They have had dozens of cases overturned recently because of new DNA tests. It is highly probable that many of the previous executions in Texas were also done on wholly innocent people. I lived in Texas when Bush was governor and at that time, the appeal system was definitely stacked against anyone who was on death row. Once you've been convicted, the odds are that you WILL be killed no matter what evidence emerges or what kind of errors occurred in the original trial. At that point it ceases to be a system of justice and becomes one merely concerned with executing people. I'd be willing to bet that anywhere from 5-10% percent of all executions in Texas have happened to people innocent of the crime for which they were sentenced to death. That should be W's enduring legacy. Perry should go to jail for obstruction. They’ve been executing innocent people in Texas for years.
