ZEDDERooo Oooo!
hey nahant — nicely done — how’s the bay area tonight?
Heh, heh, Nahant and Suzanne!
cooling down… but that wood burner is earning it’s keep..
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
so is mine :)
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the Late Nite Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Yo Sister Suzanne…Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal, now it doesn’t get any better’n that to sooth the bruised spirit and wake a tired soul!! Keep the music comin’ so an old man ken maybe doze off and “perchance to dream”.
How’s the Late Nite crew been holdin’ up…are folks startin’ ta see some light from the Dark Man on this side of midnight?
KEEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE TROOPS ARE WAITIN’ FOR US TO BRING ‘EM HOME!!
Firewood all stacked. Working until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow, so I’m off to bed soon. But still, the weather is glorious and the trees are red, gold, and orange. We had a weekend in Amish country with pumpkins and such — a nice getaway from work and politics.
hey norske — you old retired soul you… how’s retirement treating ya? glad ya like the tune.
i drove over the hill to spend the afternoon with jen — the coast range was full of golds and rusts and beaverton had a lotta reds showing. tis a glorious fall up here.
hey norske — how about some of this?
It is my favorite time of year, always. And I BAKED!!! Gingerbread and a chicken dinner with gravy and all the veg to die for. MrCE in shock!
Citizen Suzanne:
Jest gettin’ started…wakin’ up to the reality that the “greatest generation” has left us Boomers…shit if I ever see fuckin’ Tom Brokow he’ll be dancin’ one leg short.
laughing — i’ve made two big pots of soup and a roast chicken in the past week. i’m just telling myself that i’m stocking up for my next post extraction period… i see the dentist for more friday
Suz, thanks for the glorious music, makes my soul sing.
i’m so glad for the colors of fall.
hey margot — how ya doing tonight? i reallly do think fall is an underappreciated season — so much color and the smells — foods baking, soups simmering, wood smoke in the crisp air…. i love it
Oh Suzanne, the dentist is waiting for me…
Margot, hey! I was in Wooster at the Moorcroft Pottery.
Citizen Suzanne:
Ah you wonderful bundle a love…Barry White, I think I ken go back ta sleep now…thanx, dear.
my pleasure dood — g’nite norske
Evening all. When my new car actually happens, I’ll be ready for a road trip. Maybe head to the hills and see if I can meet-up with Waccamaw, if she’s up there.
Though I’m not crazy about autumn, it would be a cool leaf trip.
hey sunny — what part of the country is that? when ya expecting to get that new to you car? i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed for ya
Not all of them.. my sweetie’s Dad just turned 91 and he going strong… the old codger :)
And MrCE’s Dad just turned 89 — and old Hump Pilot who flew over China-Burma. He just left for a drive to California…god help people on the highways.
night train
Suz, i do too, usually. It’s better in bright sunshine and arid blue skies, but I’ll take what I can get.
Chris, I haven’t heard of that pottery, I bet there are scads I’ve never heard of within a 50 mile radius. Glad you had fun!
sunshine is good for more than just politics…. nothing purtier than fall colors against a bright blue sky…
Oh I like that, new singer for me.
*sigh* the orionid meteor shower is at its best tonight… local midnight time is the best time to see them but we have clouds moving in already — i’m gonna miss them again.
tab benoit is a forking great guitar player. i’m still lookiing for a fdl worthy video of his to front page
Seems the DMV has inspected the car and signed off on a new title for the seller, so it’s now (hopefully) just the state processing paper. Glad I’m not shepherding the process.
I’ve not driven it yet… that too is a factor. Guess it’ll happen when it happens :-)
I knmow what you mean *g* I watched him drive through a red arrow…
fingers and toes — your mechanic said it would be a great car for ya… and ya do trust him. it will happen when it is meant to happen i guess
duane
Suz!!!! Yo LLN Pups! Wassup!
Why I fell for Taj, Hard, Long Ago.
Great vid, Suz, two of my fav’s . . . she still brangs it, note for note with voice and her git, don’t she.
And Taj? No one should have that much fun like he does . . he’s been a delight for decades, as Bonnie.
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
evening, firedawgs
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay tonight?
Thanks – feeling pretty confident. Kinda sad about giving up my car, but I’m the only person in my sphere who is *g*.
‘cept possibly my mechanic – when I started whining about change, he helpfully pointed out my car could be totally restored for 18 grand. At that point my family would probably helpfully have me committed.
yikes. you are making the right choice and he is looking out for ya. you are lucky you have a great mechanic. i had george when i was in b/c and i have yet to find a replacement — knocking on wood that i’ve not had the need to find one…
Hi Suz — another nice day here, how’s everything in OR?
Quiet and cool, just the way I like it! *G*
Sunny, what do you have and what are you trying to buy?
clouded over and warmed up — storm off the coast coming to rain tomorrow and then again friday. fall in the pacific northwest :)
ccr
larue — i was wanting a good video of taj doing josephine but couldn’t find one
The Album
Right smack dab 1969 in the middle of all the Bay Area Rock, and all that other CA and US and Brit Rock, comes this double album with all it’s acoustic glory, eclectic electric and soulful of singin from Taj and his pals.
Was and is, one of my fav of all times. It goes with me to the desert island.
Check it out, listen to the tunage if you’ve never heard this. And for $7.98, just GET the danged thang! *G*
Taj in his electric blues band mode . . . Hammond Organ, two horns . . . sweet!!! *G* Good song, too.
Somewhere in ‘69/’70 or so I saw Taj at Winterland when he had the tuba’s and stuff. THAT was fun! *G*
Elvin Bishop with Jo Baker and Stevie Miller on Hammond B-3 (from Lynn County, NOT Stevie Guitar Miller) closed.
Elvin joined Taj, Taj joined Elvin.
Sweet! Only time I saw Taj.
So, I chased them all off again? Even Nahant?
Sigh . . .
sweet — hella show dood. you saw some of the best shows larue
i don’t think it is you larue — the entire thread tonight has been on the q word side
almost 30 y/o bmw 320i (not collectible) – 5y/o 325i (being foreclosed u/mechanics lien (thus the uncertainties).
pretty much a no brainer, I’m just recreationally whining.
laughing — i totally get that and have been known to do some recreational whine myself
Well, if YOUR car has original motor, tranny, and such, and the NEWER car does too, sounds like yer trading up!!!
Long ago, I had a high school pal who went thru 3 BMW 2002 Tii’s. All four speeds. Wrecked all three of them. And lived to talk about it. Only ONCE was he drunk with a girlfriend in the car. She had whiplash, but recovered fine.
He was lucky to be alive. I rode with him a few times. He was a good driver, but raced it like there was a LaMan’s going on. After riding with him twice to go to shows in SF from San Mateo, I drove the rest of the times in my ‘61 Volvo B-16 122S. Four door sedan, not turtle back, 4 speed. I drove it at 55. *G*
I think I saved a few lives . . . ;-)
i love those old turtlebacks. my cousin neal and i used to take his out into the open muddy fields. part of my learning to drive was learning to control skids in his turtleback.
Nahant was here earlier?
I was 15 and licensed in early ‘68. I lived in San Mateo, 25 minutes to Winterland, Fillmore, Great American Music Hall, Avalon Ballroom, Playland At The Beach (Helms had Avalon and Playland, aka Family Dog).
I was lucky, I was in the right place.
And before that, I had an older sister that HAD to take me with her, and saw incredible shows LONG before I could drive.
I was luck! And I took THOROUGH advantage of it thru ‘76 or so, and even after that . . .
But from ‘68-’72, I was at a show every Fri/Sat night almost every weekend . . . *G*
If I don’t quit talking about my car, LLN may go dark for a week *g*.
he got the zed
Dang! I took MY Volvo out to the Foster City salt flats, and learned how to drive fast and safe out there!
Too funny!!!
707!!!
So that’s what you call it …. schweet!
this was down in san jose/cupertino off hamilton west of 880…. aunt edna and uncle lyn had a place there when i was a teen.
I got lost in the YouTubes. I’m leaving bread crumbs next time.
A GREAT way to really learn how to drive, huh!!
I rode motor cycles, too, in them times, so I KNEW there was danger I needed to work on to prevent me from doing bad things at the wrong times.
Tossing an old Volvo into a skid at 55 and learning how to counter steer properly was a good thing to learn.
Also, even on 4 wheels, there’s a weight shift and balance that imprinted on my memory, so on my siccles I had this imprint to work with . . . learning how to use brakes, clutches and throttles for all purposes was a good thing.
And the more I learnt, the slower I tended to drive. On the siccle, on my own, fuggedabout it. But with a passenger I rode like and old lady. And they always got the helmet, if I didn’t have two.
I had an angel on my shoulder, more than a few times long ago . . . at that, I also was lucky. *G*
Call what?
*G*
And avoid the gingerbread house!!!
*eek*
lmao… you beat me to it
I’m back..
I got a foodie question. Anyone here familiar w/ ham and butter sandwiches? Is that a regional thing?
My favorite car was a hand-me-down from my sis. 1964 Dodge Dart with the push button transmission.
It was a veritable tank. I hit a bus in NYC and there was no dent, except on the bus. Gave it to my niece and it finally gave out after 312,000. miles. You still see them on the road today.
Next was my parents 1967 green caddy. It had the best stereo, so I drove my friends everywhere.
Best new car was my 1988 white Mustang LX. Best $12 K I’ve spent. Gave it to my nephew, who jacked it up, painted it purple/blue and has garaged it.
hey emerson….how’s the east bay tonight?
that’s a new one for me. i’ve heard of peanut butter and butter but not ham and butter
Zed = first response in the thread, apparently
Hey Nahant
Hi emerson, long time no see!
ES was recently talking about his old Valiant(?)with a push-button transmission.
waiting to see if I can get a look at the meteor storm. Couldn’t see it last time (August?) Hi Suz-good luck with Fridays visit.
hey ppd how ya doin?
i was clouded over then too :( haven’t seen a shower since i moved to oregon.
and thanks
Doood! We wuz just sanging, er, I was, sangin the praises of 101 from San Mateo To SF back da day! *G*
A road to rock! *G*
Hey Sunny, hope you get the BMW. I drive an old one now-1989, 500 series. Love it.
Have seen 2 or 3 references to them recently, sounds ummmm.. unhealthy.
I vividly recall the push button tranny on old Dodge Dart’s. One other Dodge car had that, I think?
Dodge made some good solid cars for a while back then.
And yeah, they was HEAVY METAL, they was!!! lol
good thanks – how’s everything in RC?
no worse than that bacon cheeseburger served with glazed donuts for buns
Bingo, THAT was the other push button one.
Dodge Dart, and PLYMOUTH Valiant!
Thanks!
I found a link with a photo that looks yummy, but it mentioned dijon mustard and that always makes me hungry.
edit—3rd photo down.
but I do miss all the live music that was here on the Peninsular… so many good venues are gone(:((
That is seriously disgusting (kinda funny, also).
Sounds like a nightmare on KFC Street, Suz
Did you catch Frontline tonight, Nahant?
Loved that car, Larue. Sis had the 100,000 party, I had the 200,000 party, and my niece the 300,000. Had no trouble doing 80 on the highways at 95 (car years) *g*
OK here in RC, They are having a one ring circus downtown this weekend,Zoppe Italian Family Circus. check out their website and run the video…
Hey emerson
What up, PPD?
Thank you Margot.
It does look good :-) From the description sounds like good butter is key and I occasionally have access to same. Uh Oh.
made me hungry — had to go snag my container of birthday mousse jen sent home with me last night.
It’s your big chance to run away with the circus, Nahant
not much new here, how’s everything up north?
LOL
Just one of those proverbial bridges that you can jump off when you get to it, SN
well time to hit the rack… nite Pups
g’nite nahant
Niters Nahant, good to chat witch a bit.
Barney Steele’s.
THAT place rocked for decades.
Sigh, indeed.
keystone
night Nahant
Time to turn in, too – night everyone
I just went and google’d two places I lived in San Mateo, from ‘63 thru ‘88.
Wow, map lets you zoom in on the actual photo of said addy!
Now, I KNEW this, but had not DONE this for two said addy’s.
Wow. Change is wierd, donkey.
And the memories come flooding back.
Whew. Talk about space and time continuums.
Ok, back to reality . . lol
g’nite ppd
i’ve gotten as lost in google earth as i have in the utubes…
No viz for the showers tonite, AGAIN! Oh well…
Keystone Palo Alto, and SF.
BOTH fine venues in their times!!!
There were two small club venues in Berkeley I used to hit, can’t for the LIFE of me recall what they were.
Was there a Keystone Berkeley, where Jerry Garcia and Merle Suanders used to gig at?
And I’m NOT talking about the sacred old, or new, Freight And Salvage, that was mostly acoustic stuff.
Hmm . . . two clubs in Berkeley, ‘68-78 . . . anyone? One on Shattuck, for sure. The other I think, on Telegraph, where else? LOLOLOL
take care, Suz
:( same here dangnabit
Really frightening, ain’t it . . . what a rush.
i think there was a keystone berkeley besides the one in palo alto.
there was a great place in Albany on Solano called Earl’s. When I first moved here in 1982, we used to go there every Friday night to see Ray Obiedo’s band “Rhythmus 21.”
They were incredible. Haven’t seen Ray in a while.
Here’s some later Ray.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOy-5PtIjss

whoa-just discovered this. Obiedo at Yoshi’s last year. VERY smooth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5DV3lqotuw
starting to rain. time for me to batten down my hatches after making sure token gets to save a tree before it gets too wet outside for the wussy little guy.
thanks for all the good conversations and tunes tonight. g’nite
a great exit song….. thanks emerson
Kinda got lost…nite, Suz.
Don’t recall THAT place, but Ray was a very special musician, and EVERYONE wanted him in a band, on a recording, or to be in HIS band. Nice vid you posted, BTW.
Suz, yep, Keystone had Berkeley, Palo Alto, and SF.
And it WAS one of them venue’s in Berkeley I was trying to recall.
Can’t remember if it was on Shattuck or Telegraph . . . but that’s ONE of them.
Wierd night of tripping on the past for me . . . . lotta old memories rushing back . . ;-)
Oh, well then, niters all, and also, thanks for the chats!
Keystone Berkley Larue! I once saw a Jimmy Hendrix tribute band there and boy was the lead guitarist/singer GREAT!! Hey and don’t forget the Farm House in Redwood city… That place had great live music from Wednesday thru Sunday… those were the days(:>))
