Bill Bennett might go for this we should corner him on air talking about Global Warming and have one of our talking heads say in response oh Al told me to give you a message and then announce the bet to Bill and say George Will, Sen Inhofe and who else should we include (3 names is a good limit its easy to remember).

I remember about 2 years ago, George was on TV blathering about how Greenland was called Greenland b/c it was covered with grass at one time, and so how could scientists claim that global warming was real since Greenland was now covered in ice and snow? (And, no, I’m not making that up.)
Which just goes to prove how facts have no place in George’s thinking — at all.
Actually, Greenland got its name from the Danes who were trying to colonize it, and gave it an enticing name, hoping people would want to go there — b/c it was really covered in ice and snow and they thought no one would go if it was named Snowland or Iceland, which I believe was already taken at the time.
Interestingly, tho, no one ever called him out on it, either.
Speaks volumes, doesn’t it?

1. Assume NO CLIMATE CHANGE AND IT HAPPENS:
Answer: More islands and coast lines are covered/flooded! Solutions take years more to develop and crops fail in 0k1ahoma and other farm states. Food and grain shortages occur and prices skyrocket! America falls behind other nations due to high costs of Energy. China uses low energy costs to their advantage in manufacturing and exports and USA deficits grow!
2. Assume Climate Change is Happening and IT DOES NOT:
Answer: America stops importing 01L with average of 55 MPG and wind and solar energy providing 50% of all Electric Power. America’s cost advantages power new Manufacturing Revolution and Exports skyrocket. The deficit drops and average income increases with a shortage of workers to fill all the new technology positions!
Some how I think the DOWNSIDE in scenario 2 is NOT SO BAD!

BTW, the Neocon(victs)/reichwingers could care less about creating jobs — the whole idea is to drive the workforce into the wage cellar (think Mexico and China) so our corporate overlords can pay workers whatever they “feel” like — and green jobs would undermine that plan.

The big energy corps have known about the gas in the Marcellus shale for many years. Area kept depressed so the landowners will jump at the leases.
Some of the fluids used during drilling are industry secrets and have already caused water and health probs in Pa.

As for economic debt being equivalent to slavery, that was the core argument the colonists used to promote the idea of revolution against England – debt = slavery (completely ignoring the slaves on the plantations, of course). Being constantly in debt to English companies and business interests was seen as economic slavery to the colonists.
And yes, we now owe our very lives to the whims of Big Insurance . . . who followed Big Oil’s model of restricting one segment of their corporate structure — like Kaiser Permanente, which is in only in certain states/areas, just as certain oil companies are localized — to a geographical location, effectively rationing and monopolizing markets.

Can you run that one by me a little less breathless and with more explanation? Because I don’t think it’s true. I get the heat is energy part. I don’t get that it causes wind which brings cold fronts from the poles more quickly. I don’t get the difference between high and low killing plants, is that related to the wind? Isn’t the difference between the within day high and low usually a function of humidity? And why is the wind the factor in how fast the fronts travel, and why are they coming from the poles? Just wanted to know where all that came from.
