I am relatively pleased with the election results. VA R win was baked in the cake. What nutcase would want to be guv of NJ in this economy. NY-23 was a defeat for the wingnuts. And even gazillionaire Bloomberg came in close. I know that’s thin gruel, but it’s better than I expected.

i’m so jazzed. its not teeth but it is the start of the process — i’ve been dealing with the removing teeth process for so long — it is nice to start the adding teeth process. even tho i still have teeth to remove it is a positive step.

right now just an upper plate. dr a said nothing he is doing will prevent me from getting implants at a later date. eventually i’m going to go to that dentist my mom recommended in mexico and get implants. gotta save up for that tho and i do wanna do some traveling instead of always saving for teeth :)

i know several people who have had them and they swear by them — said it feels just like having real teeth again. but at this point i’m just going with what my wallet dictates.

that’s true. my dentist said i was lucky that my bottoms are keepers — said most denture problems are with the bottom plate.

Well, see how the denture works out and consider it later.

even tho i am eating softer foods right now, i feel healthier than i have in a while. had a good friend tell me i have a sparkle in my eyes that wasn’t there and that my face looks better. i was worried that it was gonna look all sunken in on that left side.

yup. as i said, i wanna do some traveling and want to save for that instead of teeth. a goal that doesn’t involve sharp metal objects in my mouth

Loo Hoo…I know one woman who had full dentures, and now has full mouth implants. I don’t know her well so all she said was she now gets dental cleanings every 2 months.
The bottom teeth I would consider implants, but the top, I don’t think so. A woman I know had lots of pain with them; another friend had a front tooth implant fall out and it took another 6 months to resolve. Sounds like lots of time and money.

I’m researching some classes at a local Comm. College and it turns out that for $30/month, students buy dental insurance at a clinic with a good reputation. Evidently it covers most anything and has a low deductible. I’ll probably take advantage myself.

hey emerson — that’s a great idea. i wonder if there is anything like that up here. i don’t think tillamook bay community college has dental classes — would probably be for students in portland at campuses there via the university system. hmmm

Tooth implants, imo, have become very commercialized. I can understand how they would work with young people whose bones are still growing or strong enough to take that kind of impact. I don’t understand how they could work in an age group like we are in where we’re already taking calcium as a supplement.

Fit is critical. Gotta make sure they’re right. And your gums shrink, so it takes a bit of waiting unless you go with temps, then permanents.

I don’t know how long I waited between the two, a couple of months I think. But I had teeth pulled and an immediate temp, which isn’t Suz’s situation.

It’s been at least 12 years and I’m past due for new teeth. Can not believe I’m discussing my dentures here in front of god and everyone ;-)

it was forking hard to write but i had a great team backing me up. i tried real hard to do right by her — making it about her life and not her death.

actually that is what he is planning on doing — when they pull these final teeth the upper goes right in. then at 6 months it gets relined after a gum conditioning (iirc). i’ve got shrinkage already on the left so he should be able to gauge by that.

I need to ask a few more questions, but I don’t think this commcoll in Napa has dental classes either. I think they just have a working relationship with the clinic, but I’ll find out more and relay it.

I know what you mean! I fainted (pain from and IUD) and landed on my chin when I was 21. Broke and split a lot of teeth, which were crowned, bridged, and eventually pulled. I have a partial now. The first partial I got here in San Diego. It consisted of a metal band around the tooth in front of it. Every time I chewed, it loosened the tooth that was banded, and consequently, I lost that tooth.

Then I went to a dentist in Tijuana. He made a partial that had a plastic gum colored stabilizer that fit over the gum rather than the teeth. I’ve been able to hold on to these teeth for three years past when the American dentist told me I should have them pulled.

That’s shocking. I would think he’d never mention HoJo again.
