Good morning Pups! I can say that, and really mean it… It is a good morning! I’m recuperating well and am able to do more and more every day. All in moderation of course. That’s my new word… I’m trying hard to master it.
Before you know it, I’ll be 100%! Of course, I still have to watch this infection and stay off of my leg as much as possible; but I’m definitely getting better. Thanks for all of your concern and advice. It was much needed and heeded.
Soon, I will be able to get my beloved Rashad again… I’ve missed him so much. It’s been almost three weeks since I’ve had him and I’m going through Godmommy withdrawal!
So, what’s new around the Lake? What have I missed? The holidays are rapidly approaching. Am I the only one not ready?

Happy Hallowe’en DeVeria, all candied up?
Good morning DeVeria. Very glad to hear you are on the mend.
Last night and tonight I’m volunteering to be a “caboose” for the Haunted Huguenot Street tours. It’s one of the more popular programs Historic Huguenot Street (I’m on the Board) does. I bought a witches hat for $2 just to be in the mood. BTW cabooses bring up the end of the tour, carry a flashlight and make sure everyone stays together in the dark, etc. It was a lot of fun, and all the stories are true in one way or another.
Ooops, I forgot the link.
Good morning! Not yet, but hopefully I will be by the time the trick o’treaters get here…
Now that sounds like fun!
Hi Elliott. I saw you were also up late last night. I didn’t get home from my volunteering until midnight. Tonight I didn’t get such a late assignment. But it saves my from contributing to the kids tooth decay & obesisty.
What are your plans?
Everyone was in a good mood, despite the tragic & macrabre stories. The kids these days, ya know, take all that in stride. Also, everyone kept together and no one fell, despite uneven ground, going into historic houses with funny steps, etc. There were about a dozen stops on the tour and each one lasted about an hour and a quater.
That sounds like a good way to spend the evening. One down, one more to go! Hopefully tonight will go as well.
I have no plans for tonight, been forever since I dressed up fro the holiday. The Haunted Tour sounds like fun.
Last night the weather was perfect, but it’s raining today. All but 4 of the stories are told outside, so I’m not sure what will happen if the rain is heavy. Umbrellas can handle light rain, which seems to be the forecast, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I’m not a costume person, but the witches hat was fun.
Morning all, All candied up here and ready except for last minute snow removal as globs of snow fall from the trees or blows onto walks.
ugh…rain. Well hopefully during that time it will ease up. Its supposed to rain here today too.
Snow for halloween. Wow
How much snow eventually fell?
It started Tuesday and quit sometime Thursday night. Melting fast though.
A little over two feet.
Wow. How often do you get storms of that size this early in the season? And does that augur for more of the same for the whole winter?
Personally, I love being snowed in. It happened one Christmas. Massive snowfall. My entire family was at my house and no one could leave. It may have not set well with the 20yr olds, but I loved it.
It varies. Year before last there were two snow storms within a week right around x’mas one was 3′ plus the other was about 33″.
I enjoy it too. I had kids and grandkids trapped. hehehe
OK. Coffee’s gone. I’m off to read, and perhaps to cook on this rainy day. Be well and don’t get spooked tonight.
DeVeria, I’m so glad you are on the mend. Was really worried about you there — learning moderation is really, really hard. I still struggle with it, but like to think of it as my zen lesson in life — can’t be Type A in everything or you crash, I suppose.
As to the holiday question, for once I have finished my Christmas shopping already, but for a few stray tiny things. It is a miracle, frankly, because I’m usually the one out scrambling through the insane crowds.
I decided to give myself a present this year and finish early so the holidays would be less hectic. And, through the miracle of the internets, most of my shopping got done online so I didn’t even have to wear myself out.
Truly, a miracle. Morning gang — how’s tricks? Or treats?
Have a good one! A nice pot of soup would be nice…
Hi Christy! Good to see you. Christmas shopping done already?! I’m impressed. I haven’t even made my list…
Nice to see you Christy. So, what’s Santa bringing the Peanut this year?
Good morning, DeVeria. Cute pic! I can’t make out what the costume is? I used to sew my kids’ costumes until they became “too cool” for that.
So glad to hear you are mending well! Keep on keepin’ on…
Ever since the kids left home, I’ve not had the umph to get in the mood for Halloween. I quit putting up decorations long before I lost my house. Buying Halloween candy, however, is still an option. :)
It was raining here last night, with wind gusts. I think the rain and wind howling created quite the spooky effect for the night…
Cue the eerie horror film music (classic horror film, that is)…
Hi Christy, been missing you. Sounds like things are well. I’m envious of that shopping done thing.
I know! Usually, I’m the one out late into the evening at the last minute because I haven’t had time to get to it.
I decided the best gift I could give myself this year was less stress about presents, which meant scaling back a little and shopping early.
Now if I can get them wrapped before The Peanut finds them. LOL
Morning Christy! This is a treat :)
Her big present is an American Girl doll this year. So a lot of the side presents are doll clothes and hair stuff to play with and that sort of thing.
She’s also getting several books on her Advanced Reader list for school — turns out she’s a reader like her parents and we’re trying to encourage it as much as possible. Along with a couple of new Wii games and some other fun stuff.
Hi Elliott! *waves*
And Mike, hope you are loaded up with groceries in the pantry. Doesn’t look like the sort of day to run out for a gallon of milk where you are today. Yikes!
Hi Christie – So good to see you here. Lucky you to have a child that is a reader. That is the best gift a parent can give a child – the love of reading. So many good things follow. Take care of yourself.
My granddaughter, Rylee, will be 7 on Dec 13. I am clueless as to what to get her and that is before I ever get to Christmas.
I miss those days. It’s been a lot of years since anyone believed in Santa. I’m thinking cash for my crew. Boring as hell but I think that’s what they’d like most. I might buy wallets to put it in…..boring, boring, boring.
Make it fun for yourself and buy everyone a joke present, too. Something from the dollar store or of garage sale caliber — we did that one year for family presents and hid the real ones, giving the joke present first. It was a blast.
Good morning, DeVeria, Christy and all,
It looks like today will be fun around here. There will be a party at our younger daughter’s best friend’s house. It starts in the afternoon for the Florida-Georgia football game and then the house is the base for the kids to trick or treat later. I just took a couple of large pork butts off the smoker for our contribution of pulled pork for the party [gotta eat those bits that stuck to the grill don't you know?]
Our older daughter is enjoying her freshman year at college, but we’re struggling with a few responsibility issues regarding her car. Couple of parking tickets, a very expensive traffic stop and then this week the car was towed from a friend’s apartment. She’s teetering on the edge of the car coming back here for the rest of the semester… Her grades are great, though, so it’s one of those very hard parental calls. We’ll have another discussion with her later this morning.
Welcome to you….we miss you often. I hope you are well.
I was in New Orleans earlier in the month….thought of you and your pictures!…..City is looking pretty good, but lots of folks not returning.
NPR had a Cheney story….
delighted to see your fonts, Christy; very happy that you are beginning to enjoy moderation — very worth while when you get the hang of it. You, too, DeVeria!
karen
It’s tough at this age, truly. The Peanut is at the stage where some stuff is “for babies” — not because she doesn’t still play with it, but because kids in her class are saying so. But they aren’t quite ready for some older stuff — and I’m not ready to give it, frankly.
I don’t know how Rylee is, but The Peanut always appreciates more Legos. She’s really tactile and enjoys the hands on building a lot.
Hey, Christy. Namaste. Nice to see ya. Sounds like things are going well.
Hello DeVeria, Christy and Pups.
Have had my hands full lately with these two darlin’s, but have a few minutes to finally welcome you DeVeria and welcome back Christy. Haven’t had puppies in so long, forgot how hectic it can be. They don’t do stairs well enough yet and carrying them outside and stepping over the kitteh safe gates has helped me drop eight lbs. in no time.
Me thinks reading here at the Lake influenced my name choices for the pups.
We have a Dept. of Justice, but are sorely in need of a Dept. of Truth.
Turning into a shadow of my former self.
Glad to see pups taking care of themselves and each other.
Peace and Puppies, bluejeansntshirt
They are, thanks — still very tired, but feeling better. And enjoying spending extra time with The Peanut.
Who, incidentally, will be Dorothy complete with a little Toto in a basket this evening for trick-or-treat.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. It’s never too early for an awwwwwww moment.
I’ll say!
Yeah…I think that’s how the weather here will be tonight. Definitely going to be inside…
One kitteh has been brave enough to sniff at the pups crate, the other happy to watch from way above(top of kitchen cabinets). slow and steady and hoping for peaceful co-habitation.
Maybe, but cash always works!
Happy Halloween and go Haks.
Here is a song that should buzz in your head all day long.

Good morning. New puppies…I can’t even imagine!
Pade — good to see you. :) How are your pooches doing? Mine has burrowed into a blanket by the heater vent for the duration of the winter, I think. *g*
Should be easy with puppies.
What is with the spell check red line under almost every word I type?
My folks gave my sister and me tin gift box(es ) of $1 coins one year — we were really mystified by the weighty box. Another possibility is “money puzzle” container from bits n pieces com.
karen
Cute!
Good Morning all!
Am I ready for the holidays? Um, this is the time of the year, when I say to myself, “shyte and shineolah, if you wanted to make/knit/bead all your holiday gifts this year, why in hades didn’t you start in July like you said you would last year at this time?”
And the circle is closed once again.
Blessed Halloween/Samhain everyone! It’s my major holiday, the only one I insist that ritual must be done on its proper day. I plan on walking in the woods enjoying the liminal time, making a Samhain feast, Pumpkin soup, pomengrate spinach salad, bread, and pumpkin ale cake. Then after the porch light goes out, I plan on my traditional descent of Persephone ritual and an honoring of the beloved dead, in my case, with special emphasis on my recently deceased mother.
Oh, and now, thanks to Pat Robertson, I have to find time to curse candy. Sigh. a witch’s work is never done.

Wonderful pups. Ours are a year apart, so we only had one pup at a time and they are 99% outdoor hounds. We love hounds–so devoted and polite. Ours patrol the property constantly in their quest to rid the world of squirrels.
That song was a fave of mine. My friends and I saw every horror pic growing up.
Zacherle the Cool Ghoul. Not Halloween w/o Zach.
It’s been a lot of years since anyone believed in Santa.
Wh…wh…what are you saying? I am verklempt.
OMG… ZACHERLE, That really takes me back. Do you remember Saturday morning Creature Double Feature?
My brother and I would watch every week; me from the couch and my brother, from behind the couch. LOL
Getting costumed up for a block party in New Jersey this evening- should be lots of fun. Have a Happy Halloween all.
Not much for them to point at, but their instincts kick in and they point at each other constantly. Sides splitting from laughter.
(((Christy))) Be well and weller, girl.
Does anybody dress up like Elvira, Mistress of the Dark anymore? It wasn’t uncommon to run into Ms Peterson in the store when I lived in LA.
Neat idea…
Good Morning DeVeria, Christy, and Firedogs,
bluejeans – adorable, simply adorable – it would be worse than blogging for me in that I wouldn’t do a damn thing all day but play with puppehs
DeVeria – glad to hear your leg is better – seems to be one of the more troubling aspects of MRSA (sp?) – finding the combo that works
Christy – there’s an old (but kinda hot) biker dude jumping up and down behind me blowing kisses – so very good to see you here, better yet to hear you’re doing better – mad love to all at Chez Smith
I remember one hilarious episode, at the scary scene they cut to Zach seated and eating popcorn. When the victim screamed Zach’s popcorn flew out of his hands. Ahhhh, saturday morning scream fests.
Hi, Dragon! Loved Elvira too. I don’t see many Elvira costumes in my neck of the woods but would lay odds there will be at least ten of them at the Henri David Ball in Philadelphia tonight, The drag queens LOVE her.
LOL!
Good Halloween morning, DeVeria, Christy and pups! *waves* Gloomy and sprinkling this morning in NW Indiana. Wouldn’t you know that today’s to-do list has “put away flower pots” on it? The big planter pots that graced my sidewalk and front stoop are now full of mostly frozen annuals and the occasional hardy geranium, and should have been cleaned out and put away a couple of weeks ago.
I have a bit of Christmas shopping done — not much. Three grandkids have early January birthdays, so I often buy a lot and then figure out what is Christmas and what is birthday. The 15 year old likes a shopping trip to the local guitar store for combined Christmas-birthday pleasures.
Christy, so happy to see you among us, and glad you’re doing well.
Just a drive-by — late getting started but MUST get going!
Oh, man, the drag queens in LA were simply beside themselves with Elvira. And she loved them.
Hope I can remember to turn my clocks back an hour tonight. It will probably take a week to get used to the early sunrise/sunset.
Wasn’t she part of the Paul Rubens crowd with Phil Hartman and Do De-? They were great.
I do believe you’re right.
wow – are you in Lake County ? only learned of it and it’s unique electoral niche (reality based) last November
One day I am going to be disciplined to knit…seems relaxing and like you said would make great gifts. Go ahead and get started!
where will the game be played ?? I’m counting on some serious smack btw you and ol FreeBird :D
Thanks for the reminder!
Not a fan of crate training but giving it a try. It’s highly recommended by the Monks of New Skete.
Find myself falling asleep f/o crate while watching them.
Doody calls!!! Time for another walk. Take care all. Be back soon.
I’m in South Bend — St. Joseph County. One of the more liberal areas, thanks to lots of university folks!
Jacksonville at 3:30. Nah, we don’t get into that. It’s pretty much limited to Go Dawgs, Go Gators. At the end of every game I figure I’ll live another week cuz I survived a number of heart attacks during the game.
I heard that. I’m happy that there will be at least two MD’s in the group I’m watching it with.
OU’s post season record has cured me of all that excitability.
Arf
Figured that might bring you out from the tree line. *g*
thx…getting beter and better everyday.
Bull gator
me too :D ‘zup Dawg!
Ah, farmers market, lap swimming and now I can settle in for another tubesfest! Sposed to be 90 down there to day huh?
Yeah, it’s just a little cold snap, though. Nothin’ to worry about. *g*
I hear they like cockers, my Lil Bit needs to stay away! We are going to go to the Emerald Coast for turkey week even though they shut down the Amberjack.
Sounds like you know where. Xin loi.
I think they’ll go after anything not bigger than themselves.
Only thing missin’ is the green skivies.
And that’s about everything in that AO!
Yep.
Gotta get my ass in gear if I’m gonna get anything accomplished today.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
I know…I have a long list today too…and I can’t forget the candy!
Morning Guys,
I’m 3 hours behind, and have only accomplished getting coffee made. There’s prolly something ungrammatical about that sentence, so you know I’m still half-asleep.
Emerald Coast? Is that where you fish? For Thanksgiving? Cool.
me too and it’s only 90 minutes till kickoff
I fish anywhere I can but the Emerald Coast is the Destin-Ft Walton Beach area east of Pensacola. It was a sleepy fishing village 20 years ago but they turned it into Atlanta south with all the huge putt-putts, waterparks and all that crap. The draw is the beautiful “blue water” and white sand beaches (which you cannot take dogs on). We rent a little house in Seagrove and the bride just chills for a week while I fish.
Sorry I missed CHS being here. Reading her comments was a real flash back for me. Still, felt yummy and cozy. Miss you lots hon, but am glad you’re getting energy back. You had to tell us that your shopping is done? Good grief, woman! Ha. Now you can spend several weeks baking. *g*
http://www.dodestin.com/
That sounds wonderful for both of you.
We’re going camping at Pismo Beach for Thanksgiving. Dogs okay on beach, on leash. We have a really long tether we take for him. This year my 22 year old and some of his buds are joining us.
http://www.family-vacation-getaways-at-los-angeles-theme-parks.com/Pismo-Beach-Camping.html
Different coasts, little different venues, but same theory — get out! And, only weeks away. I love having events to look forward to.
I may be EPUed but welcome back to all those that are or have been ill. I’m sure that Christy has felt the love that all FDLers send to her.
SouthernDragon, who are you choosing in the mayoral race? What do you think of Goliath Davis? My mother doesn’t want Ford, so she would take the other guy. As for Davis, she thinks that he is great.
I’m almost finished reading Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer again after many years. The book provides a timeless look at people and their actions in mass movements; it helps to explain our current situation in this country.
Redd on da thread! Yes!
The nation is secure.
Good day to all and glad things are looking up, DeVeria!
I live in Gulfport, which borders St Pete’s southern boundary, so I don’t get to vote. As with most races these days it’s the evil of 2 lessers. Foster is a fundie who at one time tried to have creationism taught in Pinellas County schools. Ford is a micro-manager whose personal interaction skills leave much to be desired. I’d have to go with Ford just to keep Foster out.
There’s been so much controversy in the past over Davis that I think any effectiveness he may have had has been greatly diminished. As a peace activist I don’t have a lot of affection for curret or former sheriffs or chiefs of police. The heat on the street are one thing, the chief is a tool of corrupt politicians, as evidenced by the barricades incident at BayWalk a few years ago. The mayor asked the chief (Harmon) to do something about the protesters. Harmon’s idea was to erect barracades in front of the complex, creating a disaster for patrons and protesters alike and a public relations nightmare for the city.
Good morning…
Okay, I was listening to the Women’s Show on WMNF and Mary started a segment on a group with an amazing lead singer, Moksha Sommer. The segment will be archived in a couple hours and I’ll come back and leave a link. In the meantime this is a shameless pimping of some fabulous music and an unbelievable personal story.

Thanks, SD, my mother has been rather house-bound for the last few years. Her rememberance of Davis and Ford’s mother (whom she sees in the current candidate) goes back many years.
