As an Iowan what can I say about Steve King, the inexplicably elected four
times Republican from the 5th District (Northwest Iowa)?
Well, “I’m sorry” for a start and an “but I don’t live in that part of the state” as an excuse.
In order to stay in Washington, D.C. and vote against a bill he knew would end up passing — just so he could get his mug on TV a few more times using the bill itself to litter it around the capitol building — he blew off a wedding — his son’s wedding.
Now that’s good parenting! Thanks, Dad of the Year. You love your son enough to miss the most important day of his life, so you can be a douchebag. A-W-E-S-O-M-E!
Most telling is the response of his family…
“No one in this family asked me to reconsider.”
I can certainly understand why.

Good thing it’s not a daughter– whom would she give her purity ring to?
In Illinois, ours are more crooked, but less nasty. Palin/King 2012.
And then there is Georgia!
One could have asked him if he would have made the same decission if it had been a funeral.
But that would be in bad taste, no need to muddy political discourse any further.
Morning all, Well it is veterans day. As a veteran, I don’t think I ever had a veterans day off my entire working life.
Not sure but that Hoestetler(sp) isn’t the bigger joke. Friday he was whining that he hadn’t been briefed by the CIA about the Hassan saga. Then missed the Monday briefing.
The link at “using the bill itself” goes to a NYT article on Blackwater, FYI. Not sure that’s what you intended…
Nope, me neither. When I started at the University of Illinois, 10 days out of the Nam in 69, I was in a class in the Armory where they had a ceremony but class was still in session. It’s been downhill from there!
That is HOEKSTRA
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd and Friedman today. MoDo’s medication adjustment seems to have worked. In “Virtuous Bankers? Really!?!” she says the saying used to be, whatever happens, the lawyers win. But with bankers getting obscene bonuses again, now it’s whatever happens, the bankers win. The Moustache of Wisdom, in “Trucks, Trains and Trees,” says without a new system for economic development in the timber-rich tropics, the only Amazon your grandchildren will ever know ends in dot-com and sells books.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got apple cranberry muffins today. Thanks for your service to all veterans out there, from someone who’s old enough to remember when today was still Armistice Day. Have a great day.
Oops, thanks for catching that. Should be fixed.
For those who didn’t notice, that’s Hoekstra in the background of the picture holding the wads of paper for King in the foreground.
A real “braintrust” those two are.
Mensa meeting on the steps!
Veteran and gettin ready to leave for work. Never had one off.
Good morning all and thanks for the grin this morning, Attaturk. Steve King is a dick but Hoekstra is a special kind of stupid. Whine about not being briefed and then skip the breifing. Asshole.
This is what happens when kids get an F in kindergarten and get passed on anyway.
Guess it’s good to have a job.
“Steve King”. It’s Iowegian for
“Dick”“little dick”.Fixed it for you!
Speaking of complete moran-ishness…
Have fun working on a Howard Wolfson-led campaign (again for some of y’all). Ned Lamont just hired him:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/governors/wolfson-to-lamont.html
Wolfson almost lost the mayoral campaign for Shorty Bloomberg, and that after his epic fail on the Hillary Clinton campaign. Go Ned!1!
Ah object! Ah object! Ah object! Will the gentleladies yield?
And that’s just one of them.
Steve King won my undying contempt by supporting horse slaughter, saying it would help our blance of payments.
Went to the Vietnam memorial on Monday, veterans all about but since there’s a big speakers stand in front of it, impossible to get good pics even in the great fall colors. Then I visited my senators to support health care, see diary http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/edit/14171
google “Mike Royko Veteran’s Day Column”
I’d do so but don’t want to link to the probably right wing site where you’ll find it but it is a classic
Short version: Veteran’s should be the only ones with the day off and allowed to lay around, scratch themselves anytime and where, play cards, drink shots, smoke cigars, etc.
As a veteran, I thought it was a great idea
Followed your link and screen came up saying ACCESS DENIED you are not able to edit diaries of others
sorry, that’s http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/14171
They do that every year, it’s part of the ceremony.
At least he didn’t hire Bob “9 losses and 0 wins” Shrum.

What a nice day….my best trip to the memorial was at night….you get an incredible feel in the walk.
Atta. is so subtle….I missed the headline at an earlier read. Had to be awake;)) Good Morning, All. Weather beautiful here…Central TX.
By the way, how soon before Arianna Huffington gets assaulted because someone thinks she sounds like Al Qaeda?
-G
The Holocost Museum shooter was named James Von Brunn. Sounds Austrian to me. We need to check Austrians for their Nazi affiliations. Oh wait being a nazi is OK.
I’m more concerned that if Greek-guys with thick beards equal Al Qaeda it’ll be very very bad for Zach Galifianakis’s career.
I have never had the day off either. I still fit into my uniform, though, so that’s something.
I grew up in Council Bluffs, IA, which is the largest city in Steve King’s CD. On a recent trip back I asked my relatives (I have a huge extended family, first cousins in the high double digits) if they voted for King. Only one out of about 60 even knew who he was. The one that knew him hated him and said he never publicly campaigns in the area only private church teas by invitation only. So he has the bible thumpers locked up.
King’s base is the Dutch Reformed community in Northwest Iowa. They are to the right of him.
” he blew off a wedding — his son’s wedding.”
to pose with the health care bill he hates, thats passed beyond his ability to do anything about it. this guy is like, lord god king douchebag.
I lived in Iowa for 40 years and was and am ashamed to see our “leaders” like King and Grassley sell out the public – although I now live in Kentucky, and have to deal with McConnell, Bunning, and Blue Dog Ben Chandler. Sheesh.
I’d say this worked out pretty well for the groom.
Shorter King: They didn’t want me there so much anyway.
