The Max Tax: Baucus Plan Shafts Workers, Rewards Walmart

By: emptywheel Wednesday September 16, 2009 1:01 pm

Here’s a scary part of MaxTax, if I understand it correctly. MaxTax still screws employees but rewards Wal-Mart as I’ve laid out in this post and this post. Here’s the language in question:

As a general matter, if an employee is offered employer-provided health insurance coverage, the individual would be ineligible for a low income premium tax credit for health insurance purchased through a state exchange.

Contest Semifinals: Vote for Member Who Just Won’t “Walk the Talk”

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday September 16, 2009 11:55 am

Ever since the Democrats took over Congress, it’s been one excuse after another as to why nothing but corporate-friendly, anti-progressive legislation gets passed.

We couldn’t end the war because we didn’t have “60 votes” (which they knew was bullshit, as Paul Kanjorski admits in the video).

RedState Fundraising Drive for Wingnut Senatorial Candidates: Epic Fail

By: Blue Texan Wednesday September 16, 2009 10:35 am

Poor Erick.

OFA Waves “Bye Bye” to Public Plan

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday September 16, 2009 7:45 am

I’ve heard that they have installed some software that counts how quickly the OFA list is depleting due to the public plan. This should really goose things.

That bold new campaign to tell everyone how bad the insurance companies are will probably still put it over the top. Now that they’ve been tasked with writing the bill and all.

Max Tax Hits the Trax: Baucus Finally Unveils “Insurance Industry Profit Protection Act”

By: Jason Rosenbaum Wednesday September 16, 2009 7:09 am

As of today, Baucus faces an uphill battle: Rockefeller isn’t on board, and Kerry, Menendez, and Bill Nelson have concerns; Wyden isn’t on board; Snowe isn’t on board; Grassley isn’t on board. . . .
