the economy is healthy before they even attempt calling their note
I believe we have the same situation here
Sarah Palin frightens me. Never underestimate the gullibility and stupidity of the average American voter and their consistent behavior in voting against their own best interests. For proof I offer Reps. Joe Wilson , Virginia Fox and Sens. Coburn and Inhofe. Stir in the dismal per-
formance of our Democratic majority in the House and Senate and the re-
luctance of the White House to show any evidence of a spine and we have a catastrophe in the making.
If China says to us “we will pay our workers a living wage if you will cease spending bazillions of dollars killing people all over the bloody world so that you can pay your debt to us” do you think that USA Co. would go along?
Thank you, Stony Pillow! I’ve always wondered how that song went!
I’m preparing for Latke Season by making and freezing a big batch of applesauce today. However, the concept of the Holiday Tamale is MOST seductive!
Well an economic collapse is cheaper than fighting a war with us and less radioactive. They would be hurt too but less than us.
I call this proposal a ‘business license/tax’, to do business in our economy you have to support the economy by your own practices.
And yes, ‘calling’ our note would have consequences, but if we press too hard, can happen.
Then there’s no need for antibiotics next time someone in her family is sick.
It’s the Official Anthem of 19th Century Fail. Which makes it fitting indeed for David Broder.
“Why, oh why will not our President Take up the White Man’s burden? Do something, do anything, the Wogs are restless!” It makes no more sense than when Kipling was praising our conquest of the Phillipines a hundred and ten years ago.
That column is a clinical record of Broder’s smoking, sputtering synapses — quite possibly the most senseless and malicious thing he has written in his squalid career. I am pleased he will go down with the good ship WaPo.
The WaPo is in trouble?
A request: Would someone please provide the full sentence quote(s) for me?
” …didn’t believe in the theory that human beings — thinking, loving beings — originated from fish that sprouted legs and crawled out of the sea… ” or from “ … monkeys who eventually swung down from the trees.”
Thank you so much, I can’t afford to buy the book and won’t have library records showing my interest!
European nations suggested a tax on traded investments, say a penny per share (or other investment form) for buyer and seller. It would produce trillions (although there might be less trading than there is today) but Geithner opposed it. If governments are going to be the house for this casino, they should get a piece of the action. I don’t know if Geithner had Obama’s blessing. If he didn’t he should be fired. That’s Obama’s problem. He can’t seem to make up his mind. If he’s waiting for someone to propose a reasonable exit strategy for Afghanistan, good luck to him. The only reasonable exit strategy is to get out as quickly as possible.
She is breached, good sir, and slipping under the waves. And the good figurehead David Broder, ty’d to his La-Z-Boy and bolted to the prow, is in the drink up to his knees. Either he knows not his fate, or he is too delirious to care overmuch.
thanks to Fred Hiatt;
‘The Washington Post’s average daily circulation dropped 6.4 percent in the six months that ended Sept. 30, ‘

Swim is upstairs…
yup
we can call it rent, and they can get rent form us too…in this manner each respective country has an interest in a local economy, supporting their populace
nice
my point is, if we actually attach that tax to social security we will know where it goes, the amount that’s collected and where it is invested
one thing I agree with the republicans, there is some waste in government projects, if we are transparent, where the revenue goes, where it is invested and the returns on those investments people would be much less likely to ask for “tax cuts”
yup, countries are “the house” and “the house” needs vig, that’s a great analogy
Broder is a real piece of work. Don’t think, just act. Must explain the vomit that he puts into the Post on a regular basis.
Believing that something is true is easy enough. And it can be far, far removed from actually being able to demonstrate that it is true. You simply believe it is.
Thus, Palin believes in creationism. End of story. If she believes it then, for her, it’s true.
If pressed, she can fall back on the tautology of religion:
Creationism is true. Why? Because it says so in the Bible. Why is the Bible true? Because it is the word of God. Why is it the word of God? Because it says so in the Bible.
Around and around the True Believers go.
But Broder comes a lot closer to the, uh, truth? There is no “perfect course of action”. There are only the consequences of action that favor some more than others.
