New videos from Swell Season and Dirty Projectors.
What’s on your mind tonight?
Hey Eureka!
Good evening
Hi es and newton
hi sunny
love the first one ES
Hi Sunny
It could have crossed the line in to soft pop… but it held its own really well. The video too.
Hi ES… Low Rising?
How about this?
You know it’s just one of those songs that you can’t get out of your head once you hear it. :)
War never gets old.
I’ve heard of runny eggs before, but sheesh – they really should get their roof fixed.
hi ES, Sunny, all.
‘Once’ was a good soundtrack for a pretty good movie, nice to see they’ve got a follow up.
Very cool, kind of a Van vibe with a little Roy Orbison thrown in. Good choice, ES!
Hi ES – Hi!
Hey, do you happen to know if the Dirty Projectors are friends with Grizzly Bear?
The similarity in the technicalities of the harmony (6-7-9) in this song compared to “Two Weeks”, including the way they execute it (chord changes) is quite amazing.
I’m taking a LLN opinion survey..
Eureka Springs 62nd Folk Festival this weekend.
Should I buy tickets for
Loudin Wainwright III on Friday or Gary Jules on Saturday?
I don’t know.. but good call.. and they sure should tour together.
NO that’s not the song; let me search Veckatimest. brb.
LW3
While I like the theme music from Donnie Darko, I’m with LW3.
Haven’t seen Once yet. Happens to be in my netflix queue.
That’s the way I’m leaning… I don’t know either of their music real well, but Jules sounds a bit lightweight.
Here we go – meant “Fine For Now.” I KNEW I had heard the 6-7-9-13 combo on the Griz.
I’ve been loving this for a while…really.
Not too serious.
Mad World, some of the theme music from Donnie Darko…
Last shopping report, I swear.
Today I hit the mother lode – cool gift for Ab Fab fans.
Last year Christian Lacroix designed an Evian water bottle for Christmas (undated), Picture here. Lacroix’s name is all over it – not visible in the pic.
Big Lots is selling them for $1.00. Santa is gonna have fun!
OMG sweetie, LaCroix!
LaCroix, Sweetie Dahling!
[where's me vodka, I'm a bit peckish]
Fine.
Sort of bittersweet, not your typical happy ending. The soundtrack is more singer/songwritery than tonight’s offering which has a slightly bluesy tint.
Here’s one from the soundtrack.
and another.
I’d pick LW III, myself. I really like his voice.
Sorry, but I’m liking those Dirty Projectors better than Swell Season.
It’s a local thing; when I’m not listening to classical, I listen to our Boulder station, KBCO, and they’ve just overplayed Swell Season IMO. I’ve heard it bunches lately, including NPR just last week.
That makes me a DIRTY person I guess – lol!
That’s over the top Ab Fab funny. Love it! great for a buck too.
I think you’re projecting. :~)
As you might imagine.. I often preview vids throughout the day.. and think to myself so and so firepup would really like this one.
I knew you would like dirty projectors tonight..)
I like DP song best too… Placed Swell up top since the overall vid song combo was best, imo.
Concur!
Hi Margot..) Looks like Loudin has unanimous polling so far.
It’s going to be a weekend full of music.
Sunny, Somebody just has to open one of those bottles.. pour out the water and refill it with Champaign…)
Neat!
Yeah, like a BLT. I’m lusting more on the tomato instead of the top biller, but it’s all good!
I thought sculptural food was so late-90s dot-com extravance. it’s baaaaaaack.
LOL. So, would a case be excessive?
Absolutely NOT, dahling!
And I do mean ABSOLUT!
Yes indeed!
I want one right now.
Listening to alot of this lately

nineties, schmeinties – gimme!
I love St Vincent.. She may be my next CD purchase. I can’t decide which one to buy first.
Oh.. and she was on Austin City Limits a week or two back.
Cool! Reminds me of Danny Elfman/Oingo Boingo, yet more St. Vincent-er
Saw that-it was excellent. I like her first better than the current CD, although the new one is growing on me.
Yeah, I hear that! That song sounds like a Zappa composition to me.
Fabulous. Imagine creating the sugar threads..
Um, what else is on the list?
I just read that review!
It all sounds delish.
That’s a great pic, ain’t it.
by Caramelized nuns?
Caramelites would do it silently…
Lots of unannounced and lessor known folk. No Doc Watson, Odetta or Arlos this year,. Which is odd.
Hunny, Odetta passed on… December 2, 2008
Good lord, right up to the vocals I thought it was some old Fleetwood Mac pre Nicks/Buckingham!
Mic using the padded drumsticks (don’t know what they are called), a bit of both Bob Welch and Danny Kirwin on the guitar strums.
Wow. What similarity!
The vocals vaguely remind me again of old CO based HP Lovecraft in the stacking, too.
Interesting track, Kelly, thanks . . .
Yeah, I know.. she get’s a free pass. /s jus sayin’ we usually do it big when it comes to Folk fests.
I vaguely recall you mentioning this fest in the past, and drooling at some of the lineups.
Go with Dead Skunks In The Middle Of The Road!
*G*
Deerhunter is another good band.

Kelly, Here’s Some Mac Like I Was Thinking.
L-R Jeremy Spencer, git, Danny Kirwin git, Peter Green, git, Mic Fleetwood and John McVie.
Yo – Ain’t that fun?
As regards Grizzly Bear, I haven’t put all my thoughts down yet, but you might really like “I Live With You.”
I think there’s a buncha tribute to Sgt. Peppers in that, particularly, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
Aidan Hawken: local guy makes a good song, ends up with it on some soap opera TV show (feel free to disregard the video component)
There are very good reasons why the 6-7-9-11-(13) combo (and it’s permutations) is prevalent, especially in guitar.
Someday, I’m going to have to make a “layman friendly” music theory video. People would demand more and better music (just as we demand more and better democrats!) if we knew what exactly we were looking for.
Crikey – look at the time; gotta go. Night all!
‘S Been swell!
Good night firedog formerly known as KCD
Wilco: I am Trying to Break your Heart
(another whatever video)
Yup… that works. New to me..thanks
kiss kiss DAHLING!
More Old Mac With Kirwin Loved Kirwin n Spencer, and Welch/Kirwin Later On.
Kirwin/Welch, Tell Me
I’m turning into a pumpkin myself…
Good night firedogs.
me too, bonne nuit
ES, loved Dirty Projectors!
Off to Nod. Nite pups.
Just saw this post. While I like Loudon Wainright, I totally love Gary Jules music. I HIGHLY recommend him. I’ve driven 9 hours to see him play before – if I could I would be at Ozark folk fest but I live too/too far away.
Check him out while you got the chance; not sure how often Gary will be in arkansas but he is amazing. Mad World, great cover. But his original stuff is amazing.
Do you watch Gray’s Anatomy – well when they unplugged George from Life Support there was a song playing – Falling Awake. that is Gary Jules. After that episdoe the song charted on 2 billboard charts.
He’s had songs on Scrubs, Brothers and Sisters, Law and Order and in movies such as Donnie Darko, Catch and Release (Pills), Diggin to China etc.
He recently was on mountain stage and the people loved him. Here’s a link to his show. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120127771
You can also find some great stuff on Youtube; however you get a lot of people covering Mad World so you got to really search. Brandi Carlisle recently covered Mad World btw.
Here’s a great clip from Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUJG4tti16I&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFnewMjjkIQ – Mad World.
Hope ya’ll make the show – I’m pretty sure you’ll be glad you did.
