hey nahant – congrats on the zed. how’s the bay area tonight?
getting cold… Jules had me light up the wood burner…. hows things up there on the coast??
Geez, Nahant, it’s only 10/3 . . . there’s a week to go!!
Don’t peak early!!! LOLOLOLOL
down to the low 40’s — some areas projected for the 30’s — getting our first blast of air from up et’s way. am toasty warm inside with the jutal blazing.
gary-the-wood-guy brought me more today stacked it up next to the stove and reminded me to call him if my stack gets low and he will refill it.
Hey y’all…it’s only supposed to get up to 68 in San Jose tomorrow.
hello gary need wood….. see ya soon…
hey that guy – that’s downright freezing down there — time to dig out a second down comforter for the bed.
pretty much — nice guy.
We’re going to Hardly-Strictly tomorrow. Mike Farris and Mavis Staples back to back on the Rooster Stage. My back has been paining me so I won’t be running around much but it’s an incentive to lost all the weight I need to lose.
OK pups who’s coming on the tenth for the fall meetup of the Bear Creek/NorCal chapter of FDL??
I still don’t know, Nahant. It may be a game-time decision.
oooooooh i always wanted to go to hardly strictly. be sure to let me know how it was and who ya saw yada yada yada
try one of those heat wraps on your back. they last a while and help some when doing a lotta walking or sitting (at least help me some)
nahant – who all is gonna be there. i sure wish i was but i’m saving for teeth :( :( :(
GREAT toon Suz. Love that Dawh, and Ah Say, Ah Say, That Foghorn.
Right up there with the sheep dawgs and foxes and the sheep, clockin in on shifts.
“Hi Ralph.”
*G* Great toon pick!
hey larue – glad ya liked it (and watched it even). foggy has always had a special place in my pea picking heart.
no one so far lots of ?? but no commitments..

Hey all. I hate autumn!
maybe it is too soon or just a bad weekend?

Something needs to be done about Diaper Dave Vitter. There is a complaint of Professional Misconduct, but that would only take away his law license. I want to take away his diaper and his Senate Seat.
GP needs a little help. So if there are any legal eagles with too much time on their hands, here is an opportunity…
Love the toon Suz!
Here’s Yer Lineup, Any Questions?
At over 100,000 per day, and people with pets, and NO parking close by . . .
The BEST way to do it is how my Santa Cruz pals do it.
Get rooms at The Beresford Fri-Sun nights.
Taxi in at 7am EACH DAY to lay blankets and tarps, put down coolers with food and libations, and don’t plan on seeing many stages. Cuz you can’t WALK between stages, for the most part, due to the crowds.
By the time you leave one stage and get to the other, the 45 minute set is over.
And don’t EVEN think of having to pee. Lines are huge all day long. Pee in the trees, if ya can.
But still, my pals seem to have fun every year. Go figger! lol
hey frank — how ya doing? tis an excellent diary
hey margot – glad ya liked it. how’s ohio tonight?
Suz, I’m still modded . . . no one released me two comments above . . . sigh . .
larue — i checked and all your comments have been freed.
Ah, thanks, two were still modded after more recent one’s were released.
Guess it’s just the delay thingie . . . sorry to bother you and Lurkish . . . *bows*
de nana larue
Oh thank you, what am I doing besides getting into trouble…Reading The Spies of Warsaw by Alan Furst.
Every day is shorter. Spring is my season.
Threaten me with a leaf peeping trip and I’ll cry :-)
i love the crispness in the air and have been more of a night owl so shorter days don’t bother me none. fall reminds me of comfort food, warm snuggles, a roaring fire.
Sunny! I am not real fond of it right about now either.
I’m going to try once a week tanning. That’s worth 10,000 IU Vit D right there.
margot – isn’t there some article — dayam i wish i could remember where i saw it – that said upping vit d helps the body not get the flu
i figure since i’m not drinking as much milk as i used to, i should supplement
I’m finding lots of articles but I can’t find the one I want…i think it’s in my inbox, actually
Here’s one
sweet.. thanks margot – i think it is a different article that says the same thing
How is that, Frank? I’m reading Six Suspects by Vikas Swarup.
i’m still reading nixonland. i pick it up and read some and then read something that takes me on a secondary trip down memory lane.
Evening all. I can’t watch Mother Was a Rooster [dinosaur dial-up] ] but that is exactly the relationship I have with my hand-raised laying hens. I AM their mother. I AM their rooster.
I feel like a Republican. They assume the submissive squat when I walk by. Because I have power.
I am Powerful among my chickens.
Watch your back, Glenn Beck.
*laughing* hey open hope — i can picture you doing that strut walking by ‘em.
Taking my whiny ass to bed.
Love to my friends in the computer.
g’nite sunny – may your tomorrow be filled with warm sunshine to lift your spirits
It was scary by page 28. Furst is great. I am surprised they have not made a movie out of his books yet.
How is life treating you, Suzanne? And thank you again and again and again for being here, doing your thing. Opening channels of communication for night owls….
It’s an interesting exercise being removed from most internet activity because of life situations.
Like being deprived of oxygen, only different………………
Ok, I’m goin off here.
Martha Scanlon, Lead Vocals, Heidi Clare Fiddle. Reel Time Travelers.

You stay up on Bear Creek, you get like Jesse James.
You stay up on Bear Creek, you get like Jesse James.
You take to a pistol, and you rob that Bear Creek Train.

When my kids were little the only songs I knew all the lyrics to and were in my voice range were Prine and Simon and Garfunkle.
Kind of feel guilty about their lullabies, but they grew up to be strong people.
hello darkness my old friend is a wonderful introduction for a lullabye

Hi BB, I’ve been wondering where you were too. Are you rowing yet?
Hey, MY job is to annoy and offer music ya NEVER heard . . . *G*
I get my inspiration from YOUR music, which often, I have never heard of, too!
*G*
Fair trade!!!! LOL
*laughing*

There’s SO much more to the game! *G*
(Costner N Sarandon, and her hubby, Timmy)
not much into movies — but i do enjoy some fav. charlie sheen in major league is one of my all time fav baseball movies — because it was poking fun at the game of the game.
We loved Yippi ti ti yay !! It might have been the song that inspired me to get the kids “lease” ponies{you provide care, the owner let’s you have the use of their horse}. Which lead to owning ponies. Which lead to me screaming ” Ride it out” as the ponies bolted whenever the hell they wanted. Which lead to my son riding bareback at a full gallop while pretending to shoot a rifle. Which lead to a crotch-rocket motorcycle at 17.
Which is now a bummer for a mother.
Spies before WWII in Poland which Furst’s books are usually about. This one the French military attache spies on the Nazi preparations for attacking Poland.
Pat Buchanan tried to revise the beginnings of WWII and Buchanan really likes der Fuhrer
http://alanfurst.net/main.htm
oh dayam — (stiffling laughter)
the best of good intentions… i’m so glad i had girls – i knew how to outsmart them — boys i wudda be helpless with
Hi Margot and Suz.
Was locked out of the lake. I have the password now. Switched to mozzila search engine.
Rowed 7.4 mile race a few weeks ago. Been running and a lot of political reading. Our appeal hearing to the Supervisors was 13 hours against the $250.00 a month sewer the county is foisting on us.
Reading some Buddhism now. Got to get rid of the illusions. Get good consciousness going. And develop awareness to be a compassionate person. I think I am ready to “get it” need to read up on how it all plays.
LOLOL
Oh geez, you poor thing!
We called it the Baby Bathtub Song. You slide the baby up and down the lenght of the tub, singing, ”ToMORrow WyOMing will BEEEE your new HOME…
WHOOOP!”
And they laugh…;)
I wonder sometimes, what woulda happened if me and honey met earlier, and had had kids.
I was nutz. No decent income. A cook for a long time, till a chef.
She was someone who took a Triumph TR-4 in the early 80’s from Boston to CA. And blew it up in Pacifica, CA.
And she was a waitress, and I was a chef.
I wonder if we had kids, how it woulda changed us both from goin back to school, college. We BOTH had done the junior college, when we met.
And we went to college, instead of stayin where we were, and having kids.
And the clock ran out fast on us for kids.
I wonder if we woulda raised good kids . . I’d LIKE to think so. I’m adamant on right and wrong, she’s solid on the same, and even tougher that me in many ways.
Got me pullin my chin hairs (you didn’t see me with chin hairs). *G*
Life’s wierd.
YOU did good by yers, it appears.
Under duress. Nicely done, Suz.
Sure respect that . . . wonder what we could have done . . . no regrets, but still, wonder.
BB,
I’m glad you’re back.
I have a book you might like, has a lot to do with Buddhism but it takes place in Tibet. The Skull Mantra. I read it when I want to feel calm. It’s in paperback and at libraries.
tis always a crap shoot — ya try and do your best to give ‘em a solid foundation to build upon.
and i wonder what mine would have been like if i had done college instead of marriage and kids.
bb – so you all healed up from your fall? glad you got that straightened out and are back to commenting again
The girls are EASY. Logic, support, caring is what they’re all about. Rebellion is mostly subdued.
I’m being driven to my “extreme” parenting by this boy-man.Frigging James Dean wannabe.
He was such a responsible person before he hit 19 and stone handsome. He had a lawn business, he billed regularly and inquired about special lawn needs…..everyone was grateful to be on his client list.
Then he grew testosterone in large quantities. I’m thinking.
I keep singing Jefferson Airplanes “White Rabbit”. “And the one’s that Mother gives you don’t do anything at all…”
Is it bad to slip young males low dose birth control pills when they’re acting like assholes?
Thank you Margot. I will check it out. Here is a good site for brevity or you can link to the main essays. http://meditationinsantabarbar…..-with-fear it is in Santa Barbara.
oh geez i have no idea what estrogen does to young males and wuold not wanna hazard a guess.
i always used the troll replacement theory: my girls were taken by trolls in the middle of the night and replaced with identifical evil replacements — at age 12 — and ya get the real kids back when they are around 23 or so
Not completely healed but i did the Volunteer Firefighters physical test last Saturday with a bunch of teen competing for a entry into the career. They were trained for the event. We had a 80 pound bucket pull up a tower and my weakened wrist slowed me down so I missed qual by 40 seconds. But the chief said I did very very well on the other part. It was exhausting but fun to try. Thanks for asking.
my goodness bb — if it wasn’t for that wrist you wudda beat them youngsters.
next year dood!
Wow that is amazing: a metamorphis that last 10 years. How can we ever understand what you mom’s do?
*laughing* its easier to think that than to acknowledge the sneaky rebellious hellions were my own flesh and blood :) teen years are rough years for everyone
my mother used to say to me when i was a teen — i hope you have a daughter just like you
*sigh*
Yeah, I figured the estrogen was probably a betrayal.
“This too shall pass”.
In the meantime, it’s drama city.
once they find a place to put that energy — a productive place — career, love, learning… they do tend to settle down
At the risk of sounding like a worry-wart, be careful/mindful of your wrist. You need it for a frigging long time in life. As I’ve learned after abusing an incredibly complicated little system of my total being.
I fucked up my wrists because they weren’t as strong as I wanted them to be. IMO, don’t macho too much. Life is longer than we expect it to be with more ailments then we planned.
time for me to head out. g’nite all — jane will have a post up momentarily for everyone to enjoy
g’nite and thanks for all the conversations tonight
G’night Suzanne, thank you again for hosting.
Sweet dreams, all. Time to call it a night.
