She did this for a year until her mom got better, and she told everyone at the roundtable that the reason she joined our campaign was so that she could help the millions of other children in the country who want and need to help their parents too.

So Ashley finishes her story and then goes around the room and asks everyone else why they’re supporting the campaign. They all have different stories and reasons. Many bring up a specific issue. And finally they come to this elderly black man who’s been sitting there quietly the entire time. And Ashley asks him why he’s there. And he does not bring up a specific issue. He does not say health care or the economy. He does not say education or the war. He does not say that he was there because of Barack Obama. He simply says to everyone in the room, “I am here because of Ashley.”

By itself, that single moment of recognition between that young white girl and that old black man is not enough. It is not enough to give health care to the sick, or jobs to the jobless, or education to our children.

But it is where we begin. It is why the walls in that room began to crack and shake.

And if they can shake in that room, they can shake in Atlanta.

And if they can shake in Atlanta, they can shake in Georgia.

And if they can shake in Georgia, they can shake all across America. And if enough of our voices join together; we can bring those walls tumbling down. The walls of Jericho can finally come tumbling down. That is our hope – but only if we pray together, and work together, and march together.

I would join the NRA in a heartbeat if i felt genuine threats to the 2nd were in our midst… but the NRA for now is just far to extreme for a regular membership from me. Most of all they really let all other egregious assaults on those stinking amendments go by the wayside. When the fourth weakens, imo, so weakens the 2nd in particular.

Public option would mean rationing, long lines, and more people dying while waiting in long lines.

My father was a (non-professional) gunsmith. With him, I used to shoot on compeition rifle and pistol teams, and we reloaded our own ammunition and re-worked our own guns.

I’ve not been involved in that culture for four decades, but I recall it well.

So, your experience is much more recent than mine. Much of mine was shooting on police pistol teams (small-town police, but cops nevertheless). It was a helluva education in how the world works. And when I went to college in a big town, I drank coffee at late nights with cops who hated “niggers”, but even more hated “stuents” — they thought I was a “worker” from the lower classes, just like them, which was so. But God how they hated students!

The highway which we call I-25, running south from Ft. Collins, through Denver and to Las Cruces NM, is actually built over the Camino Real, which means Royal Highway, and is the actual ROAD built over many years, from the late 16th Century.

I personally consider it not only rude, but a sin, to call any native latino from anywhere in the Americas, Central or South, to be illegal when the trade routes have existed here for frikking CENTURIES!

Even beyond the Camino Real, , people have been moving, working, farming and trading beyond these newly imposed borders, and it’s ridiculous to ignore them, much less belittle them. THey are backbone and brothers.

My folks divorced early and it was crazy from the early ’60’s to ’70s.

Went from living in WY, to back and forth in AZ and CO for many of the early years, but the teens was the shiznit.

And that was in rural AZ in the ’70s where my affinity for Native Americans, love of farming and ranches, disdain for authoritarianism was totally cinched.

It’s a pretty long story about that CO River Indian Tribes experience as a youth in the mid 70’s, but read it if you’re interested and when you have time.

So, I’m looking forward to meeitng him tomorrow. (I’ve been invited to the beer after the talk.)
