hiya suze!
hey ndfg — how ya doing
Hi guys! Just passing by on my way to bed.
Jankees win!!!!! Jankees win!!!!!! Jankees win!!!!!!
belated happy b’day suze.
nice to see ya gnome.. sleep well
thanks bfl — f the f’ing yankee (as gilly would say)
how ya been?
A recipe with poison ivy as an ingredient! Perfect. I have 40 acres of it. It’s the next best thing to using poison ivy as a cure for cancer.
so here’s me, right? I been watchin’ the Jankees-Angels playoff game since 8 o’clock our time. What a game, right? It just ended at about 1:15. 13 innings. So they get through 12 and a half of them and then whose ugly mug do they show? America’s Crossdresser. Giuliani. A classic playoff game. Why did they have to do that?
This Dodger fan gives you a Bronx Cheer.
I wasn’t going to say that, but yes, FTFY. I stayed up late to watch them lose, dammit!
And belated happy birthday!
heheheheheh how’s life on the hudson?
hey spotts — how’s life treating ya?
Not too bad. Had been brutally hot down here right up into the beginning of the week but it looks like it’s getting nice. Other than the weather it’s the same ol’ stuff pretty much. How ’bout you? Didja have a big-deal of a b’day. I really don’t do birthdays.
Hey, great toon tonight Suz!!! That witch turned right into you at the end!!!!
Come on now, be honest, that’s why you picked it, wasnt’ it????
Oh wait, does that mean you used to be a witch?????
So confusing?????????
Had some coyotes yipping and howling in my backyard earlier. Must have been those roast beef scraps I threw out on the lawn.
twas a day alone but not lonely. was filled with love and brought me joy.
a good thing
heheheheh i always loved witch hazel
how’s virginia tonight ofguy?
I’m only gonna say this once ’cause I don’t wanna get people mad….. but the Yankees are the greatest franchise in the history of North American sports. Nice try Celtics and Canadiens. Forget it Lakers. All you haters really oughta stop.
Eh – same ol’ same ol’. At least now I’m out of the collections business and doing something more people-positive.
laughing
you are so easy to tweak dood
yay!
You and my wingnut son have the Yankees in common.
good. i know what you mean. about “alone but not lonely” anyway. some people HAVE to be around other people all the time (and some of them insist on being the center of attention all the time). which is fine i guess. but i like .. and need…. some solitude.
i do solo very well. i could do hermit easily so have to be on guard for that and force myself to leave the house and go into town at least once a week.
Rainy, and cold…… weatherman says a good chance to see our first flakes tonight. I believe it.
Good thing I’ve been nipping at this Wild Turkey……
errm, ahm, what I meant was it’s a good thing wild turkey season is coming in soon.
I love the flying hairpins. Heh heh heh.
Heh. We have hermithood-almost in common. There are days when I talk to no other human.
that was a tweak? OK. Growing up it was a Mets-Yankees thing and since I moved south there are some serious Yankees haters. I’m not used to being tweaked about the Jankees. Alot of people take it seriously. My poor son could only stay awake until about the 10th inning and he fell asleep on my shoulder and I kept waking him up. Finally i let him be.
Where are you at???
Sorry, I know it’s none of my business, but for some reason my memory was telling me you were east coast, and I wasn’t aware of coyotes here. (Well, maybe further north I guess).
Mind sharing where you’re at??
Suzanne!
Just finished watching an old movie: “The Hustler”. Damn, Paul Newman was young!
Minnesota Fats was a fat guy, bu not that old.
heh!
my pal jack daniels and his partner jimmie beam
hey starbuck — how ya doing dood?
Yep, me too. In fact, that’s all I do….
wait,
what were you talking about again???
*Blush*
“Bit of a hermit.”
“A hermit. With… friends?”
“Hermits United. We meet up every ten years. Swap stories about caves. It’s good fun… for a hermit.”
hehehehehe hey that guy – how’s the bay area tonight?
every hermit needs a good internet connection
Mid-Hudson, i.e. halfway between NYC & Albany. (I also have an apt in NYC, but have spent most of my time in the country for the last year and a half.) I have coyote dens on my property, and when I was bushhogging earlier this week, I saw one or two (maybe the same one twice) between the road and the river. Didn’t know they were there. Thought they were in the back 40 only. Also have bears. I haven’t seen one, but had claw marks on the trunk of a red cedar.
Heh. Sounds like just my kind of group. *g*
Same weather here. Where’s that Bailey’s….
Doing well, Suzanne. Happy belated birthday. Makes you a Libra, right?
Last week, my SO and I spent a couple of days at the Painted Hills near Mitchell. Stayed at an old hotel there called the Oregon Hotel. Met a young woman from Missoula doing a solo bike trip to Arcata CA by way of Portland, Salem and Eugene. Pretty cold and windy for me.
She has moxie, I say!
hey margot — second cabinet on the left, top shelf center.
thanks — i’m a double nickle libra. sounds like a wonderful trip starbuck.
to be young again :) i used to run white water rapids for fun.
I prefer to think of it as being reclusive.
Ahh,
thanks. Didn’t mean to pry, was curious.
I’ve seen plenty of bears in the wild, but I’m having a hard time recalling seeing coyotes. It must be that they’re north of here (I’m mid-Atlantic, northern Virginia). I’ve hunted (sorry…) my whole life and don’t think I’ve ever seen a coyote in the wild.
What kind of bears?? Just plain black bears??
How on earth did you know that!
hey sunny — my girls say if it is 40 miles from BFE, mom will love it :)
its right next to the tequila
Find someone to take you again.
I used to do rock climbing. My hunter friend is one of the best rock climbers in the U.S. He volunteered to take my up, after 2 decades of not doing it. It was great for awhile, but then he led me up an easy, but psychy climb. I decided I didn’t enjoy the adrenaline rush any more. It was the best way to put childish toys away.
LOL, you’re not missing any are you???
LOL no, it’s right next to the olive oil. What can I say, bottles fit where they fit.
I ran the Snake and the John Day in my youth.
Jeeze! Did you hear that? My “youth”.
WTF!
tis not the lack of somebody — tis my body. the fake knee and 5 bulging discs in my back limit what i can and can not do.
Did your friend (or you) ever climb at Smith Rocks in Oregon?
i’ve ran the merced, american, the stan, folsom and… shit i can’t remember any others.
thangs that i used to do
The Snake was a pretty wild run. Would you believe that the entire week until the last day at Lewiston ID was cold, cloudy and rainy? Then the sun broke out.
Hunting is fine with me. I let one friend hunt on my property inexchange for dibs. Maybe my beekeeper will hunt here too this year, though he doesn’t seem to be following thru.
Coyotes seem to be pretty common around here. Never saw one in the “wild,” ie in my backpacking days, though.
Black bears. Had an interesting encounter while hiking around the Skyline Drive, not too far from your neighborhood. Stopped for the night at a leanto. There was a local guy there too. He put our backpacks on the roof, which he correctly said the bears couldn’t reach even with the cubs on momma’s shoulders. A mom & 2 cubs came wandering by, up to the road. The cubs came back down first, followed about 15 minutes later by mom. She investigated our camp thoroughly before she decided we hadn’t waylaid her kids, after which she moved out.
always wanted to do the snake and the colorado…
nope.;)
Oh dear. Not a nice way to put away childish toys. So sorry.
Nope. Mostly Schwangunks, 3 miles as the crow flies from my house, and the best rock climbing in the east.
Did some climbing in Yosemite (no big walls) and did the Grand Teton with the guide service.
You look at their heroes, and the heroes of the game in their pinstripes from LONG long ago, pre Ruth, even.
And from Ruth/Gehrig up to now.
They out win, and out class MLB. Period.
Tonight, due to their heritage, and composure, they beat the Halo’s on two mistakes.
Pitch had Arod down 0-2. On two mediocre fastballs, at 88mph.
All he had to do was throw the hook, or change up. Woulda had Arod tied up in knots.
But NO, some idjit calls for another mediocre fastball, AWAY, so Arod can extend and drive it to the short porch!
STUPID STUPID STUPID!
And the game ender, the two bagger for the Halo’s does NOT play sound beizbol, but tries for superhuman useless status and throws it away.
Note to Halo’s. Some basics:
1) Baseball is a game of inches.
2) It’s played one day at a time.
3) It’s played one GAME at a time.
4) It’s played one INNING at a time.
5) It’s played one OUT at a time.
6) It’s played one PITCH at a time.
Bronx Bombers in 4, Halo’s blew their season makeup out the door, and played like hacks at times despite one of the greatest pitching games ever on both sides.
Halo’s choked, and it was that Pinstripe History they choked on.
No panache, no kewl in the clutch, no clue as to do the routine and execute the basics is what cost them.
Go Yanks. They were done and finished on the bench and in the bullpen!!
But the Halo’s let them up off the mat.
Bad Halo’s, specially given they came into this series with a rep for BASIC EXECUTION and fundamental baseball.
Irony.
Harumph.

Bay area is fairly warm for almost 2300 – 65F. A neighbor’s cat has adopted us and visits a lot so we got a dogloo for him to hang in when it’s cold and wet.
Both trips were a freebie as well. Actually, I provided a slide show of the trip for the leader. But the Snake was a wash, photographically speaking.
This last trip I went back to some of the places on the John Day and looked around. Didn’t recognize a thing any more.
I went on a day trip rafting on the Rio Grande, many years ago. Most fun ever.
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
warmer here last night that it was this afternoon. at 3am it was 64 outside and my high today was 58.
Did the Salmon with a guide service and several interesting women. It was August and the water was pretty calm.
You could bet bour buns with that stuff!!! *G*
*le sigh* i’m gonna raft the colorado and not work the paddles. i’m sure i can handle a day trip… and can cross it off my list.
i remember — your trip with molly :)
i figure doing the colorado i would also be able to cross the grand canyon off my list
Two shots espresso.
Mix one packet of hot chocolate with milk and bring to boil and reduce heat.
Add one shot brandy.
Add one shot Peppermint Schnapps.
Add espresso.
Add one shot Bailey’s.
Stir, pour to cups.
Top with lil marshmellows.
Sleep well.
*G*
You betcha.
you come sit here next to me hon
BFE? internet acronym finder didn’t help..
Surely we aren’t talking Egypt or Boyfriends :-) Or are we?
BFE
Funny thing. When I stopped at Smith Rocks last Saturday on my way back home, the place was emptying out of a horde of climbers. There had to be between $100,000 and $200,000 in climbing gear spread all over the parking lot. People looked grim (and cccold!) One guy had a bigger pack loaded to the seams just for a climb than I carry for a several day trip to the mountains.
There is a short climb in the saddle of the rock wall that I climbed in the 60′s, camera, tripod and no ropes. I had to leave the tripod behind half way up because I actually needed both hands to climb. Rested the Hasselblad on a flat rock at the edge to get the shot I was after.
Now when I look at all that gear and the wall it self, I ask myself, “What was I thinking?”
Did some quick shots with a digital camera and drove on.
Age does that to you.
i hear ya — i think to myself is there a nice lounge with big windows i can sit and watch ?
Looks pretty spectacular to me, and looks like you had no business climbing without gear.
Oh, here’s a good Smith Rocks climb. Only a 5.12. (Best I got was 5.7.)
Hey Suz . . . 80F today, mid 50′s tonite, and temps droppin day and night.
Got ‘maters on the front porch still growin, flowerin and producin fruits!
Insane! Yellow pears. I’ll have fruits from them till December, if it don’t hard frost.
Other than that, a great ball game tonite had my attention.
And lovin the new News Desk, DDAY, and all that Greg Levine and Mz. Hamsher have done lately.
And a sad farewell to Kobe, and hearts out to Mz. Hamsher for her loss.
Just heard about that. They walked a lot of miles together, them two.
Good miles, too, they walked together. That’s it from here, back to you, Sistah Suz.
Of course *g* What was I doing in that wimpy acronym finder ?
(I’ve even got the urban dictionary on speed dial)
Here’s the toughtest climb I ever did.
Added on edit: It’s harder for a short person because the reach traversing to where the climber in the photo is was nearly impossible for me.
a very sad day all the way around larue….
stormy but not much rain — lotta wind blowing the mist sideways
That big U shaped area is where I went up.
Hey! Joel Palmer, when working on the Barlow Road on the Oregon Trail climbed a glacier on Mt. Hood ( now named after him) in the 1840′s, in just his moccasins. For relaxation after helping carve the road during the week.
Just because some people do crazy things and survive is no reason for the rest of us to copy.
how cool — after watching ken burns national parks series, i’ve started a new list to visit the national parks.
Hey Margot.
Have you found a solution for your computer sniffles?
Didn’t know that until after I did my little thingy.
But then, John Muir rode out a storm at the top of a tree just to experience what the tree experienced. I didn’t climb a tree but it was really windy that day. Somewhere I have that photo.
Put it on flirk when you find it. You’ll be happy you did.
Time for me to retire. Night all.
g’nite ecahn – sleep well
Smith Rocks is a State Park, but just as interesting as some of the National Parks.
The Painted Hills is part of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, In the NPS system.
http://www.nps.gov/joda/index.htm
Nite, ecahn.
nite ecahn. Nice to see you up late.
i’m gonna head over to hood first and then want to go up to rainer. i wanna see the grand lodges of the national parks… head over to glacier and yellowstone.
*G*
That’s a Honey recipe, from a Spring Fest about two years ago.
We had no walls on our pop up, it was in the mid 30′s at night, we had no heater for jammin.
But we had a crowd at OUR place from our camp, and people pickin till 2am.
Honey, she knows how to work a fest camp crowd . . *G*
honey knows best for sure. of course your cooking helped full that popup.
Let me know when you come to see Hood. I’ll take you around to the sights.
will do — am thinking spring since i’m a total novice when it comes to driving on snow and during real winter conditions.
Late spring. There is snow at the lodge well into June in some years.
Anyone in here still left around backpack CA Sierra Nevada, and if so, where?
*G*
i don’t mind some snow. as long as the roads are clear and it isn’t snowing while i’m driving…. i was thinking april-ish or may… i do tend to procrastinate…
Nope, after main stage music, at 11 or 12, it’s all about likker and warm.
Food is not part of the mix, less ya missed it from sundown till then, due to meadow music or jams.
I’ve had my food moments, but this spring, and most of them, after 11pm, it’s honey and workin two stoves, and two espresso machines with help from camp gal pals. She got it goin! Free labor, and musicians get first call, other than hers, that is . . LOL
hmmmm espresso machines…
What part? Has the snow flown already?
My daughter and son-in-law did the PCT this year.
This lady named Honey. Is she native american? If so, is she Crow?
Lil or bigger, they fit on any stove top.
Here’s one. They come in bigger size, but are GREAT machines!
that’s what ya made me coffee with — mmmmm great coffee makers indeed larue
Well, I guess I’ll turn in also.
See ya all again. :-)
honey as in a nickname for larue’s better half
g’nite starbuck good to see ya again
Ah! Thanks.
Well, in my ute, I covered Tahoe to Whitney almost, a few times.
Mostly, from Yosemite, Tualumne, to just north of Sequoia/Kings Canyon.
On the PCT, and off it, more than not.
Coming out of Tuolumne Meadows, I got three routes south all along the west side of the Sierra Crest, above timber line, and below it.
Was on SW side of Lyle Glacier once, with a student group. I was 19. Two teachers were 45.
I was a rookie guide, the teachers and my two experienced buds my same age got it all wrong on where to ascend to a pass.
Was led up the wrong saddle. On ice. A bridge at the end, mountain on left, steep drop 300 foot to icy puddles of blue water, along a 3 foot wide ascent to a pass, with no cramp on’s, no ice axe’s.
Only cheap nylon rope to haul packs up the 100 yard bridge.
Others had to walk it with hiking boots.
We got to the top, and there’s a slope 3 ways with about a thousand foot drop in two ways, and a ‘way’ down in about a 50 yard wiode field, to scramble and hope the slope don’t give away into the more shear drop.
Only one of the teache’s, she hits a disturbed rock and it nails her leg as she passes it.
We carry her off the slope, after all the 15 kids are down.
And we camp out on skree, on level ground, at about 12K that night.
Took us an extra three days to get back to Little Yosemite Valley, and the hike out.
We carried her pack, and her, at times. And kept 15 kids from junior high and high school from freaking out.
Man I was freaked. And Pissed. All along.
And since . . *G*
Never put your hands into those of those, who think they got it nailed.
The MINUTE you think it’s out of your capability, bail and backtrack, even if you gotta leave them to themselves.
Trust you instincts, and your ability.
And mostly, KNOW what you are capable of.
We were not capable of what we were led into. ;
I failed to revolt, and turn around, for the groups sake.
Never made THAT mistake again . . .
Nope, my nickname for my wife, who’s Nova Scotian born, and Canistuckian and Boston raised.
*G*
wow — what a story larue
Whoops, just us monkeys, I guess . . . I sure cleared THIS room . . .
;-)
laughing
we outlasted them all dood — we are made of hardy stock
Got a few from my time in The Sierra, like that.
Over extended, and lucky!! *G*
Anyhoots, bless ya, be safe and warm, and take care of da goggie and the kitteh.
Gonna splitsky . . . thanks for all you do.
Thanks to FDL, too. Recent adds on’s are totally kewl . . .
And one last sigh for Mz. Hamsher’s loss today.
Two poodles and her missing their pal.
Hard times that.
g’nite larue
today has been a very hard one — dayam hard.
i’m headed out myself. g’nite all and thanks for all the coversations tonight.
hey there suzanne, is it cold up there?
been warm and muggy here today.
