New videos from Brakes and Richard Walters.
Good evening, ndfg..)
ES! Howdy ho, compadre!
Hi eureka and ndfg!
I’m still reeling from Teddy using the expression “calling backsies.” Haven’t heard that in 50 years.
gonna make a bid on another house tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed for me. The twin cities for the 2nd month in a row is the nation’s hottest housing market. sigh. This will be my fourth bid … i’ve given up on living in minneapolis, i’m trying the suburbs now. blech.
Hey hey, KCD..)
Hi Sunny, What does it (calling backsies)mean?
Oh nooooo, not the suburbs. Stepford ndfg. /s
Isn’t unemployment super high up there, for all these home sales?
Kelly! I wrote you a note that became waay too long, so I hit delete. You’ll hear from me soon. Honest. :-)
I have only watched the “Brakes” video so far.
ES, I am compelled to share – my granpa. He was not cool, but he was, in a way.
Yet, I myself am cute in a l’ll cowboy shot. Guess!
KCD, Did we miss your video last week, or was it not meant to be?
Calling for a do over. It used to come up when we played jacks. I don’t remember what justification/rationale -if any- there was for calling backsies, but you were restored to your prior state.
Kelly, Kelly Kelly.
Now we gotta guess what costume yer in?
Dude . . . . *G*
Grrr! I made no new Hallowe’en vid, dammit!
All I got is this one
Been meaning to share this with you for weeks. I like it, but just don’t seem to be able to find a slot for posting it on a LLN.
The Mountain Goats – “Ezekiel 7 and The Permanent Efficacy of Grace”
If you got video of me in chaps, we have to have a serious talk. :)
In marbles, be it poison or shoot out’s, backsies were like the fabled Mulligan in golf.
Only once used.
And in marbles, that I recall, it never worked in yer favor.
I forget why it never worked.
But hey, I recall playing marbles. And circles in the dirt, and a hole in the center.
And Aggie’s, Boulders, Cats Eyes, Steelies and many, many more booties of marbled legend lore.
And after that were tops, and then yoyo’s.
I conquered all.
I believe the soccer skills I developed overseas gave me the hand/eye coordination skills necessary to succeed in Da States . . *G*
ummm, i don’t know how we rate as far as unemployment … it’s the low end of the market that’s hot. In that bracket houses have come down quite a bit, so it’s possible for first time home buyers to jump in, esp. with the tax credit. And since it’ll soon expire, everyone has beem trying to buy in the last week or two so they don’t lose out.
No, no I don’t think so, and I’m not single, and I’m not gay.
Yer SUCH a predator. You need a partner.
If I knew someone, I’d hook you up in a New Yoik minuet.
Yer so bad. HJoney yer so bad.
That’s a great vid. Why were they placing all that hay down by the water? Was it on a raft or makeshift barge?
Can I just parachute in after an offline weekend away to say “F*ck Joe Lieberman”?
thanks you for your collective indulgence, and good night.
Love ya, you big dink. I have a partner. Shut yer pie hole! WEEE!
Now we is communicatin . . . . *G*
We never played marbles, that was for boyz. Girls played jacks. I’ve still got sidewalk scars on my knuckles to prove it.
I’ve a vague memory something had to go wrong, like the other person moving your jack, before you were entitled to call backsies.
Is a mulligan an entitlement?
bound by your contempt?
good night, punaise.
Dang I love this LLN stuff, now that I get half of it.
Dang, only if yer a rethug . . *G*
I don’t know exactly why, but I love that question. Bet it could start a bar fight in a country club.
Is Suz in da houz?
I was so bad at jacks.
Just the other day I was remembering little childhood rhymes we would say on the playground.
Tick, tock, this game is locked
No one can play but us 3 (or whatever number)
And then the jump rope rhymes, I’ve forgotten lots…
A hole in one, could too, in many a place.
Ahh, cool you noticed.
That was more fuel,in cans, than hay if you look closely.
It was a barge.
Look, that goddamn lake was turning over to Corp interests. My family could just not be in the way.
It is How It Works.
Oh, jump rope rhymes! Scouring my memory…….
All I remember is I see Boston, I see France – that’s not jump rope *g*
I remember backsies or no backsies as a part of every trade negotiation. Whether you were swapping baseball cards, 45′s or dessert it was the proviso. So, if I wanted to trade my Four Tops “Wake Me, Shake Me” for your Tempts “Wish It Would Rain,” I would claim “No backsies,” or this deal is done; while if you weren’t sure you might call “backsies” meaning I reserve the right to trade back or renegotiate tomorrow.
or renegotiate tomorrow.
Wow, the next day, that’s huge… I bet possession is 9/10 of the law came into play pretty quickly.
Yes! “no backsies”
I grew up on a block with about 50 kids, so the code was strong. Anybody that didn’t adhere to the deal lost all credibility with your peers. It was a pretty good deterrent cuz nobody wanted to be called a liar.
in NJ, it was, “I see London, I see France…” *g*
When the 4 Tops ever did Wake Me Shake Me (done by Blues Project, never heard 4 Tops do it) I swear I’ll call backsies on that one . . . you know somethng I’ve never heard.
Al Kooper, Blues Project. Wake Me Shake Me.
Don’t TELL me they stole it from 4 Tops, and I never heard that.
I just couldn’t take it, any more.
Don’t remember anyone expressly stipulating backsies, but none of my playmates grew up to be politicians.
Lots of comic book trading in my neighborhood..
Actually you’re right, Larue! It was “Shake Me, Wake Me.”
That’s NOT the Blues Project song, Wake Me Shake Me.
I know that 4 Tops song, it’s not the song you and I were in disagreement with.
It’s a good song, but it’s NOT Wake Me Shake Me.
We’re both right, but you called it title wise, Wrong.
Good tune, though, and I’m a HUGE Motown Fan! And Tops, and Smokey, and more.
Huge Motown and Gordy fan! *G*
And Spector, too. *G*
Da Doo Run Run!!!!
Yeah, comics big-time! I always wanted the off-beat super heroes like Aquaman and Green Lantern.
Wake Me, Shake Me. Blues Project.
Al Kooper, Steve Katz, maybe Harvey Brooks? On Basss? I forget. Vinyl’s buried, deep. *G*
I wonder what kids trade these days.
Wow. Kelly, thanks.
“In blackest day, and darkest night. Let no evil escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might. Beware my power, Green Lantern’s Light!”
Any thing their parents don’t monitor.
And it’s all in the tabloids, too.
They reveal their lives, what kids and teens are doin with their tech.
Who knows how it will ruin their lives to come.
Holland, Dozier and Holland were second only to Lennon/McCartney as songwriters in the second half of the 20th Century, in my book.
LOVED that song, too. Every band in town played it.
That’s a good call Emerson. I’d have to think way to long to add much to that, other than Jagger/Richards.
DHH and LM were insane, in all they did.
From the late 50′s when LM were in Germany, and when ever it was, HDH were doin their thang.
Great writers, huge songs, and a plethora of songs, TONS of songs, each of them.
Remembering: All in Together Girls and Engine Engine Number 9.
Flute Thang. *G*
Cheryl’s Goin Home.
Many, many, more.
That is a great question. In fantasy sports, they trade players on their roster like we traded cards.
Geez, how do you remember that? I barely remember Kato!
yeah, and Gordy was brilliant in deciding which groups got which songs.
Really, really nice Kelly.
I was guessing it would include something computer related.
Well folks.. I guess daylight savings had an effect.. I’m fading fast.
Good night all.
p.s. nice to see you emerson..)
You too, ES. Sleep well…and congratulations on Louisa!
Stuff sticks, for some reason.
Nite ES. Thanks for the hospitality.
How about this brutal counting-out ditty:
My mother and your mother were hanging up clothes
My mother punched your mother right in the nose
What color blood came out? (red)
r-e-d spells red and out you do go.
Not last night but the night before
24 robbers came a-knocking at my door…
“Met her on a Monday and my heart stood still…”
“Somebody told me that his name was Bill . . ”
Rocked my soul, as did Barry Gordy, Phil, and the raydeo . . . *G*
Course on the LEFT Coast, there was “I want to thank you for the most wonderful summer of My life.”
And Barbara Jordon, “Make Me Your Baby”.
Sigh, them summers as a kid with a transistor . . .
Telstar, Alice In Wonderland, Apache, and more.
“Baby The Rain Must Fall.”
We liked that one in the east, too. And Darlene Love, too.
Sigh, all alone with my Santa Cruz, CA memories, and seals barking in the harbor, to AM Radio.
Me too. G’nite all.
How can we win against Corporate sponsored Democrats and Republicans when we have guys like this and they have Pat Boone?
