g’evening suze!
hey ndfg – how ya doing tonight?
Suz! What a find!
hey newton – thanks :) how’s the bay area tonight?
so-so…
Great video. Mel Blanc could probably make millions today as a voice over artist.
suze & pups, how’m i doing? cursing like a banshee. we’re bracing for our first winter storm of the season, 2-4 inches. gah. *spits* hope it fizzles faster than the twins.
hey cujo – thanks. how’s seattle tonight?
fingers and toes crossed you are talking rain and not the white stuff
Its 55 degrees in Seattle now it feels cold.
warmer than the 44 here — hey things
everyone got the blahs tonight or is it just me?
Hey, all those guys have wieners!
alas suze, its the white stuff. driving’s gonna be nasty tomorrow mostly because no one remembers how to drive in the crap from year to year. blergh.
teddy, people have asked me to go to Hooters restaurant. I say that i’m holding out for the opening of the chain called “Wienies and Buns.”
brrrrrr kinda like california drivers in the first rain of the fall — crashes all over the place
RNC: “We congratulate America’s first Kenya-born president to win the Nobel Peace Prize.”
hey teddy – how ya doing tonight?
Nice shag carpet there – How did Ed ever find his whiskey glass in those days?
;>)
hey wigwam –…. first kenya-born muslim president….
hey db — didja notice johnny lighting a smoke while jack and mel were talking
I’d forgotten all about those skits. More!~
Love it, thanks so much.
Have to take son to buy new jacket tomorrow, getting cooler here.
hey margot — its amazing what’s on those utubes nowadays
Those were the golden times – How can a man come into millions of strangers homes nightly without a Lucky Strike, I ask you. It’d be like asking Ronald Reagan to give up farmer’s sausage.
;>)
Good evening Suz and Pups. I was away for a few weeks so now I’m catching
up. At first I thought I’d miss the computer. Instead it was a relief to
not have to deal with the daily BS from Washington.
Oh I still got the news, with a Canadian slant. (They must think we’re
Nutz!) A lot of the talk was about the healthcare issues and much more on
Afghanistan – which was covered in great depth. They did lots of personal
stories on families with soldiers stationed abroad, fighting in OUR wars.
The discussions were polite. Yet it was obvious their citizens get more
honest news than we do. Not much TV available to us. We did get The
Daily Show and Colbert. So it’s good that eastern Canada knows we did not
all drink the Kool Aid.
I’m watching the baseball game Rockies Vs. Phillies. The Weather Channel
shows Denver at 28 F. Game tied 5-5 in the 8th inning. Bet they’re Cold, players and fans.
For all you Pups dealing with cold weather, I’d love to send you some of
our unseasonably hot Central/SW FL weather.
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/notion/483259/new_white_house_line_against_fox_it_s_war
So is this a one time shot at Fox or a long term war? I for one want in!
hey pat – nice to see your fonts again.
We watched Revolutionary Road here last night. No one paid me to write this, but I think you should see if it you haven’t. That Kate Winslet can act.
i’ve been back and forth to the kitchen — got a pot of pasta e fagioli going
TCU’s got it right – it feels really cold out right now. I was out a couple of hours ago, and I was sure glad I had a jacket.
I wish it were a trial-balloon, but RahmCo’s best interest is ‘comity…’ Damn I hate that word. But they don’t have the nad for it.
She will be on HotJobs by Friday.
Suz, yer there on the front of all this!!
I’s SNOW, for NDFG, and rain, lots of water, for us down here.
I hope.
And snow up at 7K in Sierra’s.
Oregon will get soaked, and the mountains will get snow.
GOT FIREWOOD?!?!?!? *G*
Stay warm and dry, Suz, El Nina is here! Or is it El Nino . . . I dunna.
But RAIN is gonna happen, often, this season.
Didn’t ya listen to the spiders!?!?!?!?!?!? ROTFLMAO!!! *G*
Evening suz, all.
Had the heat on for a bit, but I’m a wimp.
I saw Michael Moore’s movie Capitalism: A Love Story. Highly recommend it. It was a full-house applause at the end.
Moore’s coverage of Post-WW2 Europe should be in our history books.
hey larue — i like the rain :) especially now that i’m not pretending to be a traffic signal in it.
hey sunny — its october — perfectly acceptable to turn on the heat in october.
No way in Hell! They just make shit up.
and larue — that garden lady was right about the spiders. it was like a switch turned from summer to fall.
Certainly, Fox continues to aggressively bolster its on-air talent, most recently with the hiring of John Stossel, the libertarian investigative journalist from ABC News, for its spin-off channel, Fox Business. The business channel is also keen on another administration critic, Lou Dobbs, who met for dinner with Mr. Ailes last month, according to two people with direct knowledge of the meeting.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/12/business/media/12fox.html
John Stossel is a jerk is CNN looking to dump Lou because Lou moving voluntarily to a business network with no viewers during a recession makes no sense.
If yer still up, loved yer posts today.
Just catching up to much of them.
And thanks for the info of the DC March.
I’d guess 150K.
And sorry, but FUCK Barney Frank for the pressure on the grass comment, and I LOVE Barney Frank!
Pressure on THEM! All of them. Bastids.
Course, I can’t take Lady Gaga srsly, nor her art.
But, to have pop music support for any issue is important.
I guess . . . *rollseyes*
And I gotta thank her for that.
Best to you, yours, and the efforts for all rights.
Today was kewl, and thanks for bringing some of it to us at home.
We hope and march on!
Exactly.
I saw it for the second time yesterday, and it was even better than the first.
Europe and the Japan, Taiwan, and Korea are on the New Deal. We were doing well under the New Deal, but “in 1980 they gave a class war and only the rich showed up” (quoting Ian Welsh).
Fell down on his knees from the lord’s word and busted his nose on the shot glass when he hit the floor?
Oh, Ed Mac. My bad.
Making something up is research for them after all they believe!
I reckon that means we now have two places to go for useless business advice at any hour of the day or night. I’d say look at the bright side – maybe they’ll replace Dobbs with someone sentient, but I have my doubts that will happen.
Ah, but wait for the bluegrass versions, Larue. With La femme Gaga outblowing Jim Kweskin on the jug you’ll spend a pretty penny for those, I wager.
;>)
Coming from CNN, I sure hope yer kidding?
There’s no separation between the two.
?????????
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/10/07/mediaite-imus-improves-fox-business-network-mornings-by-1000/29889
My bold Rupert gets Imus and now is looking at Lou Dobbs he seems willing to spend in a recession even though the Christmas advertising season should be horrible this year?
True I hope Obama goes after them next
i figure those late late night infomercials have more truth in reporting than faux news
A signal that bright would melt the rains . . *G*
I don’t know, that’s a pretty small quantity to be measuring that late at night. I prefer the visuals in the exercise equipment infomercials, though.
those yellow banana suits only slightly help keep the rain from running down the inside of the back– the only thing bright was the smile on my face when the lights started working again (or the corp yard showed up with portable stop signs)
We went from summer to fall, too. Here.
And glad for it.
I got ‘mater plants, though, and basil, on our front porch, still growin and fruitin.
This storm is likely gonna shut down all our outside pots.
Stuff in the back in the ground has already been dug out and up.
Only a few pots left on the shelves.
Maybe one pint or 2 pints of basil left to make pesto.
Sigh, no matter HOW much I grow, I never have enuff for the whole winter for pesto.
Sucks. lol
Nobody is watching Fox Business Channel is it even being offered in Seattle?
To get less than .1 ratings so low Nielsen does not release your ratings because you are below their minimum reporting standards that takes work.
I’m not sure Imus and Lou can save the network but what I do know is Lou will be off the air and unless his fans all decide to order Fox business channel Lou moving there would silence his message of hate.
When the game is propaganda, the table stakes are high. Murdoch knows this, so he hires and books accordingly because for every wised-up mark who has forgone TV and print media there are many more who are prisoners of habit, taking comfort that News Corp. products reinforce their cherished preconceptions of a world that would never willingly elect a black man just because George W. Bush failed conservatism.
;>)
Don Imus is hard to look at. Been a while, but never looked fresh out of the shower to me.
Ah my lord, blowing is an art form in itself, is it not?
God help us all if she finds the grass, new grass, or invents a new genre, like, asexual grass.
*G*
I want to see it. Probably have to rent it to see it where I am, though.
Truth to power, hoss, truth to power.
Bless ya . . . *G*
And I mean that in the MOST progressive non biblical way . . *G*
Response to ThingsComeUndone @ 26
I think the Fixed “news” a-holes actually angered some of the folks over at CNN when they placed a bs full-page ad in the Washington Post, New York Post, and Wall Street Journal claiming that Fixed noise was the only outlet to cover the teabaggers.
CNN’s response was to run several times the following Sunday morning during State of the Union this ad:
CNN ad: “Fox News: distorting, not reporting”.
You can also see here CNN ad: “Fox News: distorting, not reporting”, at mediamatters.org.
hey k-town. how’s ktown tonight?
Quiet. I’m up waaaayyyy too late >-;
btw ktown — there is a reply thingie you can use to reply instead of typing out the name and #. if it doesn’t fill in the info, make sure the page is finished loading before ya press it.
Hey Suz. And how are things by you?
(Something’s wrong with my connection again; can’t get the reply function to work…)
i’m doing well — have a fire going to chase off the cold. have ya tried clearing your cache?
http://www.campusprogress.org/rws/4622/lou-dobbs
Lou Dobbs” averaged 658,000 total viewers, down 24%.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/30/fox-news-dominates-3q-200_n_304260.html
Lou wants to trade 658,000 total viewers to go on a network that Nielsen does not release ratings for because the entire network is below their minimum reporting standards?
That’s the modern way – short on talent, unless it’s for self-promotion and quick to capitalize on new non-music revenue streams. 18 month window of opportunity – in, out, and cash the check before a fickle public moves on. Not really new, I suppose but rather obvious and artlessly handled now.
If Gaga’s people thought she could turn a faster buck coming out in Daisy Mae drag and plucking a washtub bass CMT would have the video in rotation within a week.
;>)
i’m hoping lou jumps ship because he was given no other choice. cnn shudda let him go a long time ago
Are you on K-town time. That is way slow. :)
Did I tell ya I lived in Knoxville for a year. Loooooong time ago. My first husband was from there. Did you know any Shouse’s?
Sometimes the reply thingie works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes if I try to log in from a window at the AOL program, it doesn’t work. So I have to open an Explorer window. And then other stuff doesn’t seem to work for me. Am I starting to sound like Eeyore?
Btw, I think the second link the CNN ad works better.
Nite suz, pups. Morpheus beckons.
hey mary mcc — whats shaking?
g’nite sunny
need to dump the aol browser and start using firefox. i did and have never looked back. i eventually dumped aol as my isp.
It works! CNN did let Dobbs go for a while, back when his show was called Moneyline. That was 1999. He returned about a year later.
“If Gaga’s people thought she could turn a faster buck coming out in Daisy Mae drag and plucking a washtub bass CMT would have the video in rotation within a week.”
And I’d STILL call it crap for art . . ! *G*
Is Shouse the name of a family here? Don’t know the name. I moved here in 2005.
I’m thinking with Lou Dobbs falling in the ratings Fox is the last bastion of Crazy. And even though he has higher ratings than CNN Fox Business is not even rated plus ad revenues are down allot and Rupert has that debt to pay from buying the Wallstreet journal.
I’m thinking Rupert is over extended.
Not much. Building a couple of sites. Keeping the beans in the pot. And I got my social security award letter today. $1547.00 per month. With Ron’s social security check we have more security. So, if I make a little and Ron makes a little then we will be fine. We are almost fine now. Can you hear me exhale?
Ah but does he really have his old style and can he get his old viewers back?
There are none left in Knoxville.
Love the area though. I spent a lot of time in the mountains.
oh mary that is wonderful news *snoopy happy dance*
ain’t that weight lifting a wunnerful feeling!!!
an over extended asshole. There has to be a joke in there somewhere.
Could CNN then be working with Obama in a coordinated strike this might explain Lou looking at the Fox Business network even though they have no viewers.
Now, watch a bunch of work show up!
Does anyone actually watch Fox Business? I heard that ship is sinking fast.
TCU: did you see the cnn ad? it only ran in the 9am hour one Sunday morning. I saw it in that hour, stood, and applauded.
Damm Straight and I want to see him go!
of course it will (laughing)
Ahhh, Mary and Ron.
Bless ya both . . . so happy it’s gotten better.
Love ya both.
When can Ron play and pick again, with friends?
I might have some jams local to offer, thru others.
It would be an honor. And I owe him, a bit, of music, kharma, ya know.
*smiles*
Sure there is now if I could just tell the difference between Rupert’s Ass and Face:)
Given the Ratings I doubt anyone here even gets the channel let alone watches it and no I gave up cable.
Wait! News to me: Lou’s looking to move to Fox Business? He used to be CNN’s money guy, doing the financial news, before he returned in the summer of 2000 and they changed the format of his show, so it makes sense.
I’d be happy to see him get the f&*( off CNN. And Fox Business is a safe place to get rid of him.
Hey Suz . . . just a big *G* because.
Thanks for all you do, sistah .. *G*
He hasn’t played in a couple of years. I wish he would start again.
Yuckie but funny.
Indeed. I don’t get it. I watched it briefly at my parents’ house in NY. I wasn’t worth the time. Neither was Bloomberg, for that matter. I listen to CNBC and filter out most of the louder, annoying, useless stuff in order to hear information that’s worth having.
tis my pleasure dood
I think he’s playing the long con – putting a stick in the spokes of the vile liberals and shooting for market effect while waiting for the pendulum to swing. It always does.
Nothing to lose by engaging in such activities when the White House breaks Kabuki to call them a propaganda arm for the G.O.P., that just means the game’s afoot.
;>)
I try to avert my eyes from both!
If I could live my life without watching Dexter I would consider giving up tv and tv news altogether.
Well, I’m here if you or him needs me for a ride, a song, or a poke at him to pick.
To watch, see, hear, or pick in public.
Let him know. We could always go down to the Capitol Mall and street busk for pennies.
*G*
dood?
DOOD!
whats forking wrong with dood?
Nada. I prefer dude and dudette, but dood forkin’ works fine!
yea, like totally.
Ya’ll quit spooning.
living in santa cruz county did have an impact on my vocabulary — between the surfers and the boulder creek rednecks…
Good peeps. See you tomorrow!
g’nite mary
Youse and Suz ain’t SoCal enuff for PURE Valley Speak.
Like, ya know, (pops gum) for SUUUUUREEEE man.
*G*
I’d clip in Valley Gal by Zappa’s daughter, but I’m lazy tonite . .
*G*
Anyone else getting the feeling that we’ve been so thrilled by Grayson’s punch that we’ve missed asking whether or not he’s on point with calling for a strong public health insurance option that will be available to all Americans?
I’m starting to wonder whether he was sent out on purpose to shift the anger of Democrats away from Blue Dogs and back onto Republicans.
Seriously, I expressed my concern about the fact that Grayson wants to speed up the process more than he’s actually calling for a strong health care reform bill with a robust po, or any po, here.
Can anyone get Crooks and Liars I can’t and they had a great bit about how a Fox show fact checked everything the day after the show I think Obama or some WH Dem was the guest and they never have done that before or since.
A link to that story would be great!
I must admit I’m wondering who fact checked the Fox Fact check and I would love to see our Sunday Talking heads show fact checking appear on TV.
In fact that would make a great tv show!
bitchin’
OOOOOOOOOOOOO that’s some nasty hillbilly chat!!!
*G*
You GOT it goin, gal!!!!
Dang, remind me not to cross you OR yer inner raccoon . . . *G* ;-)
We were spooning, publicly? Or am I missing the meaning of spooning?
he’s certainly not perfect. i like to think he is authentic but… time will tell and the truth out eventually.
That’s my impression. I have no idea if Fox Business is offered here. I don’t have cable, and I’d never heard of it before tonight (for some reason, I thought Stossel had gone to Faux News). It’s nice that Dobbs will have less of an audience if he goes there.
Personally, I find it hard to imagine that there would be any interest in FB, given how badly CNBC screwed the pooch last year. Fox certainly has no more journalistic cred.
Hugs Mary, I’m glad!
i think they may be down… not loading for me
Did you see John Steward take Down Jim Cramer MSNBC’s biggest star I don’t think the Business channels have recovered their Cred yet!
No, not at all.
Just keep up with the reality of the congressional progression of it all, day by day.
There’s PLENTY of info out there, on a daily basis to tell ya all about it, Alfie.
If yer not doin that, yer behind, and uninformed.
And need to catch up.
IF, yer who ya say you are . . . . *G*
TOTALLY bitchen, man.
Course, that’s all boss, and surf tawk, and all that . . .
*G*
I have my doubts about the guy. He’s certainly one of those type A “alpha male” types who seem to win as much by intimidating or browbeating their opponents as through either reason or cooperation. While I can’t point to any links right now, I’ve read things that suggest that his health care priorities aren’t the best.
So, we’ll see. I’m happy to be proved wrong. Really happy, actually. We could sure use someone who is willing to stand up and speak out for progressive values, and not back down afterward.
oh my gawd becky
That’s ‘bitchin, ese’ where I come from.
I think that’s exactly why no one watches FB.
Mindless morons turn to Fixed ‘news,’ but no one who’s interested in putting their money on the table is going to want to be informed about business and the markets from a Rupert land.
I’m outta here, I smell trolls.
And the future will prove me right or wrong.
And in the meantime, no use me feeding them.
Nice, Suz, And Lurk.
Thanks for keepin me in the game tonight.
Bless all y’all, and be well Pups.
*G*
*poof*
g’nite larue — our pleasure hoss
Yes he is playing with a long term view but he also has debts now and less ability thanks to lower ad revenue to pay them Fox is spinning this war with the WH as helping their ratings but if all the 20%ers are already watching writing 11 on your Amp won’t really give you a boost.
Fox needs Moderates to watch their news Imus could give them that maybe at least until the next scandal. Lou scares off Moderates also advertisers want 18-35 Fox News gets more the McCain voter older White Males higher ratings are nice but not if advertisers don’t want that demo group.
In other words I think they could go under.
Who do I say I am?
Not sure what you meant at 127. Anyone else think that Larue thinks that I’m a troll?
Here’s an article that embeds the videos of that interview.
Agreed 100%
Thanks for trying Suz
Yes, I think of it as the Wall Street Journal philosophy – say whatever mindless stuff you want to in the editorial section, but our readers need to know what’s really going on. Therefore, don’t mess with the journalism.
da nada — whoops forgot the reply button.. to things
True Rupert created Fox Business because he did not think that the current business channels were Positive enough about the market.
Pre crash if Kudlow was any more Positive about companies that were going to crash after the banking crisis he would be giving viewers diabetes.
Response to Cujo359 @ 123
I’m fine with his style so long as his substance is right.
I’ll be thrilled if he comes out stronger in favor of a public option. At the end of my comment at 111, there’s a link to another of my comments. In that other comment, I have a link to my initial strong support for Grayson. I’m not tossing him yet, but I really would like to know more about where he actually stands.
But if you really listen to what he’s saying, it seems like he’s too focused on turning attention back to the Republicans and not so much interested in pointing out the bs of the Conservadems.
Trolls where!
I think between comments 121 and 127, Larue was talking about me…
Larue might have gotten offended that I questioned Grayson on substance.
One of tv’s finest moments !
indeed — twas wonderful to watch on teevee and then watch the unedited interview online
Sad how often they’re provided by comedians these days.
You know Rupert will mess with the Wall Street Journal’s journalism if he hasn’t already.
I did see it. It was hilarious bcz it was spot on! But then it just kind of faded away. What I can’t understand is how the market went up in July, and up in August, and didn’t fall down in Sept, and now seems to be moving up again. That’s not supposed to happen!
He’s supposed to have no editorial control at all, I think. Wasn’t it part of the deal when he bought it, that he would have no control over its content?
Yes, I certainly suspect that’s true. Ian Welsh wrote on a related theme the other day. Publishers have the power to make whatever they want appear in their publications is the implication I draw from it and the comments.
Deals well he owns the paper now who will stop him?
All you need to do is appoint the right underlings, and then you don’t have to interfere. The WaPo has shown that plenty of people are willing to compromise journalism if it slants things in their philosophical direction.
I draw the same implication from watching Fox news facts lies it doesn’t matter as long as your attacking Democrats.
I would have thought that having so much money, all pilled up bigger and higher than all the wildest dreams of avarice, would have stopped people like him long ago. What the %^&* else do they want? Seriously, how many thousands of dollars an hour does that CEO of UnitedHealth make?
Sept is normally the worse month for the market the fact the market didn’t go down is interesting. Still if this is a slow Christmas season Obama gets the blame but Fox dependent on ad revenue gets hurt too.
The Christmas time ad season starts around Thanksgiving some say after Halloween the size of the ad buys will be a great indication of how the market will do.
Money Power they are drugs too much is never enough Nite all!
I used to wonder the same thing about professional athletes. Why isn’t $10 million a year enough? I think that after a while, it’s just another way of keeping score.
saw some xmas stuff on the shelves at the freddie today — they still have the halloween displays up but there were several aisles of nothing but xmas trees and decorations.
g’nite things
Goodnight, TCU.
Yes, my local Freddy’s has christmas lights on the shelves already.
I do have some $ invested, between 3 different retirement plans and a little that I’ve just invested in a fund and some individual stocks. I’ve got about 4/5 of all that’s invested in cash/money market funds right now, and will switch it all back over to stock-based funds once the crash does come, which I am predicting will happen before the end of 2009.
i’m thinking about getting one of them fake trees this year. i’ve not done the xmas decorating for several years and started to get the stirrings of wanting to last year. haven’t figured out what kind to get yet … prelit with white i’m thinking — i can add color if i want to.
I wouldn’t even know what do to with $10 million, though I think if I had the means I’d find, say, $50 million enough to live out the life that I’d have if I could just do whatever I wanted!
But these guys give avarice the willies.
I have 4 cats. No trees! They’d just knock it over trying to play with the ornaments and stuff.
I really need to get at least 4 hours of sleep. Must go to the bed now.
Nite!
g’nite ktown — i have one cat and a dog that likes to ’save’ real trees. tis a conundrum
I assume I could find a way to get a 2 percent return on that $10 million. If I could, I’d be earning far more than I ever have from an employer.
Tis a conundrum, indeed! G’nite, doodette. Is doodette offensive?
nope — tis a term i have frequently used
Yes, cats and christmas trees are a bad mix. So are cats and electric trains.
Goodnight.
At 2 percent, you’d have $200,000 a year before taxes. Think that’d be enough?
i used to do the whole bit including the train under the tree.
haven’t done up for xmas since before i got token and before him, bailey cat so at least 5 christmas. been a while
Well, Suz. I think you’re the last one left standing. G’nite ;->
i sit — tis my secret :) g’nite
Like I said, that’s far more than I’ve ever earned. Even after taxes, that’s far more than I’d need to do anything I want to do.
going to half salary when i retired taught me how little i need to have to get by with. when my girls were little, we would do the what if game… a place on the water was always on my ‘if i was rich’ list
Same here. In truth, it would be cool to have a place on a lake or the ocean. But, I live fairly near the water now, and I can look at it just about any time I want. Around here, most of the waterfront property is on small lots, with many neighbors and far too much tourist traffic. It might not be as idyllic as we’d imagine.
my dream place was a houseboat on the water. looking at it out my windows comes pretty close. the bay is a whole nutter thang than oceanfront. tis a peaceful slow moving beauty.
guess i should mosey on out… thank you for the conversations tonight
g’nite all
That they are. There are lots of lovely spots around Lake Washington, although most are extremely pricey or extremely crowded, and sometimes both. Houseboats sound like fun, at least as long as there aren’t a lot of large ships passing close by.
I think it’s time for me to head on outta here. Goodnight, Suzanne, and anyone else who’s still around.
