Weird. I mean, I’ve been reading Power Line for years, and this is the first inkling I’ve ever had that they were even a little bit odd. Blerp.
Or not. But then, there IS a Sensible Conservatism, you know — Just ask Rick Moran!
Anyone who is familiar at all with commenters on the internet and especially, the words and thoughts expressed by Beck and Limbaugh knows that this is 100% true. The thing is, some of what they believe is correct; the mocking of their beliefs and values by elites and liberals is not imagined. Of course, part of the problem is that these beliefs and values are squeezed through a paranoid worldview which is so far beyond reality that it becomes easy to slight them.
Oh right. “Elitism” consists of telling people with a paranoid worldview that their worldview is paranoid. Also, we should “shrink the government” even though that has never meant anything when the GOP has been in charge.
Anyway, what could Glenn Beck ever tell these people that they wouldn’t swallow? That Obama is a space alien zombie? That his “Czars” are Nazi laser biker hypnotists? That voting makes you gay? One shudders to think.

About Firedoglake
sathersday nite scary!
David Dayen is d day? From Hullaballoo? I had no idea.
I’m willing to bet that if Beck came out in favor of a single-payer universal health care system, his fans would not only not believe him, they’d force him to seek police protection.
That’s scarey.
SaThersday night fever!
The wrongwing has long been delusional, they just quit being embarrassed about it.
The coyotes are howling & yipping in my back yard. No kidding.
well, we had an antiwar protest in Philly and I’m happy to report that we saw no sign of any teabaggers. ‘Course it was rainy and a bit cold for parts of our demonstration, so that probably scared ‘em off, but hey!
SaTherday nite live!
Voting makes you gay!
Spread the word; maybe they’ll believe it and stay home on election day.
One can only hope.
What???!!! No iced-tea-baggers?
Yeah, makes their bones ache. So, if we just plan all our demos for this winter, we should be able to protest in peace?
(not that I’m suggestng ageism – we are hardly all youngsters on our own side, right)
I know, it’s weird.
I suspect a Sinister Plot.
It is a giant leftwing conspiracy to conquer the world, make everyone gay marry and have gay abortions!
Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.
*looking around suspiciously*
Back in ’03 I think it was, we had a protest out near the river. We had a bit of rain, nothing that forced us all to open our umbrellas. There’s a covered section of the park. Guess where all the rough, tough pro-war counter-protesters were!
With every provocation. First dday shows up on Hullabaloo, then he shows up here as David Dayen. Something truly suspicious going on.
remember shiny side out
Umm, may I raise something I’ve been wondering about? Since the revamp, I notice Christy’s off the top ribbon and her posts in a CHS Archive.
Does this mean it’s definite, that she won’t ever be able to come back?
Don’t get me wrong, she needs to do what her health requires, obviously; but it makes me wonder if she is in worse condition than we thought.
And, gawd knows, I really miss her writing. Was just hoping she might be healthy enough relatively soon to return…
True neocon behavior.
Oh,
too2 funny. So THAT’s what I’ve been doing wrong all along!
Yeah, it’s true, we do mock them for their values and behavior…but, what other reaction is possible? That nobody likes being mocked doesn’t mean we’re wrong!
they’d turn on Beck in a heartbeat if Beck had the temerity to say that Obama was really and truly born in the United States.
i’m hopeful she will return tejan
Bill Maher had a funny line about the teabaggers last night, something like, “Teabagging used to refer to draping your testicles on someone’s face, then conservatives came along and turned it into something absurd and disgusting.”
Has there been any update on Kobe?
Does anyone here have a sense, like me, that some kind of tide has turned in the last 10 days or so? Something has changed. The Beckster’s no longer seem to have traction. It is as if the MSM finally woke up –not entirely — old habits die hard. But in some way, one has the sense we are seeing a turnaround. The old tricks — the Muslim intern mole story, for example — are being put in the pigeon hole of standard Rove wingnuttery. That is lethal to wingnuttery. It’s what Andy Warhol said: fifteen minutes of fame, and you’re history. Wingnuttery is becoming history. It has overdrawn it’s fifteen-minute balance.
At this point, Beck could tell his followers that eating a live kitten will protect them from the evil socialist Muslim Obama…and they’d ask if they can coat the kitten in beer batter first.
You haven’t heard then; he passed away this morning. there’s a link on Jane’s seminal diary look about 10 am
In fairness, a lug nut would probably be edible if you dipped it in batter and deep-fried it.
bad news this morning :(
# RIP Kobe Matisse Rose. He was — and is — the very best part of me.
lol Thers!
Thanks, Suze. I think about her a lot, wondering if she’s feeling better. I know her illness is not one subject to overnight cure.
Or that he was a very moderate centrist and not a Nazi or a socialist.
Thanks for the info, albeit it terrible news. Peace to Jane and Kobe.
I dunno about edible, but it would be a lot tastier.
Jane’s twitter feed has more.
last i heard the break was having benefits for her. i hope they continue and she may be able to post an occasional post in the future if she is not able to return to blogging either part or full time.
It’s a health thing, but also a family thing. She’s pretty well overall, as far as I know, but is doing as she should and focusing her energy on her nearest.
Kind of sorry I asked in the middle of a late night thread but I’ve been wondering all day. I feel so bad for Jane, many of my favorite people have been critters.
Thinking about Jane and Kobe a lot, too, since her post yesterday about Kobe’s fight.
She made him so real in her descriptions I almost feel like I knew him.
It was, I think, during the Plame story days that she travelled across country (moving, I guess from Cal to DC), visiting folks who would have pumpkin muffins for Kobe. And Lord knows, I’ve been through the lost beloved dog and cat too many times myself.
You know their life span is shorter than ours, but when it happens, it’s just terrible.
Hey mang!
Thanks, Peterr. Breaks my heart some more, reading the updates. May have to log off soon to play with and hug my own furry critters.
Focus groups aren’t science.
Just ask John McCain and Sarah Palin.
They are a useful, if somewhat limited, tool in social science research, but are never really representative so you need lots of them and they are really hard to do well (herding cats is a good analogy).
I never said they were science.
I said they were SCIENCE!
Very different.
Hmm, a post seems to be hanging in space somewhere –
Anybody watching SNL? Actually made me laugh – some good wish fulfillment, too.
he became a cry baby instead of a ‘voice’. his crying jags have diminished him along with his crying wolf way too often.
hanging in space?
He has gone so far over the top (and the edge) that even the Villagers are beginning to realize that he isn’t “A Serious Person (TM),” even if he is a rightwing whackjob.
You mean crying like this?
Yeah, I did one saying thanks to you and Thers for the update – not appearing. Maybe I somehow erased it instead of hitting submit? Dunno – the opening Sat. Night Live skit kinda distracted me…
I’d like to see Barack Obama turn into the Rock Obama, wouldn’t you? Scare a few Blue Dogs and Repubs to death?
And they got Ms. Snowe just right, too. Now, if Harry Reid and the Prez could see her that clearly they’d quit sucking up to her and we might get somewhere.
yes — that is what i was trying so inartfully to say. he is well on his way to becoming a joke.
I don’t know if this has been posted at FDL yet, but I think it is just hilariouis. The NY Times, for some reason, maybe just to be stupid, is trying to defend Limbaugh in the NFL ownership bid flap. It published two idiotic opinion pieces. Well, published one and republished another.
I’m not sure, but it looks like the first attempts (are you sitting down?, have a drink in your mouth?) to defend Limbaugh on the racial bigotry front by pointing out that one or two racist remarkrs were misattributed to Limbaugh.
But, dude, Limbaugh is to rancid blundering racism what Mark Twain is to humor. People are going to attribute all sorts of quotes to him becuase he is the first person that comes to mind in the realm of stupid racism. Some commenters demolish the piece by listing enough authentic quotes of Limbaughs that provide enough racism for several life times.

Weekend Opinionator: Rush, the Rams and Racism
By Tobin Harshaw
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/?scp=1-spot&sq=opinionator&st=Search
The next thing they do is reprint a dumb column from 6 years ago by McWhorter defending Limbaugh’s remark that sports writers go easy on black quarterbacks out of some deluded PC attitude about affirmative action. I suppose McWhorter is half-correct: IF what Limbaugh said was anywhere near the truth, it would be within bounds. But, I was a kid watching the NFL in the early 1970s, and Limbaugh is living in fantasy land if he thinks that the sportscasters went easy on the first wave of black NFL quarterbacks. I remember very well their comments, which were not particularly supportive at all. In fact, I remember them as being dismissive: it was OK to diss a black QB on the grounds that ‘The NFL wasn’t ready for a black quarterback” Whahh?
I guess saying 100% ignorant dumbass things about the history of the NFL as a tryout NFL sportscaster is ‘within bounds’ these days.

So, the NYTime seems ready to follow the Washington Post in committing suicide by asinine.
i double checked and nothing got caught in any filters… maybe you did close it by mistake.
Yeah. You know you are in trouble when even the villagers get the joke.
His style and persona or tenuous grasp of reality don’t really matter, the Villagers will respect him as long as he has the ratings.
Yeah, I wonder if Jimmy the Greek would get fired in the same circumstances today? Anything goes, it seems, if it riles people up enough to watch.
Pinch ain’t no Punch. Ditto WaPoo heirs.
The key here is that the Villagers hate to look silly and they are beginning to realize that paying attention to Beck makes them look silly.
Probably. Oh well. The skit really got my attention….Anybody see it?
doesnt air on the west coast for several more hours…
LOL LOL, this is why I love you so, always the purrrrrfect links…….
Oh shit, did I say that out loud?????
Whoops.
The Villagers wouldn’t know silly even if Colbert rubbed their noses in it.
eventually they will decide that he really wasn’t one of them. that will be the worst cut of all for beck.
I guess maybe Limbaugh thinks Jimmy the Greek got fired in the late 1980s for stating the obvious truth that Afrcan-Americans were ‘bred’ during slavery days to have stronger thighs. Maybe that is where Limbaugh got his odd counterfactual notions.
Ohhh, I forgot. Well, check it out. Even if you don’t find it hilarious, there’s some wish fulfillment.
I’m suddenly overcome with a craving for chocolate ice cream. Think I have to run out before the store closes.
Try to behave, y’all. ; )
Yes they would just like they turned on Graham crakcer for calling beck and limpballs crazy.
It’s been my experience that she worked way too hard here and with her family with someone who has a disabling condition. I was one of several who encouraged her to get outside help. What with the FIL and the Peanut and all she was doing here. Dunno, but I miss her presence here a lot. I’m thankful that she’s taking care of herself. I love Christy. A lot. People need to watch their loved ones and Do Something.
Saying this with love.
*laughing*
Yeah, that’s close enough.
Bill Maher=Funny. New Rules rules. I rarely miss his show.
Yet I STILL haven’t Religiousity, or whatever the name of his film was. Man I want to see that.
can ya pick me up some willie nelson peach cobbler ice cream while you are there?
Yeah, absolutely. I used to read about her doings, esp after the FIL moved in, and wonder how the heck she did it all.
Really, I’m glad she’s taking care of herself now; I just miss her lovely voice.
They’ll get over it…
Sure. Back in a sec. Will pass it right thru the innertoobz.
I guess that’s good although I hadn’t noticed since I really don’t pay attention to the Villagers any more than I pay attention to Beck. They might not engage in his type of histrionics but they don’t impart useful information either.
Wow, do they really make that?
Could someone clue in a newbie???
Who is Kobe? Sorry, I read the link from Suzanne, and it looked like a Jane twit, and I am sooooo confused.
ben and jerrys — has chunks of peach and pie crust cobbler bits. tis summer in a pint
Jane’s beloved canine companion. Very dear to all of us here as well.
Who would do that? Really? Get a helper, that’s all I’m saying.
We have to take care of each other.
I mean, I’m so sorry that Jane’s Kobe passed, (((Kobe))) but Christy busted her hump here and had folks at home to take care. Know what I mean? Sorry if this sounds harsh.
jane’s dog. the lake’s mascot. one of the dogs of firedoglake
Kobe is one of Jane Hamsher’s massively large and distinguished poodle dawgs.
And I am very sorry Christy had to quit blogging. I miss her very much and hope her health improves.
In edit: I did not know Kobe is gone. Been traveling and not able to keep up much recently.
No. They are what we called the “Soc’s” in high school (preppies or future frat boys and sorority girls). All about appearances and knowing the right people, having the right clothes, and going to the right parties. Shallow, vapid, self absorbed, and stupid.
no one is saying that one is suffering more than the other demi.
I’ve been avoiding ice cream for the past few years but that sounds too good to resist.
Time for me to toddle off. I am going to try to go for a hike tomorrow if it doesn’t rain. Got to enjoy the nice weather while we have it. Take care all.
Nite Dr
Didn’t thing anyone was saying that, Suzanne. What?
Oh, I think he would still have gotten the sack today. The only difference would be that there would be a legion of morons railing about how unfair it was to fire him.
G’nite.
Believe I’ll head out too. Treated Bob to some apple tonight, think I’ll treat both of us to a little extra shuteye. Splendid evening to all.
Nite, Rat
ok – sorry — i must have read it wrong. my apologies.
I must have miss spoked. Don’t understand your comment. At all.
OH, ok.
Wow. Thanks for explaining.
Lost enough pets in my life to know how that hurts.
Dammit.
No problemo.
It’s difficult online sometimes.
I saw a post today in washingtonmonthly or whorunsgov about a study that was done on the Republican base’s mindset. It turns out that they really, really are not mentally functional. They really do believe that Obama is trying to destroy the US by spending it into a hole. They don’t know for sure who he is trying to benefit, but they are sure that he is working for our “enemies.” There is no way to reach these people so the only thing to do is to try to quarantine them, maybe in South Carolina or someplace (a couple counties in West Texas?) where they can’t do too much damage, and let them secede and have their own country.
Avoiding ice cream????
WTF??????
That. Just. Seems. So. Wrong. To. Me.
(But then I am Old FAT Guy)
We’re eating Breyer’s, vanilla with caramel right now. Hell, Saturday night!
Sleepy too, have to drift. Bon soir.
Sometimes I think ‘let the wingnuts secede’ is a solution, but we cannot have a failed state on our border! That would be dangerous.
g’nite thers sleep well
Hey Demi,
just wanted to thank you for the Sleepytime tea last night.
*wink*
(Hubby still watchin????)
Yeah, there was a couple of posts about that study here today.
Funny stuff, but not so funny if one considers the similarities(spelling???) between this shit today and similar shit about 75 years ago in another country.
Funny and scary all at the same time.
I found the comments especially enlightening (scary) as some posted about personal experiences with friends/family becoming “delusional” since Obama’s election.
We’re making history as we speak!!! Just hope it’s the right side of history.
sleeptime wishes for all the sleepyheads
Yep. We hang out together a lot, but not watching the lake activties. Right now he’s watching a move. Want some ice cream? Breyer’s isn’t Haagan Daz, a little flatter than that, but it’s still good.
It’s not just the wingnuts who are paranoid delusional. It’s the Blue Dogs and O’s economics team, to name just a couple of other groups.
OMFG!!!!
Did I mention that you have the best links???
That was so KEEEWWWWWLLLL!
katymine sent me that one… tis the perfect video for saying g’nites
Delusional happens. Everywhere. Just read the comments.
Oh yeah, I know that.
It’s just I think the difference is (if I understood the gist of the stuff written today) that the Blue Dogs and O’s economic team are very aware of what they’re doing; they’re just another part of the “providers” of the delusional shit (like, say FauxNews). Whereas the common folk that buys that shit up are the ones that are actually delusional in the sense that they believe it (well, they believe it when FauxNews says it, maybe not when the Blue Dogs say it).
Anyway, subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless.
I resemble that remark.
Maybe it’s the caramel. I dunno. *g*
Gonna go read now. Nite all.
Niters Demi.
Stay kewl.
g’nite demi
Here ya go, Suzanne:
http://www.benjerry.com/flavors/our-flavors/#product_id=111
I get your distinction, but am not sure about your assertion that BD & O’s economic team knows what they’re doing. I think they have many characteristics of True Believers.
Who do they think spent us into the hole we’re currently in? It sure as hell wasn’t Obama.
Wipe up the caramel. It’ll attract the ants.
Sweet dreams when you get there.
G’nite, Suzanne. Whatever else, we gotta stick together, yes?
yummy! thanks tejan
we are family
nah. If we made them stop voting, however irresponsibly, they’ll probably resort to violence instead.
I’m having some of this in Dutch Chocolate:
http://www.bluebell.com/the_little_creamery/our_history
Blue Bell Ice Cream – one of the gooood things about Texas.
And I’d better go scoop before it melts. Good nite, all you pups!
Yeah, good point that.
Man we need our country back SOOOOO badly.
g’nite tejan — thanks and enjoy your chocolate yummyness
beats having a failed state within our borders ;-P
Yep. I’m reading Love In The Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I just love books. And, tea.
Ooh, good choice. I forgot to say, as I slurp up my ice cream I plan to read my birthday-present-to-me – bio of FDR, “A Traitor to his Class.”
Yeah, that looked good enough to eat…….
[get your mind out of the gutter people, it was ICE CREAM, OK??]
[Besides, my mind resides in the gutter, no need for company]
I’m not sure it’s worth having.
Do you understand it? I’m a fiction moron. I made myself read the whole book and didn’t understand a bit of it.
Ha. I get enough of traitors watching and reading about our politics. But, you enjoy. I will too.
Really, nitey nite to all, now.
This place is so seductive. Must. Go. Lie. Down. Lay Down.
Just finished an Ann Tyler novel that doped me. I had to go online to read that others didn’t get it either. Still, I love fiction. You know I’m a bit off the normal.
Sometimes I wonder myself….
but most times I feel like it is.
But then again I’ve had a fortunate life, and might be misguided I guess. I hear about the suffering of others and it makes me wonder too.
Sorry, didn’t mean to get into a downer…
BACK TO THE ICE CREAM!!!!!!
in their little minds, there are Patriot Dollars and Commie Dollars. Patriot Dollars are funds expended on waging holy war against islamofascists, whatever those are, and bailing out corrupt corporate monopolies so that they can make god’s country safe for capitalism. Commie Dollars are funds expended by Kenyan-born alien presidents for death panels as part of the Vast Acorn Conspiracy.
forkers never ever bring up the cost of fighiing two wars when they are whining about the forking budget and deficits *spitting*
Those same forkers never seem to bring up the cost of tax cuts for the rich either, irregardless of the wars or budget situation.
Funny that.
Given them an isalnd in the South Pacific somewhere. ‘m sure we have some that can be spared. (They might be ones that glow gently at night, but that’s okay. Then they wouldn’t need any night lights to keep the spooks from getting them.)
I had a guy telling me the economy is All Obama’s Fault the other morning on the train. (He also claims he was spat on when he came back from Nam, which makes me wonder how well connected he actually is.)
they just plug their fingers in their ears and chant trickle down over and over
The Bartlett book salon was really scary. The guy (asshole) converted from one monoidea to another. He understands nothing. I’ve recently developed an antipathy to converts, and Bartlett is a perfect example of why.
I want a dove bar and I want it now!
LOL, yep.
The really funny (sad?) part is, so gawddammed many folks at the bottom that never see a penny of the “trickle” buy into it hook, line, & sinker. That’s the delusional part, methinks.
If every American voted “selfishly,” i.e. in their own interests, we’d actually be better off!!! But so goddammed many people have been convinced (brainwashed?) into believing that what’s best for the rich is what’s best for everybody that it fucks it up for all of us.
Whoops…. got off into one of my rants….
Sorry. Maybe I need to click on the “We Are Family” link again.
Does 911 apply to a Dove Bar emergency?
Good idea. I’ll call and ask them ;-0
It certainly SHOULD!!!!
Of course, when the wingnuts have their way with everything, the call to 911 will cost you $10.00, the ambulance to your house will cost you $225.00, and the trip to the store to get the Dove Bar will cost you another $75.00. Plus the $2.25 for the Dove Bar.
Mmmm, $312.25 for a Dove Bar?????
IT’S WORTH IT, RIGHT???
You overlooked the cost of bail and defense counsel.
