Thanks for your hard work, Elliott. Today the battlefield is pretty strewn with gore, but its time to get what we can that’s good out of the health care advances (not loot the bodies). Thanks go out to the folks here who have worked so hard to get this far. They’re going to need our continuing support and help.
Jayson Blair?!
Well, I guess if Judith Miller can do talk shows…
Thanks Miz Elliott.
Power Player of the week, Jayson Blair, Former NY Times Reporter
Oh my.
chris matthews is all about the independents leaving Dems, showing townhall uglies as lead-off, then unemployment. Uses panel to show health care counterproductivity – big question; did public buy Obama’s progressive agenda when bought him?
Sully; gotta tackle the fiscal issues, make cuts – leaves the emptyhandedness of right starkly evident. Tweety back to healthcare, the spooked moderates(bluedoggies) and the damage.
Heileman, Parker think health care can still fall apart
Center and base and push for jobs program a bad fit, all agreeing.
Sully; Afghanistan withdrawal will help. Stunner effect on the panel.
Tweety switches to SNL clips of Perot.
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Friedman, Kristof and Rich this morning. For reasons best known to herself MoDo has decided to play film buff/historian today. In “Ballet’s Mean Streets” she fizzes that “The Red Shoes,” a classic 1948 film directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, is a gorgeously haunting work of art. One wonders if they dragged out one of her “anytime” columns they have in the can while they’re adjusting her medications… The Moustache of Wisdom, in “Call White House, Ask for Barack,” says until the Palestinians and Israelis are serious about the peace process, the United States should get out of the picture. Mr. Kristof addresses food safety in “Something Scary in the Pantry.” He says bisphenol A, or BPA, is linked to things like cancer, obesity, attention deficit disorder and genital abnormalities, and it’s been found in our food. Mr. Rich, in “The Night They Drove the Tea Partiers Down,” says Democrats need to realize they appear overly sympathetic to fat-cat bankers, particularly because Republicans may not self-destruct.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry ricotta pancakes this morning. I’ll probably actually watch Press the Meat today because Rachel is on, but if I miss it I’ll be sure to catch The Bobblespeak Translations tomorrow for a concise recap. Have a great day.
Nice, Marion, and does the M. of W. tell us how to get out of the ME?
sorry, on with Chris Matthews show;
Tweety goes on to talk about nutzoids, Sully thinks is reaction to 8 yrs of wing control, frustration now venting on Obama, with social hatred beneath too. Killing the veneer of a … Sully.
NY 23d brought into play, panel wants to avoid the ugliness.
populism’s ugly face, Heileman; could work dismally to advantage, bring up the active base.
Tweety; good thing or bad? Panel; defines progressives to their advantage. But anger will grow, Obama v Beck
Sully; wars, economy, no idea what’s coming.
Kathleen Parker pov ascribed to ‘what she hears’; media is at fault for the ugly ads, for giving them publicity
Is there a complete brain amongst the various guests and roundtable folks on ABC’s This Week?
No, I didn’t think so either.
Half a brain would be stretching it, but then one Geo Will is about a minus 50% all by itself.
I’m noticing a pattern at FoxNews. They hire people who have been disgraced and can’t get jobs anywhere (Imus, Oliver North, Geraldo). I would think this makes them perfect candidates to say/do whatever they’re asked to say/do.
Matthews: Hysterical SNL clip of Ross Perot…..then, uggg, John Voight from Fri. Teaparty….
Rage at O b/c of last 8 years of Bush….ruining Conservatism….great.
Sully is feeling his patterns challenged, can’t associate with the crazies. This is making it tough to continue promoting economic deprivation of the needy, how sad. /s
Morning all. Once again thanks Elliott.
What time does football start?
Good morning Elliott & everyone.
I have a new cat, a street cat from NYC. Her name is Cahnstance C. (for Cat) Cahn, and she’s a sweety. She’s still getting used to the house. I just arrived with her at 8pm last night.
Welcome, Cahning street cat. Have I ever mentioned the Handbook For Getting Inside that I am sure was read by both my feral and stray cats that now enjoy a life inside?
I’ll check it out. The cat was adopted by the construction crew of the building my friends now live in. But once the building was finished, she couldn’t come inside. Doorman fed her, and she’s very friendly. So I think it will be a great relationship.
Sorry, that’s a joke. I assume that a “Handbook For Getting Inside” is out there from the evidence of their expertise in achieving their ends.
As I recall, the food is pretty good Chez eCahn; I think she’ll be very happy.
I asked Cahnstance about it, but she’s being a bit standoffish this morning. She seems reluctant to reveal her secrets. I think T.S. Eliot wrote a poem about that.
She ate what I put out for her last night.
It might take a while for her to get you properly trained.
Oh no. I’ve had a cat before who trained me very very well. In fact, besides splitting my time between 2 places, the other reason I haven’t gotten another cat is because I didn’t think anyone could live up to how great Jezebel was. She died a natural death at age 21, 8 years ago.
My niece, who just left the nest and is living in a new apartment, has been devastated to discover that she has mice. Is it true that just having a cat will solve that?
Congratulations!
As far as I know, yes. Never had mice in the city until the real estate boom, when many apts changed hands and were renovated. The construction disturbed wherever they were before they found my apt. We got a kitten from the pound (went with my son when he moved away), who was very young and had no “training” from her mom. With 2 weeks she found the first mouse, did her thing on it, and no mice showed up after that.
Mice in the house is another reason I decided to try the cat thing again. I’ve been using poison food, and that requires disposing of the bodies, if they’re not hidden under the stove or wherever.
Rachel’s the only reason I’ll watch that piece of slop……wonder if anyone’s done a comparison of the show’s ratings when she’s on vs. all the rest of the times she hasn’t been there?

Thanks for all your work in putting this together for us on Sundays. *smooch*
And multiple *smooches* to the techies behind the scenes who’ve apparently fixed the problem with not having to log on every time.
Thanks. I now join the host of commenters at FDL who have cats.
Mice got in when the temps started falling. Old fashioned mousetraps worked fine.
Yes, that WAS the pattern in the country. However, this past summer was so wet, I even had them in the house during the warm weather. I guess their usual habit was too wet. Also had the great blue heron in my back yard, because, I hypothesized, the river was too high and too turbulent for him.
At DKos they have the list of those dems that voted yes on Stupak, no on healthcare. Those are the one’s that must go.
Off to finish raking. Then bicycle ride. It’s a gorgeous day. Be well.
I think they are targets but more importantly we have to clean up the senate.
Rachel’s on MTP. I hope she tears Ed Gillespie a new asshole.
And some other firepups who have cats in their hearts, but not physically (asthmatic grandchildren who visit).
the battled field is flooded with Stupak (origin)
Morning Ruth, and thanks for the Matthews roundup, some days I don’t get to see it.
really! *shakes head*
Have you thought of getting one of those cats that have hair instead of fur? Supposedly they’re hypoallergenic.
Ernie’s happy that Cahnstance found a trainable human or as the cats call us, the help.
Hey Sunny, always the Integrity Guests – and panelists – on Fox News Sunday
Poppies have fertile ground then.
No problem, the displeasure is all mine.
I love the Bobblespeak Translations.
mind if I have a couple more pancakes?
you answered for me. my cable company has Fox stuck on a still picture, so no Foxy News AllStars for me today. :(
Yes, but it has been many years since I had a cat, although at one time I had three. It is nice not to have to worry about providing for a cat when I’m away. And said grandchildren have a chocolate lab who comes to visit (I am *not* a dog lover, but I try to tolerate it). So I get my cat fix vicariously.
I’ve only recently been introduced to the cartoonist Bill Day:
http://www.unitedfeatures.com/?title=Bio:Bill%20Day%20Editorial%20Cartoons
Have a looksee at his ‘toon from Nov 3 and then scroll on down to the one from Oct 22.
What a lucky kitty!I found with my street kitty, the slight standoffishness never totally went away. 12 years and counting. He now tolerates kisses, as he is showered with love by the technicians at the vet clinic where he goes about every 4 weeks as a heart failure patient. But mostly he’s “When I want affection, I’ll come to you.”
Off to enjoy the beautiful day here!
Then toss in Lunky Luntzhead (blerrggh)
Okay, I need to go for a walk;
MTP -haley the barbaric telling me that we can’t spend ourselves rich. from them that’s thrown all our money at the rich on the opposite premise.

A limited range of political observers on TV is reflected by the censorship policies preventing political speech in the blogosphere and here at FDL where I am on moderation for my political views [modnote: for behavior, not views] and on certain topics blocked. Consent is manufactured from ignorance of alternatives.
I’ve seen his work before. Have you gone to Daryl Cagle’s site? There are some pretty good progressive artists shown. But, you have to wade through some very conservatives ones too, like Michael Ramirez. Blech.
I’m really not understanding all the long faces last night here on FDL. All because of the Stupak amendment? We finally have health care reform in the starting gate and all anyone can bitch about is one amendment? Please. Let’s start thinking clearly. There is a very long road ahead with committees and the Senate vote. Even if the Stupak amendment remains in and is the reason why the Senate eventually passes historic health care reform, we have to concentrate on getting real progressives into Congress over the next few years, because we need them to strengthen the bill over the next few years before implementation! Am I right? Or will their be mass suicides and the wasting of great progressives all because of one amendment? Seriously…I’ve never seen a team in my life act as if all is lost with one loss.
There were a few lone voices pointing out much of the same. Some were saying the amendment was just a tossed bone that won’t make it to the floor. And, some were taking a wait and see position.
I guess the Left is susceptable to bright, shiny objects too, also.
I’d ask you how the weather in Maine is, but I’m guessing that it’s cold. Yes?
Mornin’ solai, the Integrity Network.
Vikings have a bye today. What to do, what to do (wrings hands)? It’s heading toward 60 degrees again here in MN. And the band plays on.
poor babies
Morning, not soon enough! :)
Good morning Demi! It’s kind of nice here this morning in Maine. Sunny and @ 50 degrees. Not bad for this time of year! :-)
Here’s the press release received from Maine’s Congressman Mike Michaud on the historic vote last night. Read it carefully please:
Broncos aren’t on till Monday night. We’ll see.
(((KayInMaine)))
Last night, Jane asked for voluteers to help with a research project today. You could email her and do that if you’re not in a hand wringing mood.
Hence the resurfacing of Lie-berman on Faux News
((((hugging you back Ms. Barbara))))
:-)
Bless him and does anyone else wonder how many Congress critters carefully read and studied the full bill? Bless him again, and he didn’t even sneeze.
He voted against women by supporting Stupak
I’ve met Congressman Mike Michaud a bunch of times. He is the greatest! I can see him reading this bill end to end. Seriously, he is so devoted to the people of Maine. Collins & Snowe could learn a lot from him but they’re too busy licking their fingers and putting them in the wind to find out how they’re supposed to be and act! Yeah, yeah, impressing the wingnuts is on their plate right now! I spit on both of them.
As for now, I will continue to embrace Mr. Michaud who represents my district here in Maine ’cause I know we’re in good hands! :-)
Anna Quindlen wrote this recently: “If the American people want the President to be more like the Obama they elected, perhaps they should start acting more like the voters who elected him.”
Just sayin’.
Hiya Barbara *waves from backyard to backyard**
We must replace Bachmann and Peterson. Minnesota Mission.
Welcome to the Lake Cahnstance C. Cahn, here’s a furry mouse just for you.
How fun!
No he did not. He voted to move this bill forward! Gees. The law of the land says no federal money for abortions. Fine. There is and has always been plenty of people in this country donating their money to make sure women are taken care of in their reproductive rights. It’s not the end of the world people! The fight goes on and we will win….well that is….if the “liberal progressives” decide to ban with the right wing fringe of this country to retaliate against progress!
I’m lucky you know how lucky you are. I have a Republican boot-licker as a “representative” — John “The Colonel” Kline. He has an iron rod up his, umm, back that steels his resolve to blow off anything the left cares about.
Now, the Senate? We have one warm waffle, but we also have Al Franken. And I am wildly optimistic that he will represent me, my state and the whole frickin’ country with progressive passion and an eye on the Constitution.
Exactly. We are the change we want. We have this power. Giving up over one amendment makes us look like a bunch of woosies who can’t shoot a gun straight! LOL It’s embarrassing. :-)
Hey, Prairie! I can see you from my kitchen wearing my amazing Russia-scanning glasses!
Colin Peterson is a snake in the grass. Michele Bachmann is (you heard it here first, folks /s) a Media Madame who seems to go all orgasmic when the camera is focused on her.
Big hopes for Taryl Clark to replace MB. Who’s going to bump CP?
Speaking of lucky, I’d like to double check how my rep, Brad Sherman voted. (We’re supposed to be paying attention to that stuff, right?) Does anyone have the link handy? Who voted how.
She also goes that way when making big Cow Eyes at J.B. when he’s speaking. Good Lord!
Here is the link for the Stupak ammendment.
http://firedoglake.com/2009/11/07/stupak-amendment-passes-64-dems-ask-for-primary-opponents/
One of my cats brought them inside, I think she was storing them for the winter ;)
This link shows the demos who voted yes on Stupak and no on HCR

*smooch* backatcha!
but cats are much purrier
Thank you.
will be happy to see that, she’s an excellent guest because she answers the questions, asks good questions , and doesn’t waste everybody’s time spouting talking points. More like that from any political persuasion
Go get ‘em, pups and tigers!

oh that Oct 22 one is priceless
Some rethugs consider that sperm to be an early form of human life.
Hey Kay, good to see you.
I’m really upset about the Stupak amendment, for me it completely overshadows the rest of the bill.
We’ll have to see what comes out of conference.
Sounds like just the weather for a long walk.
Thank you for sharing that anti-male hatred. The mods must love that sort of stuff as you had no problem posting it. I note that the majority of women are now pro-life not pro-choice and in general over the last nine years of polling by gallop the opinions of the genders differ so little on the question of abortion that in three years out of nine men were more in favour of it than women were. But keep right on spouting your anti-male sentiments that are endorsed by the moderators.
That’s the most horrific part of this nightmare.
how revolting
(((Kay)))
Every Sperm is Sacred
you have a linky for that “fact”?
And even if it were true, what difference does that make? It’s the woman’s decision, it’s the woman’s body yanno.
Prototype for the male chauvinist pig.
I will stop when the religious right stops spouting their anti-female rhetoric, okay? Get it, pal?
Thanks Elliott for the hug! I needed it. Okay, I’m halfway through folding that gigantic pile of laundry and have managed to wash the kitchen cabinets down with Murphy’s Oil! My friend Roland would be proud of me today in getting this far! Over 300 showed up to his funeral on Friday! What a day. :-)
I do. When I tried to post it the moderators censored it. You could google it I suppose. I think it was referenced at HuffPost and in an article by Jane Hamsher. I’d look it up for you again but since the odds of this comment being posted are a bit iffy I’m less inclined to do any work you know?
I could post it at another blog maybe?
(((KayInMaine))) Yes. Again. So sorry for your loss!!
Another comment deleted.
Perhaps I should have called someone “male chauvinist pig” or called for the genital mutilation of children? Then the moderators would have approved my comment.
Despite the wishes of most women on the issue I support abortion as a right. Perhaps that is why I am called a pig? I do oppose mandatory surgery though unlike KaylnMaine.
Thanks Barbara. I so appreciate it! It’s been the worst week of my life along with others who loved Roland so much. :-)
Vasectomies are not mutilation. It’s a day procedure and most men in this country are back to work the same day or the next. Much simpler than a hysterectomy for gawd’s sake!
Yep. In and out of the clinic in under an hour. Follow the dr’s instructions back to work the next day. No fuss, no muss.
Exactly. One of my comments didn’t post (thanks for whining David!), but I said that I am a proud shock troop and seeing David so riled up means the right wing religious freaks of our nation would gasp and rethink the abortion issue if they knew their young precious boys would be told how to be responsible for their own reproductive rights in this country by being forced to have a vasectomy at the age of 13.
Seriously. They would back off the abortion issue if this was thrown in their face and I am more than glad to do it! :-)
It’s about control, the authority of the patriarch. Their manhood seems to rely on violence and sexual repression.
