As somebody named “David Dayen” (he’ll always be “d day” to me, dammit) wrote earlier, it appears that there has been revealed a Newly Released Scientific Report which suggests — using SCIENCE! — that the Conservative Base is composed primarily of “delusional paranoids” who believe everything Glenn Beck says and are essentially the sort of people who are eventually discovered dumb dead and stark naked except for their track shoes, horribly disappointed about the non-arrival of some fervently promised Alien Disco Mothership.

Weird. I mean, I’ve been reading Power Line for years, and this is the first inkling I’ve ever had that they were even a little bit odd. Blerp.

Or not. But then, there IS a Sensible Conservatism, you know — Just ask Rick Moran!

Anyone who is familiar at all with commenters on the internet and especially, the words and thoughts expressed by Beck and Limbaugh knows that this is 100% true. The thing is, some of what they believe is correct; the mocking of their beliefs and values by elites and liberals is not imagined. Of course, part of the problem is that these beliefs and values are squeezed through a paranoid worldview which is so far beyond reality that it becomes easy to slight them.

Oh right. “Elitism” consists of telling people with a paranoid worldview that their worldview is paranoid. Also, we should “shrink the government” even though that has never meant anything when the GOP has been in charge.

Anyway, what could Glenn Beck ever tell these people that they wouldn’t swallow? That Obama is a space alien zombie? That his “Czars” are Nazi laser biker hypnotists? That voting makes you gay? One shudders to think.
