This link might be informative, if you view it in terms of Abe Simpson representing the stereotype of retired, somewhat out-of-it old folks. Here is the text specifically referring to Matlock from the site I linked to:

Like many of his fellow Retirement Castle residents, Abe is a devoted follower of Matlock. He seems to believe Matlock is a real person, suggesting they call him in to solve real-life crimes. During a Matlock public appearance, Abe and Jasper swipe Matlock's pills, which were needed to prevent him from having a spastic heart failure. Once, reflecting on his lifetime, he lamented it as terribly boring and full of unruly teenagers, but then decided it was alright because "we did have two shows with Andy Griffith".

Above all, it means that voters want their leaders to focus on sound policy making, not party orthodoxy

Yeah, because those "successful" Republican candidates -- the ones who won the governorships in VA and NJ -- were so "policy oriented," just like all the usual crazed Republican voters.

Sheesh. Save us from the "wisdom" of the NYT and WaPoo. Can't we "term limit" their columnists and editorial writers?

Wow! Replacing a conservadem in CA-10 with a hardcore liberal and public-option backer is Bad News for the Democrats? Replacing a Republican in NY-23 with a public option vote is Bad News for the Democrats?

So, is Broder one of the RNC's "Contractors" or does he have a salaried position with them?

The cable news stations are not covering reality. They are bending it.
24/7 political news ananlysis is probably not healthy for a republican form of government such as ours. It creates an enviroment of epistemic arrogance that is likely to lead to disastrous results.

Don't these idiots realize that the 2 seats the Dems picked up will get votes in the House and both won because they embraced Obama and specifically, the public option. As a resident of New Jersey who is very pissed that my state was stupid enough to vote for a Republican, and yes, he's a fat, sloppy, jowly faced, clown. And since I'm not a home owner, I can't wait until this clown lowers the property taxes by raising their taxes in some othe way. Or perhaps tolls as Corzine tried to do. New Jersey seems to have forgotten and rather quickly, that it was the Republicans in Washington who were in charge for the last 8 years when their taxes skyrocketed. Now, they've elected this low rent, Jersey stero type weasel who, as a candidate was a complete dud! You really do get the government you deserve and the idiots of my state haven't begun to feel the suffering and they can thank our new govenor Fatty Arbuckle for what he's going to unleash on them.

You know, it's really irritating to have to liseten to these ignorant GOP cheerleaders spewing their bullshit. I saw a segment on Morning Joe, or as I'm fond of calling him "Jethro", and he and his idiot cohost, Star Search Spokesmodel Mika were trashing the Dems and Nancy Pelosi. The conventional wisdom was that, the Dems were crushed in Tuesday's election. They dismissed the NY 23 race and never even mentioned the other seat the Dems picked up in California. Ignoring the fact that both govenors races were about local issues, they also don't seem to want to acknowledge that Christie and McDonnel don't get a vote on any legislation the Dems will put forward now or in the future. Even Katy Kay joined in stating that the Dems seem out of touch with the voters and perhaps they should postpone the legislation. Then, Mika reads an op ed from the Wall Street Journal which call for the same. I really can't stand these idiot pundits and "reporters" who get on the air and do exactly what they accuse the Dems of, which is spin. They really are a disgrace!

here's an interview, someone on the torture squad;

One of the 23 Americans convicted today by an Italian court says the United States “broke the law” in the CIA kidnapping of a Muslim cleric Abu Omar in Milan in 2003.

“And we are paying for the mistakes right now, whoever authorized and approved this,” said former CIA officer Sabrina deSousa in an interview to be broadcast tonight on ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson.

DeSousa says U.S. “abandoned and betrayed” her and the others who were put on trial for the kidnapping

she's got only a portion right

the real price was paid by the victims not the criminals, there is no defense she can hide behind "I was given orders"

the real price was paid by the LOSS of information, it was paid by how the program UNDERMINED success

the real price is the FACT that we CREATED terrorists and ENEMIES against our cause and our nation
