So I’m working on the post for the morning during tonight’s Favre-o-palooza and I admit, I’m tapped out on ideas. Well, thank goodness there’s always a new ride on the right-wing crazy train.
Conservatives have launched a project to edit the Bible (again…no, again, no again, no this time) to get rid of all that inconvenient forgiveness, charity, and other liberal bullshit.
Seriously, look at the first of ten guidelines for the new and de-secularized Bible:
1. Framework against Liberal Bias: providing a strong framework that enables a thought-for-thought translation without corruption by liberal bias
It’ll just be begetting, beholding, enslaving, and smiting.
But my favorite of the ten points is this one which just admits how this decision was made and will be applied:
6. Accept the Logic of Hell…
Oh, shine on you crazy diamonds.

Whoa, now this is scary stuff and I’m in compliance now – Not.
“Accept the Logic of Hell: applying logic with its full force and effect, as in not denying or downplaying the very real existence of Hell or the Devil.”
I can’t wait for the part where Jesus gets bailed out and receives a large bonus.
The part where his credit card interest rate gets jacked up should be pretty good too.
I hope there are pictures. I want to see the one of Jesus riding the dinosaur.
Time to watch season 3 of Mr. Deity.
Conservapaedia.com homschoolin’ quiz kid project. These guys do need their own Bible.
Robert Fisk at The Independent has a recent post – The Demise of the Dollar, which should be looked at here: http://www.independent.co.uk/n…..98175.html
This has brought on a flurry of comments, many from the US, a truly amazing regurgitation of opinion, baseless “fact”, and rampant exceptionalism. As an expatriate, my humble opinion was:
Fisk was almost as outstanding as Attaturk’s offering this morning.
Sadly, it appears the entire Conservapedia site has gone offline. I assume their web server has been raptured.
……Conservapedia site has gone offline.
Could it be because it was just too fucking insane to survive?
Good morning all and thanks for the post, Attaturk.
Angel, try this link:
http://conservapedia.com/Conse…..le_Project
Sadly, it seems to be working.
Morning all. This looks like a great opportunity to great rid of that pesky commandment about bearing false witness.
Is it just me or is this the most unambiguously Orwellian shit you’ve ever heard:
“10. Prefer Conciseness over Liberal Wordiness: preferring conciseness to the liberal style of high word-to-substance ratio; avoid compound negatives and unnecessary ambiguities; prefer concise, consistent use of the word ‘Lord’ rather than ‘Jehovah’ or ‘Yahweh’ or ‘Lord God.’”
Holy fuckin’ shit. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there’s been plenty of this already, but this is just so farcical I feel like they must be double-agents for our side.
I’m pretty sure most of conservapedia was taken over by trolls long ago, who then posted whacky landoverbaptist-type satire. Hard to tell the difference, really.
If this is a real movement and not a clever troll, all you need to do is point out that the Bible is supposed to be the LITERAL word of God and watch their heads explode with the paradox.
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Mr. Herbert this morning. In “Bentham vs. Hume” Bobo says this country is about to have a big debate over whether government should be actively involved in organizing and promoting innovation. Mr. Herbert asks “Does Obama Get It?” and says President Obama should confront the employment crisis with a sense of urgency, but he has not shown he understands the gravity of the situation.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins with your favorite jam. If you’re not quite up to handling the Conservapedia
BibleBabbleBabel please allow me to offer an alternative for your consideration. The LOL Cat Bible Translation Project is much farther along, and hews very closely to the original meaning. (I read the first chapter of Genesis and laughed until I wept. Any Bible translation that begins with “Oh hai” cannot fail…) Have a great day.To the Bible revisionists!
Take your “bible” and shove it, cause you don’t read it no more……. Your retention rate must be next to zero, like some over worked Bangkok whore?
You’ve forgotten all about that “golden rule,” with your zeal and absolutist flaws while casting that first stone, because you think you are without flaws!
Meantime, keep pointing that finger, passing “judgment” all the time and I’ll remind you while you conveniently forget what that good book says… “vengeance is mine!” Hypocrites all the time!!!
Scoundrels, wrapped in Ole Glory with Bible in Hand! Tar and Feathers or Spitballs and straw………….
The part about the big government bureaucrats getting thrown out of the temple should be fun.
Good morning. Went over and read the whole post about wingnuttery. I’m still flabbergasted over the cheers when we lost the Olympics. Didn’t get a chance to watch much tv the last few days. How much exposure did that get?
More on topic: Somewhere, in the last week or so, there was a photo of a man holding a sign with a biblical passage about executing a new wife if she wasn’t a virgin. Then in parenthesis was the line ‘we can quote the bible, too’. Liked it.
And of course the money changers keep rolling along.
Giving unto corporations insteae of Caesar should be fun, and the part about the things of this earth are so to what you need to go for – forget giving to the church, oh, no more church, it’s all about the corporation with the steeple.
So.. the New Testament is gone?
But we’ll have a new new testament.
Nope. I can’t even get the Conservapedia home page. Maybe I’m in hell, which is quite real, you know. That would explain all these beautiful naked women lounging around in my living room. Well, gotta go.
Doesn’t work for me either.
The broke shall inherit the debt for theirs is the kingdom of servitude.
Morning, Marion – I, too, am worshiping at the English Muffins alter this morning. And I think the LOL Cat Bible translation is JUST what I need this morning.
You are not one of the chosen people.
Fortunately, the true word is still available online:

Well said!
Per CNN, Petraeus (sp?) is undergoing treatment for cancer.
Thanks.. :)
No, but it’s replaced by Jesus being suddenly rescued off the cross by Chuck Norris in a Helicopter and then the two of them spray the gathered residents of Palestine with machine gun fire and various missiles [accompanied by Wilhelm screams] as the Romans cheer them on by waving tiny American flags.
From what I recall from reading part of it yesterday when Jesus casts the demon out of the possessed man he tells it to “Shut up.” God, the poetry of the thing is spectacular… /snark
Where does “My God is bigger than his god” go into?
The Book of Counterinsurgencies?
Instead of attacking the money changers, Jesus goes in with a wad of singles and MAKES IT RAIN!
“The rain is falling through the mist of sorrow…….” “Waterproofed singles,” fresh off the press from China?
OT, and nonhumorous:
Project MOCKINGBIRD keeps on singing.
so I guess jesus is now out of favor among the neo-cons, that didn’t take long now did it
I think sombody is having fun with these guys. You ever notice how Stephen Colbert and that guy are never seen together?
This is the logic:
“What the Bible says Jesus taught does not agree with what my hero says on this here radio.”
Solution: Make a new “Bible” out of Limbaugh quotes. He does say his talent is on loan from God.
This can’t be real, right?
The new New Testament Gospels will consist solely of John 1:1-2 followed by the Gospel of Supply Side Jesus. The Pauline letters will be left pretty much untouched, except for Corinthians. James gets sh*tcanned, of course. And Revelations comes first this time.
Whenever I read about conservative religious wingnuttery, I have a Pavlonian Monty Python response.
“NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!!!!”
seems to me this is the reason jefferson did not want a central bank
what the hell is money anyway?
I never got the concept of money, all it does is represent confidence, I have confidence that you will give me some kind of value for this worthless piece of paper, I have confidence this worthless piece of paper represents my sweat, toil and labor.
and what the hell is gold?
gold is nothing, it has value only because we say it has value, I would much rather a monetary system be based on a unit of labor, one dollar equals five minutes of labor as it compares to a living wage
once that is established there is no longer inflation…an interesting concept which I thought up all by my self
“supply side Jesus is also reffered to with “trickle down Jesus”, and “voo doo Jesus”, also known as “federalist Jesus”
all would be one and the same
I believe that early on they reveal (probably as a favor to General Boynton) that god’s real name is ‘Dick.’
The writers of the new revised revision of the bible should be amply supplied with oxycontin to assist with clarity of vision.
Is he big and does he swing?
He takes his Extenze every day.
Not working either. Seems the things been taken over by a higher power!
Jesus Christ, I get back from walking the dogs and I get this Cheney skank on Joe. Have to say that Joe is pushin back. Barnicle is deep in her ass.
you know, it really would have been a stroke of liberal genous if it were the liberals who began the project
that would bring all the nuts out front and it would drive the real believers to the democrats
There is a centuries-old history of each generation’s power brokers attempting to re-write history to reflect the way they want it, so it certainly seems plausible to me.
Sorta like what they’re doing with their Patron Saint of Rayguns:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/ind…..cy_Project
Fortunately, some are fighting back:
http://www.progressivebookclub…..Key=2115b6
It’s up and down. I’ll bet they’re not used to the kind of traffic generated by FDL and teh SadlyNaughts (who also snarked on this)!
What is the purpose of that blond woman who works with Joe every day? I almost never watch, but she’s always sitting there nodding her head.
She is there so she can get her dad to show up now and then.
And her dad is?

Wow, you’re fast! I owe you a beverage…
Sorry, Adam Smith, “The Wealth of Nations”, 1776 referred to labour as real measure of value. He could not calculate a numeric value and opted for a nominal value that could be calculated, at the time Sterling based upon silver. He has many pages of commentary about this in The Wealth of Nations as well as historical development of English coinage and comparative assessments against the Spanish Real system.
That was the first time I’ve seen $1.00 = 5 minutes wages though, interesting concept that.
After reading the post, I was trying to remember which council decided on the books to be included in the bible. I incorrectly remembered the Council of Nicea and googled it. In so doing, I came across this touchy-feely prohibition ordained by that council:
Finally, the council promulgated twenty new church laws, called canons, (though the exact number is subject to debate[33]), that is, unchanging rules of discipline. The twenty as listed in the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers are as follows:[34]
1. prohibition of self-castration; (see Origen)
This is obviously another example of the the damned liberals taking all the fun out of rugged individualism.
Hey, Attaturk, thanks for this. Love the picture. For some reason, I’m hearing Dylan’s Highway 61 in my head.
Think of Johnny Winter’s version!
Thanks twolf and Marion. That explains it!
My laptop has no sound, but the second the mister awakes and gets on line, I’ll take a listen. Tanks!
How are you, by the way?
of course it’s been proposed that the real wealth of a nation is the product it produces, therefore labor
but has anyone you know of proposed basing the dollar on labor vs a product?
adam smith still used a comodity for the base (silver), I am using labor for the base, that was my point
The main hinderance has been the calculation of the quantity of labour that is utilized to produce “national product”, e.g. how is a physician’s labour (and the investment in becoming a physician) compare with say a coal miner (who ostensibly receives wages accounting for the dangers of the working environment), or a farmer (an incredible swathe of knowledges and experiences are necessary to function), or a fisherman (never discount the knowledge and experience required to do the “simplest” of work). Only in recent times have analogues been developed on a computer to recreate the energy paths that occur in a forrest ecosystem starting with the sunshine that falls on the forrest. This type analysis and analogue has not been done on economic systems, to my knowledge. Without such verifiably accurate model, that information is beyond the grasp of economists and will remain beyond knowing other than in abstract.
Hahaha
um.. OK. Now the truth comes out. They’re Dualists! American fundies are Dualists! That ancient heresy which argued for the existence not of one god but of two opposing forces…. Cathars, Manichaeists, Zoroasterians all believed this. They’re NOT Monotheists! They don’t believe in one god! Let me make it clear – this quote appears to confirm my longstanding suspicion that they they reject the notion that there is one god.
Now it’s all starting to make sense.
From the Vicor of Dibley (written by Richard Curtis and/or Paul Mayhew-Archer):
Here’something for them to re-write. Genesis 9-11, long used by American fundies and Southern Baptists to justify slavery and racism (despite the fact that it actually says nothing whatsoever about either topic) will be re-written as “White Americans shall keep slaves and persecute Black people” just for the avoidance of doubt… Leviticus will also be re-written eliminating all the laws (such as adultery) except for the one prohibiting homosexuality.
Fundies aren’t fundamentalists. They don’t believe in literal interpretations of the Bible at all. They project their own primitive tribal biases into faith. This project is intended to enable them to do more of exactly that.
Here’s a link to a Norman Tebbit article, btw.
here’s some interesting theology that I googled about American fundamentalists being Manichaean dualists.

RE translations: Conserva’s web page says:
“Conservapedia…The Trustworthy Encyclopedia”
Translation = ‘Eat at Mom’s’
An actual real scholar, John Dominic Crossan, comments about The Dangers of Fundamentalism, courtesy of ‘Living the Questions’ – a project which I’m sure Conservapedia abhors.
“…1776 referred to labor as real measure of value.” Now it is Return on Investment………Morlocks and the Eloi? (Sp) When Churchill asked FDR for US made tanks after Rommel had kicked the British tank division in N. Africa, Ford, a mature manufacturing corporation retooled in less than 18 months to “manufacture” war products in a wartime economy!
Today we make money on Money, by raping our own in the lust for profit! Common Sense defined by stupidity?
God is going to let them rewrite His Word??????????????
I suspect there will be some serious smiting going on over there.
“one dollar equals five minutes of labor”
Would that be real, coal-mine type labor or the kind of labor I did as a teenager, which mostly involved standing around scratching my ass?
I see the potential for inflation here. :)
Ha! Looks like I’m not the first one to think about coal miners.
Accepting the logic of Hell seems wise. Best that Republicans get used to it now, so that it won’t be such a shock later.
Let me break in her, though the topic is far from the main topic of Attaturk’s post. Adam Smith’s chapter’On Real and Nominal Value,’ in the Wealth of Nations is as T-Bear alludes, an attempt to find a price deflator to eliminate the effect of changes in the price level on international and intertemporal comparisons of production and other economic variables. The deflator he argued for was the hnominal wage. When you divide any price by the nominal wage, you get that price expressed in units of unskilled labour time — e.g., days of unskilled labour for the daily wage. Smith argued that because wages are inflexible in the short run (what else is new?) ande track the general price level in the long run, they make a good price deflator. He didn’t have a concept of CPI or GDP deflator, because the relevant theory wasn’t available, not to mention the data. His choice is brilliant, since it actually is close to a CPI. Keynes used the same device in the first chapter of his General Theory. As to Smith’s talk about labour being a constant standard of value, what he meant was that the toil and trouble of an hour’s work is roughly the same for every person at every time, and so at that level of approxcimation, is a fixed unit.
How do I know all this? I lectured on it last Friday.
I seem to recall a “Stainless Steel Rat” book with the same premise; the amount of work done was kept track of by computer, and credits issued on that basis.
Republicans are assholes.
It can’t be said enough.
They are amoral hypertribalist authoritarian scum who care only for the advancement of their own in-group, at all costs. Anyone who doubts this need only attempt to count on the fingers of one hand the federal agencies that *weren’t* politicized and made worse by the Republicans between 2000 and 2006. (If you like, you can use the fingers of an Iraq War veteran who no longer has any hands. There aren’t any.)
well, that number was just off the top of my head, I believe a dollar should be representative of a quantity of labor as it would by a living hourly wage.
of course some people would bargain for more then a living wage and that’s where salary would rise, however bottom salary would always equal a living wage
You know, of all things on God’s green earth I never thought I’d see, this takes the cake. This is…
Umm….
Wow. I don’t have a clue what to say now.
But I’ll talk anyway, I’m a progressive. This is actually really good for us, I think. Most conservatives think the Bible was produced, as is, in King’s English, at some point in the past (their memory doesn’t stretch back farther than a week, so it was always there for them). So the idea of translating it- of a “new” Bible- will literally cause brain dissonance with them. This may be the final sign that the conservatives are crumbling- a conservative Bible.
Ironic that the thing they so proclaim to love must be modified to suit their needs. That tells you everything you need to know about conservatives.
Oh, just one more thing- the picture at the top there? Is the best picture that could ever be added.
“Accept the logic of Hell”? Yeah, because eternal, unimaginable torment without hope of redemption ever is completely just and proportional punishment for the witless mistakes of a brief and limited human life.
And if you were virtuous but happened not to be converted to Christianity… you STILL go to Hell! Forever! That is so incredibly fair & equitable!
(end disgusted snark…)
Attaturk,
Don’t know if you went to the actual retard-o-pedia page with this dreck on it, but the project is being driven off it’s conservative cliff by the spawn of long time Uber Maitre d’Wingnut Phyllis Schlafly, Andy. Go figure. I guess that it’s not enough to be all about wrecking the Constitution, now that family is gunning for the Bible.
What is it with wingnut genetics? That might be a Nobel-worthy study right there… the Goldbergs, Schlafly’s, Kristols…etc. Is there a chromosome deficiency that makes them somehow unable to see past their own self-interest?
You can get on the wingnut page from here….
http://www.conservapedia.com/Main_Page
Biblical revisionism comes easily to the Conservative, because he has usually read very little of the book and that mostly in extracts and pamphlets. I am always amazed how quickly a supposedly God-fearing Christian Conservative can be routed and reduced to muttering by a few accurate quotations from memory.
While waiting for a healthcare townhall, I was challenged by a small knot of these people who could not tell me what two principles contained the whole of the Jewish law, according to Jesus. When told that the second of these was “love your neighbor as yourself”, they said that you had to love your family first. When asked what Jesus had to say about family first, they didn’t know–and wouldn’t believe me when I told them. When they tried to say that the neighbors that they had to take care of were poor members of their own splinter congregation, I brought up the Good Samaritan. Never heard of him.
At that point I gave up. It just wasn’t fun anymore. Their god is their belly and serving Mammon pays better.
And yet these are the same yahoos who, if asked whether the Bible is “the literal word of God” will answer in the emphatic affirmative. (But don’t confuse ‘em by bringing up all the different versions and translations… most of ‘em think the Bible is and always was in King James English, and that it’s also what Jesus spoke.)
They’ve got willful ignorance, doublethink, and cognitive dissonance down to an absolute art.
Great post, Attaturk! I saw it this morning and have been laughing all day.
This is the C Street gang’s agenda . . .
No more of that old New Testament love thy neighbor crap — it’s Old Testament eye for an eye beat the shit out of anyone who disagrees with you stuff.
It’s the same sermon Deacon Tom Coburn preaches from the pulpit — biblical capitalism and fascist methods all rolled into one neat evangelical authoritarian theocracy package.
Their next move will be a violent overthrow of the government. They’ve already vacated their C Street digs and have gone undercover.
Jesus will become a hedgefund manager in the bible now! Just terrific! Spit.
Try quoting Matthew 6:5-6:6 to street preachers sometime. They fucking HATE it.
Thanks Attaturk, et al. To laugh or to cry, that is the question.
