Crybaby Councilman May Resign Over Parking Tickets

By: Lisa Derrick Tuesday October 6, 2009 8:00 pm

What a baby! What a douche! Huntington Beach councilman has collected a dozen street cleaning tickets because he can’t be bothered to move his car on street sweeping day. And now after his latest ticket, he’s threatening to resign. Good riddance. First term councilman Devin Dwyer told the Orange County Register:

I’m enraged. The practice of extorting funds out of us so they can pay for different things just drives me crazy. … If I can’t get the change, then why am I even here?

Dwyer thinks street sweepers should make beeping noises so residents can run out and move their cars, and that if a car is parked, the sweeper should just come back later.

How Does Shep Smith Still Have A Job?

By: Eli Tuesday October 6, 2009 6:01 pm

Yes, I know, there is practically nothing that a Fox News person can say or do that’s vile enough to cost them their job. Bill O’Reilly is still batting cleanup even after being exposed as a creepy sexual harasser, and Glenn Beck just keeps on catering to the right wing’s most paranoid and dangerous elements while shedding advertisers like a leaky centrifuge. But I think Shep Smith has really gone beyond the pale here:

Nebraska Democratic Party Passes DFA/FDL/Credo Resolution in Support of Public Plan

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday October 6, 2009 4:45 pm

public_option_credo_fdl_dfa.gifOn August 25, we joined with DFA and Credo asking local organizations to pass a resolution demanding the inclusion of a strong public option in any final health care bill.  The final language, which was drafted by Dante Atkins, can be found here.

Sam Stein reports that the Nebraska Democratic Party passed it today in a nearly unanimous vote.  Which is significant, because Ben Nelson remains one of the biggest obstacles to passing a public option

Larry Summers Aide Luring Veal Pen with Donor Cash at Common Purpose Meeting

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday October 6, 2009 3:15 pm

I once called AFR “utterly and completely useless,” but it appears I was wrong. They do have a purpose, namely — invite a big funder, Larry Summers’ Deputy Director of the White House Economic Council (Diana Farrell) and an Assistant Secretary of the Treasury (Michael Barr) to a weekly meeting run by a lobbyist (Erik Smith), to demonstrate what happens if you play ball and never question the Summers squad.
