But let us be honest. Let us be frank. Let us, frankly, be honest. Can it be truly and sincerely honestly frankly stated that any one lone single individual in the annals of Human Oppression has ever suffered and struggled so cruelly, so harshly… as Rush Limbaugh?
Face the facts! Was Medgar Evers ever coldly informed that he was not allowed to own an NFL football team? I think not. I have researched the question extensively and state with every confidence that the answer is NO.
Who else, therefore, more richly deserves to be crowned the Most Oppressed Person Ever in this majestic unfolding American Saga of ours, the King of Whinge, the most colossal MOPE of all time — but Rush Limbaugh?
And whoever could make this case more eloquently than Our Lady of the Lachrymose, Kathryn (Sob) Jean (Sob!) Lopez (SOB!)?
Rush Limbaugh is not an acceptable sports investor because of his politics. How else to interpret the state of a sports world where Keith Olbermann can be on Sunday Night Football and Rush Limbaugh’s hard-earned money can’t be spent as a partial owner of a team in a sport he loves?
RUSH. LIMBAUGH. CAN’T. SPEND. MONEY. ON. THE. SPORT. HE. LOVES. SOB. SOB!
This is so very sad, so very excruciatingly heartrending, that one cannot help but recall what Oscar Wilde had to say about Little Nell under very similar circumstances. As for why Keith Olbermann is allowed to do sports commentary, it’s probably because of Liberal Bias duh nothing else explains it duh.
For, in the end, as Big Hollywood instructs us, “Quite simply, what is happening to Rush is beyond outrageous and frankly dangerous to the property and free speech rights of all Americans.”
Precisely. The most serious free speech issue in America right now is one rich white asshole being told by other rich white assholes that he can’t join their club. On that point we must all agree.
Or else, to get real for a second: the actual issue here is that Rush Limbaugh is a whiny hysterical git, and that’s bad for business. Look at this from the ESPN story linked above:
“This is not about the NFL, it’s not about the St. Louis Rams, it’s not about me,” Limbaugh said. “This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.
“Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we’re going to have.”
And then look at this:
Limbaugh was to be a limited partner in a group headed by St. Louis Blues chairman Dave Checketts. Checketts said in a statement Wednesday that Limbaugh’s participation had become a complication in the group’s efforts and the bid will move forward without him.
Can’t imagine why anyone would ever consider him a “complication.”
Not sure which is funnier, though, the right-wing idiots now threatening to boycott the NFL, or the right-wing idiots saying Limbaugh has grounds for a civil rights lawsuit. The man is toxic, and that’s his own damn screechy needy tantrum-throwing wannabe-sports-involved fault.
He’d be bad for the product, and that’s the bottom line. This is Real America, you know? And if Rush Limbaugh can’t even buy his way into it, well, that’s about right.
(Note: I find the video amusing. YMMMV. Good song though)

Oh, fuck the fat creep.
Hey wait, I didn’t even use a single bad word in that post…? Am I sick?
(Checks)
Actually, yes.
Rush Limbaugh’s name IS an honorary bad word.
Gee, I just don’t understand this at all. I mean just because pretty much every black athlete in the NFL adamantly declares he will not work for a fat obnoxious racist is no reason to deny Rush the opportunity to own a team. I mean what difference would not having any black player have on his team?
No swearing…Thers, you feelin ok?
I also love how the self proclaimed champions of personal responsibility suddenly get their knickers in a knot when they have to pay consequences for their words and actions. They are right that he is being penalized for his politics. Being a white supremacist has consequences.
Actually been fighting off a creeping crud of some sort.
Speaking of a creeping crud, Limbaugh gets a little taste of what it’s like to be excluded. Poor fellow.
Fuck Rush. Fucking asshole.
Ultimately this will be to Rush’s benefit. Now he can afford a Brazilian wax…
It’s going to take a few adolescent Dominican boys for Rush to get over this one.
putting on mask.
Rush would be like poison to the NFL. He just wants to be able to go in the locker room and pat their behinds.
BTW, the first M in YMMMV is for “Motherfucking.”
Unfair.
They’re too tall.
Well, who doesn’t? “g”
Today I did a diary Where are the defamation lawsuits for Hannity and Limbaugh? Thers even gave a guest “Bite me” in the comments section. Thanks!
Say that someone like Kevin Jennings files a defamation suit on Rush. He will really start crying, “They are trying to destroy me and block my right to lie and defame people! That is my god given right! It’s in the constitution!”
I figured that Rush would beat me to the punch, he LOVES to be the victim, especially when he is the bully. That is why we have to back an actual victim where RUSH is the bully. He will try and flip it but he can’t deny that he was the offender first.
This is what I did with KSFO hosts and they STILL tried to claim victim hood and censorship after it was MY speech that was silenced.
As Dave Zirin said, most NFL owners are “already to the right of Genghis Khan”. It’s comforting, just a little, to know they don’t want to touch Rush with a 10 foot pole.
Get well, Thers.
Limbaugh sucks ,glad to know he won’t be owning part of a team
Rush would be a big shit stain on the sport!
Ps as a Pats fan I especially enjoyed the video!
They don’t really have a problem with his politics, they don’t like the bad PR.
See how hard Rush has it? Even the right wing in this country is trying to destroy the right wing in this country. Rush is the grating, flabjellous voice of one crying out in the wilderness.
They won’t touch him because none of their players will work for them if they do. You try to field an all white team.
Evein’ Thers and Firedogs,
normally I’m lurking about now as a means to decompress from work, but just saw the story as I was coming in and wanted to splash around in it with you all.
the big swingin’ capitalists brushing him aside dismissively – not even mentioning his name, like some replaceable retainer – the one real way to fuck with him ( well other than that whole life sentence thing for whatever he does in the Dominican Republic)
How Y’all Doin’ ?
Former Pats coach Raymond Berry is tied with Dan Reeves for second place on my list of most detested head coaches.
And a brilliant diary it was too!
Yeah I was wondering about that extra M in YMMMV.
Rush sucks… Good for the NFL.
Btw, Ben Roethlisberger has the highest pass completion percentage this year. Even the Manning Bros. and Brady are behind Big Ben. Sorry about the OT… I had to get that out there. That video makes me sick… See that’s why we need heath care reform. [Snark intended]
Thanks! A good “Bite me!” from you always punches up a diary.
This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.
Yea. A conservative just can’t buy a sports franchise nowadays, right? Look at ….. anyplace. Well, we can’t start right here in my backyard with our one and only pro-sports team. The Orlando Magic. Owned by Amway founder (if Maddoff’s in jail, why isn’t this guy? I’m sorry, I got Ponzi scheme and Pyramid scheme mixed up. My bad) Rich deVos. Big time Repub contributor and whose son is married to the sister of Eric Prince.
I mean Rush is so full of shit. Right arm, Thers! It’s not the black players keeping out Limbaugh. Because in the end the owners don’t give a shit. It’s a bunch of rich white guys who don’t want rush anywhere near
their product ’cause he’s.. as you say …toxic. Look, he’s had an association with the NFL once and that went great didn’t it? Saying that an 4 time all-pro quarterback got credit because he was black.
Who’s first place?
I will try to get well…
The problem with Limbaugh vis the NFL is, to be really blunt, that he’s so desperately on the make for serious man-capitalism-sports credibility. He doesn’t get what the real rules are.
He’s posturing, and has gotten rich off of lots of weird geeks who don’t know he’s just posturing. And hey, it’s a market!
But every time he’s tried to pretend he has anything else to anyone else, he’s gotten beaten like an unlikeable puppy.
he’s gotten beaten like an unlikeable puppy.
That is because he is an unlikeable puppy. Well, more of a toad than a puppy, but still.
The video? Bah. Was waiting to see a shot of Brady getting his ass stomped by Michael Strahan in the SuperBowl.
I think that we need to keep hammering this “Rush is Toxic to Rich White Men” story. These rich white men are who Rush’s audience aspire to be. But if they find that even if you get a lot of money they won’t let you in the club if you are a racist jerk they might figure that Rush isn’t cool.
*sniff* … when will this oppression of rich, white, racists end ?!!
Thers !
Oh Jeez. Didn’t realize the time. Gotta go. Go Jankees! Go Eli! Go Football Giants! Go Rangers!! Go Kni…… Go Rangers!!!
Toby bess not whine about pickin cotton in massah Limbaugh’s patch.
Rush couldn’t even own a Roller Derby team
Hey mang!
Yeah, the way he was unceremoniously dumped is the funny part. Dave Checketts didn’t toss Limbaugh overboard because he’s a Feminazi, exactly.
Spocko, you kicked ass on that post and the follow up comments … I hope everyone takes the time to go and read it. Linky to Spocko’s post
when will this oppression of rich, white, openly racists end ?!!
Fixed that for you. Many if not most of the owners are racists, they just have enough sense to be a bit more discrete about it.
Is Rush the long lost nephew of Jimmy the Greek?
Thanks. It would be nice for some lawyers to stop in and explain all the reasons this is not possible so that we can start helping define what is possible and then execute on it. I spoke to Cindy Sheehan about this at one time and I can tell you just how painful it is for real people to be slandered by these radio and tv hosts.
Perfect … thanks !
Hee hee. I was looking for a football related vid, thought of this song — I like FoW — and saw this… amused me.
Great diary Spocko! I read it last night (early this morning??).
Inspiring.
Mike Ditka, who never trusted his QBs to call a play and only had one for 3rd down attempts… run it up the middle. Like the opposing team wouldn’t be expecting it just because you did it the last thousand times.
Ewwwwww. That photo at the Big Hollywood made me want to lose my dinner. Why, oh why did I take the click here bait?
Hi honeys. I’m home.
How about a cheesecake photo instead?
Dang, even I don’t click my links. I had to learn that lesson the hard way.
Brindle wants to know why I’m licking my computer screen.
Thanks.
Time for me to toddle off. More young minds to corrupt in the morning. Take care all.
Yes, because we all have the right — the RIGHT HE SAYS! — to pay millions for an organization dedicated not to curing cancer, or eliminating poverty, of even (sadly, for Rush) to making a machine that spits out little Carribean boys who don’t spit out* …
Oh no. None of that.
We all have the god-given right to paying millions to be part owner of an organization that plays a fucking game. And in the Rams’ case, poorly. Like, very poorly.
Just looking at that one makes me sweat.
Now you tells me.
(I’m watching a profile of Joan Baez’s music and activism.
The Night They Drove They Drove Old Dixie Down.
Gosh, she’s still beautiful.
I don’t think the Greek would want him. Having that one for a nephew might drive the paying customers away – not good for business.
G’nite.
HA!!!
I watched that earlier. Yep, she has aged as gracefully as a person could possibly hope. Very cool gal to boot.
Usually the stuff I link to is even worse than I describe it, or can be imagined. Or than I can imagine describing it.
That comment was directed at The Greeks profoundly insensitive and racist comments that go him booted as a sports announcer. Y’know, like Rush.
Going to have to drift off into slumber. Niters.
Oh, by the way Thers, good game Florida V OU. Yeah, you kicked our ass. Congrats. Now bite me. /snark
Not even with somebody else’s!
Thers, thank you for this marvellous bit of snark.
Funny Wheelie Diva
Me too. G’nite. *poof*
Great read, great piece Thers!
Love It!
He can’t buy his way into the club, he’s so fuckin toxic!! *G*
God bless capitalism, unfettered! *G*
I did my senior project on her, a readers theatre adaptation of her autobigraphy, Daybreak. Used Diamonds and Rust as the opening, over faded black and whilte slides. She was my first real hero. I learned how to sing listening to her.
Try And Catch The Wind. I’m tripping.
Night, sleepers. Sweet dreams of Rush Limbaugh.
Love Joan Baez.
Emmy Lou has aged really gracefully too.
Still a beauty.
Here’s a great one of Emmylou showing different times in her life.
Oddly and interestingly, the St. Louis Rams are the number one Democratic Party donors in the entire Pig-Republican-controlled NFL.
Also too, Limpballs the Billionaire Humanoid Anal Csyt is also from Cape Girardeu Missouri. Or is it Mississippi?
I’m thinking the owners of the NFL are mostly republicans because they live vicariously. They’re nacho.
Are you the one who was talking about her and Gram Parsons the other day?
Limpballs racist football remark concerning Donovan McNab, was second only to Howard Cosell’s, “Look at that monkey run!” That was the shot heard round the world that ended Howard’s career.
Limpballs put his clubby foot in his mouth before his fat ass made a dent in the chair cushion.
Hey, anyone got a link to Rush’s radio show when he was whining about the free speech rights of the Dixie Chicks when they weren’t allowed to perform in some places and/or have their songs broadcast over some stations because of words they said???
I’m sure he must’ve been whining then too, right?? Right??? I mean if one has a right to own a part of an entertainment business no matter what kind of overt bullshit previously came out of his mouth then surely the entertainers themselves must have the right to entertain no matter the prior speech.
I mean if there’s one thing Rush is, it’s consistant. Right?
IMHO, NFL owners are Republicans b/c they love to “socialize expenses” and privatize profits.
See how they get cities to pay for their stadiums while they reap the profits. Also no (or super-low) property taxes.
Speaking of Republican grifters, did you hear that JEB was slated for NFL commish?
No, but here’s one.
For obvious reasons, Rush erases his shows so he can flip flop. No archives unless a third party keeps them.
No, I don’t know much about football. It really bugs that taxpayers pay for stadiums, though. Guess it brings in enough tax dollars to recover expenses??? Jeb?
Howard had a very good reason why that might slip out, racism oriented or not – he was full-on shitfaced all the time in those days.
Limbaugh is a calculating, profiteering juvenile, and we have no idea if he is still half in the bag when he goes to air.
This stuff may keep him from a spot on ESPN, or crucify his chances of being in the ownership clique, but his contracts don’t seem to suffer for it. Rather, it enhances his earnings. That’s the country we live in.
Limbaugh is an overrated windbag who isn’t worth the time it takes me to write this comment.
Emmy via Wiki.
True.
Sorry, but I feel the need to put that comment on the thread of every post about that windbag. The only good thing about giving him attention is that, the more he gets, the worse the confused Republican Party looks. Just wish he didn’t get to profit from it along the way…
Emmy wrote Boulder to Birmingham for Parsons. News to me!
Sorry! Without reading anything, I’m breaking in to point to Jimmy Fallon and the Monty Python Players.
Well, I was kinda thinking backwards from that. If he invested a large portion of his fortune in an NFL team, it beats wherever else he might put it. We know it wouldn’t go to the Smithsonian, it would probably go to some junk think tank.
They were on Olbermann tonight!
Yes they were and even funnier right now!
Do you mean junk “think” tank? ;->
If I was paid hundreds of millions of dollars a year, I’d give a huge chunk of it to the Met in NYC.
And if you mean the Metropolitan Museum of Art that would be wonderful!
I mean like this abomination.
upstairs
Limbaugh “loves the game”? No…he loves the money he can make from public entities…the taxpayers…to pay for improvements to the Edward Jones Dome. The City already paid $280 million for the EJ Dome’s construction to attract the Rams after the Cardinals fled to a higher bidder in the Sun Belt. Now the Ram’s are threatening to go back to Los Angeles if they don’t get a complete refurbishing of EJDome with massive areas reserved for corporate boxes and executive seats…taking away the seats of average St. Louisians. Paid for by the taxpayers!
Limbaugh doesn’t care jack about the NFL whom he has said “… all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons”. That’s love? That’s not a statement about an occasional criminal or loser doing stuff off the field…he’s talking about the TEAMS…”all too often”. By the way he claims to have reviewed this tape and said…it was in the context of me “loving the game”…yet he hasn’t reviewed the “other tapes that for the other comments yet”. IOW it sounds like they do exist…he just needs to place them into a context. He isn’t denying that they DO exist.
Rush (Today on EIB): “Well, I’m in a position here where I can’t address — I’d love to — but I can’t address the thrust of your comments here. Well, maybe I can because I have said something that they are taking out of context, the Bloods and Crips comment, maybe I can explain that. …And the way to deal with it is not so much point it out as to recognize it as an obstacle and how to deal with it. And those are the kinds of things I can’t discuss, but let me take the occasion of your call to explain the Bloods and Crips comment, because these guys who are now admitting, “Okay, maybe we can’t source those quotes about Limbaugh and James Earl Ray and slavery, but he said Bloods and Crips! He said Bloods and Crips!”
“… I believe the comment’s from 2007, and I believe the comments were made to a phone call, I had a phone call — I think — I’d have to check the transcript of that date, which I’ve not done, but my memory is, it was a playoff game in San Diego between the Chargers and the Patriots… some Chargers DB had gotten in the face of some Patriots player, was doing a “you can’t diss me” act and so forth, and it lost the game for the Chargers. And I praised the official for throwing the flag. See, I love the game. I love the National Football League.”
[Notice that Rush claims people are retreating from the quoted remarks…he suggests “somethings in the works” but never says “I’m gonna sue their A**”. Then he takes his BEST contextualized quote, says he “recalls” when it happened but that he hasn’t even reviewed the transcript. So if he hasn’t actually examined THIS…and is working off memory…how is it that he can categorically deny he made the other statements? Has he checked all the much older transcripts?
Then he claims that his attacking the teams, and the need for discipline, means he “loves the game”? It sounds more like he is complaining about the game AS IT EXISTS…but has some fantasy world about what it should be. He loves the fantasy…hates the reality. And the cause of the decline becomes racialized…”Crips and Bloods”
….”And they cannot allow the tendency, the integrity of the game to be blown up by whatever ‘cultural trends’ are going on. So the Bloods and Crips comment I THINK I SAID “sometimes” the game looks like Bloods and Crips without the weapons.”
He actually said “all too often” – watch this amount fade into smaller and smaller increments.
Which only shows that he has Frank Luntz and Roy Black on speed-dial.
Ah, it’s little things like this that make it worth it to be a progressive sometimes.
Thers,
Beautifully said. There are many faults which can be attributed to the bilious Mr. Limberger. When Jerry Garcia died, he referred to him as “just another dead junkie.” Uh huh. But after Rush was busted for shopping for oxycodone in late night parking lots, he refused to discuss it. The man has no scruples and no integrity. And the big media which keep him on the air are equally culpable.
Besides, nobody is keeping this lout from spending his hate-mongering moolla on “the sport he loves.” Hell, he can bet all he wants, in Las Vegas. I’d like nothing better than for him to spend the rest of his life in casinos, snorting his feeble brains out with oxycodone and gambling his wealth away. He could end up as “poor white trash” instead of as “spoiled, egocentric, rich white trash.”
Expect the Spanish Inquisition.
Who amoungst you is one of the pajama clad basement dwelling gay rights extremists?
Next, advocates of the Public Plan will be burned as witches, as the threadbare coalition falls apart.
Next, they come for you. You have dispensed with truth,
screamed lies as a mob, and demonstrated your character, for all to see.
It will not be necessary for the opposition to do anything but stand by and watch, as the beast you have created ultimately feeds on you.
Money is for spending, so the fat man goes with PLAN B!
…”Whether it will be a country where a private corporate entity has the right to sell or not sell to whomever it freely chooses, or whether I can use my political and financial muscle to get whatever I want as if I were royalty! I ask you… wait, let me pop some more barbituates…”
Censorship, thought control and the future of the United States, my ass. This is the real world, the one in which words and actions have consequences. What is happening to Rush is no different from someone being refused a job because the potential employer didn’t like what the guy had written on his Web site. It might be a cheesy reason, but it’s perfectly legal and consistent with a free market.
Fact is, the only people whose opinions count are the owners, and the owners are not about to alienate a work force that is 1) about 70% African American and 2) even more brutally meritocratic than their own. And they sure as hell aren’t going to do anything to alienate a significant portion of the customer base of the most successful sports operation in the world. Nah. Gah. Happen.
You know, I don’t mind so much that Rush is a racist jackass. I mind that he won’t OWN WHAT HE SAYS instead of whining to the world that HE is the real victim in all of this.
