There’s an important lesson here as well. This unprecedented level of transparency can sometimes be confusing rather than providing clear information.

A lot of people visit the White House, up to 100,000 each month, with many of those folks coming to tour the buildings. Given this large amount of data, the records we are publishing today include a few “false positives” – names that make you think of a well-known person, but are actually someone else. In September, requests were submitted for the names of some famous or controversial figures (for example Michael Jordan, William Ayers, Michael Moore, Jeremiah Wright, Robert Kelly (“R. Kelly”), and Malik Shabazz). The well-known individuals with those names never actually came to the White House.

Wrt releasing the WH visitors logs -

Excellent example of why *any* WH would fight such a release tooth and nail…….cnn running with the short list of the names the reich wing hoped to find there – wright, ayers (sp?) etc.

OK, they knew this was going to happen. What’s so far past stupid that you can’t get there is the WH response (at least according to cnn) is that those were different people….just with the same names. Who the spit was the raving nut job delegated to formulating that response? kee-rist!

Good morning, pups. Gail Collins and Charles Blow are both off today, so Bob Herbert is flying solo. In “Constraining America’s Brightest” he says instead of getting a chance to set the world on fire, college graduates are facing a gloomy economy, unpaid internships and unemployment.

Yes. His actions don’t square with our expectations of where he would go or how he would get there.

Did we misunderstand him, did he mislead us or is he indulging in situational ethics? Or, as you suggest, is he tragically flawed in some way that overpowers his ethics, extraordinary intelligence and training?

With those questions outstanding, it’s difficult for me to form an opinion.

But newton is right, we know what we have to do.
