Nice of the NFL to refuse to play Limbaugh rules. Rough, maybe, but dirty, nope.

Morning all. So McShame is worried about a historic error in Afghanistan. Where has this clown been for the last eight years? You know when the whole thing was screwed up.

They had one of those “we were winning in VN” types on book-tv over the weekend. I read the negative reviews of his book and amazon & didn’t bother listening. The bulk of the reviews were positive and the negative ones were low-rated, telling you where those who are still interested in the subject fall out.

I forgot to add that the reason why they played the author presentation was because it is being read in the WH and among the military. Also a book about how misplaced U.S. was in VN, whose author’s interview was also rebroadcast over the weekend. Here’s the first, and here’s the second.

A year after my divorce, eight years ago, I found myself in that weird dating cycle again. I dated a few rich men. Wasn’t much impressed. One, I remember was some Hollywood producer type. Talked about his ex the whole time. Had a very impressive home up in the Hollywood hills, though. Oh, well.

House of War by James Carroll (at least I think that’s the book) makes a big deal of the importance of being able to tell the truth outloud in the fall of communism. Propagandizing the acceptable topics that can be talked about, and how they can be talked about, is an important part of holding onto power.

Question for you. You were mentioning your fires in the fireplaces and last night was cool here so I lit one up. What do you use to start yours? Kindling or something else? Once while we were camping, it was up near Suzanne’s little cabin actually, in a little store they had little cupcakes made out of parafin and wood chips, with a wick. I made and used those last year, but I’m wondering what you use.

3-4 crumpled sheets of newspaper, 2 fatwood sticks (Duraflame makes the ones I have), plenty of kindling and dry wood. Start with smaller pieces and then after it’s going out on the bigger ones.

It’s way past time imho. I wish it would have started back in January with some big ‘n bold kicks to their backsides. We should have knocked them off balance in the beginning because they totally suck at defense. Without the advantage of the upper hand they are rendered helpless and start to turn on each other like we’re seeing now but not nearly enough.

Medicare for All

One of the political advantages to single payer, quite aside from it being thr best policy, and quite aside from it having the political benefit of actually giving the majority of the electorate that is currently insured the tangible benefit of lowered premiums, is that it is the only plan that could be implemented immediately. Medicare provides an apparatus that is already up and running to collect premiums and pay claims. Not many working people would have to be enrolled for premium coillection, since almost all of us are already signed up for the payroll deduction charged by the already-existing Medicare. Only the amount deducted would have to be adjusted to add in the premium to add coverage for the before age 65 years to the coverage already in place for the after-65 years. Similarly, almost all providers of medical services are already dealing with Medicare, and so would not need to add any staff to deal with collecting from Medicare. In fact, they would be able to stop dealing with any other plan, saving them considerable admin costs.

I don’t see why Medicare for All wouldn’t be able to start collecting premiums and paying claims within a month of the final passage of the implementing legislation. The premium rates would have to be calculated, but the task of coming up with an interim rate could be assigned by presidential order to the existing Medicare bureaucracy, and could be accomplished before final passage of the law. Some providers would have to register with Medicare, but that too could start before final passage. Ditto for the few individuals not already having Medicare payments deducted from their paychecks.
