Today marks the start of a new era in FDL newsgathering. We hope FDL News Desk will give readers a smart, fresh take on the ideas, information, and machinations that drive the national agenda, culled from sources that are often more in-the-know—and, frankly, are often more trustworthy—than the usual assortment of bold-faced names and “anonymous high-ranking officials” that habitually shape the stories at our more traditional cohorts. And, we hope to deliver this news with the usual insight and “don’t f*ck with me” aplomb that fans of Firedoglake have come to expect.
News Desk will feature the work of veteran blogger/reporter David Dayen—you might know him as D-Day—who really needs no introduction, but a google of his nom de blog will reveal a wealth of great work at places like Calitics and Digby’s Hullabaloo, as well as his own spot, and, since last week, here at FDL. We are excited to be working with David, and hope our community will join us in welcoming him and welcoming in the News Desk as part of the mix of information, opinion, and activism here at Firedoglake.

this is great news, I like going to raw story but it’s going to be nice using fdl as a news paper along with them
can’t wait to see this going
Welcome to the Lake Dave !
Can’t wait to read your stuff
The Lake just keeps getting better and better!
I’ve been wondering all week who David Dayen is… D-Day! How cool is that? Welcome to the Lake!
welcome!!!
Ohhhhhhh GOODIE! Welcome David, and THANK YOU powers that be at FDL! Our local print newspapers are imploding, and this will be a very welcome addition to FDL for us ;->
yes ! another fabulous addition to the Lake. I am a major D-Day fangirl so I couldn’t be any more pleased.
Welcome D-Day
item, item, who’s got an item ? :D
Groovy! More better every day!!!
Here’s a cute little comment from the MCSteele, “What Up” blog over at GoOP.Com:
Aren’t they cute? I guess eating and feeding the family makes St Ronnie roll in his grave.
Citizen Hamsher:
OK, great news…now what’s the format gunna be and how accessible is it gunna be and will visitors to FDL be able to see at least the headlines when they access the current site?
With the name FDL News, I hoped that this would be an effort to be a primary and validated fact-oriented source of news. What the AP should be but isn’t. Something that would liberate us from reliance on the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal to get the basic facts of a story, to get the actual quotes of an official, to broaden our horizons beyond the Beltway.
Isn’t the aggregator market saturated yet?
Excellent! Welcome D-Day.
Let’s not have any unattributed new sources. Government sources who won’t be named are no better the pravda propaganda. That’s totally creepy to call some reported to issue a story and not give the source’s name.
We need transparency! Good move FDL
This is great news. Welcome David. Will we be able to make suggestions or recommendations for news items?
FDL, “All the News That Fits”? LOL (sorry, I think I stole that from National Lampoon).
Welcome, DDay!
BTW, let me recommend a look at Dylan Ratigan’s Morning Meeting on MSNBC. From what I’ve gathered here at the Lake, few Firepups are early risers. Dylan often has good segments, and is no powder puff when it comes to questioning bigwigs of either the left or right. I’d place him alongside Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann among major newscasters.
But I trust that you will also be helping us comb through the weeds of TPM, HuffPo, Politico and all the other places on the Web.
I will make it a point to visit FDL News regularly.
Thanks,
Bob in AZ
Gregg will kindly thank Jane for adding the Christy Harden Smith blog archive? Christy is the Smart With A Heart.
Are we going to continue to have Pull Up A Chair? Deveria seems like a smart, fun gal, but after only two feel good Saturdays, it got all serious. I thought PUAC was our respite from the sad, serious and ugly. But, what do I know?
The news desk is now one of the choices at the top of the page, but Campaign Silo seems to have disappeared. Is that intentional?
Very exciting news. Welcome David!
Welcome D-Day – glad to have you aboard!
Welcome David! I look forward this at FDL!
Campaign Silo was replaced by FDL Action some time ago; now the header reflects that.
Dayen certainly has the force, in my humble estimation. But can he out beat box Beardyman? Good luck with this new project.
Nothing much to say except cudos..however why do I have to log in every day? Just wunnerin’.
Thanks, I didn’t realize.
Excellent!
I look forward to it.
The other day I started catching up on the news by reading an AP story on the health care debate instead of my usual net sources. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was happening based on the AP story alone, and I’m pretty good at reading between the lines.
Welcome David!!
Great news!
Thanks everyone for the encouragement!
