Remember when The War On Terror was the biggest, most important struggle in the universe, and America’s very survival was at stake? Well, that was but a trifle compared to the fearsome new danger gathering to threaten our great nation, and this time there is no Decider W. Bush to protect us.

I speak, of course, of Healthcare Reform.

At first it was only a threat to the Republican Party:

“And if they get there, of course, you’re going to have a very rough time having a two-party system in this country, because almost everybody’s going to say, ‘All we ever were, all we ever are, all we ever hope to be depends on the Democratic Party,’ ” [Sen. Orrin] Hatch said….

(…)

“Do I believe they’re that diabolical? I don’t believe most of them are, but I think some of them are,” Hatch said.

But eagle-eyed American patriot Virginia Foxx (R-NC) recognized the true import of this nefarious Democratic plot:

I believe the greatest fear that we all should have to our freedom comes from this room — this very room — and what may happen later this week in terms of a tax increase bill masquerading as a health care bill. I believe we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country.

Glenn Beck was quick to back her up:

Conservatives are awake. 9/12ers are willing to do the hard things….  They are reading 2,000-page healthcare bills on the weekend. The 9/12ers are willing to stand in line and take our shoes off before the plane actually hits the tower.

As was Neil Boortz:

Va. Rep. Virginia Foxx has it right. ObamaCare does present a greater threat than Islamic terrorism.

So there you have it.  The prospect of Americans getting blown up was pretty terrifying, but it pales in comparison to the specter of Americans getting affordable healthcare.

If bin Laden really wants to destroy America, all he needs to do is sneak in enough wild-eyed fanatical doctors and wild-eyed fanatical medical equipment to treat millions of Americans on the cheap.  The American economic and political system would instantly collapse, and our once-proud nation would become a fundamentalist Muslim paradise.  Gosh, I sure hope he isn’t reading this.
