The President will spend a few hours in Denmark lobbying for the 2016 Olympics in Chicago. Just like the President of Brazil, the Prime Minister of Japan, and the King of Spain for their respective bids.
And the Republican reaction?
"I think at a time of war, I think at a time of recession, at a time where Americans have expressed rather significantly their concerns and frustrations over the course of the spring and summer … this trip, while nice, is not necessary for the president," Steele said in a conference call with reporters Tuesday.
Yes, "time of war" and all that:
BEIJING — Halfway around the world, U.S. President George Bush managed to cap his Olympic experience at a place he calls home: a baseball field…Never before had a U.S. president taken part in an Olympics on foreign land. Bush came and soaked it in for four days.
"Not necessary for the President" – Michael Steele
"At a time of war" [Not really a war to Kissinger if Cambodia isn't involved]
Personally, I don’t mind the flying to Copenhagen as long as there is also a plan to have certain Democrats in Congress visit the White House for a public option.

Did not Bush go to Japan to beg the Japanese Prime Minster to build car factories in America a decision that I am ok with.
Look I got video!

I thought Diplomats like Bush learned to eat foreign food without…
My bold The Presidents job is to create jobs ” Its the economy Stupid” the Olympics brings jobs.
Maybe if Bush had cared about the economy more than tax cuts the economy might not have cratered?
Does Steele really want voters to compare Bush’s total RECORD number of vacation days with 2 wars and a very shaky economy during his whole Presidency vs Obama’s record of vacations and getting stuff done?
Bush Spent 487 Days At Camp David, 490 Days At Texas Ranch During
Jan 18, 2009 … Bush Spent 487 Days At Camp David, 490 Days At Texas Ranch During – The … That means he was on vacation for 33% or 1/3 of the time. …

Beating Reagan’s old record of lazy days was tough but Bush will not be out lazied by anyone All Hail! the Slacker in Chief!
If anything I want Obama to focus more on creating jobs!
Is the GOP that afraid of Obama looking Presidential in a suit? Why Bush landing on the aircraft carrier saying Mission accomplished, Bush in New Orleans after Katrina saying heck of a job Brownie, Bush giving the female German Prime Minister a back rub.
Ok maybe the GOP is speaking from experience Presidential Pictures have certainly hurt them.
Wrong Henry thinks its a real war if a GOP President commits war crimes… preferably with his help.
Steele has heard about the boy who cried wolf right? As a GOPer Steele should be saving his ammo for when Obama makes a real mistake.
With Congressional Dems polling around 20% the GOP does not have the Cred to manufacture a scandal like they did when Newt and the GOP trashed Clinton’s healthcare plan.
Any Advertising or Poll guy should be telling the GOP this even Micro Trends Mark Penn, just what is going on in the GOP leadership and planning sessions and who are the researchers giving them facts?
More Legacy hires and true believer Cool Aid drinkers this seems a classic case of bias tainting research.
I wonder how Steele’s remarks will help the Illinois GOP? Opposing jobs for Illinois will go over great with voters there./s
Obama’s going to Denmark would not be getting under my skin, were he not so deliberately AWOL on leading the charge for a true public health care option. Today’s finance committee votes on the Rockefeller and Schumer amendments put the capstone on the President’s passive aggressive quest for failure on health care reform. As a result, I am getting to the point where I would like to see him pack up, go to Denmark, and not return. At least w/ Biden at the helm, we might stand a chance of backing off in Afghanistan.
Steele is a Pinata full of candy:) hit him with a stick and he never fails to give up some.
naw, just like eddie haskell, obama wanted to be out of sight when the public option amendments got voted down. have we even heard a single word from him on this?
funny how he makes time to comment on every thing else, huh?
Biden is getting us out? How is that going?
Nicely done. And thanks for the pix, I’d almost forgotten.
Of course with BO’s wishy washy track record he may never make it to Denmark as he will get half way there and turn back to do the Gooper’s bidding.
Maybe, just maybe the House Progressives will kill any bill without a public option forcing the Senate to come around. BO would shit his bloody pants if a bill arrived on his desk with a public option… his worst nightmare. As expected he is full of rhetoric and short on balls.
Isn’t Denmark building electric car charging stations all over the entire country I hope Obama gets a photo op of that.

Good morning.
Good analogy. O lobbying for Chicago Olympics and W attending Beijing Olympics are right down there in the same category. Is there nothing too frivolous for the top alpha male to spread his scent around?
http://greeninc.blogs.nytimes……-software/
I want Obama test driving one of these cars on camera at a electric car charging station. Then I want to hear about a cash for clunkers plan for the GM Volt thats coming out next year.
I want to hear America will not be left behind as the world goes green!
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd and Friedman this morning. MoDo writes “On Safire,” and says William Safire was anything but a nattering nabob of negativity. He had none of the vile and vitriol of today’s howling pack of conservative pundits. (He’s spinning like a lathe in his grave now, MoDo, because you used “vile” as a noun, which it ain’t.) The Moustache of Wisdom asks “Where Did ‘We’ Go?” He says there is no more “we” in American politics at a time when “we” can only manage, let alone fix, our huge problems if there is a collective “we” at work.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins with your favorite jam. Yesterday I planted the 3 raised beds in the back yard with a variety of romaine and butter head lettuces, mesclun, Swiss chard and radishes. I know they can’t be rushed, but I want them to sprout NOW! Have a great day.
Mornin eCHAN
Its creepy him sniffing the volleyball players
attaturk, these people are rooting for a civil war, they are rooting against health care for their poor, they are doing everything possible to get this president out the door
I cannot believe what I am seeing
Saw Capitalism, A Love Story yesterday. Mixed reviews. Some parts good but overall seemed disjointed.
Must read article on Sibel Edmonds, who is finally speaking out. Apparently our good friend Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is suing her opponent for libel or slander over his accusation that she took money from the Turkish lobby, and Sibel gave a 4 hour deposition in the case, which was not muzzled, which opened the opportunity for the interview by Giraldi. If you need an added attraction (the inevitable sex component), the Turks tried to blackmail Congresswoman Schahowsky into cooperating by seducing her with a woman agent. No evidence whether it was or wasn’t a successful blackmail. Here’s also an interview with Giraldi and someone who’s written about Edmonds before.
Sorry if everyone’s already aware of this. I only caught on yesterday.
Sniff or be sniffed?
we are finally having cooler temps and that means we can start planting again. We have two seasons, now and after the frosts of January.

My bold Spying on our own government even for an allied power is still Treason. Tight Ship Bush was running at the WH./s
Probably drooled… off camera of course.
Thanks, Marion.
He had none of the vile and vitriol of today’s howling pack of conservative pundits…
“U got the vile.” Descriptive. And to be charitable, it makes a lot more sense as the singular of vili.
My bold notice she says the Mayor who I presume is Mayor Daley who I’m certain Fitz would love to get some information on.
It’s pretty amazing stuff. Largely centered in Chicago. Apparently the Chicago FBI office wasn’t muzzled as quickly as FBI central.
This will never get widespread attention because both parties are involved and MSM won’t touch it. Reasons are exhaustively discussed in the interview I linked.
And how cheap it is. Get a member of congress for just a promise of reward post govt service and some paltry campaign contributions (even $1 million is paltry compared to the info and services exchanged for it). A couple of thousand dollars to get new PhDs at Rand, Sandia, etc. to sell U.S. nuke secrets (an unintended consequence of inflation in higher ed costs, no doubt). The banality of it all.
WRT Plame, nothing in the article (no room) but is discussed in the interview. Someone (can’t remember who) warned the Turkish company that was trying to get U.S. secrets that Brewster Jennings was a CIA front company. This was years before Plame was outed in a more public way.
Friedman is right for once and while the GOP would welcome the expected riots. They will have created a Martyr like JFK that and guys like Rush, Beck etc should feel a huge backlash from advertisers.
Tea Bagger funders will be investigated and we will get lots of things we want passed.
I don’t think the GOP has thought this through but when was the last time they thought anything through?
If we can keep on this story we can drive media coverage the blogs have done it before. If we can get Daley to sing the Illinois Dems and GOP are dead.
Illinois is a one party state where both parties share the profits.
Someone should write a diary about this story. I’m html fobic (my diaries on employment were agonies), so I’m not gonna do it. However, I’ll link my comments on later threads today.
I’ve been away from Chicago to long and my expertise on this story would be Chicago . Unless I can show business connections to Turkey and Illinois polls and crimes or favors granted.
The diary I was thinking of is just a FYI, with a few select quotes. It’s big enough that it doesn’t need any other value added.
You are welcome to any help I can give you with HTML. Please do not let your words of wisdom be unread for the want of some damn programming. You can send it to me and I will format for you.
Can I do it in a word document & then email it to you? (Thanks for the offer. selise did all the real work on my earlier diaries and it still was a pain, especially since they had tables. This one should be easier.)
Sure, as long as it is not Word Perfect. Anything else is just fine. finn at campaignfree.org.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks. I’ll get it to you, probably after 9, as I like to listen to democracynow bet 8 & 9 ET and probably can’t finish it before that starts.
What will this cost the state tax payers? Also, they might need to add additonal police with all the youth being killed in Chi Town…
Is that the same Henry Kissinger that Obama sent to Russia to represent our nation and his administration shortly after taking office?????
http://www.globalresearch.ca/i…..;aid=12191
You mean something other than an inefficient internal combustion engine where 73% of the potential energy is wasted in the form of heat. You mean an engine where .73 cents of every dollar I have spent on gas might not have been wasted, given to corporations or foreign countries, as I sit for hours in traffic because a toll road paid for decades ago, does not have enough toll takers, but rather easy pass where credit card corporations now get a piece of the action?? What a deal for America??
The headline from yesterday’s LA Times:
But, if instead he went to clear brush somewhere in Texas, then what?
Virtually all of Chicago (excepting the mayor, the Obama’s and the developers that get to evict the poor for development) are strongly opposed to hosting the Olympics.
Hosting the Olympics, like all sports development is nothing but a giveaway to the rich at the expense of the poor and the public in general.
