Well, if you can’t be eclectic…
Evening, Eureka
Eclectic poodle!
Good evening, newtonusr
Hi ES, Newton
And then, he pulls out a fav – head-banging with Mission of Burma.
All is right with the world.
hey margot!
Hey es, newton, margot.
Hiya Margot..)
Gettin’ the lead out
Good evening Sunny
Yow & Yipe! Missed you folks at LLN lately; had a damn case of the flu.
Love Cloud Control, yet I admire Mission of Burma; I say the logical conclusion is to CLOUD BURMA!
Wondered where you were; I hope you’re all better.
Hey Sunny. My younger son was telling me today he hated fall because it was too dark and rainy, and I thought of you.;)
sunny!
kelly… get your shot yet?
Wow KCD! Was wondering about you… and all this time I figured you were out being loud! and having fun…)
Glad you are getting better.
Newt, I did!
Yes.. Cloud is just fun, infectious even. (pun intended) Get’s better with each play. And the video is good.. over the top.
Yes, but Jimmy Fallon told you to. You had reminders.
Hey Chris!
And I did not… yet.
Love Jimmy…
and have had shots for 20 years!
Had my shot at fame; blew it!
If you’re talking about the flu thing, to late, human! I’m now immune by my own anti-bodies! I’m feeling safe about my usual clown-like appearances, wherever I go now.
It’s so nice…
I’m hoping to break a streak this year.
In the years I have gotten the shot, I have gotten a flu.
In the years I have not gotten the shot, I have not.
Something about dice, or black jack.
Six mos of the year in New Zealand might be pleasant;
Was forced to be quiet a-while; that was WEIRD!
Now back to being loud, and a little bit rude. In other words, the usual.
Chris, they’re out of them here. I called the health department the other day, and they said they had ordered more but didn’t know when or if they would get them. I get a flu shot every year, I’m kinda worried about this.
True.
8 months of the year in NM would be pleasant. The other 4 months would just be hot, but at least sunny.
Never get a flu shot.. had the flu once since I was a weee little one.
And running a swamp-cooler is considerably less expensive.
Did you ever attend the burning of Zozobra in Santa Fe?
ZOZOBRA! OMG! I have so many stupid and useless Zozobra stories to tell!
Back when, it used to be held in Ft. Marcy (Hah!) Park, and people would run down to downtown to the Plaza. THese days, it’s out at the race track – blergh.
Our house was where we could see it pretty well, so we never went to the place where everyone parked to watch it. But we watched every year. Did you?
It’s at the race track? Jeez I’ve been gone for so many years, I can’t keep up.
Yep – it’s so diminished now. But Fiestas Weekend still ends with the “Blessing of the Pets” in front of St. Francis.
I’m in Denver now, but still go down every couple of years.
I watched it from semi afar…. various spots in and around Santa Fe a few times. We are building one tomorrow in prep for next week.
Still can’t decide what i am going to be… maybe a zombie town crier. lol
Had flu for two weeks or so in 1973/74…..I’ll take any flu shot that comes down the pike! Never been sicker.
Some years I do, some I don’t. No rhyme or reason really. Probably should get on that and also a pneumonia shot. That has been way too long.
No idea about availability. Thank y’all for raising the issue.
Sorry, I can’t wait about Halloween! Here’s my 2007 “Toccata in Boo Minor”
But I just negotiated with me better half to help me make the new version; stupider and SCARIER!
Wait, ye mortals, and weep next Club Poodle…. MWA Hahahaha!
LOL!
I got the seasonal flu shot this year, about a month ago. I still ended up with dizziness earlier this week. Nausea and all the fun stuff, i just didn’t end up tossing the contents of my stomach entirely this time around. So far that runs 4 flu shots, twice getting the flu.
Considering that the local school my pharmacy is near is in the middle of a H1N1 outbreak. So we get all the parents after the Tamiflu and likely contagious too. Thankfully i can think straight again and only missed one day of work. Back to work tomorrow and to taking care of everyone else.
I’m already shaking in my pajamas.
Dude.. that ring! Don’t tase me..)
I’m 4 for 4.
I’m taking you to Vegas!
Dump your cheetos too, baby, I’m talking green screen and shit! TREMBLE before me!
I was going to make a Liberace joke!
Please do!
Kind of work you do.. they should make sure you get the shot… hopefully paying every penny.
Hi alias
Whoooo! Very very good, I liked that a lot!
Hi Alias. Is Tamiflu non-prescription?
Well both times have been different strains than what i got in the seasonal vaccine. *laughs* I’m just glad this was less dramatic than last time. Dizziness and nausea i could deal with, while i got my sinuses issues down to manageable proportions.
They’ve pretty much run out of the seasonal vaccine locally here in my part of michigan. The health department has the H1N1 vaccine but is taking its sweet time on dispensing it. I haven’t heard hide nor hair of anything for the immediately high risk groups getting clinics or when they’ll start publicly dispensing it.
Nah. You have the ring right, you just need about 8 more of them.
Late Late Night might have to be Halloween related all week next week… at least on my nights (M W F). So send me a link to the youtube when you post it KCD.
For the first time in years, every drug store in our area has no-waiting $30 flu shots. Last year and in past years, it was like getting sugar in 1942.
Yup. Once our pharmacists became certified to give immunizations in the store. The company started paying for the seasonal flu shots for the workers and their immediate family. It’d be nice if they’d pay for the pneumonia ones (every 5 years) but that’s too much to ask for.
Is tamiflu for everything (every kind of flu).. or just the Rumsfeld trust fund?
Oh that’s great.. I had no idea one could get it without a doctors visit.
WOOO! You have no idea – I was a pen pal of Liberace; no shit, I first wrote to him in 1974. We exchanged letters until I was 16, and I met him backstage in Phoenix in ‘78.
I was persona non grata in my Jesuit High school, let me tell you. But of course, the Liberace connection was not the only reason!
It’s RX only, Sunny.
There’s also a few things they dont’ tell you about on the news. You have to take it in the first 48 hours of the flu, and even then it won’t ‘cure’ it. It’ll shorten the time you’re down with the worst of it but if you miss that window? You might has well have not wasted the money.
It’s really good for the severe cases from what i’ve heard. The strain is resistant to all but Tamiflu(suspension and capsules), and the Relenza nasal spray. Otherwise, if you can beat it down in your own system, all the better. I should have gone to the doc’s myself, with the asthma issues i have.
I didn’t mostly because i figured i could fight it off in a few days. I’ll move slowly for the next 2 or 3 days but i’m up and going. It didn’t beat me, and if it had gotten any more severe i’d have gone in.
Right-o Comrade! Will do!
One of the best Carson guests ever.
He was terrific at the piano, too.
Beats me. I’m still confused about pneumonia shots. I’d thought they were good for evah or at least a decade or so. Seems not or maybe they are different now. alias???
As far as i know it’s every 5 years for the pneumonia vaccinations. I think its because it doesn’t mutate as quickly as the influenza virus does. I’m not sure how long its been like that, but that’s the way it works now.
I was surprised to hear about the chicken pox vaccine. Not available during my childhood, so my 3rd grade class had a few months there with a buncha kids out for 2 weeks in ’shifts’ as we all caught it and got over it.
Don’t feel bad… tonight is the first time I have ever heard of a pneumonia shot.
If I recall correctly, in my youth parents intentionally exposed kids to chicken pox (and measles?) to get it over with. Is it mumps that cause havoc with grown men?
Chicken pox.
The chicken pox can resurface later in life as shingles, which is a lot more painful. I’ve been hearing from a few of my patients that have gotten it this year. The shingles vaccine has been out for about 3 years now, but its expensive. Granted it’s supposed to be once in a lifetime vaccination but still. You’d have to check with the insurance plan you have on whether they’d pay it. The only ones i know that consistently pay for it are patients on medicare part D. So if you don’t have that, you’ll be charged abou 220$ or so.
Well,
As I recall, yeah, we (in the ’60s and early ’70s]cousins and neighbors) had chicken pox together as kids; the folks arranged it so we all had it together.
Mumps for males past puberty can lead to infertility, so if there was mumps around (which was starting go be rare, as the MMR [mumps, measles, rubella]shots were available, they put you next to it when you were pre-pubescent.
This was the 80s when i had the chickenpox. I wanna say 84 or 85. My memory is clear on when i got them, but my sense of the time itself is fuzzy at this point. So the vaccine had to have shown up in the last 20 odd years.
Of course, lice still shows up. *laughs* We have to stock up for that every school year. No way around it.
I got a resistant bronchial infection 10 or 12 yrs ago. My friend, a doc, got me through it. She insisted I have one – first I’d heard of it.
I no longer have a handy friend/physician or access to sample meds. Really should focus on this stuff. An ounce of prevention and all.
Mumps.
Edit: Never mind!
It was very dis-heartening in ‘84/’85 with AIDS patients succumbing to shit like shingles, as it was tied to other opportunistic infections. On Edit: Example, thrush.
I would see a healthy friend one day, and a dead friend 60 days later. Maddening, it was.
I’ve been self employed and uninsured for so long… medicine is something for when you are already dying.
Perhaps this whole prevention thing will catch on under a P.O. in post 2013.
Hey, this LLN has become far to serious – I say let us be joyful!
i dont’ doubt it. I wasn’t at the age to care about AIDS until a few years later. Now since i help others with those conditions (and my late onset asthma makes me a bit vulnerable too), i’m big on personal prevention. It doesn’t always work, but i think my system isn’t as weak as it could be considering i had a fairly healthy childhood without asthma. So i built up a good bit of immunities to stuff that would knock down lifetime asthmatics.
A minor thing, but an advantage in my work area.
ES,
I want the prevention thing to be more popular now. Trigger or after 2013? hell no. It has to start within a year. They got medicare part D up and running within 12 months. They can do the same with a public option–particularly if they use Medicare as a basis.
Man, that sucks.
My dear mother had shingles and it was horrible. Excruciatingly painful and debilitating. She was bedridden for months. The pain never went away 100%.
Knew it was related to some remnant of chicken pox left in the system, but sure didn’t know there was a vaccine. For anyone who has had c pox, it’s probably well worth investigating.
Amen to that, Alias.
Oddly enough.. all this prevention chat has not turned me into a raging hypochondriac. /s
Well, firedogs… Zozobra construction duty comes mid morning.. so I best bid you all a goodnight.
Thanks for sharing and teaching me a thing or two.
Good night all.
Grayson PWNS another repuke.
Ghod, can we get Grayson to move to the Calif 16th? Zoe Lofgren is a fucking corpse.
We’ve been talking about dentistry in Mexico. Makes one wonder if some of our ghod awful expensive vaccines might not be available there at more affordable costs.
OK Kelly, let’s lighten this up! Tell us your funniest joke. *G*
that is a beauty! thanks!
nite ES
G’nite Eureka. Sweet dreams.
OK – here goes!
G
Voila!
ES! You’re on the Zozobra team?
Fergawdssake, go and have a cocktail in the Dragon Room on Old Pecos Trail, if it’s still there. Have a Margarita for me either their or up in the tower at La Fonda.
Salud!
Newt, it just KILLS me, these MORONS screaming about “oh we have to get the US back to what the founders stated in the Constitution,” when they wouldn’t fucking know the Constitution from constipation.
Remember Katy Abram? She screeched about that but I promise you SHE doesn’t know constitution from constipation.
Does anyone else get the feeling we’re being washed away in a sea of stupidity?
“I’m in Denver now, but still go down every couple of years.”
Just FIX the damned thing and leave my private life outta this.
Living In A Wet Dream.
Blown seals, and all that . . . .
*G*
Yep.
And Alan Grayson is fast becoming the most dangerous man in DC. Pretty soon, with his ‘10 election behind him, he may turn his guns on the Democrats idiocy.
I sure hope they never rein him in. And the thing of it that really kills me (and yes, I’m dating myself by saying this) he reminds me an awful lot of the last decent republican (who ended up leaving the party in disgust) – Lowell Weicker.
Weicker was a man of integrity. I remember him having little truck with the swill the Watergate witnesses were trying to sell in the hearings.
Lowell Weicker was the last great republican. There’s probably dirt about him I don’t know but I remember thinking if repukes were more like Weicker, I might vote for them…but they’re not and never were…he was just an anomaly.
Weicker was defeated by… Joe Lieberman.
And yeah, a great Republican.
I lost a few pals, then. Peninsula.
Kelly, where were ya?
In SF, Bay Area?
I lost a few pals.
Yer fekking outta yer mind, and I lurvs you for that!
The stupidity is crazy making. The cynical hypocrites who feed and exploit it belong in hell.
The thing is, it’s not just in politics, it’s EVERYWHERE.
I’m SO fed up with stupid…so very weary. Our nation is dying and the vast majority don’t even see it…they’re more concerned about who’s going to win American Idol.
Pardon me, I have to go puke.
I think Holy Joe is done in four years. If he’s smart he’ll retire but I think he’ll be beaten – I hope Lamont runs against him again. I think Lamont would win today if they held that election.
Just sayin . . . ;-)
Phoenix at that point – let’s move past that, Larue.
I’m sorry I ever introduced flu, sickness or death into the thread. LLN is about fun and whatever else is in yer mind.
Howzabout Zozobra? It’s all about burning Old Man Gloom [I say that means yer Cheney types] in advance of WINTER!
Evidently it’s back at Ft. Marcy Park – Weee!
He found himself a way to slither into places that are easily defended, and the Democrats have been loathe to cut him down to size.
I don’t care where he goes or what he does – he has nine lives – but I would be happy if he had no influence of any kind over people’s lives, as this is where he does the most damage.
I’m not happy remembering the AIDS epidemic, the HIV scourage, and some pals I lost then.
So, I’ll say niters, wish everyone well, and think good thoughts for everyone in harm’s way.
And wish all of my LGBT pups the best of health, now and forever.
And I’ll wish all of you the care you want and need, when you want and need it.
As much as anyone, our health care system lets you all down so sorrowfully it’s deadly.
And there’s no reason why it should be that way.
Here’s to Health Care Reform for all.
For all.
*bows*
nite larue
i am out too
nite you,guys
Sometimes it’s difficult to find the bright spots that are out there. But they are out there. Witnes FDL.
I had shingles and it is painful. Read the other day that it is a virus which attaches itself to nerves. For some people it goes away and for some the pain last a lifetime. I discovered that there are drugs that will help the pain and intend to discuss it with my doctor the nest time I go in. I have pain in my lower back which brings me to a complete halt no matter where I am.
Night, y’all.
Bless your heart Twain. I suppose the pain is so severe because of the nerve involvement. Glad to hear there are new drugs. Very best of luck finding relief.
nite
Good morning, pups. Gail Collins is off today, so it’s just Mr. Blow and Mr. Herbert. Mr. Blow, in “The Magic of Michelle,” says this is America. We respect fearlessness, regardless of what we feel about the person who embodies it. With Michelle Obama, we have it both ways. Mr. Herbert, in “We Know What He Means,” asks why has Mayor Michael Bloomberg allowed Rudy Giuliani to fan the flames of racial tension while campaigning on his behalf?
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes this morning. I’ve gotten caught up with work, so I’m hoping that the rain will hold off long enough that I can get some work done planting the newly refurbished front bed with its winter plants, and weeding the asparagus patch of the few that persist in coming back up. Have a great day.
