  • We should all be very grateful to President Snowe.
  • Very strange.
  • Why is the word ‘tries’ in this headline?
  • Good.
  • Sign of the times.
  • GOP! GOP! GOP!
  • Time for a sternly worded letter.

BT,

The article on the launch of the new GOP website was quite funny. Makes one wonder why Liebberblub would ever consider voting with repugs. He needs more than a sternly worded letter.

Time for a sternly worded letter

.
The sternly worded letters need to be sent to every democratic senator telling them to strip Lieberman of his committee seats. It was a major mistake to play kissy face with this clown.

Mornin’, BT, pups

Bryan and Tracy Lawlor, who is also 34, have hidden their straitened circumstances from their four young children, mainly at his insistence. But as their savings dwindle, Christmas, a key indicator in the Lawlor family, will mean fewer presents this year. The Lawlors have made a practice of piling on toys and new clothes for their children at Christmas, buying relatively less the rest of the year. That will make a cutback noticeable this holiday season, and the parents are concerned that their children will begin to realize why.

They’re not worried about how to bring up their children, they don’t want them to find out they’re not making as much money as they used to. What is wrong with this picture? Ever think of telling the kids the truth of the situation? I’ve known some very successful parents who were dirt poor in my day.

eCAHN @ 3: Nope, it just gets uglier by the day.

I think there’s a balance between telling your children that you can’t afford as much this year, and telling them so much about the circumstances that they are worried and frightened. Depends, of course, on the ages of the children. And in many homes, whether they still believe in Santa.

Of course, “Santa” may be hit by the economy, too, and have to give less to all children so that all children receive something!!

I agree. We had a family conference to explain to our kids about my husband’s furloughs and how that was going to affect our budget short and long term. We had a great exchange about creative ways to save money even at Christmas. The kids started creating artwork to scan and print off to create stationary sets for gifts to family and my daughter started her own business this summer (a lemonade shake & jewelry stand.)She also started designing clothes made from hand-me-downs and thrift store buys. Very chic stuff she designed. Our oldest researched healthy, low budget recipes that met his food allergy concerns in order to save on groceries.

Our youngest (4 at the time), worried about other families being hit even harder, started The Little Red Food Wagon outreach of a weekly canned food drive in our neighborhood and all donations go to the local food pantry.

What I love is how the “stakeholders” interests are taken into consideration so much – stakeholders? These are corporations who insist on their profit stream. Don’t mess with our profits. The stakeholders are really the public about whose health care this is all about. What about them there stakeholders?

My point and I think Jane’s, though not emphasized, was that the stakeholders who the WH takked to were the for profit corporations in the game.

The WH didn’t have discussions with patient’s and citizens groups who are the TRUE stake holders in this matter, not the shareholders.

As I understand the prior use of the word “stakeholder,” it was invented to include all people who have an interest in the outcome of whatever the issue is. In your example, there is no issue to be resolved so applying the term “stakeholder” has no meaning. Now if there were an antitrust issue in pet food retailing, then to include only the retailers in the discussion, and refusing to include customers, and calling the parties to the discussion “stakeholders” would be severely misleading.

Went on HuffPo this morning to comment on these same articles — very disturbing.

Apparently HuffPo’s changed its censors or policies or something, b/c every time I tried to post a comment that was a negative one about the injection of Ayn Rand utopianism into weepublican policies (and our economy by extension) it got scrubbed. Also, any comments about the prostitution of the MSM into the reichwingers agenda never made it past them. WTF is going on there?

Thank goodness for FDL!

I read a disgusting Twitter posting there, too, by someone calling him/herself oustobama — it was in reference to the swastika on the MA golf course, and he/she said it was “a real shame that it would stay there until the Spring when the grass could grow back — a real shame.”

And, yet, that wasn’t removed.

“Obama’s War” on PBS last night was just so depressing. One scene in particular showed Marines asking Afghan villagers why they don’t help them defeat the Taliban. One of the Afghans replied to the effect, “We are very poor people. We only have sticks to defend ourselves. You have guns and helicopters and tanks. Why can’t you defeat them?”

I agree, but that story was disturbing for more reasons. I remember reading that the New Deal intentionally tried to emphasize maintaining wages, even at the cost of jobs. I can’t recall all of the reasons, which made sense to me when I read it, but the major one had to do with maintaining improved general standard of living when the economy eventually came back. If wages/salaries declined generally, even a recovered economy meant the middle class standard of living was set back by years and might never reach the previous standard.

Lieberman’s the Senator from Israel, not CT — he’s threatening to vote with the goppies unless the WH caves to the Israelis on the Palestinian issues — that’s what this is all about.

That’s why he’s insisting the US spend more blood and treasure in Afghanistan, too — it’s in Israel’s interest. Get it? What’s best for Israel is his first (and only, apparently) concern — what a piece of work, huh?

From the story re: President Snow:

Many clashes lie ahead as congressional leaders attempt to merge the more moderate Finance bill with more-liberal versions passed months ago by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and three committees in the House. Those bills cost significantly more and are centered on a public option.

Oh, yes, “significantly more.” Right. Way too much, since it would actually be used to keep people from dying, not to engorge corporate vultures.

Once I tried to ask an honest question of a candidate regarding education policy who was on for a salon at HuffPo. My question was controversial in content but asked very politely.

I was banned and received a “nasty gram” from the mod telling me my question was critical of the guest and rude. I was quite confused by their response. After I shared the question with friends and learned more about the background of the candidate in terms of education, it was clear to my friends the response was an extreme act of censorship by HuffPo in order to control the message on the candidate.

I can no longer sign in at HuffPo since that experience which is fine because the quality of the content no longer matches the content received here at FDL.

I even followed up with HuffPo and asked them to please explain what was “harmful’ about my question. Only crickets from HuffPo.

Sarah Palin apparently inspired an important and popular Democrat to walk out on his job, too.

Cong. Robert Wexler of Florida will leave his seat in midstream to take the reigns as an exec with The Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation, a group with little to do with ‘Peace’ and more to do with the ‘Economic’ side, from a one-sided perspective. One of the groups founders and activists also founded J street, not exactly a bastion of the law and order Wexler so fervently fought for. Maybe he and/or they think he can add some respectability?? Fat chance of that.

A big loss and disappointment.
