About Firedoglake
morning, Elliott, what a surprise, terrifically principled and competent Susan Rice, really worth the attention on MTP.
Good morning, pups. MoDo is off today, so it’s Friedman, Kristof and Rich. The Moustache of Wisdom, in “Still Not Tired,” says though we may be tired of this “war on terrorism,” the bad guys are not. They are getting even more creative. Mr. Kristof gives us “Dad’s Life or Yours? You Choose.” He says because of our dysfunctional health insurance system, stepping up to save a loved one can ruin your chances of being insured. Mr. Rich, in “The Rabbit Ragu Democrats,” says we’re not even nine months into the new administration, yet swaggering lobbyists seem determined to prove that the Beltway’s pay-for-play culture still exists.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got a choice of eggs Benedict or eggs Florentine this morning. I’ve got a bunch of work that’s backed up, so I’m off to be responsible. Have a great day.
Cornyn and Kyl are the best they can drudge up this week?
Slim pickins’ I guess……
headlines of Chris M.; goes into what Pres.O. faces in getting Afghanistan in hand.
Tweety; need decision on taking the McChrystal line, that Taliban is about to return without U.S. getting back into the swamp vs. unreality of war
Woodward; its about self-employed vs. acting to establish reasonable, really, changed definition of the mission, don’t need those troops. Stable enuff.
Bumiller; military isn’t happy.
Woodward; another Iraq wouldn’t be ideal, either. Need new goals. Pause is good.
Tweety; panelists split even on whether will send troops or not.
Katty; but what are the new troops for? training doesnt equal 40K. not a decision needed now.
Woodward; real options needed.
Bumiller; pt of no return. six months before troops really arrive.
Fineman; protect the people plan here, O’s vision, in for his presidency,
Tweety; agree
Good morning everyone. Seems like the work crew was roused early this fine day.
I’d like to hear Ritter, but I’ve got friends coming for breakfast.
I’ll believe The Moustache of Wisdom when he says he is not tired when he starts supporting taxes to pay for the war.
Taxes on the rich that is I gave at the gas pump!
Moustache of Wisdom thats yours right? Its a great characterization!:)
What no mention of another Viet Nam if we bring in more troops? Someone is stopping the Media from saying the V word.
Isn’t Condi her cousin if so I wonder what happened to her?
So Elliot any chance of getting Michael Moore here to talk? If so I think he should get more time because everyone will be here and asking him questions.
He might need a secretary to keep up with the questions and an intern to find links though:)
Morning All. Thanks Elliott. Why does This Week continue to exist? Both of the Georgies need to be put out to pasture.
Corporate Welfare the Media still thinks they can control our minds if they lie repeatedly enough times to brain wash us?
Heck they do drive people to the arms of Lefty blogs:)
A closet lobbyist, a closet case, a closet Republican and a closet racist.
Well, Woodward got there as an ex. of bad decision making. And,Obama trying to avoid same.
I think we need an FDL poll how many of us before we found the net watched the sunday shows, the weekday news, listened to the radio read the paper?
Aside from BBC and PBS how many do now or watch, read, listen as often?
How many prefer the Lefty news we get here and the chance to talk about it?
And why on earth would you be bringing up the V word?
A big hats-off to Hillary Clinton for her ability to transition to new roles….no snark, from what I could tell.
How come on the news shows Obama is linked to every terrorist but Glen Beck and the GOPers are never linked to the people they tell their minions to shoot?
sorry, the rain is knocking me offline here, but yes, this is Condi’s cousin, and she does occasionally comment on how warped a view the wingers took, and that she doesn’t know how Condi got so misled. Also, yes, the V word was not around this a.m., not even a quagmire.
Woodward was also a little spanked by the panel since he couldn’t find a conflict inside the admin, but kept probing, while Fineman tho’t O is brilliant to keep the conflicts in the Congress while his admin gets its sea legs.
Cause the Corporate owned Media won’t just how do GOPers maintain the fiction the Media is Liberal a true Liberal would have been calling these wars Vietnam on day 1 on the news
The fact they were not says we don’t control the media.
I”m thinking we should poll some trolls and ask them who gives the better smackdowns to their lies us or the MSM on the sunday shows?
Their reply what smackdowns? On the Sunday shows you can lie and be all kinds of crazy it was the blogs who called Sarah Palin out on her Katie interview not Katie.
Trolls come to blogs because they like a fight, and getting beat on they don’t like the sunday shows because guys like George Stephanopoulos they just lie there they don’t fight back no matter how weak the attack George and the rest of the fake Liberals on the MSM throw the weakest counter punches then they give up.
They are paid to take a dive.
Condi Rice does have a liberal cousin, but it’s Constance “Connie” Rice. Susan Rice is no kin to Condi Rice. From Wiki:
Rice attended Stanford University, where she received a Truman Scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1986. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.[4] She and Condoleezza Rice, the former U.S. Secretary of State, are both female foreign policy experts of African-American descent who have ties to Stanford University; however, they are not related.[5]
morning all!
asking alan greenspan where the economy is going
failure sure does pay doesn’t it?
he didn’t know where the economy was going when he ran it…although it’s possible he’s had some kind of revelation and now knows the labor/production/midlle class is more important then the investment class, but I doubt it
Katrina!!!
She’s gonna rip George, George and Cokie a new one.
panera live blogging, I have my coffee, my sausage egg and cheese, my gateway laptop, (piece of crap) my free wireless internet curtousy of panera bread, my table by the window, looking at overcast but sun trying to burn through.
how is everyone 2 day?
nor is white rice but condi loves playing pretend
oooops, sorry, and thanks, I had mixed them up, had heard an interview with Constance, and it got mixed in with other info re; Susan Rice. Appreciate being straightened out.
I’m in a Preachin mood check out the comments at the end of the last thread:)
you make an interesting point;
I play some professional poker and I have a saying, “some people want to lose”
this is true in general in a casino but it’s only true of certain people at a poker table
for instance, if I am superman some people would get a kick out of racing me, they know they can’t win but they want to race
in poker you see someone looking at 3 fours on their oponents hand and playing with a pair of aces
why?
they know they lose 8 out of 10 of these hands but they seem to think they are supposed to fight since they have aces
these people “want to lose”
republicans I have noticed, will abandon their principles if their party trashed those principles
case in point, there are a few republicans in my life I once respected because I thought they had principles
but then when their party demonstrated an abandonment of those principles these “principled republicans” abandoned said principles
I have of course lost respect for these republicans but there are some who remained true
rare but there were those too
goes to read
Good Morning Ruth,
Thanks for the heads up on Rice
having fun there aren’t you!
you can do a sunday morning sermon at the seminal!
Not Robert Dallek, The whole premise of the discussion on Washington Journal is Comparing Afghanistan with Viet Nam.
I don’t think she’s related to Condi
Her husband works for stephy on This Week tho, I did not know that
Casey’s been speaking out for the PO, I appreciate that.
Good morning all. Anyone talking about the unpatriotic response of the right over the Rio Olympics?
agreed!
I had the same question the first time I saw Susan Rice, during the campaign. It’s a lot of college tuition between the three Rice’s, but 2/3rds of it seems to have been well spent.
There seems to be some weird attacks on ACORN. That is weirder than the attacks by Karl Rove through the loyal Bushies at the Dept. of Justice. Or perhaps KKKarl is part of it. I am sorry “perhaps” is being generous to these people.
Pretend pimp, or maybe real pimp O’Keefe, has been protecting “white Culture” since he somehow got into college.
Maybe After I get some Breakfast I want pizza but noplace is open.
matza, catsup, cheese of your choice, nukeroo, bing…PIZZA
I bet you can get any diner to do this for you
Morning perris, pass the salt, please.
What about guys like Bill lost over a million gambling Bennett? What are you thoughts on Losers who think they win for example Bush? Why lose as you say why want to lose and then lie about it?
I’m surprised you don’t put up diaries…
(that would be a hint :)
Good morning Perris. Sunday wouldn’t be SUNDAY without your Panera live blogging. Do you ever go for lunch? Their Greek salad is terrific!
And, get a MAC and ditch that piece of Gateway s*it. LOL
I second that motion!!!
Oh Fox will be covering the Obama “FAIL”
you can bet your bottom dollar they won’t be covering the wingnuts cheering.
ABC’s Roundtable will give us some perspective on David Letterman!!
oh that picture of him over there is priceless
I left out…that was from the Matthews’ panel..all glowing. Later…
And this has value how?
I picked up the lead to this over at Benen’s place (my #2 stop on my morning blog rounds) and thought you all would be interested:
Health Care Reform: Privately, Barack Obama strongly backs public option
YMMV
Ruth, thanks for the reports. Later!
Blasphemy I’m from the Chicago area (sob) there already is to much catsup pretending to be pizza sauce in Seattle that and the never put enough sauce on…I’m in Pizza hell I got to go all the way to the UW to find pizza the frozen stuff is better than fresh.
I have no clue.
Working on it:)
you can’t gamble against a casino, you can only gamble against people
in poker someone has to lose but usually thea re big losers that give their money to the good players, the losers loose more then the winners win, that’s simple math
All this talk about Pizza is making me verry verry hungry for some.
IMHO, David Letterman is toast. The right wing has perfected taking down their enemies. They are going to talk this to death and no one will come to his aid. By the time they’re done, half of America will think he’s a rapist.
Cokie Roberts has an issue. Let me use my “remote viewing” powers to predict Cokie is shocked. She will want to join Mika Bresniitsee and DEMAND an investigation of Letterman. It has been revealed that Dave dated an intern. Did Dave also refuse to date Cokie? Of course RV, remote viewing, is not 100% accurate.
take some of the oil from a can of aleach and add it to sauce, yum
LOL!
Atrios’s take on the Talking Heads this morning:
Too bad Scarborough was off Friday, does Mika not know about Joe’s dead intern? And then she adds she married a man s he worked with. “It’s OK for me, but not for thee” much, Mika?
I haven’t had their greek salad, I usually get the chicken cob (I LOVE gorganzola cheese!)
I have the “pick two” and usually get the french onion, substituting the swiss for, (you guessed it), gorganzola
sometimes I get the tomatoe and throw in some..(fill in the blank)
when they have forest mushroom soup you cannot tear me from this place
I had tons of pepper on my eggs today, just that kind of mood
off for some end of season tenis, see al L8tre!
Thanks for the link. But this stands out:
Translation: shut up and leave, DFHs. We serious people have real business to transact.
But please leave your checks on the table by the door.
Cokie is on Disney TV and Mika is on GE TV. But I do not think that is the reason they want to remove Dave who is on CBS. Dave has just had too much darn fun with the ladies. It is time for Dave to pay for all that good lovin’. This should be a lesson to us all. Sex is not free. Letterman also has made fun of Caribou Barbie and that does offend the Dee Cee Village women.
Aces!
As long as he wasn’t abusing the women (think O’Reilly) or abusing the power he held over them (think O’Reilly)…
But for the Sunday morning shows, surely there’re more significant matters to opine upon, like say what are the relationships the relatives of our Representatives and Senators have with lobbyists — for instance, eh not?
Good Morning Elliot!
Yeah, that was sorta my take. And Frank Rich’s column (link from Marion at #2) about the continuing influence of lobbyists, including Gephart and Elmendorf, ties right in.
My sister told me a few weeks ago that she thinks I am as left-wingnut as the right wingnuts, she thinks Obama is “the best president in my lifetime” (she’s 62). All prompted, apparently, by my posting the link to the “No Guts, No Glory” poster on Facebook.
And good morning to you! I’m not an eggs benedict or eggs florentine type 9sorry Marion), you have any of those chocolate croissants your neighborhood bakery is famous for?
Or maybe they could discuss Ensign’s ethics and Coburn’s complicity. Who cares what Letterman does, in the overall scheme of things?
Bill Kristol:
Obama tried to bully the Olympic Committee – and imagine if Bush had done this?
oh yes! Ensign and his sidekick Coburn.
Do you mean a croissant sticky bun? Sorry they stopped making them for whatever reason. They do have fresh pizza dough now, so I can offer you homemade pizza with fresh tomatoes and basil.
Recommendation for Sen Coburn: Romance your wife and don’t double date with Ensign.
Brett Baier (in for Chris Wallace)
Coming up the lousy employment numbers
We all thought the worst was behind us. (Get out of your bubble, Brett)
mMm
sounds scrumptious and just what I am hungry for.
LOL!
What a perfect duo for the old Saturday Night Live WIld and Crazy Guys skit.
yes!
Shockers – no comment about Ensign by the Fox News AllStars.
Their issue? Trash Letterman, drive down his ratings. Protect the NBC and ABC franchise [such as they is…]
Hmm, could that possibly be true?
ABC, CBS Tell Shows’ Stars: Don’t Go On Leno
they wouldn’t try to sabotage each other, would they? /s
Wife studying Susan Rice now on MTP – if those black pearls on her neck are real, she is way overpaid.
Also it is necessary to teach the Village Peasants that sex has a price. And they will pay for it one way or another, if they offend the Village Executive Morality Board.
“Credibility is a condition of persuasion. Before you can make a man do as you say, you must make him believe what you say.”[

Susan Rice’s are bigger than Gregory’s… just sayin’.
LOL!!
But Gregory cluthces his so much better!
Seriously, this guy ran the economy off of the cliff, he is smart enough that he could have tamped down the real estate bubble if he’d been so inclined. But that would clash with his efforts to reduce Americans to abject serfdom.
But the elites pine for their salad days, and they think that Greenspan can pull another rabbit out of his hat.
An empire falls into decadence when there are no consequences for failure amongst the elites, no moral hazard for their short-sightedness.
Asking Alan Greenspan for his opinion on economics would be like asking a fundamentalist Christian for their opinion on evolution.
gee, what would happen if obama spent a fraction of the energy he’s spent on “teachable moments” on actually fighting for the public option?
not gonna happen: smarmy tool is smarmy
