PS. Just wanted to clarify the “decided not to vote for any D’s” thing.

I’m gonna work hard and vote in the primary to try and get progressive D’s nominated, but it’s not easy in this state, and I’ve already decided I’m no longer voting for D’s as a “lesser of two evils” thing anymore. I’d love to support the Democratic party as a party, but I’m not going to until they start acting like the Democratic Wing of the Democratic party, as Howard Dean once said.

I hope you’ll remember this post come next November.

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my lifetime here, the American people never cease to amaze me as to how easily they can manipulated and fooled. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see a repeat of 1994 in 2010, and Obama being a one term President. I’ve already decided I’m not voting for any of the D’s in my state (and in fact have pledged to vote R for Senate if no or weak healthcare reform passes) and I’m definitely not voting for Obama again. I’ll vote Green, or reform, or write in Howard Dean if I have to.

It’s not just the nuts that decide an election. The way the D’s can disappoint and leave the sane among us uninterested makes the R’s job that much easier. And Obama and the D’s have thus far been very disappointing, IMHO. I honestly can’t tell much difference between Obama’s stances on things like torture, warrentless wiretapping, indefinite suspensions, war, etc. and Bush’s. And that’s not the “Change We Can Believe In” that I voted for last November.

And his decision to “look forward” instead of holding Bush/Cheney accountable for their criminal acts is probably the most unforgiveable act IMO. Because if they are not going to be accountable, there is nothing whatsoever to prevent future Presidents from trashing the Constitution. This one or any one that follows.

I’m not sure whether Malkin in just a racist or an imbecilic racist. She is smart enough to know that the FauxNews demographic is top heavy with shamefully ignorant morons who will believe ANYTHING that is presented in a feverish, breathless, hysterical manner. The Republican Party is officially the party of ignorance, fear, and intolerance. They have dispensed with all pretense of ideas and policies in favor of fear mongering, race baiting, and idiotic conspiracy theories. How does this strategy propel them to victory? It has yielded nothing but a party shrinking into irrelevance, becoming more xenophobic and more ignorant by the hour.

IIRC the book Freakanomics covers an interesting statistic that won’t sit well with right-wingers. The unexpected drop in violent crime back in the 90’s when everyone was expecting it to climb higher and higher. The author made the connection of Roe v. Wade and miraculously a generation later there’s a huge drop in violence.

If there is an uptick, I wonder how it tracks with the reduced access to abortion following that historic decision.

I guess Malkin is just suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome.

Oh, and of course, she can’t sell books to idiots if the idiots aren’t all whooped up!

I spent many years in asia, from the Philippines and Indonesia to Japan and Korea. There was one pretty common thread thruout the region and that was racism. Of course I am talking about conditions that existed prior to 1990. The racism against blacks by asians, for some reason, was pretty universal. Not to pardon Malkin but perhaps to help explain her. My wife is Korean/Japanese and had a pretty horrible childhood due to the hatred in Korea of the Japanese. Yet when we returned to Korea last year for a visit, much had changed. There is now a great deal of intermarriage in Korea and except for those well over 70, racism of all kinds has just…gone. There are now many occidental wives in Korea, along with Japanese husbands and wives. The ingrained racism-of everyone who was not Korean- noted by my Aunt-an Army nurse from 1947 to 1969-way back in 1951 and again in the early 1960s and by me in the 70s and 80s, simply evaporated. That one deeply racist country could totally abandon a way of thought and life that had existed for 1000 years in less than a generation is just about the only thing that gives me some little hope that we, here in the US, might someday be able to emulate Korea and discard racism as we would a worn out suit. The day is coming, but far more slowly than I would hope. My kids, who are biracial, tell me that most people their ages don’t care at all what race or color a person is. And so racism is fading, but far too slowly. With what looks to me like a large bump in the road ahead if the current republician party wins in 2010 and 2012 as they are a seriously racist party.
