Fifty-Two Days.
When you next hear Liz Cheney, or her Dick, spew nonsense about “keeping America safe” this is what you can yell at your teevee: Fifty-Two Days.
That’s how many more days Barack Obama’s “false narratives” have kept America safe than the Bush team. Sure, Bush & Cheney would like Americans to start their safety record on 9/12/01, but it doesn’t really work that way. An Administration’s entire opus counts. And eight years ago right now, America was in the grip of the anthrax attacks, so Bush’s “kept America safe” claim can’t start right up on 9/12/01, anyway.
But — as of today, Barack Obama has kept America fifty-two days‘ safer than George W Bush did. Actually reading and understanding Presidential Daily Briefings apparently has an upside. Not telling briefers put on a special plane to deliver cold warnings of enemy intent, ” All right. You’ve covered your ass, now” when a vacation is interrupted — it pays off.
So when Dick Cheney says this President is “dithering” or when MItt Romney says he’s “weakening America” or when the GOP wails that he’s “betraying our allies” let’s remind them. Barack Obama has kept America safe fifty-two days longer than George W Bush did, as of today, 11/01/09.
Because when it comes to the death of 2,993 people on 9/11/01, there are no mulligans. No do-overs, really, on keeping America safe. They can’t call backsies. Bush and Cheney don’t get to re-set the clock and say, “We kept America safe [afterwards].”
“From then on” is not a safety metric.
“Well… not counting 9/11″ doesn’t cut it.
They didn’t keep America safe. Why Americans never held them accountable I shall never understand. How they managed to win re-election on a platform of “keeping America safe” boggles the mind.
But one thing the Bush/Cheney cabal can never now deny: this guy Americans elected to succeed their incompetent criminal enterprise, this President we have now? This new fellow? He has kept us safer than they did.
By fifty-two days.
And counting.

fifty two days
teddy!
Good evening everyone, and happy November! 2009 certainly has sped by — just two months left.
hiya suz!
Teddy & Suzanne!! Howdy!
Teddy!
Even more importantly, he has kept America safe from Darth Cheney and Dubya the Dim since Jan. 20!
this year has sped by teddy.
ding!
It really has. I must be getting old.
As I age, I find that they all tend to do that. Rather depressing at the age when you really want to savor every moment.
Happy Day of the Dead, everyone.
i thought time would slow down when i retired — boy was i surprised :)
I’m not dead!
I dunno, as long as Darth and Darth-ette keep popping up on TV the suffering continues.
True, but they have very limited ability to inflict actual damage now.
sure as hell ain’t stopped ‘em from trying
Keep it up! Not dying impresses people. The rumor that a guy might have got out of it once has kept people talking about him for 2,000 years. I forget his name, Bert, or something like that…
I’ve gotten very tired of the constant “kept us safe!” refrain about Bush & Cheney. I think that by keeping this calendar (tomorrow is fifty-three days!) we can shut down the folks who let these horrible attacks happen.
Hey there Matt.
Nothing short of a stake, a cross, and an abundant supply of garlic will do that.
Well, not safe enough. If both of them were spending their time with war-criminal defense attorneys, they’d have less time to talk about dithering (Darth) and dog-poop (W).
Can you imagine that a year ago we were worried about a McCain presidency — and a Snowbillie Vice Presidency?
Thanks Teddy,
Bush did not keep us safe, did not, did not, didn’t. If President Gore had ignored the warnings, and there were many, the thugs would never let up on that drumbeat.
Why sappy dems let them get away with this ‘bush kept us safe bs’ for years is beyond me.
Thanks for pointing it up, Teddy, I hope some dems on Sunday TV wake up and take some whacks at Bush. 9-11 did happen, on Bushes watch. He responded to intelligence warnings of Osama’s aims and activities with “ok, you’ve covered your ass”.
Even better if they were safely ensconced in prison cells for life, but I do not see that happening unless one of them makes the mistake of leaving the country any time soon.
I have a theory, would you like to hear it?
When you are a wee lad of five, a year is twenty percent of the time you’ve lived, so it seems interminable. When you are ten years old, a year is ten percent of your life, so it seems like a lot of time, relatively speaking. But when you are forty, it’s only two and a half percent of the life you’ve lived. So, relatively, a year seems much smaller and goes by much more quickly.
Yup. A year later, we’re merely gravely disappointed as opposed to actively terrified. *sigh*
Didn’t Richard Armitage say once that Powell routinely had to visit the WH to (metaphorically) clean up all the dog poop in the Oval Office? Seems to be a recurring theme in the life of 43.
works for me :)
Someone pointed out on another thread that there always seems to be someone with a very convenient microphone when they want to say anything. And there we are, with our listening ears on, as Judge Judy likes to say.
There needs to be some very active shunning. I’m hoping the shame of Marcy’s work this weekend on the interview papers will help in that department.
Also, Biden’s statement after Darth’s dithering charge was good: “Why would anyone care what that — I’d better stop now.”
Sounds about right to me. In my case the years are down to less than 2% of my life and shrinking every ear.
Perhaps active mockery would suit, as well.
And rotten produce and eggs.
President Gore would have been impeached by this time eight years ago if 9/11 had happened on his watch, and America would be treated to the prospect of President Leiberman, who could probably very easily be prevailed upon to appoint Dick Cheney his Vice as a “unity” move, heading into war.
I think you’re right. I would add that from day one until age 20 or so, you are practically a different person every year. After reaching adulthood and falling into routines which sometimes last for decades passing time makes less of an impression than when you were young.
Yes, it’s the (relative) shrinkage every year that accounts for the seeming speeded-upness.
Yes, all those very different elementary-school pictures, and the proceeding-through-educational-milestones really make the years seem distinct.
Now, not nearly so much. Every year of my fifties has seemed quite same-y. Although much has happened in the world, I feel unchanged.
i would not be at all surprised if that wasn’t the plan all along in case bush v gore failed — they would get rid of gore as soon as they could and then prez lie-ber-man could do the bidding of the cheney bunch.
That and, as ratfood points out, the sameness of life year to year as you age. Unlike when you are younger, not much changes from one year to the next (which can be a very good thing in some cases).
The Biden response hit the right note. More of that please. I heard David Gregory ask Plouffe today about Obama’s war with Fox News. He gave some totally lame response to the effect that it did not exist. What I would have much preferred was something like, “David, Fox News is a propaganda tool of the Republican Party. I know that, you know that, your viewers know that, even the people who regularly watch Fox News know that. For you to pretend otherwise is an insult to everyone’s intelligence.”
I think perhaps pointing out that the administration is not “at war with” Fox News, just pointing out what should be obvious to everyone, but which the media conveniently ignore.
Seems like an excellent Plan B — and Cheney always seems to have a Plan B. I do believe, though, that 9/11 profoundly changed him. He was always a physical coward, of course. His five deferments attest to that.
But everyone says he changed after 9/11, whether due to the attacks or the new great weight on his shoulders. The more we learn in the future about the actual day, including his lies about it, the more I think we’ll see that he was profoundly frightened, not simply for his life but for his political power.
Because Cheney knew he would never, ever allow a presidency to survive such a failure. And that, I think, colored his view of Democrats going forward: that they not only let Bush survive, but LOST seats in 2002, made him profoundly disrespect them.
And that made him mad with power.
Haven’t adjusted to the time change yet. Believe I will “Fall back” into bed. Wishing a splendid evening to all.
Yes, this “at war with FOX News” meme should be met, soberly, with a response that America is engaged in two real wars and that the ravings of a propaganda outlet of the far-right are quite irrelevant, as their views were rejected soundly at the ballot box. And — we here in the White House are too busy fighting the two real wars we were left by our predecessors to worry about FOX.
Team Obama needs to get above this “fight.”
Plouffe is pushing a book, not the WH line anymore.
But of course Gregory is too stupid to understand, or acknowledge, that.
I think Darth has always been power mad. He started out as a Goldwater Republican and was a founding member of PNAC. I think you are correct, however, that something snapped after 9/11.
yup yup and yup.
he is so fearful that what he would have done to anyone else will be done to him.
Night. Think I will join the exodus as well. Take care all.
*waving g’nite to the leaving sleepyheads*
What a great post Teddy.
I just wish Obama could keep our soldiers safe also, and maybe end the detention and rendition programs.
hippo birdies cassie
A quick hippo birdie to the birthday girl on my way out!
A lot of people around me chose to almost worship Bush. “He is a good Christian man sent by GOD to lead us through this!”
No he wasn’t. He didn’t do his job. He kept a nation terrorized for his whole presidency and I want him in the Hague for war crimes.
**************************
HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!
**************************
Well, perhaps you’ll have an opportunity to mention to these people how much safer President Obama has kept us! Of course, he was sent by the Muslin god.
*waving g’nite to the leaving sleepyheads*
copycat (laughing)
The hippo and the birdy are at music classes with the ewel
Did you wish for Single Payer Health Care when you blew out yer candles, Kass?
must be trying to get mini s’mores…
Yes sir. That and for my brother to get back safely from afghanistan and get his life together. Also for peace.
on the east coast, it has now been 53 days
I like this style of response from anyone speaking for the WH. The MSM response is already well-rehearsed :”Well, what about MSNBC? Couldn’t one say they are an arm of the Obama administration viewpoints?”
As usual, Democrats don’t have an answer for that one and go into their cocoon.
But, something like, “A big part of being a legitimate news operation is always checking the facts. It seems that is what MSNBC is doing. When Fox starts doing that, I’ll commend them as well.” could be effective.
Happy Birthday, Cassie!!
Strange you would post this tonight, Teddy. I was just thinking about this yesterday, as I counted how far past September 11 this now is.
Also, I’m impressed that ObamaCo hasn’t gone apeshit on Zazi, etc. Cool as cucumbers, letting law enforcement do their jobs.
Can you imagine the hollering BushCo would have been doing about these plots?
I share all those wishes with you, especially for your brother’s safe return from war.
Anyone who thinks MSNBC is in the tank for Obama doesn’t watch the first three hours, hosting by a former Florida GOP Congressman who is not what anyone would call a moderate. A crank and suspected murderer, but not a moderate.
Cassie,
Yes, for the safety of your brother, and a wish for peace. How are you birthday girl?
Teddy!
Nice to see your diaries, etc around here lately.
Good evening, Pups!
Happy Birthday, Cassie! And many more.
FunnyWheelieDiva
Hey, Cassie, Happy Birthday! And, yes, we share your wish for your brother’s safety, and for the safety of every one of our service men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Agree and that could be part of the response as well. But that is the line being spoken often on CNN amongst other MSM outlets, and it should be strongly and completely deconstructed.
That’s Armageddon talk.
;>)
Yeeeeeahhhhhhh, Teddy!
I was too late to O’Donnell’s smackdown of Lyin’ Liz. I’m still “trying to wrap my head around” the fact that her draft dodging dad had the gall to answer an interviewer who brought up all the soldiers who were dying in Iraq and he “honored” them by saying
“So?”
Sick sick sick family. They deserve all the nation’s contempt.
Hey there Fd2!
db!
Yeah, and that’s my favorite part – for all my disappontments with this administration, they’ve been rolling up (alleged) plotters before they carry out their plans, and doing it with pretty much regular law enforcement — the very kind that Bush and Cheney insisted was completely inadequate to “keep us safe.”
I’ll never understand why Bush got a pass from the people on 9/11 and anthrax either. And it’s just head-exploding-frustrating to hear them brazenly asserting that they “kept us safe” because there were no attacks after 9/11. A real press corps would never let them get away with it. At least, now with Rachel and Keith, we hear it out loud on a branch of MSM now.

Why don’t we talk about the good things that Beltway Beth has done, I ask you?
;>)
Hi peeps!
*formerly KellyCDenver*
[laughing at darkblack - har!]
Oh thanks Teddy, The gall of that family!
Do you remember that CNN show where those guys yelled at each other? Mary Matalin’s husband and that piojo with the bow tie?
Well, sometime after 9/11 it went off the air for like 3 months.
I think there was word from On High that said, “We can’t have any arguing about going to war.” Certainly felt chilling to me.
Hey there, welcome to Real Name World!
Dive right on in, the water’s fine.
oh, my
Speaking as an occasional imbiber…There’s no way that Bush isn’t roasted coming off that helo @ 2:45 in the video. Drunk, with power.
;>)
Grazie, brother Teddy!
And oh, btw, some certain activists, you know, holding Obama to campaign promises? They’re getting a lotta shit on other blogs. Funny, one called me a racist.
But let me ignore that, and just post what I sang on MLK day 2008, which pretty much regarded candidate Obama’s speech that day.
Funny, asking people to keep their promise is racist? I don’t get it.
Drunk, with drink, too.
Yeah, and I understand some tendency to all “pull together”, “close ranks,” etc. But I really don’t think it would have happened with Gore, or Clinton, or H. Clinton, or Obama, or any Democrat. Yup, no discussion allowed, might be treasonous.
In fact, remember Ari Fleishcher? Americans better “watch what they say?”
A drink-soaked popinjay, easily manipulated by bad companions.
;>)
Your talent with graphics is Beethovenesque – you must have “labored to produce.” Yay!
Eeeeyew!
But I like that word, popinjay. don’t hear it much these days – but I believe it does suit that subject well.
oh brother!
I was quizzing my teen on US govt today and even she knows that campaigns are about getting elected and then forgetting about whatever you said after you’re in office!
Well, I had a talk with Barbie about, erm, popinjays and such.
Didn’t do any good. But I still had a say in the matter! :)
To quote a former President – ‘I’ve earned everything I got’, but to quote a famous actor, ‘Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respectable if they last long enough’…I’ve never been quite sure what category fits me.
;>)
Calling Backsies! That goes way back.
I don’t get it, where do the 52 daze come from, when are they marked, how are they charted?
I don’t get it.
Damn, starting to wheel back, EVERY one is in here!
Sigh, I’m late.
Yet, again.
Geesh! It’s a shame you wasted what appears to be some writing ability on a totally assinine topic!
Armageddon comes but once, depending on what source you seek, that is.
I personally think we all come more often.
And we are more happy for that, than those who only armageddon once.
I’d wager the proof has been in the putting, too.
*G*
52 days since 9/11/09.
52 days safer than Bush kept America.
Thank you, I think.
Who you calling you, and what wasted ability, on what assinine topic?
Yer not really specific to deal with quite yet.
Are you Armageddoning to soon, too?
There are manual techniques that can help you with that.
As long as you are willing to be coached and guided.
And even your sexual partners can help you, if you’ll just let them.
As long as they are over 18 and of their own choice, I don’t mind HOW you solve your inhibitions.
Really!
Thanks Teddy, sorry, I got here late.
Appreciate your reply and patience with my lack of understanding.
*G*
BTW, Give Em Hell Teddy, every time ya can.
I don’t really care WHO they are . . . mostly, when ya do, they are bad guys or gals.
*G*
Hey, Larue, thanks
Geesh, it’s a shame you wasted what appears to be the most powerful word of your 18-word thought by misspelling it.
Life is great. Without it your dead.
I know, huh? Kinda dulls the pain of that brilliant riposte, eh?
