Duh.
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel continued the assault during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Said Emanuel:
It’s not so much a conflict with Fox News. I suppose the way to look at it and the way … the president looks at it, we look at it is: It’s not a news organization so much as it has a perspective. And that’s a different take. And more importantly, is not have the CNNs and the others in the world basically be led in following Fox, as if what they’re trying to do is a legitimate news organization.
Meanwhile, Fox News Anchor Chris Wallace said Sunday the White House is refusing to provide guests for talk shows on that channel.

About Firedoglake
saying fox isn’t news is the same thing as saying blueberry pie isn’t a sprots car
it’s obvious to everyone but I guess the few idiots that watch.
what was done very nicely was the point that real organisations shouldn’t treat drama tv with credibility
24 hour political ads is not news? this is not a hard concept even for the talkshow hosts.
A friend who watches Faux once started telling me what the Libruls were saying, that anyone opposed to Obama’s candidacy was a racist. Of course, when I asked her where she was hearing Libruls say that, the answer of course, abashedly, was Faux. I just giggled.
In other news, water is wet.
The WH going on Fuxnewz is akin to them sitting down with reps of the KKK or Aryan Nation or any other reichwing group b/c that’s what Fuxnewz is — and always has been. It’s just that the lazyass MSM lulled itself into an 8 yr. self-induced coma and pretended that Fux was a legitimate news organization, contrary to reality and common sense.
I never once heard any MSM outlet object to the fact that, during the Cheney/Bush regime, Fuxnewz served as the WH’s (& goppies’) official mouthpiece — in direct violation of the 1948 Act that specifically prohibited the establishment of government-sponsored propaganda outlets. And now, they’re like, oh well — it’s history so why bother reporting on it?
It’s been my observation that the really crazy people out there are the same ones who demand that they be taken seriously, no matter how outrageous they act or sound, and they get extremely upset when someone refuses to pay them the compliment of rational objection, especially when they display exceptional stupidity.
democracynow is doing in-depth coverage of the terrorist attack in Iran, which got barely any coverage in the MSM.
I understand the disgraced former House Majority Leader tom Delay has dropped off dancing with the stars Chris. Why not give him a call. What about Dick and Dick-less Cheney. They’re always good for a talking point or two.
Hey Chris Wallace, wasn’t it Fox News who has refused many times to not air speeches of President Obama? Yep! So stuff a cantaloupe in it for crying out loud! You’re not a news organization. You’re the PR arm of the republic party where you use your time brainwashing your cult members, organizing protests across this country, and none of you at Fox report any real news….just the opinions of the American Taliban (republic party)!
About time the Dems played tough.
Payback is a Bitch.
Faux News is gonna be around for a long time ,long time.
Rupert has tons of money to keep his propaganda mill in operation for years to come and there are more than enough cement heads out there that will watch this crap and never catch on that it’s just one big long political editorial.
I honestly think this fight is kinda dumb. It certainly isn’t going to hurt Fox.
Rulers have often used the “bread and circuses” game to appease the peasants. This push to start a fight with Faux ‘news’ is a circus, designed to distract people from real issues. Who wouldn’t want to cheer the White House as they take shots at Faux ‘news’? Who wouldn’t want to join with the White House in taking shots at Faux ‘news’?
I’d rather stay focused on substantive issues, and encourage people to do the same.
We don’t need to hold Republicans or Faux ‘news’ accountable for the immanent failure of Democrats to advance real health care reform.
Rep. Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the DCCC, sent out an email two days ago saying that we should blame Republicans and Glenn Beck and hold them accountable.
Nonsense.
The failure of the White House to shame Senate Blue Dogs publicly and to push immoral jackals like Mike Ross out of the way so that they can reform health care and create real choice with a public health insurance option should be the topic.
Actually that does pass for news on Fox. A year or so ago I was in Texas when the hurricane was hitting Galveston and my parents had Fox on the whole time. At one point one of the announcers said something to the effect that you’ll get wet if you go out in the rain.
News you can use…
Not surprising.
Did they have any of those human dipsticks standing in water up to their hips to show how deep it was.
I agree that it’s a sideshow to distract the masses, deliberately launched by O administration.
Does Fox actually have reporters?
Hear! Hear!
Rupert has lost a million or more a year on The Weekly Neocon but I don’t think he has enough dust to keep FuxGnus on the air indefinitely. If, if, we could effectively boycott advertisers FuxGnus could well go the way of the dodo bird.
Today in 1781 General Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, VA. We have to work to get Rupert to show his white flag.
I wouldn’t know – I can not tolerate watching it and haven’t in years.
I never understood why any Democrat consented to go on Fox, other than the weak, bought-and-paid-for staff. It’s not like any legitmate Democrat would ever convince any inveterate Fox listener of anything.
Sure ,it will focus attention on Fox ( not totally unwanted) and embolden Obama’s critics even more.
The tea baggers and the birthers and the death panel morons will use this as evidence that Obama and the WH are criticizing Fox for pointing out the ” truth ” about Obama and his agenda.
I’m not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that it’s not in O’s self-interest to launch this fight and therefore they didn’t do it deliberately, or they didn’t think about the consequences before doing it, or something else?
It wouldn’t be so bad if they could argue a point however they, like Lou Dobbs, use an interrogation tactic and don’t allow the guests they disagree with to speak in complete sentences.
you know what I realise?
the propagandists on the right are using the playbook they think they’ve taken from the left
we called the administration non legit, we called them fascist, we called them unconstitutional, etc
we had basis for our charges but the right wing doesn’t need basis for their charge, they see it organized the left and they think it will organinze the right
Glenn Beck will be all over it today: “Watch white house wording. ‘Fox is abt Profit’ REMEMBER then watch 2morrow. 1st Amendment under attack. ALL AMERICANS need 2 know.”
No doubt about it here.
I heard Myspace is in trouble too and the Wallstreetjournal is losing readers I think Rupert put up Newscorp stock as collateral to buy the Journal that stock has since gone down remember Enron the stock went down the banks demanded more stock.
‘…represents a point of view,” is a fair analysis.
However, the reality of 60 votes can be done on the PO is a fair analysis too.
The White House should remain strong on the “point of view” argument and get the PO through too.
The losers of faux ‘news’ have never had a problem playing the part of the villains… er, I mean, the victims… well, no, I mean the freedom fighters.
I also saw a piece a while back that the Dow Jone Index might go on the block. Even if that didn’t happen Rupert could borrow a bunch using WSJ as collateral.
To use a couple of biblical analogies, Democrats appearing on Fox is like “casting your pearls before the swine.” And if Fox allowed legitimate discussion/debate, it would be a case of the “salt losing its saltiness.” Their devotees would fall soon fall away. In a gross over generalization, I think Fox listeners are often losers who get satisfaction from vicarious bullying and blaming others.
Burris has announced that he won’t vote for a bill that doesn’t have the PO. While he has displayed some flakey characteristics, I tend to think he’s serious about this. He has nothing to lose.
We’ve turned to them on the rare occasion we were curious to see how they were spinning some event. But, that hasn’t happened often or recently. My unprofessional opinion on why their numbers are up is that Misery Loves Company theory. Maybe because people are so miserable, their pocketbooks hurt, they want to glory in all the angry finger pointing. They don’t have that Bush on the deck of a ship and every other place cheerleading and saying how fabulous darlings we are. Instead, they have someone being serious, among a lot of other things. Does my theory hold any water?
I noticed all the WH house people on the Sunday shout shows danced around the PO issue. One would think if the WH really wanted a PO in a health care reform bill they’d be shouting it from the rooftops. I see a meatless bone being thrown to the masses to keep us under control.
Does Burris make 53 senators who support the po?
Btw, you did well yesterday in the discussion of “50 ways to show the obama administration some love” to say your piece and exit. I tried to follow your commendable lead and failed.
Ah but with lower circulation numbers the number of papers sold and less ad revenue from those papers Rupert could never borrow against the Journal what he paid for it.
Burris has nothing to lose… but he has a lot to gain. I have little doubt that if the White House sets him up with a nice consulting job he will roll over for them, unfortunately.
Good Morning….Is refused to NOT the worst sentence we’ve ever seen? Not even sure what it is saying.
Cheers All…I was away, then came back to the log-in difficulties. Hope all is well.
While we are on the press: I saw a ridiculous piece from Steve & Cokie Roberts in which they minimized the issue of domestic violence when it come to women’s health. I have not yet re-located the piece. Any suggestions for calling out the stupidity or their lack of knowledge about the dangers of violence against women? Thanks
Fox News – not really news.
Fox News Watchers – not interested in reality.
I have to say that I’ve been thinking a lot in the last couple of days about my new label “Progressive.” Not sure if that’s my label from me, or if that’s how the elected types and their staffs see me when they see Firedoglake.
It just seems so odd that, Burris aside for a moment, moderate politicians appear to be moving to the left by strongly supporting the public option. They appear to be pushing the White House and Congressional leadership. They are made to appear so far to the left.
What?
The White House and Congressional leadership moved to the center-right when they started talking all slippery about the public option not being very central. They’re the ones who moved away from the moderate position and people like me, the majority of Americans who are very much in favor of a public health insurance option.
It shouldn’t have to take political courage to support the public option.
So what are Reid and the White House doing, dammit?
I haven’t kept track of how senators are declaring they will vote.
WRT helping O do the right thing, I agree with Toby that we don’t have any other choice, but I don’t think it will do any good because O has no interest in doing the right thing. He’s just looking for a way of buttering his bread without people realizing how they’ve been snookered. So I didn’t want to spend any more time on a futile exercise.
Besides I’m reading a good book on the foundation of Australia as a prison colony, something I knew nothing about. So that was a better way to spend my time. The book is 600 pages long, so it takes a lot of time to read. *g*
Mixed Race idiot Judge on my TV..he can hardly speak the English language…people born in the situation are not accepted/didn’t want
to put people in that situation. This guy is a little more closely
related to the apes…
Good point. I hadn’t thought about the ability to bribe him.
Axelrod pulled up a bit short by not calling it a propaganda and indoctrination arm of the Republican Party.
Welcome back. Missed ya.
Has the missing link been found?
The foundation of Australia as a prison colony? I knew that criminals went to Australia, but I thought it was by choice (i.e. to flee). What’s the title of the book?
Alan Grayson calls them knuckle draggers.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Irak: 4350
US KIA Afghanistan: 881
US MBS 2009: 36,084
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
(((Jane)))
Namaste
David Axelrod also said yesterday on ABC’s “This Week” that major banks and financial instititions are spending “tens of millions of dollars lobbying the Congress to try and stop financial regulatory reform, to stop the kind of reforms that we need to prevent the disaster we just saw and to protect consumers. And that is most offensive.”
Now I wish Axelrod had spoken more about that!
Hi, Bev
Is that the judge who refused to sign a marriage license? So, he gets to worry about the difficult life any children from the marriage would produce? So judgemental and just wrong! The story had me going. Humanity took a big step backwards with that story.
Try statistics are not pregnant women more likely to die at the hands of a boyfriend, husband (mention Lacy Peterson) or family member than any other cause even with our lousy healthcare system.
Or you could go old school what kind of a Man would hit a woman? What kind of a Man would stay after he hit a Woman and what kind of Freak is Cokie to argue hitting woman is not that big of a deal.
You could point out that Cokie is a GOPer and people like Cokie are the reason why Dems get the Woman vote, heck Dems want her to keep saying stuff like this especially after 30 GOP senators voted that Rape is ok.
Scarecrow is upstairs…
The Fatal Shore by Robert Hughes. It was a deliberate policy of Great Britain to “transport” criminals instead of building prisons at home. Pretty horrific treatment detailed.
What are you saying?
Not sure if O would have been better off just ignoring them.
Fox is gonna benefit from the added attention.
Never mind saw Demi’s comment.
Sounds like something worth reading. Unpleasant reading, but important.
Our illustrious state of Georgia (sorry, Raven) was also a destination for those in England sentenced to “transporation.”
Thanks…so did Angela. Melded to my body. Hope you are OK.
Yes, missing link located…sadly in LA.
A LA official who refused to marry a mixed race couple…they are going to sue and Jindal has called him out….as someone said, This is 2009 & illegal….but who cares. Claims his concern is for the children who are not accepted, like Obama, I guess.
and his critics will claim this is a government attempt to silence opposition.
More of that government takeover stuff
I was wondering if that was the book you were referring to. 20 years old but was a great read.
Rough weekend, but yeah, we’re okay. Ya might want to check out yesterday’s Caturday.
I was hoping someone would know where they usually write/publish. I did not keep a copy and have not found an online link, Oct 9, I think. My local paper never has their wisdom, that I have seen. Thanks for your comments.
This was actually a long time coming. Those idiots at the networks have basically been called out by the Whitehouse. Continue to report the garbage that fox creates and you’re complicit in the media malpractice that is rampant today. I kept waiting for Rahm to bring up Michelle Malkin’s appearance a few months ago on This Week. He should have smacked Georgie with that one. This was a great move by the administration. Parrot fox “news” and you’ll be proven to be the lemmings that you are. They should be treated as the National Enquirer of tv news!
They can posture about Fox News all they want, but until they toss the fuckers out of the White House Press Corps, they’re supporting Fox’s legitimacy as a news organization.
I’ve probably been boring you all with this take on the RhamObama long range strategy, but give it a think. It is my view that it is an important consideration in how we Liberals plan our own strategies. We must take into consideration that the Obama administration may just not want us in their party. Their criticism is toward not just the wings of the Right but the majority Democratic liberals while fawning on any GOPer who will listen to them.
I think they believe the country will be more stable by forming a big business oriented Conservative Party, in fact, if not name, distinct from Dem/GOP. suggests this would be catastrophic but who knows?
The tactic of continuously dissing the far right wingos and as well progressive/liberals in the Democratic Party is very similar to the Reagan style of dismissing liberal Republicans while bringing into the GOP conservative Democrats and crazies not normally party affiliated.
How can Liberal/Progressives make ourselves wanted? Voters. Grassroots. and maintaining some cohesive sense of identity. i.e. stop running from the label. I am heartened by the support among the grassroots for our vision for health care and the environment.
There was something in the Washington Post this morning about the WH now allowing administration officials to appear on Fox News (as read on Washington Journal). So it looks like Obama’s going to go ahead and legitimize them.
Meanwhile, Fox News Anchor Chris Wallace said Sunday the White House is refusing to provide guests for talk shows on that channel.
No rush on calling the WAAAHM-bulance.
Glad you’re back, RevBev. I found that article. Whoo boy. She’s dead wrong about it affecting very few women.
…and a dress is not an armchair.
Haven’t read the book but I know that in 1800 the penalty for thefts in excess of a shilling (@ 30-40 cents) was transport to Australia.
And Rahm is apparently Captain Obvious.
Thank you. I got the link….I was sickened at the stupidity. I’m having ongoing sign in trouble….
